The brown bread we ordered turned into white bread, and we got the wine ourselves. The waiters were busy on their phones. The requested napkins never arrived. And the bill was far too high. They said it couldn't have been done differently due to the system...

Great location for a quick stopover. Very friendly staff.

After a beautiful day on April 29th, we wanted to eat something. At the start, we were told that quite a few dishes on the menu were unavailable. However, the menu still offered plenty of choice. What was striking was that the menu was completely different from what was listed on the website. After we submitted our choice, it turned out that even more dishes were unavailable. We then had to wait 45 minutes for our dishes to be served. There was only one other couple at another table; the rest was empty, so it couldn't have been due to the crowds. The vegetarian dish turned out to be a beetroot carpaccio. Tasty in itself, but very small. This really shouldn't be a main course; it wouldn't have been bad as a starter. The meat was excellent, well-prepared, and tender. However, while we had ordered red port sauce, one meat dish was served with mushroom sauce and another with pepper sauce. There was a very small bowl of fries for four people, but we could have ordered more at no extra cost. Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time for that as well, so all our plates were empty. As soon as the fries were brought out, our plates and cutlery were immediately cleared. Oh well, we'll just eat the fries with our hands. We skipped dessert and coffee. We'll never be back.

Die Preis Leistung in diesem Restaurant passt leider vorne und hinten nicht. 1. Punkt das die Preise nicht komplett ausgezeichnet sind, und in der Menue Karte das komplette Gericht nicht hervorgeht. Auf Nachfrage wurde gesagt das Salat und Pommes dabei sind. Der Salat wurde komplett rohkost ohne Dressing serviert und die Pommes hätte man weg schmeißen müssen VOR dem ausgeben. Die waren so derart hart frittiert das es nicht mal möglich war mit der Gabel hinein zu stechen. Davon mal abgesehen waren 2 Schüsseln Salat und 2 Schüsseln Pommes für 8 Erwachsene und 3 Kinder absolut ungenügend. Das Fass zum überlaufen brachte aber letztendlich die Rechnung, an der man sag das man die netten Deutschen Touristen wieder über den Tisch ziehen kann. Etliche Produkte waren falsch oder zu viel auf der Quittung. Da alles nach einem langen Tag geschah ist das erst beim zusammen rechnen später des Abends aufgefallen. Bezahlt wurde zusammen von einer Person. Ich kann also nur davon abraten Vertrauen zu schenken und sofort alles zu kontrollieren. Vom.Gefühl her hat die Dame des Hauses ihren Wein den sie getrunken hat, auf unsere Rechnung gesetzt. Das Stück Steak was leider in die Küche zurück gehen musste um von Englisch auf Medium gebraten zu werden, wurde leider trotz des netten Hinweises der Amerikanischen Kellnerin auf dem selben dreckigen Teller serviert. Also Fazit. Keine weiter Empfehlungen und kein Wiedersehen. Auch wenn das Ambiente einlud.... Schade....

We ordered sole and well-done steak. It was very disappointing. The sole were lukewarm and a bit red on the inside, and the steak wasn't cooked through. Very disappointing, and for that price! Last visit there. We'd rather go to the pancake restaurant across the street.

We had a wonderful walk in Buren (a fortified town). We used an app that showed the route and shared interesting facts about the history of Buren. Afterwards, we finished with a drink on a terrace. The service was very friendly and helpful.

On November 28, 2024 (!!!), I made a reservation for January 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Last Saturday, we arrived with the family (12 people, the very reason I'd booked so early), and it turned out there was a baby shower, so the entire restaurant was full. After inquiring with the staff, the excuse was "that the restaurant will no longer be open next week due to a takeover," as if it were any less serious to simply show a group of 12 the door? Our family comes from various parts of the Netherlands, and this restaurant was conveniently located in the middle! What a bummer that we had to find somewhere else, which is quite difficult for a group of 12 on a Saturday afternoon!

Had a nice lunch. There was a menu with a wide choice. When we entered we were not spoken to while we had made a reservation, we looked for a table ourselves, the staff was busy with the only other table. Were we welcome?

We were in a hurry, but still wanted a quick, tasty lunch. My husband chose a carpaccio sandwich, while I went for a brie sandwich with fig jam. And what a delicious meal it was! While I savored it, my husband looked enviously at my plate—his sandwich suddenly had competition. The atmosphere? Cozy and relaxed, despite the time pressure. The service? Nice and fast, just what we needed. And the staff? Super friendly. We'll definitely be back!

Very nice brasserie for lunch! The Hot chicken sandwich is highly recommended.

We waited for half an hour, then went inside to order, and did so, then waited another 20 minutes, so we went to the other side where we were immediately helped. If you don't have enough staff, close your terrace and don't let people in. wait...no one was really helped, never come to the Royal Household again.

How long did it take... not normal. At least 20 minutes before recording and then before the order arrived. Took a really long time. The fresh apple pie was very tasty, but it was very expensive......

Lunch used to be good and often here. Pastries weren't very fresh back then. Service and atmosphere were still quite okay Over time it deteriorates. Experienced it several times now. Mint tea is a weak tea with 2 sprigs. The cookies have become smaller. The salads are just not okay anymore. Too simple, austere and no longer tasty. Anyone can make this and make it better. Sitting outside with weeds on the terrace and rotten window frames no longer makes it pleasant. Very unfortunate. It was okay and I came there more often. Now it seems like a faded glory.

We were quickly helped with drinks, immediately given lunch and then we were forgotten, our food did not come, visitors who came later received their food, we did not, ordered another drink and it was not brought, asked where everything was, oh yes it's coming, there was no apology either so it was all bad NOT RECOMMENDED a grade 3

Wat een vreselijke ervaring. Wat een leuke gezellige lunch moest worden eindige in een middag vol irritatie. We hadden om 10 uur sochtend gebeld om zeker te zijn van een plekje in de schaduw vanwege een hondje die mee ging. Dit ging de dame regelen zei ze. Eenmaal aangekomen was er geen tafeltje in de schaduw meer beschikbaar en hebben we gewacht tot er wat beschikbaar kwam.. er was dus geen rekening gehouden met onze reservering. Vervolgens hebben we 10 minuten gewacht tot de drankjes opgenomen werden. We hadden onze bestelling geplaatst en 45 minuten later kwam de serveerster vertellen dat de bestelling van mijn vriend niet gemaakt kon worden en dat hij wat anders moest uitzoeken. 2 minuten later werd mijn eten geserveerd. Ik had dus mijn eten gekregen en de keuken ging nu pas met zijn bestelling aan de slag.. op mijn burger waren ze ook nog de bacon vergeten. Deze kreeg ik na navragen wel apart geleverd, maar helaas ijskoud. Als kers op de taart heeft mijn vriend nog ruim 40 minuten moeten wachten op zijn eten, bovenop de reeds 45 min van ervoor. Ik had al ruimschoots mijn eten op en we waren het eigenlijk al meer dan zat.. Ook het wachten op wat drankjes duurd minimaal 15/20 minuten. Echt een vreselijke ervaring. Heel erg zonde van ons geld. Wij komen hier nooit meer!!!!!!!

What a terrible experience. What was supposed to be a nice, pleasant lunch ended in an afternoon full of irritation. We had called at 10 o'clock in the morning to be sure of a spot in the shade because a dog was coming along. The lady was going to arrange this, she said. Once we arrived, there was no longer a table available in the shade and we waited until something became available... so our reservation had not been taken into account. We then waited 10 minutes for the drinks to be taken. We placed our order and 45 minutes later the waitress came to tell me that my friend's order couldn't be made and that he had to find something else. 2 minutes later my food was served. So I had received my food and the kitchen was only now starting to process its order... they had also forgotten the bacon on my burger. After asking, I received this separately, but unfortunately it was ice cold. As icing on the cake, my friend had to wait more than 40 minutes for his food, on top of the previous 45 minutes. I had already eaten more than enough food and we were actually more than fed up with it.. The wait for some drinks also takes at least 15/20 minutes. A truly terrible experience. Very bad waste of our money. We will never come here again!!!!!!! P.s. I understand that there is a staff shortage, but having children between the ages of 5 and 7 (estimated) serve and collect drinks is shocking to me.

Great location both outside and inside a good atmosphere. Here too, vacancies for staff, despite that, they were helped well and quickly. We were in no hurry at all.

Ondanks het feit dat er overal gebrek is aan medewerkers en de wachttijd soms wat langer is, hebben we genoten van het heerlijke terras, heerlijke lunch en vriendelijke bediening.

Anyway, after a long search, I finally found a restaurant that opens on Mondays. Selected a spot in the shade. The waitress was busy telling a story to the other table when she stood with her back to my seat. After 5 minutes I thought it was enough and asked her if she had some time for us. She turned around and said I don't like such a comment. She walked away. We also missed out on turnover of 40 euros. Sad for such a nice location. Advice to the owner, pay attention to your staff.

We happened to cycle by and had a delicious meal on the terrace. We personally found the club sandwich very tasty. Price - quality top! Nice service, I will definitely come back!

Het kan gebeuren dat je bent onderbezet in de keuken. Geef dat aan, zet een bord neer alleen voor drankjes. Laat niet mensen een half uur zitten voor bediening rond enen (drie medewerkers, redelijk terras qua grootte). Waarna je zegt nee we nemen geen eten meer aan. Laat je medewerkers niet met 'ja maar' verhalen komen. Ik verwijt het de medewerkers niet maar het management. Niet gastvrij.

Enjoyed our own Hofke beer and Belgian specialty beer on a lovely terrace. Nice and attentive staff who communicated well about the waiting times. Sad that some guests cannot have a little patience and understanding for a catering entrepreneur with temporarily fewer staff.

It may happen that you are understaffed in the kitchen. Indicate that, put a sign just for drinks. Don't let people sit for half an hour for service around one o'clock (three employees, reasonable terrace size). After which you say no, we will no longer accept food. Don't let your employees come up with 'yes, but' stories. I don't blame the employees but the management. Not hospitable.

Unfortunately, no food after 45 minutes. When we asked, we had to wait another 15 minutes, we eventually left after an hour without eating. If there is a shortage of staff and you know that guests will have to wait longer, it is good to indicate this in advance.

Friendly service, but without any catering experience or customer focus. Don't see guests coming in, don't look to see if guests have happened to sit on the terrace. We sat there for at least twenty minutes and other guests were simply ignored. A couple was preparing to leave again, eventually just asking for attention. Efficiency is hard to find, bad for turnover and customers. Too bad about the good location.

The table had not been cleared. The serving girl knew nothing at all. €12.00 for 2 half glasses of chardonnay is ridiculous for a place like this. Perhaps I should add something: previously this was a super tent under the name “De Boergondier”. Always very pleasant and super tasty food, now an average cafe where there is no atmosphere or conviviality at all and where quality has lost out to commerce. Shame. The royal town of Buren deserves (much) better than this average place.

Caesar salad covered in salad dressing. Only lamb's lettuce, tomato, egg and chicken. Not to eat.

Ceasarsaled niet lekker. Overgoten met slasaus of iets dergelijks. Zurig. Croutons kant en klaar, supermarktsmaak. Weinig gevarieerde groenten. Kippendijen niet krokant door de saus. Brrrr.....

No knowledge of the beers. Draft beer contained too little gas and was not tasty. Nothing cozy and expensive

The menu and food are completely fine. Nice meal. Nice location and cozy furnishings. Staff are nice and helpful. But could be a little faster. Despite the staff shortage. Maybe a bit more efficient.

Net wezen lunchen bij de Hofhouding met mijn man. Mijn salade werd totaal vergeten, ondanks er nogmaals naar vragen. Je krijgt gewoon geen reactie. Mijn man had zijn eten al lang en breed op en ik nog steeds geen salade. Niet bepaald gezellig lunchen. Uiteindelijk zonder salade te eten vertrokken. Echt waardeloze service. Ons zie je hier niet meer terug.

We went to the Royal Household for lunch. The food itself was good, but not special. It took a very long time before we were served lunch. The restaurant referred to the staff shortage and invited everyone to apply. The atmosphere inside and outside was good. It looks cozy.

Nice location to park your car and go for a bike ride. Cherry Route. We drank coffee there. No decaf available, a thousand excuses friendly, especially young service. That is not self-evident, so be careful. Renovations are underway inside. Cables on the floor not taped, risk of falling! Would definitely go back.

When we wanted to have a bite to eat with our acquaintances on Wednesday around 4 p.m., after a long bike ride, we ended up at Brasserie de Hofhouden in Buren. It was widely indicated outside that you could drink coffee and cake, have lunch and dinner there. It was quiet but we decided to take a chance and went inside. After looking at the menu we decided what we would like to order. To our great surprise, we could not order more than coffee/tea and perhaps something to add, but food was out of the question. The kitchen was closed!. We were all astonished and when we asked about alternatives we found out nothing more than that the pancake house was questionable, the Italian eatery in the main street was closed and a restaurant at the beginning of the village (near the bridge) was probably closed because they were there. had unclear opening hours. We could possibly go to Geldermalsem, but we just cycled from there. We just got up and gave it a try at the pancake house. No success. Tables that were not cleared and no staff were seen, so we left. (not a good experience there last year either). We ended up having something to eat at a local cafeteria. Fries and something with that. An experience richer but certainly an illusion poorer, we cycled out of Buren shaking our heads. It's a faded glory, in terms of catering, so to speak, but we were in a good mood.

Perhaps a little too early (12 o'clock?) but the atmosphere (outside on the terrace) was not very inviting and the young lady at the counter still has a lot to learn about hospitality. We stuck to coffee, which is fine by the way. ;)

Service was clearly inexperienced. Friendly, but made a few mistakes. Eating is not that exciting. We had steak and Rendang. The steak was a bit bland in taste and I think the quality could be better. Almost no vegetables and lots of fries that were a bit on the soft side. Rendang was tasty but also the same fries and few vegetables. We also had to wait quite a long time for the food.

Nice to sit outside for lunch. Good choice of food and drinks. Good service.

Had a great meal here, but what terrible service. With the salad I had the choice of white or brown bread, the waitress didn't even ask, so I just ordered it myself. Then I had to wait a very long time for my lunch and when I asked about it after half an hour, the response was irritated. When it was finally served, I still got WHITE bread instead of brown. So I still asked for and received brown (with an apology, that's the only positive). At checkout the standard question whether everything was satisfactory was missing. Then just mention the negative review here.

De Hofhouden has a very cozy terrace in a cute town. The service was very friendly and they were very accommodating about special dietary requests. The menu is varied and extensive, definitely recommended for a tasty lunch.

Extremely dissatisfied with this experience. First of all, we arrive at 12:55, reserved for 1:00 PM for 6 adults and 3 children, and we are told that our table inside has already been taken, but we can still sit outside. Fortunately it is dry and we want to go outside, but it is already starting to feel strange. Then the drinks are absorbed; one of us was still thinking for a while and the waiter just walks away. Terribly grumpy person. We asked if we could be served by someone else, but in retrospect we should have gone to the pancake restaurant across the street at that time… Finally, after waiting for 45 minutes, we asked where the food was. There was no update or apology from the service either. Once we got the food it was also a huge disappointment. The fries from the rendang were swimming in the liquid of the bean sprouts, and for around €20, we would have expected better portions of both the rendang and the satay. One person was very satisfied, that was one of the children who had a plate of fries with a frikandel (also for €10..) and after all the waiting almost fell over from hunger. After the last bite we left as quickly as possible. No excuses for the long wait, no cup of coffee or tea on the house, no excuses for the unfriendly service... I think you understand; We will certainly not come back here again and I would recommend that you go somewhere else.

It may happen that you order oat cappuccino and that it is prepared with buttermilk. But despite this error, the quality of the cappuccino (I had a normal cappuccino) is far below par. It's coffee with milk. Then you have a good espresso machine, a good bean grinder. Make sure you train your staff in the correct preparation. Such a shame.

We received our drinks fairly quickly, then had to wait at least 45 minutes before we could or were even allowed to order our lunch. We received no information about that either. A pity.

Received the drink quickly, but had to wait at least 45 minutes for lunch, while people who arrived much later had already received their lunch! Then came the lunch that we didn't order! Ultimately got 2 different carpaccio salads (different lettuce instead of arugula, no seed mix and a different sauce instead of truffle mayonnaise). For a reason not to go back!!!

Very friendly service, fair prices and delicious food (crisp fresh salad with a delicious dressing, fries with the dishes were also delicious, large portions) and it was a bit quiet tonight. Therefore 4⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the atmosphere, but it was not due to the service, they were very hospitable and involved. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Beautiful and attractive old building too!

This evening we had a delicious meal with family at the Hofhouden. Very friendly and alert staff. Nice varied menu with something for everyone. Dessert to die for. Definitely coming back again!!

The food tasted good. But the time between starter and main course was more than an hour.

When we entered we should have already noticed the signals: chaotic service, no tables set and people "looking around". The first order of drinks took fifteen minutes, then another quarter before they were served. Starter took an hour (Nachos and breadboard) because they lost the receipt. Then waited over an hour for a hamburger. Synonym for this place: chaos, slowness and no regard for work and guests. By the way, there were still 5 tables empty, 7 tables occupied and they couldn't keep it going. A shame for such a beautiful location in Buren.

Food was good. But service was mediocre. Waiting a very long time for your food. Getting up after 2.5 hours without dessert just took too long.

Very cozy brasserie, nice spacious tables and benches/chairs. You really feel welcome, the service is very cordial and professional. We enjoyed a delicious lunch with 4 people. It's nice that there are also good vegetarian options, we have been vegetarians for years. We will definitely come back!

Service was behoorlijk ongeorganiseerd tijdens ons bezoek. Gereserveerde tafels niet aangeduid, waardoor meerdere mensen van tafel moesten wisselen. Duurde behoorlijk lang voor we bediend werden.

Hele leuke plek. We zijn wezen lunchen. Heerlijk eten, supervriendelijke bediening. Sfeer op buitenterras en lekker in het zonnetje is super.

Hier gestopt voor de lunch. Broodje Mexicaans gehakt. De pistolets waren op, dus op een gewone boterham. De nacho’s en guacamole moest het Mexicaans maken. Had meer Mexicaanse smaak aan het gehakt verwacht. De hamburger van mijn tafelgenoot was eerst nog half rauw en later dood gebakken. Bedienend personeel deed zijn best, maar was verder kansloos. We hoefden niet te betalen voor de hamburger. Jammer.

Leuke Brasserie in bijna middeleeuws dorpje in oosten van het land,veel keuze menu en drink kaart, Eten smaakte goed en de sfeer rustig en gezellige mensen die langskwamen van een fiets/motor tour uit de omgeving om te eten of te drinken. JAMMER dat je alleen lang moet wachten op je bestelling terwijl het niet druk was. Daardoor maar geen dessert besteld.

We kwamen hier voor vicini, zijn tijdelijk samen ivm personeels te korten. Prima service en het eten is heerlijk. De ambiance kan wel een schoonmaak beurt gebruiken. Veel dode insecten op de vensterbanken en spinnen raggen.. zonde!

Nog nooit ergens zo slecht gegeten. Ik bestelde de nacho’s, volgens de kaart met tomaat, rode ui, salsa, kaas, crème fraiche en guacamole. Kreeg een bord met een berg nacho’s met wat gesmolten kaas en een kledder guacamole en crème fraiche. Toen ik vroeg naar de rest van de ingrediënten kreeg ik er een los schaaltje ui en tomaat bij. Heb het terug gestuurd naar de keuken, kreeg hetzelfde bord nacho’s met de ui en tomaat erover gestrooid en weer even in de oven gezet. Mijn vriend had de saté besteld, 2 stokjes, wat friet en minimale saus voor 19,50… Als excuses kregen we een drankje van het huis.

Erg lang moeten wachten op het eten, terwijl het niet druk was. Zelf initiatief moeten nemen door naar de bar te lopen om nog iets te bestellen. Eten was verder prima.
