Tujuh Maret in Grachtengordel-Zuid

First time at an Indonesian restaurant. We were excited to eat here and ordered the 18 dish special to share between 2. Beware, it is a lot of food. The food was.. acceptable. I feel bad saying this, as there wasn't anything wrong with the food, but we were "whelmed". There were 5 or 6 standout dishes that were quite enjoyable, but the majority were just okay, with 1 or 2 not quite hitting the mark. I think a big problem was that out of 18 (really 14, since 2 are rice and 2 are topping/pickles to eat with the other dishes), 6 dishes were the same 2 meats, chicken and beef, but with a slightly different sauce: described as mild, medium, and hot. The meat ended up slightly dry and repetitive, with not enough variation in flavour and spice to justify 6 dishes. I also thought that the 3 spice levels were more: not spicy, mild, medium, which was disappointing. Anyway, service was great and the restaurant had a good vibe. I'd still say the experience was enjoyable, but since food quality comes first for me, I wouldn't personally recommend it to friends. But I rate for my experience, so 4 stars.

Cute little restaurant with a nice ambiance; it’s cozy and nicely decorated. Not too far from city center; within walking distance or an easy tram ride. The service was ok; kind of friendly but not too much. They assumed that we wanted our meal medium and mildly spicy and did not ask us.. It’s a little offensive honestly!! The food was ok, we had the rice table. Not cheap for what they serve honestly! The skewers were my favorites the rest was ok.. (Tamarind sauce?)… A nice authentic Indonesian restaurant overall.

This was my first time trying Indonesian food and I really enjoyed it. There were two of us and we ordered a set menu, which I recommend because it allows you to discover a nice variety of flavors. We had a long wait, but the waitress had warned us and it really wasn't a problem. All the staff were friendly and really went out of their way despite a large table of about 30 people right next to us.

Book in advance! We had the vegetarian Rijjstafel and they were able to accomodate and change one egg dish to a vegan dish. Food is amazing. We had veg spring rolls, tofu satay, fried tempeh with peanuts, mildly spicy tofu curry, long beans and potato + another tofu dish that was moderately spicy, and eggplant sambal and egg sambal that was quite spicy, 2 salads, roasted coconut flakes and rice flour or rice based keropok I think and 2 rice dishes. 34.50 Euro pp. Lychee drink was tasty. Service is fast and to the point. Pleasant staff. I don’t understand what the Dutch influence is maybe smaller portions? But this was authentic Indonesian food and probably one of the best I’ve had in a European country. Highly recommend.

Fantastic time the food was tremendous and the atmosphere was really nice as well. It’s a small restaurant. I marked the service three stars only because there’s only really one person servicing, but he did an outstanding job. Trust me. This is some of the best Indonesian food you can find in Amsterdam - bar none

A fairly small but nice restaurant. The selection of Indonesian delicacies was good and plentiful.

Booked a 7pm table for 4. Had the 18 dish tasting menu. Took a while to come out but we weren't in a hurry so no problem. Finished eating at 8.30pm and 1 of us asked for another glass of wine...was told "yes but you'll have to drink it quickly as there are people waiting outside for a table". Got the wine anyway, strangely they then offered the dessert menu, but no way we were taking anything more after that. For the bill waitress says "we prefer cash payments"...yep wouldn't we all... 😄 So we paid by card. Then when we left around 8.50 there were 2 empty tables so no justification for rushing us when spending over €200. Otherwise food was OK but it gets noisy and I found it difficult to hear my table talk as it's only a small place.

This restaurant was so rude. They let me stand there for 10 minutes and completely ignored me. After they finally came over, I asked if they have a table for 1. They clearly have a single table empty in the corner. They said no but in a rude way. I found out from the website that they only accept reservations for 2 people minimum. They could have told me that and did not have to be rude or lie.

Food and service were excellent. Although they don’t have a high chair for babies, they were super accommodating with the kids (3 1/2 and 14 months) bringing cucumbers for them before the meal and a pad and pen for them to draw. We tried the big rice table and our 3 year old loved everything there was in the non spicy part.

Delicious Indonesian food! Perfectly seasoned, not greasy, and the vegetables were wonderfully fresh. Highly recommended!

Perhaps you can dismiss this 'review' as it is from a memory more than 25 years ago. But, it's a beautiful memory... a very beautiful memory. My wife and I had been married in the Netherlands hours before we dined at Tujuh Maret and so this was our first dinner as husband and wife. I've had many Indonesian dinners since and I can say there's a reason we're seeing Tujuh Maret celebrating its 30th anniversary. Can't wait to return.

We reserved a table for three persons for Saturday nine pm. When we got there, two of the three weren't all that hungry so they ordered only soup and the third a main dish. Immediately the waiter started being aggressive: we were occupying a table for four people and they expected us to order three main dishes. Mind you that the restaurant closes (according to information on Google) at 10 pm. He then said, "ok, let me see what I can do". We waited for about half an hour to get our food. By then, the restaurant was half empty. Other personnel were rather unwelcoming also. Incredible how you can be in the hospitality business and be so rude to customers.

The experience itself is interesting - you get many small-ish dishes to try, so if you’re unsure of what to have, you can try a bit of everything. 12 dishes + rice between the two of us was enough, though I’d say €34 pp is quite pricy for the amount. Importantly, the flavours are bland and very mild. We went for the medium spicy version (which is the spiciest they offer) and it didn’t have even a hint of heat in majority of dishes. Out of 12 dishes, we found only two had some flavour, the rest were lacklustre. It was still an interesting type of concept and the restaurant seems to be popular as it was quite busy. But I wouldn’t want to eat at this same place again and search for something more authentic.

Although the rice table with 18 different kinds of Indonesian food was chunky and tasty, counting the grinded nuts—a seasoning for the other dishes—as a dish borders bad math. In my book, sprinkles on ice cream does not as a dish on its own. Same goes for the steamed rise, complementary in every other main course. A recounting for the menu or reassessment of servings is called for. Service is friendly and swift. Please take note that service charge is not included in the in-menu price nor the final bill.

Llegamos al restaurante y pedimos una jarra de agua ya que no queríamos beber alcohol y no creemos que el agua embotellada sea respetuosa con el medio ambiente. Acabábamos de pedir su 18 plato Rijsttafel para 2 y pedimos la jarra de agua del grifo cuando nos dijeron abruptamente que no proporcionaría esto e insistimos en que tendríamos que tener agua embotellada. Nos sorprendió escuchar esto ya que nunca antes nos habían negado una jarra de agua del grifo. Tomamos la decisión allí y luego multar en otro lugar y cancelamos nuestro pedido. Una verdadera lástima, ya que realmente estábamos buscando tener el plato 18 Rijsttafel.

Three of us (one kid and two adults) shared the 18 dish rice table, and it was more than enough. We liked 16 as a consensus (of the two we didn't like, one had too much fish sauce and another we didn't like the texture of the beef). Everything else was great, flavorful and well seasoned. It's pretty packed in there, so expect to be sitting close to other tables, and it's kind of loud. Make a reservation if you want to eat here, as we saw at least three couples/groups turned away who didn't.

Small restaurant just outside the centre of Amsterdam, nothing flash to look at. Food was lovely and the staff very kind.

For sure, it is a narrow space, so you do not have a lot of room on your table. However, the table is for food, not for your phones, and food we got!! It was a lot. Everything was very tasty, but some of the meats were a bit too dry. On the other hand, we have had great interaction with the serving team, who were friendly, quick and knowledgable. What I most enjoyed is that it felt intimate, even though we were with 7 people. And while it was busy, I experienced a calm service and true hospitality.

Where fun and people with allergies come to die. Try again Tujuh Maret. I have traveled the far beaches of Bali and distant mountains of Java and felt at home. You too can feel home in Tujuh Maret if your ideal abode involves workers with the attitude of an adolescent who skipped lunch and forgot to take their Prozac. I wish this on my worst geopolitical enemies, DJT, Putin, and Bolsonaro among them.

Had eaten here at Tujuh Maret many years ago and enjoyed it so came back on latest trip to Amsterdam. Make sure you book, they were turning people away when we were there. Had the Rijstaffel, 18 dishes with a variety of tastes and heat which were all lovely. Staff explained what everything was and the order to eat it in. Only downside was that the warmers didn’t work so later dishes were cold by the time we got to them. Decent selection of drinks although wine not on the drinks menu but they have it if you ask!

We only found this restaurant on the last evening of our trip and were very grateful to have managed to get a table. Apparently, we were very lucky, as otherwise you have to book well in advance. The food was delicious and lovingly prepared, the service was super fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was small but nice. Thanks again for letting us in at short notice; we'll be happy to come back.

I celebrated my birthday here with 10 people. The service was great and the food was incredible. The rice table was a fun and tasty experience with a large group!

We ordered the 18-dish sampler platter and it was INCREDIBLE! Very delicious and unique. It was a little too much food for two people but we were able to take leftovers home.

Looked nice and smelt delicious, lots of people having a great time but we were not allowed to order a selection of starters rather than mains. We were not that hungry and wanted some chicken satay, spring rolls and rice; not allowed. Team perfectly nice about it; we left and went somewhere else. Worth knowing.

Fantastic dinner at one of the oldest and most legendary Indonesian spots in Amsterdam. Feel so lucky they let in our party of 10 and took great care of us. Will absolutely be back.

Ontzettend lekker én veel gegeten. Wij namen de rijsttafel voor 2 personen En als enorme grote eters konden wij zeggen... Dit was veel! En lekker! Miste alleen iets van vis. Personeel super aardig Alleen vond ik de inrichting een beetje ouderwets en ongezellig.. Maar het eten maakte heel veel goed.

Rather disappointed with the rice table menu. We came in group of five with reservation. Table was put together haphazardly when we turned up (very narrow sitting). Next we enquired on the menu, our first visit, if we can order ala carte dishes with rice to share. Replied negatively, dishes were meant for individuals. We ordered 4 sets of 18 dishes rice table. The servcings were in measly portions. We saw other patrons in twos served in similar sized crockeries for 12 dishes. Dish sizes were very small for rice table, so It’s a very bad experience, very low value meal sizes , I cant recommend this. I felt we were served portion equivalent to those for two pax, because the restaurent didn’t upsize the dishes for 4 pax accordingly. Staff should either explain or serve at least two sets of that with suitable table arrangements, or explain that it is meant for two persons or three maximum.

Very tasty and a lot to eat. We took the rice table for 2 people And as huge eaters we could say... This was a lot! And delicious! Only missing something of fish. Staff super nice I just found the decor a bit old-fashioned and uncomfortable. But the food made up for a lot.

This cozy restaurant was the perfect place to cap off our trip to Amsterdam. We shared the 18 dish rice table and it was one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life. Our server, I think one of the owners of the restaurant, was very helpful and cognizant that one of us was vegetarian. Cannot recommend highly enough!

We can only half agree with the praise from several sources. We imagined more in terms of taste. The individual dishes on the rice table were very well balanced in terms of spiciness, but the aroma was not that exciting and, above all, they were almost cold. Too bad.

Chicken tasted like it’s been boiled prior then just mixed with the chillies. Overall not flavourful enough for my asian tongue but understandably they have to acclimatise to the locals. Ambiance is fabulous.

Very tasty food. We took the rice table. €38.50 pp which we thought was quite expensive. Especially because we had to pay extra for a portion of rice and prawn crackers. Desserts were also quite expensive. €10 for two scoops of ice cream with chocolate sauce. Service was very friendly. Quite a small restaurant, you sit close to each other.

Awful attitude of waiter staff and forced to order main dishes regardless of order other courses and various appetites. We came with a party of 6 and had a prior reservation, so they were going to get plenty of business anyways. From the moment we walked in we were rushed and then waiter seemed completely indifferent and inconsiderate to guests. Pushed to order the most expensive item on the menu and a completely inpersonable service. I never write bad reviews but this one *truly* deserved it

A super popular place. Make sure you booked in advance. We had the rijstafel. Some dishes are pretty good, some I feel is just average. We also had bottle of wine plus dessert so per person bill was thus higher. If you only only the nasi campur then it’s not too expensive.

Fort déçu par ce resto avec de bons avis sur Google. Les viandes étaient assez sèches, les légumes sans intérêt, le service pas très sympa. Les riz étaient par contre très bons, mais ça ne peut pas rattraper un rijstafel à 18 plats. Le proposition végétarienne dans les plats était également très peu engageante . Dommage

Teníamos el Ajam Roedjak y el Ajam Opor que era 23. 50 euros cada uno. También tuvimos dos entrantes: Pangsit y Loempia. El sabor de los platos principales era "nada que escribir en casa". Al ser un restaurante indonesio, no entendían realmente la cultura del este asiático cuando pides agua caliente, pero te traen té en su lugar y te cobran 3 euros por el "té" que no se pidió. No recomendaría este lugar ya que no sabía como auténtico indonesio. No volveré para probar comida "meh" y la cuenta es bastante cara - "una vez mordido, dos veces más tímido".

It was good, but have eaten at better Indonesian style restaurants. Food was fresh and tasty and the staff pretty attentive. It is quite small and can get busy, but still worth a visit.

After a boat tour, our guide recommended this spot, and we quickly booked a reservation online. Though we couldn’t get an earlier time, it was worth the wait. We had the small Rice Tables for two, which included 12 delicious dishes with yellow and white rice. Everything was flavorful, and we loved the dog-friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend!

An old recipe for constipation lies in the hart of Old Amsterdam. But it comes with a price... First you have to work your way through fatty, tasteless wet dishes that look like a dog got sick on your plate. But after paying a overpriced bill the reward is announced on the way home... At the end of the day you realise that you connot buy the food at Tujuh, you can only borrow it for an hour or 2.

Baja apariencia clave, pero la bienvenida fue buena. Menú variado con especialidades indonesias. Los entrantes (martabak y sate) eran buenos. Pedimos una comida de ritmo lento, pero el plato principal llegó antes de que hubiéramos terminado nuestros entrantes! El rendang de ternera era delicioso, pero las gambas reales estaban demasiado cocinadas, lo que fue decepcionante. Nuestra confirmación de reserva indicaba que teníamos la mesa hasta las 10 : 30 pero salimos corriendo por la puerta. Agradezco que fuera Nochevieja pero...

Delicious lunch of 18 dishes divided into mild, medium and spicy

Dit restaurant is een absolute belediging voor de indonesische keuken. Bij de nasi rames had ik om extra groente gevraagd en sateh. De sateh was oud en koud evenals de satehsaus. De atjar had een vreemde bijsmaak. De nasi rames had niets met het gerecht te maken. Het was oude uit de magneopgewarmde prut. Alles smaakte hetzelfde. Don’t go!!! De mensen diie er werken zijn aardig en glimlachen maar ze luisteren niet naar de wat je zegt. Nogmaals don’t go!

Tuvimos un encantador rijsttafel con 18 platos separados. Como fuimos criados en Amsterdam, estamos acostumbrados a la comida indonesia. Pedimos suave/medio y eso es lo que conseguimos. Había una variedad de platos, algunos un poco sosos y otros muy sabrosos. Nos encantó la carne, el pollo satay, los platos de verduras! Este es un pequeño restaurante familiar que preferimos a los más conocidos (y no siempre son buenos). Tendremos otra comida aquí la próxima vez que estemos en Amsterdam.

We ordered the 12 plates Rijsttafel. This is the most iconic Indonesian dining experience in Amsterdam. Literally meaning “rice table,” it consists of numerous small dishes served with rice, allowing you to sample a wide variety of flavors. I recommend going for the first 6 mild and then the last 6 medium. Extremely flavourful and authentic service.

I really enjoyed my visit. I thought it was great that there was a kind of mini rice table with about 5 dishes for 1 person. Efficient but warm service. Reservation advisable!

Service without fuss, not unfriendly but certainly not warm or a bit more extensive. We ate the Nasi Rames spicy but not hot. Both the chicken dish and the rendang had an almost natural taste, to put it kindly. It is better to describe the rendang as soup meat; virtually no spicy taste and not dry enough for rendang. Shame!

First issue was we tried their online reservation app, but since that didn’t work, we called. In a lengthy conversation it was clear that our party of four would come at 19:00. When we got there, they didn’t have our reservation; they said they had us for 18:00. Luckily there was a table they claimed was reserved for another party which they let us use (the other party never showed). We were at a hotel without a refrigerator so we couldn’t take home leftovers and didn’t want to waste food, so two of our party each ordered an appetizer and a satay. A man who seemed to be a manager (the same one who messed up the reservation) told us that was not allowed, and an entrée must be ordered—even though the cost of the appetizer + satay equaled the cost of an entrée. His attitude toward us soured the entire evening. When we needed more time to decide, the manager never came back and sent a waitress to take our order. She was pleasant enough, though she didn’t come back to see if we wanted more drinks, to check on the food, etc. Had the general impression that because we didn’t order the Rijsttafel, we were not welcome. Their spiciness grade (mild, medium, spicy) wasn’t quite accurate (their spicy = medium, medium = mild, and mild = no spice). This may have been toned down for Dutch tastes; on the other hand, their website says they feature “hot spicy dishes from the North of Sulawesi.” As far as flavorfulness (as opposed to hotness), two dishes were well flavored, one was OK, but the Daging Rendang was actually bland. Overall, indifferent food and rude treatment.

Unfortunately disappointed in this place. We were recommended by friends to go here for their tasting menu. We had the 12 course and I think honestly every dish was microwave heated leftovers. All meats and chicken were chewy and dry. You get a lot of food is probably the only good thing I have to say unfortunately. If you want a good Asian tasting menu experience, go somewhere else.

We came here for an authentic Indonesian experience, but it fell short. We ordered the small Rijsttafel (12 dishes), and while the flavors were decent, nothing stood out—especially given the high price ( EUR 34,50 per person). The main issue was that the food was clearly microwaved, which we saw the chef doing. Both the chicken and beef were dry, and it felt like we were served leftovers, particularly since we dined early at 3 PM and the food arrived within 10-15 minutes. While it reminded of Indonesian food, if you're looking for fresh, authentic Indonesian food at a reasonable price, I’d suggest going elsewhere.

Discovered during a walk on thursday night, we decided to visit that restaurant on friday night. The locality is cozy with limited amount of seats, but if you obey they rules to push the tables to the bench its very comfortable. All the ordered dishes have been amazing, fast served and great of taste. Overall i really recommend to visit that marvelous place, thanks to the very charismatic lady who served us. All the best from the calm table of austrians.

We had a big party. They were very accommodating, food was great, served family style with lots of sharing.

I was so looking forward to having a rijsttafel dinner in Amsterdam and this restaurant did not disappoint. Because we didn’t have a reservation, we aimed to arrive at an earlier time slot and were seated immediately at 6PM in one of the two coveted window seats. The Rijsttafel included 16 dishes ranging from mild to spicy (though in all honestly the spicy was not that spicy) and included a variety of chicken, beef, and veggie dishes as well as a bowl of regular rice and coconut rice. Everything was wonderful and a month later I’m still thinking about that dinner! They also did have wine—I had a couple glasses of rose which went well with the dinner.

The owner and staff are friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, if you're an Indonesian seeking authentic Indonesian cuisine, this may not be the ideal place for you. For those new to Indonesian food, you might enjoy the food. As an Indonesian, I was missing home and hoped to find a great local Indonesian restaurant. Based on the positive reviews, I decided to give this restaurant a try. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed. I ordered the rijsttafel with 18 dishes, and in my opinion, only the sate and prawn crackers had the familiar flavors of home. Most of the dishes were too sweet and lacked the bold, rich, aromatic flavors typical of Indonesian cuisine. Many dishes were unfamiliar to me, further diminishing the authentic experience I was seeking.

Such a lovely little restaurant. This was my first encounter with Indonesian food and it was so delicious. Would definitely recommend the rijsttafel so you can try a lot of different food.

You can’t go wrong with rijstafel or the mixed plates which come in mild, medium, hot. The dishes served are different.

This restaurant may be the best dinner I had in Amsterdam! The rijsttafel was so delicious, and we finished off each dish completely! All the small dishes were so good - there wasn’t one bad one. The portion sizes were great too.

Amazing. You will not leave hungry or disappointed. They don’t serve wine and only Heineken beer. But you won’t miss that when you eat here. A must try.

If you like real Indonesian food, I would definitely not eat here, everything is very tasteless, bland and has nothing to do with authentic flavors from Indonesia.

Traditional Indonesia food. Small and quaint place. Service is great. If possible - get a booking especially for larger groups. Mango and guava juice were very refreshing! My husband and I got a beef and chicken dish and both were delightful.
