It was Amsterdam summer and we had to eat at Van Dam. The welcome was fantastic; there wasn't room on the terrace right away, but as soon as a table became available, we were able to sit down. The wine wasn't quite cold enough, so we asked for ice cubes and to put the bottle back in the fridge for a while. This was arranged immediately, but the bottle was later exchanged for a new, perfectly cold bottle. Fantastic! I had a Caesar salad, which I eat everywhere. Sadly, I have to say it was the worst I've ever eaten; I've never had a worst one. I've never had chicken breast in my life, and it made the salad greasy, and the salad itself was literally swimming in dressing. Such a shame. Someone in our group had pasta cabonara, and it was very good! Fortunately, the dessert made up for it. The pecan caramel tart with vanilla ice cream was HEAVENLY!!! The most fantastic experience was definitely the staff; I hope they treat you with respect!!!!

I’ve been living in Amsterdam 8 years and finally made my way here….what took me so long? Great prices with many options (but not overwhelming) and very nice setting and neighborhood. Will become my go to restaurant.

Van Dam enjoys a meal at Van Dam

Unless you are friends with the staff or in a let's get drunk mood, this place is not for you. It is more of a party spot than a friendly family neighborhood restaurant.

Food is good, albeit a bit pricy, but that goes with the neighbourhood. It's a nice place, but it gets very busy, so my advice is to enjoy it at its best when it's less hectic on a midweek evening.

We had a wonderful dinner at Brasserie Van Dam in Amsterdam! Managed to book a table on the same day (Saturday) through their website without any issues—even though Google Maps showed no availability. We had a two-hour reservation, and although we arrived a bit early, they seated us right away. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel like regulars. The menu is diverse, with good vegetarian options, and everything was served quickly and tasted delicious. We ordered the short ribs, hamburger, and carbonara—all generous portions and very flavorful. The whole atmosphere was cozy and casual, perfect if you want to escape the tourist areas and feel more like a local. It’s just a short ride on tram #2 from Central Station. Highly recommend!

Comimos aquí dos veces para cenar durante nuestra semana en Ámsterdam. En ambas ocasiones, la comida, el servicio (¡los camareros fueron geniales!) y el ambiente del lugar fueron excelentes. ¡La ensalada de carne tailandesa estaba deliciosa! El tartar de salmón estaba excelente!

O hambúrguer estava bastante picante devia ser mencionado no menu. A peça de carne estava boa mas pelo preço esperávamos um pouco melhor.

It was 10:30 and there were a lot of people in the restaurant. I asked the waitress to sit my friend and me down to have a drink. She said we are closing while the drinks are still coming out for the other guests. I think she did this for a racist reason because we are not Dutch. I hate this thing. I do not recommend it. If you are not Dutch, they will refuse to seat you.

Generally we have always enjoyed this place but it was such a let down when we went in this Saturday (21 June). The waitress serving us had a terrible attitude and made us feel completely unwanted there. Overpriced, burnt bitterballen, cold croquettes, scrambled-eggs served saying they were fried-eggs. Sad but no more van dam brasserie for us from now on :(

This is my third time visiting the city and coming to eat here. It's great.

Waited an hour for a burger. It came raw. Edit: Potential food poisoning Edit: Tried calling the restaurant, they dropped my call twice before telling me to email them with photos. The email will probably get ignored. I normally would ignore this and move on but I see that another person got food poisoning a week ago, and my wife ate some of her burger before seeing that it was raw. I would encourage anyone who experiences a similar situation to report the incident to the NVWA, not just to the restaurant (you will be ignored). Especially if you're a tourist. Edit: They returned the email and admitted that the burgers are raw but refuse to issue a refund, presumably because we already paid and left. Beware. Edit: They refuse to refund/ reverse the transaction unless you provide them with all of your banking information (not the last 4 digits & time of transaction).

Had a lovely lunch at Brasserie Van Dam! I had a hamburger and we also ordered fries. It was a lot and very tasty. Luckily we had made a reservation because it was very busy.

What a great meal we had again, value for money. We gladly drive 1.25 hours for it.

I ate at this cafe today. I got poisoned after lunch at this cafe. I feel terrible, if you've ever been poisoned by food, then you understand that now everything comes out of me in endless nausea and all other ways!

Had dinner with my girlfriend here yesterday. Tuna pizza and a scrambled salmon with fries on the side. The tuna pizza was so small absurd for 18.50 € fries for 6.50 you could count the fries! The atmosphere was strange it is a bit the more famous you are the cooler you are treated. Unfortunately no 2nd time for me

A great place to dine with friends . LOOKING FOR A wonderful brasserie in cool, quite, very beautiful neighbourhood??? HERE IT IS! We reserved our table beforehand and luckily 😉 had the best place in the house, outside, looking at the street life and beautiful boutiques and people all around. Dinner was fantastic. So delicious 😋 😍 we will definitely be coming back!!! Our Dutch friends 🧡 also loved the place. A first for all of us, definitely not the last time... thanks for the wonderful service. You guys and girls were great! Very average… making a club sandwich is relatively easy. Making a bad one is difficult.

Despite the fact that we had not reserved, a table was made for us. We had a super tasty lunch during our 'day in Amsterdam' at Van Dam. The food tasted good and there was more than enough. We had a kind of 12-o'clock snack (Nicolette's favorite) A taste sensation for which we would like to return to our capital. Because we got a bit too much, our table for 4 people was almost too small 😅. The only disadvantage of this place is that there is only 1 toilet available for guests. (Those drinks have to come out again).

This is a very Dutch place, meaning you can hear and speak Dutch here which is not a given in Amsterdam. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is attentive (though we were invitees shifts and understandably little things were out of sync like menus and table setting). The food! That’s a highlight. High quality menu, absolutely everything is delicious and it is interesting without being too modern - no small plates here, just normal portions and familiar but elevated taste. I had evening’s special lobster pasta and it was to die for. The Dubai chocolate pie is rich and good to share. Will definitely be back.

A delightful dining experience We had a lovely meal at Brasserie Van Dam – the food was delicious, the service was warm and attentive, and the ambience was just perfect for a relaxed evening out.

Asked if I could sit outside, it was not possible, only with 4+ people (according to Robin?), the two of us sat inside and after 15 minutes still no one came to us, so we left. Too bad, but this is not a place for us.

Heel lekker gegeten, gezellige buurt , mooi weer en vriendelijk personeel. Klein minpuntje was dat de tafel een beetje vuil was en plakte maar daar doen we niet moeilijk over, al de rest was top👏🏼

What a wonderful first experience at brasserie van Dam! Had dinner here for the first time yesterday. We were a bit early, that was no problem. We were kindly received and could take a seat inside or outside. The food was of excellent quality, delicious tender meat (rib eye and steak de paris) and the Dubai pistachio tart...Yum🤤🤤 In addition to the food, the service also really deserves a shoutout. Friendly, sincere and attentive, which is rare these days. That gives something extra to the experience of the evening. We enjoyed it, thank you! In short, recommended! First time ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review! We will definitely come back when we visit Amsterdam!

Brasserie Van Dam wasn't too bad for me, the food was good, the atmosphere was not too bad in Amsterdam South. Excellent and very friendly Brabant young hostess, the only downside was another young waitress who didn't really seem to be into it

They didn't let me book online because there were only two of us. They sat us at the bar. The people at the entrance are terribly unfriendly. Not recommended.

The food was very tasty. We just had to wait a long time until someone from the service came to take our order. That was a minor point. Furthermore, an excellent dining opportunity.

Cozy place with burgers, beer and local flavor Brasserie Van Dam is exactly the place where locals go, not crowds of tourists. The authentic atmosphere of Amsterdam reigns here without pathos and tourist extra charges. Be sure to try their juicy burgers - marbled patty, crispy bacon, perfect cheese and fresh baguette. And accompanied by chilled draft beer, served in perfect condition. Add to this the friendly service, reasonable prices and pleasant crowd - including beautiful girls who often gather here in the evening. A great place to spend time in good company! Advice: come early or book a table - the locals know a lot about good places, so it can get crowded in the evening. 🔥 A true local favorite!

Gezellig ingerichte brasserie; er is een groot verwarmd terras aanwezig. Overzichtelijke menukaart met de overwegend bekende gerechten. Alles vers en smaakvol: de borden zijn keurig opgemaakt. Zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel; prima prijskwaliteit verhouding.

El nombre "Van Dam" es bien conocido en Amsterdam por sus carniceros y su hija Nicole abrió esta linda brasserie como una adición a eso. La ubicación es muy agradable, en una zona no turística de Amsterdam, rodeado de pequeñas boutiques y mansiones señoriales. El servicio es muy amable. Incluso si extrañaras a Nicole (una de las celebridades holandesas más tiernas en este momento, a diferencia de ella sobre el mejor esposo), el personal es casi pequeños clones de ella. La comida es básica pero de buena calidad. El ambiente es animado, acogedor y divertido.

Been several times. It is a restaurant that has a reputation to uphold but certainly lives up to it. The food is of high quality and tastes great. The service is as you would expect and the atmosphere is very good. Especially nice to go later in the evening so that you can stay at the table until closing time.

Heerlijke lunch. Shared plate voor 2 personen met steak tartaar, buratta, zalm miso echt een aanrader. Bediening super vriendelijk, personeel ziet je echt, ze zijn snel en vriendelijk. Gezellige plek om te zitten.

Very nice place and my dish (risotto with sea fruit) and the melanzana were very well prepared and generously topped. The food came a bit quickly, although that is usually a compliment... After dinner in the evening after an appointment elsewhere, we came back for a drink. Staff scores 10-10! What thoughtful and sweet people, we will definitely come back.

Tuve un almuerzo maravilloso aquí con mi esposa. El personal era increíblemente amable — atento sin rondar — y dio grandes recomendaciones. La carta de vinos está bien curada y a un precio razonable. Tomé el filete de queso Philly, y fue excepcional. El filete era perfectamente raro, tal como me gusta. Mi esposa disfrutó de los ravioles de trufa, aunque la porción podría ser un poco más grande para el almuerzo (perfecto como aperitivo para la cena). El postre era una simple pero increíble galleta de chocolate caliente del famoso “Koekemannetje” - puro confort. Estuve aquí hace un par de años para cenar con un grupo grande y tuve una gran experiencia entonces también. Sin duda un lugar al que seguiré volviendo!

Cozy cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff and delicious food. I went with the idea that it was super special because of the hype surrounding it. It wasn't super special and luckily that's fine. Will definitely come back when we are in the area.

Gisteren wezen dineren met mijn gezin. Bij binnenkomst konden we een klein rond tafeltje kiezen die allemaal erg krap op de andere tafeltjes stonden. De tafel zelf stond behoorlijk vol waardoor we weinig ruimte hadden op de tafel voor glazen en borden. We hebben over de hele avond 1 drankje gehad omdat er na binnenkomst niet weer gevraagd is of we nog wat te drinken wouden. Vooraf bij ons glaasje wijn hadden wij een broodbordje.. daarna kwam het voorgerecht en werd het lege broodplankje op een te krappe tafel niet afgeruimd. Voorgerecht was overigens prima in verhouding met de prijs. Toen het voorgerecht op was kwamen ze de tafel afruimen en het lege broodbordje bleef weer staan. Bij het hoofdgerecht hadden wij ook een gerecht met sliptong. Hierbij geen leeg bordje gekregen voor de graadjes van de vis, dus hebben we dat op het lege broodbordje gelegd. Omdat dit broodbordje erg klein was en ruimte gebrek op de tafel, staken de graadjes over het bordje heen en zo ook een deel daarvan op je dinerbord kwam. Hoofdgerecht in verhouding met prijs klopte maar erg karig.. de tournedo had enkel een cherrytomaatje op het bord en de tournedo was niet warm. Dessert hebben we niet genomen. We hebben betaald en daarna naar een bar gegaan om iets te drinken, want we hadden een erge dorst gekregen.

Although I received a friendly welcome, the person who helped us with the order and checkout was not very hospitable. We placed our order, and one person got her food, but then we had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes for my sister's plate of food. Waiting in itself is not a problem, but normally the plates are served at the same time, especially if you are having a nice lunch together. While ordering, I asked if honey could be put on the sandwich, to which we received a blunt answer: “There is honey on the table.” I don't think you come to a restaurant to prepare your own food, right? Well, we left that too. When it was time to pay, the same person came with the ATM and again was quite curt. What was a shame: everyone before and after us first received a receipt with mints, but not us. They also didn't wish us a nice day when we left, which seemed strange. Of course, this doesn't exactly motivate me to tip someone who is so blunt. The rest of the staff was very friendly, which makes it even more unfortunate that this one person made the experience less pleasant. By the way, we were friendly to everyone all the time, so why we were treated that way by that one person is a mystery to us. A delicious meal! 😊

The food was really delicious, the tournedos and entrecote were delicious and, despite the crowds, it was served surprisingly quickly. Unfortunately, the service was not quite what I expected. It was a bit impersonal and sometimes difficult to get the attention of the staff. Despite that, the overall experience was positive and I would definitely come back for the tasty food :)

Quite a small tent and therefore an obstacle course to get to your table. The atmosphere is nice but the chairs are rotten. The food was fast and good; tasty tomato soup and good hamburger. Nice staff, but clearing took a long time.

The sandwich was tasty in the winter paradise, but you have to be willing to do something for it. Only 4 people in front of us, 1 of whom walked away very angry because there was something wrong with the food. Waited more than half an hour. A blonde lady was very smooth. We were happy that she joined us. Two other customers waiting for their food had forgotten them and then even skipped them again. The service did not win the beauty prize.

I have been coming to Brasserie van Dam for years, both as a regular customer who sometimes makes a reservation and as someone who spontaneously drops in. I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service here. But last Saturday I had a particularly unpleasant experience that, quite frankly, left me disappointed. Upon arrival we were turned away in an incredibly rude manner by a male employee. Understandably it can be busy and there may not be room, but the tone and the way we were treated were really below par. It felt like we were not taken seriously and were unwanted, instead of valued guests. This was not necessary at all, a little respect and kindness would have been appropriate. Unlike here, we were welcomed with open arms and friendly service at Brasserie Margaux, despite the fact that it was also busy there. The difference in service is clearly noticeable. It's a shame it has to turn out this way. Maybe I'll try again in the future, but for now my confidence is pretty shaken.

Qué hermoso restaurante cuando pasas por delante. Encantadora zona de patio en la parte delantera con grandes ventanales para contemplar el interior. Es una lástima que el resto de los servicios de este establecimiento no coincidan con el aspecto del restaurante. Camareros muy arrogantes en la puerta principal. Es como si fueras un inconveniente para ellos sentarte. Un movimiento de la mano y se le dice que se siente en cualquier lugar que desee dentro. Nada de acompañarte a una mesa. Sacando una silla. No. El servicio interior era igualmente pobre. Cuatro camareros y parecían más interesados en hablar entre ellos o aparecer ocupados caminando por las mesas sin reconocerte cuando obviamente estás listo para ordenar. Este lugar está lleno de personas pretenciosas que obviamente aman el lugar por la experiencia de simplemente traer lo visto allí. Aunque dicho esto se encuentra en una zona muy agradable y acomodada. Así que tal vez sean solo los que viven cerca. No pueden decidir si la comida es europea, francesa, holandesa, italiana y se muestra en el menú. Muy caro por la calidad y en particular el tamaño de las porciones. Evita pedir algo italiano ya que el chef no puede cocinar espaguetis. Eso siempre es una preocupación. Pero cuando estoy en Amsterdam, ¿qué hago pidiendo comida italiana? A menos que solo vengas a tomar una copa y un aperitivo, hay muchos mejores restaurantes en Amsterdam. ¿Tal vez no en Vondelpark?

What a cozy brasserie. Centrally located in the most beautiful part of Amsterdam. We had a great lunch again!

I visited the cafe earlier today and stayed there for 20 min and the staff were very rude seeing us and not bringing menus or asking us what would we like to have. Meanwhile when a Dutch couple walked in they immediately asked them where do they want to sit and walked them to a table If your restaurant is serving only “certain” ppl then be bold and say it out loud. Very disrespectful service, and disgusting behavior.

Naar jaarlijkse traditie gaan we hier tijdens ons weekend lunchen. Hier geniet je van een leuke sfeer in een hippe buurt, steeds zeer vriendelijke bediening en prijs/kwaliteit correcte prijzen. Een aanrader, maar wel best reserveren!

One of the most neo-modern Amsterdam places you can visit. Don't expect extreme hospitality, but expect a genuine sense of Amsterdam.
