Had a delicious meal and excellent, friendly service.

Truly a peculiar visit, though unfortunately not in a positive sense. The staff struck me as extraordinarily haughty. As far as we are concerned, this is a remarkable, almost comical attitude for people whose duties essentially consist of receiving guests, serving food, and providing service. Furthermore, we got the impression that the wait staff seemed to be making fun of one another. It is a shame that we had this experience with the staff representing Ms. Van Dam's establishment. As a result, the food was hardly relevant to us. After all, good hospitality begins long before a plate is placed on the table. Fortunately, Zuid has many alternatives. Never again!

Last week we were at Van Dam again and what a lovely place it is! Friendly and attentive staff, and even when it is busier, the focus remains on the customer. We had a delicious meal. We will be back soon!

Had reservations for 10 inside. When we arrive there was a private party going on in half of restaurant that has music so loud you couldn’t hear the person next to you. It was RIDICULOUS and oblivious to rest of patrons. Manager comped a drink. Whoopy. After a long hour he seated us outside. Food was very good, but the night had already been lost. I would NOT recommend this place.

Pleasant outdoor terrace, and while the owner can't do anything about the following, the people sitting there when we were there (Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm) really wanted to hear themselves talk. And they did 😳 Very annoying for the other guests. It turned out they were acquaintances of the waitress. We left partly because of this.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous customer experiences I’ve ever had. I ordered an Americano and specifically asked if they could add a little extra water because I don’t like my coffee too bitter. Of course, they didn’t add any extra water. I didn’t make a big deal out of it and simply asked the waiter to bring me a little hot water separately. Just regular hot water. Not tea. Not mineral water. Not some fancy specialty drink. Just hot water that I wanted to add to the coffee I had already ordered. They brought it to me. And then I saw the bill. €2.95!!!!!!! for a glass of hot water. Seriously, this is a whole new level of rock bottom, Amsterdam… And to make the whole experience even better, the service and the food were mediocre at best. Honestly, I think Google needs to introduce negative stars, because this place has earned them.

I didn't like it. I didn't feel welcome at all. The wait staff barely came to the table, and the main course arrived at the same time as the main course, and the blame was placed on us. We should have pointed this out.... Additionally, we were not offered the mussels that were off the menu; well, then you wouldn't know.

It is a real shame when you put Holtkamp shrimp croquettes on the menu, then serve a completely different brand, and don't mention it beforehand. There are indeed much better options in the area.

Very nice place. Food was delicious. Drinks were great. Service a little slow but it’s always very busy during summer so it’s understandable.

It was the month of the Mussel Menu, so a reason for a visit. Very friendly and knowledgeable service. And when they heard that it was my daughter's birthday, it was celebrated in a super fun way (without having to ask); nice! We will definitely be back.

Breakfast was excellent from start to finish. Our meals were flavorful, beautifully presented, and exceeded expectations. The service made the experience even better — our server was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We would definitely return and highly recommend this spot for breakfast.

We reserved a table in advance on Sunday evening. Upon arrival, we were asked if we wanted to sit outside; we were put on a list and had to wait inside. People arriving after us were fetched first to take a seat outside. After asking three times if we could sit outside, it turned out that we were not on 'the list' after all. It was clear that certain staff members found our repeated question annoying. Eventually, after 45 minutes, we were able to take a seat outside. Inside, we had already had the ham with burrata (which was very tasty!) and an aperitif as a starter. Once outside, the waitress felt it necessary to deliberately spill on the table and my clothes while pouring the wine. So, we will never be coming back here. Because in addition to this unprofessional service, there was also disruptive behavior from others. A group was given a seat on the terrace ahead of us, consumed only a few drinks, was noisy, and caused a disturbance with cigarettes which they then also left on the ground. The food was good, so compliments to the chef, but there are surely more pleasant places in Amsterdam.

Ate here on Sunday. The food is way below par. The bread roll beforehand was very old and hard. The starter was reasonable, but the main courses were very bad. The service was friendly and nice. The atmosphere was good too, but the chairs were worthless. What a disappointment.

Van Dam is a beautiful, spacious establishment with a pleasant terrace on a lively street. The menu is extensive and offers plenty of choice, which is nice if you like variety. The food is fine and tasty, but not particularly special. The prices are good and proportionate to what you get. The staff is friendly and ensures a pleasant experience. All in all, a solid spot for an informal lunch or dinner.

Arrogant staff. We asked for a table (several empty tables) and she refused to give it to us because they were reserved for dinner. We pointed out that it was 3 o'clock and we would definitely be gone by 5 o'clock at the latest. She got angry and indicated that she did not owe us any explanation. This is the last time I will come here. She was nice to other staff, though. I got the feeling that she doesn't want women wearing headscarves there; in any case, we won't be coming here again.

So if you're looking for a unique dining experience with high-quality food and exceptionally friendly service, then visit Van Dam! Wow, just wow! We were allowed to eat at the bar because it was so crowded (we hadn't made a reservation on a Saturday night, our own fault, I'd say, but they really do make everything possible in Amsterdam; no matter where we were, they always kindly found an alternative, made room for us, or waited a short while). Our last evening at Van Dam was therefore the perfect grand finale.

Both the Caesar and Niçoise salads were a letdown. There was hardly any dressing, the potatoes were soggy, and the tuna was underwhelming.

I had high expectations, but I should have read the reviews beforehand. The food was very mediocre. The men had ordered a sort of steak de Paris. There was no garnish to be found on the plate and the sauce was tasteless. I had ordered fish. There was barely any 'meat' on the fish and the fish was so small that we left the Brasserie on an empty stomach. For the price you pay, you should at least expect a bowl of fries or raw vegetables to be placed on the table! You have to order truffle fries separately. A tiny little plate for 'only' 9 euros!! Shame on you. Additionally, they have far too many tables for a space that is too small. It is really about making quick money here rather than delivering quality.

For a glass of wine and a snack. Assigned a table in an almost empty place. A woman was sitting there loudly on the phone talking about suicide and psychiatrists. Waiters came over, wanted to stop with us, but were summoned to the other table and started a lengthy conversation. Got up and left. They still have a lot to learn here about hospitality and decency.

Popped in here last week after hearing such great stories. Had a coffee with Dubai pistachio cake. They make it themselves. Sooooo delicious. Highly recommended. And the atmosphere is incredibly cozy.

The boy I paid didn't think it necessary to say thank you for the 10% tip I gave. When I walked off the terrace afterwards and said goodbye, there was no response either. Arrogant staff in my experience, but according to other reviews, this happens often. A complete jerk.

I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this restaurant. I ordered an avocado toast with salmon, and this was the only thing I ate that day. By the evening, I developed severe food poisoning. It has now been three days, and I am still recovering from strong intoxication symptoms. My partner ordered the pulled chicken, which looked and smelled very bad. He refused to eat it, which likely prevented him from getting sick as well. This raises serious concerns about the quality and freshness of the food served here. Food safety should be a top priority, and unfortunately, this was clearly not the case. I cannot recommend this place. If you value your health, I strongly advise avoiding this restaurant

We arrived at this restaurant to sit on the terrace and have a drink. Upon arrival, we politely asked if it was okay to just have drinks, and that was no problem. We were given a menu and took a seat. After about 10 minutes of waiting — even though it wasn’t busy at the time— no one had come to take our order. We tried several times to make eye contact with the staff to show we were ready to order, but this was repeatedly ignored. The staff kept walking past us without helping. We felt completely ignored and unwelcome, which led us to decide to go somewhere else. Not a pleasant experience.

A pleasant brasserie near Museumplein, in Amsterdam's Oud Zuid district. The service was quick, the lunch was pleasant, as was the ambiance.

We had lunch here on Saturday. In my opinion, there are far too many tables; there was about 35 cm between our table and the table next to us. I ordered two sandwiches, which were on the table within 5 minutes. I had a Filet Americain sandwich (with toppings on both sides) for €16.20. The plate looked neat. A baguette was topped on both sides as requested, along with onions, capers, and a boiled and peeled egg. Nothing wrong with that, you might say. However, I later noticed that the bill had been charged €1.50 for the egg I didn't order and wasn't asked for. It's not about the €1.50, but this is ridiculous. The bill was €60.10 (including egg), and we were out again after 33 minutes. Not the experience we expected.

On February 21st, my husband and I went here for lunch. We live nearby and it's always busy, so our expectations were high. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. It felt like a pre-made food factory. Service and Speed: It took a very long time for our drinks to be served. Surprisingly, the food arrived almost immediately after ordering—even faster than the drinks. This doesn't give the feeling of being freshly prepared. The Food: • Steak tartare (large): bland and arrived within 60 seconds of ordering. • Warm apple pie with ice cream and whipped cream: The taste was a bit sour. • Pecan caramel tart with vanilla ice cream: This was delicious. Conclusion: If you're looking for a tasty, high-quality lunch, we don't recommend this place. The value for money is poor. Furthermore, the staff was completely disengaged; they didn't even ask if everything was to your liking. A disappointing experience.

Great brasserie in a fancy neighborhood of Amsterdam! van Dam has a good selection of dishes where everyone can find something they like. Do book before going especially during the weekend and ask for a table on the sides of the room as in the middle it can be very loud and busy.

Stopped by for a beer and really enjoyed the overall vibe. The tap selection was small (1 pilsner, 1 IPA, 1 witbier, and 1 blond), but the atmosphere was enjoyable. Hence made it a pleasant stop, and I’d definitely come back to try the food another time!

We came here for dinner and had a phenomenal meal. For drinks, we each ordered a sgroppino to start and later got an aperol spritz. We then ordered the truffle burger, truffle fries, and truffle ravioli. Everything was excellent, and the service was lovely. Definitely a great place for a nice dinner!

I had lunch at Brasserie van Dam and the experience was fairly average. The atmosphere is pleasant and the location is nice, which makes it a comfortable place for a midday break. The food was okay but lacked something special in terms of flavor and presentation. Service was polite, though not particularly memorable. Overall, it’s an acceptable option for lunch, but there are better choices in the area.

We have been coming to Amsterdam as a tradition for 13 years and always drink 2 cups of Cappuccino at Brasserie Van Dam on Saturday mornings.

Nice restaurant with a good range of dutch style dishes. Steaks, salads and a few other dutch favourites. Nice atmosphere.

It's fun to visit once, but it's incredibly busy, and every inch is used. The staff is very friendly, and the food is good but nothing special.

When visiting Amsterdam, we don't miss Van Dam. The food is truly excellent and flavorful. The shared platter (starter) is amazing, the quality of their meat is high, and after extensive research, I can report that Van Dam serves the best sgroppino in the Netherlands! The cozy, sometimes even festive atmosphere makes it perfect. For us, it's already a complete night out on Cornelis Schuytstraat. See you next time, Team Van Dam!

And the food was high-quality, delicious! Very affordable, especially by Amsterdam standards. And a really nice waiter with some great jokes. If we're ever in Amsterdam again, we'll definitely eat here again!

You'd think: after a few awful days, a person treats themselves. Finally, a moment of slog, not drudgery, but enjoyment. Your place seemed like the place to be: the showpiece of Amsterdam's elite, where sandwiches and service would be just as refined as the suits and snobberies who walk around. Wrong. My first interaction with your staff felt more like a public humiliation. I'd barely uttered the word "lady" when I was already snapped back: "I'll be with you in a minute," with their back turned. There I was. A customer, reduced to a wet mop, in the middle of the room. No respect, only embarrassing looks. Then the pastrami!! You wouldn't expect a sandwich from a snack bar. I got soggy bits between the bread, so uninspired that even the beef sausage dried up into cork discs. No taste, no quality, no love. Only the bill was right. €25!! For 2 tasteless sandwiches. The name Van Damme raises expectations. I expected at least a kick in the taste buds. What I got felt more like Jean-Claude Van Damme's infamous splits!! Painful, awkward, and above all, a drain on my wallet. I'm not angry, I'm disappointed. Being angry would still mean there was something to lose.
