Every year on a visit to Gouda, always a lunch at Copper. Top

The burger and the three-fish tartine were delicious. The staff are very friendly and the place is charming. One star less for the high prices, especially the bottle of water.

I had a really bad experience here. I ordered sea bass as a main course and asked if it came with vegetables and potatoes. They said it did. When they served it, they only brought the sea bass with nothing on the side. 😳 They said they had some fried leek on top. But really, not up to par for a main course. After that, I had to go to the chip shop to satisfy my hunger! I did pay the full price. You should expect a proper meal with a main course, but this was subpar! Sorry to say! The service was very poor. After I complained, they said there had been a miscommunication, but they stuck to their guns and didn't accommodate me. I won't be back, what a shame! 🫤🤔!!! Only positive: the sea bass was well prepared.

If you're looking for a cozy, casual spot in Amsterdam where you can enjoy truly delicious food and feel instantly welcome, Brasserie Copper is highly recommended. The Food Brasserie Copper is all about sharing flavors. The menu features a delicious selection of smaller dishes, perfect for sharing or for sampling a bit of everything yourself. We chose a mix of dishes, from crispy pork belly with a surprising yuzu dressing to creamy burrata with grilled peach and pistachio. Each plate was beautifully presented and carefully prepared. The flavors were bold, well-balanced, and surprisingly refined for a brasserie. The chef seems to truly enjoy combining classics with a creative twist. The truffle risotto, for example, was a feast: creamy, rich, and perfectly seasoned. Drinks and Ambience The wine list is compact but well-thought-out, with a nice selection of European wines. We opted for a crisp Verdejo, which paired perfectly with the light dishes. Another nice touch: there's plenty of choice for those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks, including homemade mocktails. The restaurant's atmosphere is casual and warm, with a modern interior dominated by wood, copper accents, and soft lighting. Think stylish, unfussy coziness. Service What really stood out was the excellent service. We were warmly welcomed immediately upon arrival and had our first drink on the table within minutes. The staff is attentive, genuinely interested, and knowledgeable about the dishes and wines. That gives you the feeling of being in good hands – and we certainly were. A special moment Halfway through the evening, the staff suddenly started singing softly – it turned out someone on the team was celebrating their birthday. Instead of a standard birthday song, they performed a short, humorous improvisation with the entire restaurant as an audience. Everyone joined in the laughter, and even our neighbors at our table, two tourists from Italy, clapped along enthusiastically. These kinds of unexpected moments make an evening extra special. Price-quality The prices are more than reasonable for the quality you receive. For an evening of extensive dining and drinks, we paid around €40 to €50 per person. Not cheap, but worth every penny. Conclusion Brasserie Copper strikes the perfect balance between casual and refined. You immediately feel at home, the food is surprisingly good, and you're treated as if you've been a regular for years.

Eaten here a few times, always tasty and nice atmosphere both inside and on the terrace.

Upon arrival I ordered a cocktail that initially wasn’t quite to my taste – a bit too bitter and not quite balanced. When I pointed this out, the staff responded kindly and offered to adjust the cocktail without any problems. What a difference! The adjusted version was really delicious – fresh, perfectly balanced and with just the right twist. A real example of how good service can turn an experience around. The staff was friendly, attentive and hospitable all evening. In short: a small disappointment at the beginning, but that is exactly why I was extra surprised by how well everything was resolved. I will definitely come back here!

I had the opportunity to try some of the cocktails and highly recommend them. I loved the friendly staff and the young, modern atmosphere.

This was the 2nd time I've been there. First time on a Sunday I was told that the kitchen was already closed it was 2000. Then we had a delicious meal at the neighbours, restaurant de swing. Tonight attempt 2 we took the chataubriand for two, this cost 78 euros for 8 slices of meat with a portion of fries. On average about 10 euros for 2 bites. I will never eat there again, price quality / quantity is not up to the absurdly high prices they ask for at least the chataubriand.

Vandaag met z'n tweeën gaan eten bij Copper. Omdat we er nog niet eerder geweest waren, vonden we het leuk het eens uit te proberen. De atmosfeer is gezellig, zeker ook leuk om tot in de late uurtjes nog een drankje te doen. (wat hier ook kan) De zaak is gelegen aan de markt in Gouda, je kijkt uit op het stadhuis wat voor de toeristen onder ons ook leuk is, zeker vanaf het terras. Het interieur is met sfeervol gedimd licht en de zaak zat vrijwel vol. Over het geheel hadden we prima gerechten die ook zeker niet lafjes waren, goed op smaak. Daar houden wij ook wel van. De Bun Bao kip was best smaakvol, maar zeker niet te pittig. De wijnen waren minder spannend, maar wel toegankelijk. Al met al hebben we prima gegeten, voor een best redelijke prijs. Met name de jonge bediening viel op. Ze liepen af en aan en letten zeer goed op, maar toch ongedwongen en gastvrij. Écht een goed team wat ze hadden lopen. Aangezien ik zelf in de Horeca werk let ik hier toch onbewust ook op. Bedankt voor een leuk diner, we komen zeker nog eens terug!

Onaardig werd ik als klant genoemd, omdat ik niet op wilde staan omdat ze een 6 p tafel voor mensen van binnen buiten wilde maken, bitterballen waren er niet,omdat ze een feest hadden gehad

What a wonderful evening we had at Brasserie Copper. We enjoyed a shared dinner of four starters, all of which were incredibly tasty. Add a glass of good Chardonnay, a delicious dessert and coffee. Rarely have I had such a delicious meal at a restaurant. The service was also fine and accurate. We will definitely come back!

Wonderful place for breakfast, lunch, a nice drink or a delicious dinner. Service is always top notch, and the atmosphere is friendly and cozy. An absolute must in Gouda!

Copper offers a 3-course menu for €42. We thought it was a nice idea... upon arrival it smelled strongly of sewage inside, which was annoying, but we had made a reservation and were sad to cancel. The restaurant looks cozy inside, it was Sunday evening, but it was by no means full. When studying the 3-course menu, it was noticed that many starters and all but 3 main courses had an additional charge. In some cases quite significant. Chateaubriand is excluded in any case and the only dishes without an additional charge are sea bass, tournedos Rossini and pointed cabbage, the latter of which does not really make your mouth water, although that is personal. Anyway, ordered the tournedos Rossini, but according to the waitress this was not allowed without an additional charge, which is not apparent from the menu. She went to ask in the kitchen, but came back with the same message. This is not very nice: offering a 3-course menu for a fixed price, while almost the entire menu is at an additional cost and then excluding anything outside the menu. No compromise or compensation was offered, so we left after 1 drink and had a delicious meal elsewhere: a 3-course menu for a fixed price, without unpleasant surprises, so that's how it works. Too bad, 4 customers resigned, who will never return. This was in early December 2024, but the map has still not been updated!

Gezellige zaak. Druk maar niet overheersend. Wel jammer dat je door de rookwalm heen naar binnen en buiten moet heerlijke gerechten, maar weinig vegatarische opties. Beetje onervaren maar vrendelijk personeel. Prijs wat aan de hoge kant.

What a wonderful experience! The atmosphere in this store is warm and inviting, the interior is beautiful and immediately creates a relaxed feeling. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, just as you would hope. The food was a real taste sensation: fresh, beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned. The drinks were also delicious, with a surprisingly extensive menu. This is definitely a place I would love to come back to. Compliments to the entire team!

I have now eaten here a number of times, both on the terrace and inside. What is immediately noticeable is the well-trained staff and the eye for detail. The menu is surprising and very affordable for what you get served. They also make good cocktails... I can't really find anything negative here. Highly recommended!! 🙏🏻❤️

You come to eat, spend 670 euros, and are only pushed to keep eating. Owner (Jill L) says that you should keep your mouth shut when you indicate that the plates of the main course are still on the table when they want to serve the dessert. The moment you have paid, the owner no longer has anything to report to you, since from that point on you are no longer worth anything to them. Really top class service from Jill L.

Host told us to shut our mouth. 1/10 would not recommend if you want to be treated nicely. Paid 650 euros and got told off. They even rushed you the whole experience

Always enjoyed eating at Copper, although the service tonight was appalling. It's logical that Lichtjesavond is busy and there is a lot of stress involved, but simply throwing down plates and saying "look who it's for" is the lowest form of service I have ever experienced in a restaurant; especially since this came from the manager. Disappointing, because the food is of good quality.

Came for dinner with a large group tonight. Reserved for 6:00 PM, it was stated three times that we had to leave at 7:30 PM. By the way, the email says 7:45 PM. We ate in a very hurry, but because of the evening lights this was understandable and we are not the most difficult. After the otherwise delicious starter and main course, dessert came immediately after the last bite was consumed. Then the trouble started, the plates for the main course were still there, the servant could not fit the desserts and after one of us said 'maybe the plates should go first' the response was immediately as follows; “I think you should keep your big….” After we told them that we did not find this acceptable, nothing was done about it and the response was blunt. As a manager, this is not the way to deal with guests. Had to pay promptly at 7:30 PM, with the otherwise very sweet other clerk. Unfortunately I went home with a bad feeling and an unpleasant evening We won't be coming back here again!

I'm really flabbergasted. Been coming here for years and with satisfaction! Tonight I had dinner with 12 people (children and supporters) for my birthday. We were 10 minutes late due to traffic jams. The food was delicious, but the marathon was nothing. We had to hurry because we had to be gone at half past eight. On the phone they said a quarter to 8, but at some point the desserts arrived on the table while the plates of the main courses were still in front of us. My daughter said “don't the plates have to be removed first” and the waiter said “how do you imagine that” and my daughter said “just by removing the plates. The service then said; “You should just shut your big mouth.” Everyone heard it, and I couldn't believe my ears. Later it turned out that these “professional” words came from the owner! Giving my daughter a few more death glares, I got the bill. I asked to speak to the owner but had to pay the bill first. A few minutes later I get to speak to her. I started by saying that I understand that it is busy and stressful, but that this absolutely cannot be said by the waiter/owner. Her answer; I also sometimes think that something is not possible and you were too late!!! Serious? After that I had a lot of things going to my head. I will NEVER come here again! Very unprofessional and very rude. This lady absolutely does not belong in the catering industry!

We were 10 minutes late for our reservation and were sent away before our dessert and drinks were finished. But even more reason to never come again is that my group was told: 'you have to keep your big mouth shut'. And that by the owner. And in response to your response. You brought dessert when the main courses were still on the table. You: 'I can't put it anywhere' Us: “That's because the plates for the main course are still there.” You: 'Yes and what can we do about that?' Us: “Maybe take the signs down.” You: “Maybe you should shut your big mouth.” Us: “What makes you think you can talk to your customers like that?” You: 'We sometimes really feel like slaves in the ministry' Us: “That's annoying, but it's your job.” It's remarkable that you have time to respond to this review now. You told me to react this way because you are so stressed and busy?

The food at Copper was tasty, unlike the service. We had to eat in a very hurry, which was clearly indicated in the email, but it took another fifteen minutes to pick up on the spot. As a result, we received dessert while the main course had not even been removed from the table. When someone from our table made a comment about this, due to lack of space on the table, she was scolded by the owner of Copper. It is unacceptable to let yourself go like that as the owner of a restaurant. One of the waitresses was also very rude during this situation. The waiter who helped us the rest of the evening was very friendly and helpful.

Heerlijk gegeten, heel gezellige zaak om te vertoeven. Enige minpuntje is de slechte akoestiek wanneer er veel volk is. Maar zeker een aanrader! Wij namen de sharing plates, waren mooi verzorgd en uiteindelijk met 2 voor 120€ gegeten incl. fles wijn en elk een cocktail. Top!

It's a really nice place to have lunch

I have been to eat a few times now, I have given each a new chance by ordering a different dish, but the food is of very low quality, everything tastes frozen, I ordered chicken with avocado toast, the chicken tasted like nothing and was very dry and the sandwich tasted like rusk, moreover, the service is okay, but the price for this quality is much high, it is certainly not recommended, I prefer to go to the Mac

The prices here are high, higher than at other restaurants on the Markt. The quality and quantity of the food do not justify those prices. The service is friendly and the decoration is excellent.

Place looks great and the atmosphere was good too, however I received a watered down Old Fashioned with a very sad looking peel and while ordering a new drink got a “well that is how we always make it” when asked for feedback as I hadn’t finished it… The starter was great (fresh tuna), but my main (Tournedos) was cold and while the 3 others had warm food I felt let down. Usually I’d let them know, but after the response to my feedback on the Old Fashioned I decided to just deal with it. The mojito and Crème Brûlée I had afterward were great, however one of us (thankfully not me) had a clumpy crème brûlée. Inconsistency in the food + slightly snark staff. Pretty sad considering we spent over €90 per person.

Waiting for the meal for over an hour, three people. Lobster soup, creamy tomato flavor, plus three shrimps - tasty, maybe it should be like that, but then sea bream was also served on this soup. Ik ga hier NOOIT meer heen. Ik ben gezellig met mijn vriendinnen een avondje uit, tenminste dat dachten we. We kregen de coquilles uitgeserveerd, die vonden wij niet helaas niet zo lekker. Dit hebben wij eerlijk tegen de ober gezegd, hij nam het gerecht mee terug naar de keuken. Hij bood ons een ander gerecht aan, dit vonden wij een nette oplossing. Bij de bon bleken de coquilles toch op de bon te staan. Wij hebben hier wat van gezegd, vonden het jammer, maar hebben toch netjes de rekening betaald. Mijn vriendin sprak nog even met de eigenaresse hierover, de eigenaresse antwoordde “ik hoef jouw k*k kop hier toch nooit meer te zien”. Zo ga je niet met je gasten om. Ik vind het erg onprofessioneel en ben hier erg boos over. Ik ga hier geen euro meer uitgeven.

Cozy brasserie. Food and drinks were tasty. Cheese board was expensive for the limited amount of cheese you got. Management was not very experienced and did not pay attention.

This business is not customer oriented. In the event of errors (which can happen), they do not want to provide you as a customer with a suitable solution. Update: That's right. 'Wessel's boyfriend, yes.' And instead of such a smart comment, you can also take a customer-oriented approach and at least pretend that you care. It also doesn't look good on other people.

Beautiful brasserie in the center of Gouda. Very tasty food and friendly staff. Not the cheapest, but highly recommended.

We were in Gouda for the Christmas market, and I had made a reservation in advance because of the crowds and that was a good thing. The store is fairly neatly decorated, but the use of materials and warm lighting mean it is certainly not cold. We were warmly welcomed and our coats and my walker were taken care of. The service is really fantastic: really nice, no fake smiles, knowledgeable, quick and even though the box was full, there was time for explanations and even a very short chat. The menu is not very large, but enough to find something you like. The food is really good and prepared with care, you can tell in everything, and for a reasonable price. Be sure to take a basket of bread beforehand, really delicious bread with truffle butter, of which I think you could serve a lick more. Afterwards, our coats were neatly collected and we were helped outside because it is a bit inconvenient with a walker. A truly top store in the mid-range segment, we will definitely go there again when we are in Gouda.

Nadat een serveerster een glas bier over m’n jas liet vallen werd er mij alleen aangeboden om de jas bij copper achter te laten zodat zij deze konden laten stomen. Ik had duidelijk aangegeven dat dit geen optie voor mij was omdat ik niet in de buurt woonde en dan in de winter zonder jas naar huis moest (15km). Helaas was dit de enige optie en werd mij kortaf en onvriendelijk verteld dat ik dan pech had en alle kosten zelf moest betalen. Helaas zeer slechte service en een bedrijf wat slecht tegen kritiek aangezien de reacties die ik heb gekregen. Voor mij zeker niet meer.
