Brasserie van Baerle in Museumkwartier

We ate here before a concert at the Concertgebouw. ​​The atmosphere was more than just a brasserie. We felt very welcome! Very hospitable and delicious food. Highly recommended.

Love this place. Good food and ambiance. Only one comment, it would be better if the waiter/waitress would be more connecting with the guests. I saw some difference in treatment in how they treated Dutch locals and English speaking people. I was with a English speaking group, while I’m native..but still saw that difference.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch today. Excellent service. Two dedicated and attentive young women. We both ordered plat de jour but actually meant the fish of the day. It was replaced without complaint and without a sound for the intended sea bass. Hats off. Exemplary service! Well done, Gloria and Roos!

We were seated on the first floor in a separate room, complete with a bar. It easily seats 20 people. Everything was excellent, including the food. The staff were friendly and attentive. However, the acoustics up there are poor; there's far too much reverb, and too little/no soundproofing. This makes it a real echo chamber. We were asked to keep our voices quiet, especially for the neighbors who live next door. We'd happily return because the overall experience was simply excellent.

We had a delicious meal on the lovely terrace before going to the Concertgebouw. Everything was perfectly prepared, the wine suggestions are also very nice. The service was knowledgeable, attentive, and enthusiastic. I would certainly return and recommend it for a special meal out.

A beautiful and classic restaurant with white tablecloths in the Pijp. The restaurant is located on the busy Van Baerlestraat. You can sit inside or on the charming terrace in the backyard. This is cozy decorated with plants. The space between the tables is sufficient. The service is by young people with relatively little experience, but they are friendly and enthusiastic. The food is mainly French oriented. I had Wijngaardslakken (6) | gratineerd | parsley-garlic butter as a starter and Tournedos as a main course. To be honest the meat was delicious, but very expensive at 48 Euro (actually only meat for this amount). Parking is expensive and very difficult, just like in the rest of Amsterdam.

Habíamos hecho una reserva para las 21:00 desde su página web y depositado 50 euros. El sitio web dijo que la cocina cierra a las 10 PM. Llegamos a las 9: 03 e inmediatamente la camarera dijo que solo nos podía ofrecer espárragos del menú ya que ee llegaban «tarde» y la cocina cerraba a las 10 : 00 PM. Lo cual no tiene sentido. La salida del menú lleva más de 3 minutos, así que ¿por qué aceptan reservas a las 21:00 si esa es la forma en que tratan a sus huéspedes? Así que en resumen este es un establecimiento que no respeta a sus huéspedes y tiene un problema de ego inflado. Era mi cumpleaños así que nos fuimos porque pensamos que merecíamos un mejor servicio con una sonrisa en una noche especial.

Seleccionamos el menú y todo fue excelente. Añadimos los vinos recomendados para cada uno de los cursos. El servicio fue muy bueno y el personal muy amable. El restaurante estaba bien decorado y limpio. Fue a 10 minutos a pie de nuestro hotel y en la tarde temprano en un jueves, una agradable zona tranquila de la ciudad. Por nuestra experiencia lo recomendaría encarecidamente.

the food is good, the staff is courteous, but the spacing between tables were kind of cramped, and my Asian guests found it more cramped than their shared rooms. perfect if you're eating with 2 - 3 people, but I'd recommend elsewhere if you're bringing 4 or more.

Booked to come and eat in the evening. When we arrived the reservation appeared not to have been registered. Probably a language problem. Apparently you can't make a reservation in Dutch here

We were at the brasserie during lunch time (around 13:30). Not many other clients were at the restaurant at that time. We were four people. The place is nice and has also a pretty outside space. Food that we got served was decent, although my wife was not happy with her food. Unfortunately, the in our opinion the service was quite poor. We waited approximately 10 minutes to get the menu in the first place. Then, we asked for water before the food, and despite it being available on tables closeby, we had to ask it 3-4 times before it was served to us, which made our short lunch last way longer than it should have.

Zo’n ongelooflijk fijn , gezellig, gastvrij en bovenal heerlijk restaurant. Zo willen wij uit eten. De bediening, de chef en zijn brigade…. ge-wel-dig. We komen er graag. Eigenlijk niet vaak genoeg.

Review of Brasserie van Baerle dated March 23, 2025 This place may be a bit more expensive: food quality, location, etc. However, last Sunday's plat de jour was a big disappointment, while the meat was really tasty. What went wrong there? First of all, it was bizarrely expensive compared to the other dishes on the menu, namely 48 Euro (we would have liked to have known in advance), a lot of meat (we would have liked to have known in advance), no vegetables, just some lettuce (we would have liked to have known in advance) and we also had to pay extra for the fries. In short, a miss. Brasserie van Baerle has also received this review, but has not yet responded.

I LOVE this place. We’ve been coming here for the past few years. We always try to fit in a dinner here whenever our travels include Europe. I love the atmosphere of this place. Not only is the food delicious, the staff, first class! Service is impeccable! We are on our way home to Washington from Spain. Since we flew KLM (another favorite of mine!), we fly out of Schiphol. We chose a flight out that would allow us to dine at Brasserie van Baerle. Love, love this place!

Heerlijk geluncht bij deze fijne brasserie. Sinds jaren herkenbaar met constante kwaliteit. Mooie gerechten en wijnen, gemoedelijke sfeer en geweldige bediening. Amsterdam, Oud Zuid op zijn best.

Nice ambiance, good service, but the lunch prepared by the kitchen was substandard. As if students from the culinary school performed their first performance here. While the prices don't lie either. Very unfortunate, I felt nauseous the rest of the day.

El restaurante es absolutamente impresionante, muy clásico y auténtico diseño del antiguo edificio de Amsterdam. El ambiente es y el servicio también es muy bueno, sin embargo la comida era promedio y se esperaba más. No obtuvo mucho sabor de la sopa de pescado aparte de la sal ni plato principal de pescado.

Prima eten maar wat een totale rigide dictatuur dat je het vastgestelde 4/5 gangen alleen per tafel kunt bestellen.. 👎

Wat is dit toch een fijn restaurant om voorafgaand aan het Concertgebouw te gaan eten. Altijd aardige bediening, prachtige met wit linnen gedekte tafels, subtiele verlichting, het gezellige geroezemoes en dat uitgesproken lekkere Franse sfeertje in ons Nederlandse hoofdstadje. Leuke wijnkaart. Heerlijk gegeten met mooie boerenpaté, Bawykovzalm met een gepocheerd ei en hollandaisesaus, Noordzee vissoep, Holsteiner ribeye en een confit de canard met zuurkool met eendenleversaus. Allemaal erg smakelijk. Frietjes en groenten kosten tegenwoordig net als overal extra. Zo ook een kaartje met daarop apéritief specials en ‘bites’ die je voorafgaand aan het diner extra kunt bestellen.

Traditional restaurant with limited menu, all tasty classics enjoyed by the locals. Good wines. The service is perfect.

Exceptional in all aspects but the price is high, very high. Although everything was fantastic, it doesn't justify those exorbitant prices. Still, if money is not a problem, it is a peaceful, elegant, and delicious place.

Nice Oud-Zuid atmosphere and top service

Made a private dinner reservation just a few days in advance, and everyone had a fantastic experience. At the last minute we communicated some dietary needs and it was no problem at all. Atmosphere, superior quality and only compliments from the company. Wines also great.

Hicimos un post - cena familiar de boda en el comedor privado y todo era perfecto, Laura nos cuidó proporcionando una atención profesional sin problemas, la comida, el vino y el ambiente eran todos maravillosos - recomiendo encarecidamente el lado del comedor privado para cualquier ocasión! Luego 2 días después mi esposo y yo regresamos para un almuerzo largo, pausado y absolutamente delicioso en el jardín, una vez más Laura nos cuidó, todo, desde el entorno hasta el servicio a la comida y el vino estaba en el lugar! Sin duda volveremos cuando estemos en Amsterdam ❤️

What a wonderful evening we just had. Have been coming here for years and it has always been great, but tonight was just great. The best table in the attractive garden, delicious food, but especially the team of host ladies and gentlemen who made this evening very special for us. Many thanks!

Expensive and pretentious, this once prestigious restaurant has fallen into the modern trap of commercialism. With two main courses ordered, only one small bowl of fries and salad was given to share between us, and if you can believe it, a large supplement charge was given (without warning!) for the extra fries. The setting was also disappointing, with the tables crammed so close together that you could not get up for the bathroom without knocking into a wine holder or your neighbour's table. This was also exacerbated by the constant banging coming from servers knocking into things as they tried to negotiate the narrow corridors between tables (not their fault!). All of this drama, and I haven't even gotten to the food yet, which was a very mediocre steak tartar. Not bad, not good, decisively boring. I am really disappointed after everything I have heard about the elegance of old Amsterdam - if this is what you are looking for, turn elsewhere.

Arrogant down-at-heel service A steak tartare with tiny portions of fries and salads. We were waiting for a portion for each person, but it was only 1 small portion for the two of us. We politely asked for more fries and salad and were eventually charged 15 euros on the bill. So never go again! What a “ball tent”!!!!!

Flawless and if the weather is good try the garden.

Great meal, Everything delicious, the tartar, the oysters really fresh and with the right champagne , the beef, the desert. The service was very attentive. We had a very very pleasant dinner.

The service was attentive, surpassing the standard in Amsterdam, though it did come across as brusque. The food, while palatable, wasn't particularly memorable, with the steak tartare being premade and most dishes overly salted. The one highlight of the evening was the impressive wine selection. There are certainly more memorable dining experiences in the area, but this restaurant may appeal to those looking for a "refined" old-money ambiance. It feels fancy but falls short in other aspects to truly make it worthwhile.

A very elegant and high-quality restaurant where the courtyard is highly recommended. The courtyard is covered with many plants and gives the impression of being somewhere far away from Amsterdam. The food is made delicious by the many taste sensations.

This was my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. Off the beaten path, locals-only brasserie with unbelievable food and a cozy atmosphere. We got ribeye steak, pomme frites, gnocchi, steak tartare, caviar and salads. Don’t miss out on this place.

Delicious food. Traditional French. No shared dining concept. Just good beautiful dishes. Generous portions. Also fish and vegetarian and a changing menu. Matching wines by the glass and vary daily. Close to concert hall. Make a reservation. Photo a bit yellow but that is due to the light.

The place is located on the famous street Van Baerlestraat. Easy access to shops and transport. You get a real Amsterdam feeling.

Perfect meal within the allotted time. We had indicated in advance that we had to be present at a concert at 8 p.m. Service, atmosphere, service and food were sublime and we will definitely enjoy it again at our leisure

We were a group of 3 and we had a really good experience with the food, wines and desserts. People who are managing the service are making sure that you're not missing anything and are very welcoming. On top of that, the restaurant is really beautiful. In the end we had a wonderful dinner.

Food was pretty decent but people that don’t come from old money be warned (like me) this is not the place for you! Off the bat other parties had their coats taken off and when it came time for me and my partner they didn’t even ask. Not that I wanted them to but I just kept noticing the difference in the way they treated us. They also told us they were out of a dish we really wanted but then we saw people who came in after us be served that dish. Then when we asked for the bill a white male customer started talking to the staff and it took like 10 min for us to get the bill so we had to run to catch the next tram. I think servers tried but I could tell we weren’t their usual clientele. It was uncomfy for me most of the time.

Brasserie à la Française in Amsterdam South. You feel like you are in Paris and you actually get classic French food at a more than reasonable price. And that 200 meters from Museumplein! On summer days (are they still there?) it is nice to relax in the backyard with large mirrors. So don't hesitate, go go!

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the catering industry in the Netherlands does not have a very good reputation. If you want to see and experience the other side of the catering industry in the Netherlands, then you should definitely come here. Welcoming, friendly and thoughtful service, a casual atmosphere and ultimately a delicious meal. Overall excellent and recommended

We knew of the restaurant for many years but never got around to dining here. We had a superb lunch experience recently. From the warm welcome to the professional and engaging service, the French cuisine inspired dishes, perfectly cooked … the wine selection, we loved it all and hope to back soon.

Wow. What a place. Visited for a lunch and had the most perfect experience. Beautiful place (terrace was closed but imagine in the summer this is spectacular). Seating perfect, with a lovely indoor setting. Service was friendly and professional but homely too! Menu was well thought with a good selection of French inspired dishes. Each course was expertly cooked and seasoned well with lovely textures and the wine by the glass recommendations were superb and well priced. This is a favourite of ours now in Amsterdam and we will be back. It does not open on Saturdays, which given how important that trade must be for eateries, shows how good this place is. Thank you.

It had a beautiful Christmas tree around Christmas time. The employees are very nice and helpful. Despite the fact that the restaurant doesn't have a lot of space (which is very charming), we were allowed to take our dog with us and had stated this when making the reservation and got a table at the edge, which was very pleasant for and with the dog. The food was great, we had the Christmas menu. The price is totally reasonable. If we ever go to Amsterdam again, we would love to come back!

My wife and I dined here and had a great experience. The food was delicious and the wine pairings were on point. The staff was excellent and Laura was very engaging and very knowledgeable about the wine selection. We enjoyed it so much we made reservations for a week later when we were coming back through Amsterdam.

Zeer fijne setting, gerechten klassiek maar perfect uitgevoerd. Service zoals je het nog weinig ziet in Amsterdam. Wijnkaart wordt geroemd en ik begrijp waarom, stuk voor stuk parels en ook waar voor je geld. Leuk dat ze ook veel mogelijkheden bieden voor uitstapjes buiten de kaart, en complimenten aan de bediening voor hun kennis en kunde.

Wij bezoeken al 10 tallen jaren met enige regelmaat de brasserie. Nooit zijn wij teleurgesteld. Vooral de spijs-wijn combinatie is al jaren voortreffelijk. Zegt wel iets over hun kennis van wijnen! Ook de bediening is altijd hartelijk. Chapeau!

Overrated. This is a very average place. Menu doesn't have much choice and the food is super average. The photos here show very nice dishes with octopus and black rice, duck confit, etc. But all they had in the menu was steak, tartare, chicken, etc. Nothing original and thus in my opinion quite expensive for what it is. Maybe I was just unlucky with the menu.

Really enjoyed my lunch here. Love the fact they have loads of wines by the glass and even serve half glasses if you prefer that. Greta steak tartare though I was a tad disappointed with the salad it came with, not as good as the ones you get in French bistros. Service top notch.
