A great ambiance, beautiful tableware, and friendly service. It ensured that no alarm bells went off. After all, Sunday evening at 6:30 PM – hardly any customers, game on the menu in June... I found that quite remarkable. I ordered the asparagus menu and that is where things went wrong. The asparagus was lukewarm and not properly peeled, so it was woody; the ham was bone dry; the egg was ice cold; and the baby potatoes were not warm and covered in a lot of (liquid) butter (or something similar). I have never sent anything back to the kitchen anywhere before, but I did this time. The promised 4 minutes to prepare fresh asparagus turned into a bit more, and these were certainly better (just like the ham), but in my opinion, not restaurant-worthy. As a hobby cook, I dare say this could be done much better. Make the menu smaller, instruct your cook properly, buy fresh(!) ingredients, give care and attention to your mise en place, and remove the plates from under the heat lamps. Then you can turn it into a fantastic restaurant.

Normally I don't post reviews. But given how bad the food was here, I feel it is necessary. I ordered a T-bone steak for 50 euros, wanted it medium, but it was completely raw. And I have never had such poor quality meat; just fat and muscle. Unfortunately, not a single bite of meat was tender or good. My son had fries with fish sticks; the fish sticks were deep-fried instead of nicely baked and dark brown. You couldn't taste the fish stick anymore, just a dark brown crust that tasted like deep-fried food.

Our daughter has Celiac disease and eats strictly gluten-free (tracetal-free). Peter and his team are knowledgeable; they ask the right questions and discuss your wishes with you. No standard menu, but a custom-made dinner. Additionally, they make it a real treat for my daughter, which we all enjoyed. Thank you for this wonderful experience of dining out, despite a strict diet. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back. Until next time.

"We can't make it any better than this." On a quiet Friday evening (6 or 7 tables occupied), I ordered a schnitzel. When served, the schnitzel was limp and lukewarm. After eating half of it, I noticed that the other half of the schnitzel was still just raw/pink. We are talking about a pork schnitzel here! The waitress took the half schnitzel back, only to return a good minute later with the message 'that it should be good now, they put it in for a bit longer'. In what is a mystery to me, because although the cut surface indeed looked white/cooked, it turned out that when cutting away the edge, the rest of the schnitzel was just as pink as the first time. I beckoned the waitress again and asked her to do something about it. After 5 minutes, she returned with the same plate and the same half schnitzel, accompanied by the very apt statement: "We can't make it any better than this." The pink had indeed disappeared, but the schnitzel was still just as limp with an almost watery exterior and by now quite tasteless. No apologies, no compensation in the form of a drink or discount, absolutely nothing.

Popular restaurant,…….it filled up at 5 o'clock…….,attentive staff….,but the chef shouldn't show up with a dirty apron….,a shame.

We had a delicious meal; there were 10 of us. The staff is very professional and patient. We first had a cup of coffee and a glass of wine. Afterwards, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. We enjoyed the quiet and pleasant atmosphere.

I didn't have a reservation, but I got a table right away. They quickly asked if I wanted a drink, and I was immediately given a platter with a roll and herb butter. I had a delicious pork tenderloin with delicious fries and a salad. Then I had the chef's dessert! Delicious and for a great price! The photos speak for themselves!

Had lunch here on Friday, February 14 (Valentine's Day), 2026. This restaurant lives up to its name. Solid oak trunks support the wooden roof. It looks attractive, although its location near a main road intersection isn't particularly appealing. The lunch menu is somewhat limited. I had a chicken satay, and my wife had two shrimp croquettes with bread and a carpaccio. They also had a Grolsch bock beer. The service was good. We were early, and gradually more customers arrived. The chicken satay was good, not on skewers but in individual pieces. A generous portion of fries with mayo came with it. My wife didn't particularly like the shrimp croquettes. She loved the carpaccio. I ordered an extra bock beer. We had to pay €63.50, which I thought was a bit pricey.

The service and service were good, but the stamppot buffet was very poor, ready-made from bags today, very watery and tasteless, and thick bacon slices that had been in the freezer for a bit too long.

Unfortunately, we don't live nearby, but we're in Hardenberg today, so we're off to Heemse. A warm welcome and a delicious meal.

The food was minimal, no vegetables, only one head of broccoli or something with the leaves still on. Satay sauce was lumpy. The staff barely spoke, as if they'd had a fight before the time. No goodbyes or anything like that when we left. However, a person who works there probably also had an altercation with someone, and the whole place had to hear about it. No more log cabin restaurants in Hardenberg for us!

Had lunch on September 21, 2025. The restaurant looks very cozy and warm inside. Dogs are allowed, and a bowl of water was immediately offered. The carpaccio with Turkish bread and herb butter (not butter) was fine but not exceptional. The croquettes were overcooked and partially empty. It took quite a while for the food to arrive, even though it was very quiet. The manager, who asked if everything was to our liking, immediately removed the two drinks from the bill. Very polite.

We arrived here without a reservation and were lucky enough to find a table available. The service is perhaps a bit inexperienced with wine; we ordered a bottle, which was brought to our table already opened, and they asked if we wanted to try it beforehand. The service, however, was extremely friendly. We received a small amuse-bouche (house bread) beforehand. We ordered spare ribs (my boyfriend) and tournedos (me). I asked for the tournedos rare, and it was cooked perfectly! Just the way I like it. The quality of the meat was excellent, super tender. They came back several times to ask if everything was to our liking (it was). The friendly service and the quality of the food mean we will definitely return. Parking is free in front.

I've driven past it many times, but I finally made it. The food was perfect, everything looks neat and tidy. The staff effortlessly adapts to the customer, and it's definitely recommended for a delicious meal. There are also rooms available that you can definitely rent for a fantastic party. The children's menu is suitable for children around 10 years old, by the way; for a 2-year-old, you'll need to provide extra food to make sure everything is finished.

A very good and atmospheric restaurant just outside the center of Hardenberg. The food is good and the service is fast. What makes this restaurant special are the delicious liqueurs that the chef brews himself in his own preserving jars. And there's a wide selection. Highly recommended!

A beautiful restaurant with excellent cuisine! I've rarely eaten such a perfectly cooked steak. We didn't have to wait long, but it wasn't particularly busy either. The service was excellent, and communication with English was easy. The portions were plentiful, and everyone was satisfied. There are special dishes for children.

We had hoped for a pleasant and delicious evening at Restaurant De Boomstam, but unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. The staff were audibly arguing with each other near the guests, which certainly didn't enhance the atmosphere. Furthermore, the hygiene was poor: there were stains on the cutlery and dust on the coffee cups. With dessert, we were given large tablespoons instead of proper cutlery, which was inconvenient. Furthermore, when we ordered a glass of water, we were served lukewarm tap water, which didn't seem very hospitable. The timing of the food also left much to be desired. The fried potatoes weren't served until our plate of meat was already empty. Furthermore, only a small container of mayonnaise was provided for five people. The spareribs, which the menu said were supposed to come from the Big Green Egg, completely lacked the promised grilled flavor. Only the barbecue sauce had a slight smokiness, presumably due to added flavoring rather than actual cooking. All in all, this completely fell short of our expectations. Too bad, because the concept sounds promising, but the execution clearly left a lot to be desired.

We ate here for the first time last Thursday during our vacation in Hardenberg. The food was incredibly delicious, good quality, and the service was quick. Highly recommended.

We ate out twice during our vacation and it was truly wonderful! Both lunch and dinner were well-prepared, delicious, and there was more than enough food. We were even asked if we had enough. Personally, I didn't need the vegetables or the striped potatoes with dinner. All in all: a delicious meal and definitely worth repeating!

We ate at this restaurant for the first time, and it's highly recommended. The staff are very friendly, and the owner is incredibly welcoming to his guests. We had a good laugh, but above all, the food was delicious! You can taste the wonderful grilled flavor in the meat. My first steak wasn't quite right, which can happen, of course, but the owner fixed it right away, and it was delicious! We'll definitely be back if we're ever in the area again.

Truly excellent. Honest product, no nonsense, pure, and hospitable/friendly service. I had the tartare as a starter and then the tenderloin steak for the main course with a very affordable bottle of Rioja. When making my reservation, I indicated that I have a gluten intolerance. They thoroughly inquired about this, and I was given plenty of options. Conclusion: Definitely worth repeating.

We went here for lunch and had a delicious vegetable soup to start, which was nice and warm. Then came carpaccio, though they forgot the truffle mayonnaise. I also had delicious fresh bread with herb butter. For dessert, I had crème brûlée, which was delicious, not too thin, and with a crispy crust, just as it should be.

When you arrive you will immediately notice the restaurant. It is rightly called the tree trunk restaurant. It is a bit like a Canadian lodge. The food was of reasonable quality. The sucade in particular was very tasty. The barn swallows nests on the terrace are also an attraction in themselves

Very unfriendly and uncooperative staff. Came here with an elderly lady with a walker. We had to wait for a spot, I think they wanted to grab a chair for her to wait.

It was very expensive and the ratio of food to price is not relative. For example, you order chicken satay and you get a piece of chicken for 22 euros and you have to share the fries with your friend because it comes for two people. It is very expensive and very little. I do not recommend it. The guys there get paid illegally too.

The food was of very good quality. The schnitzel was tender and the onions and mushrooms were well fried. The dishes of my table companions were also very good. The fries were fried nicely brown. (Unfortunately only a small bowl for 5 people. The extra portion was immediately ordered, but only arrived after everyone had cleared their plates 🥴.) The most important thing is that the food is tasty and it was 😄. We will definitely go back again.

What a nice restaurant right on the road with plenty of parking. And open on Mondays. You can certainly have a nice lunch here. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere. Nice menu, lots of choice. And delicious cappuccino. If we are ever in the area again, we would love to come back!

The food was good, delicious seasonal dish (pulled pork) according to grandma's recipe, served with mixed seasonal vegetables and apple compote (which was delicious with raisins and fresh apple pieces). Service was smooth and portions were quickly replenished if desired. The portion of stew was generous.

Had lunch here today. Wasn't busy but we waited 45 minutes for an omelet. Which wasn't an omelet but more like scrambled eggs with vegetables. Not seasoned so quite tasteless. I had this problem all afternoon 🙁 All in all we were a bit disappointed because it is really cozy inside!

Went for dinner on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is easy to reach and has sufficient parking spaces. It is all tastefully decorated. We were kindly welcomed. It was not very busy and it was pleasant. Not super quiet, but a place where you could laugh together without bothering others. We ate three courses. It was really delicious! An appetizer on the house beforehand. The plates are beautifully laid out. The meat dishes were truly sublime. Straight from the grill and not tough. There were also warm vegetables on your plate, a crowl salad and farmer's fries. The dessert was also delicious. Ice cream from Bosman ice cream farm in the region. The delicious whipped cream was also surprising. Not such an airy/gassy dollop, but a delicious cream. In short, it was a surprise to eat there and you really got value for your money. It is definitely recommended. Another compliment goes to the staff. Very friendly and regularly asked if everything was okay. If you wanted something to drink, there was always someone around to serve you. In short, highly recommended for a fun evening out with delicious food.

Nice place in Hardenberg. I had dinner here with my boyfriend last Thursday. It is an easy to find location close to the highway. There is a busy intersection nearby, but you will not experience any disturbance if you sit outside on the terrace. We had nice chairs and lovely waitresses. The food was all beautifully prepared and tasted great! There are also a number of options for vegetarians, so that's very nice! The appearance of the restaurant looks a bit log cabin-like, but the type of food served is not necessarily what you would expect. (In a positive sense). It was also all very affordable. We paid €92.60 for 2 people. We both had 3 courses and 3 drinks. Maybe see you next time!
