Brasserie Van Dam in Museumkwartier

We came here for dinner and had a phenomenal meal. For drinks, we each ordered a sgroppino to start and later got an aperol spritz. We then ordered the truffle burger, truffle fries, and truffle ravioli. Everything was excellent, and the service was lovely. Definitely a great place for a nice dinner!

I had lunch at Brasserie van Dam and the experience was fairly average. The atmosphere is pleasant and the location is nice, which makes it a comfortable place for a midday break. The food was okay but lacked something special in terms of flavor and presentation. Service was polite, though not particularly memorable. Overall, it’s an acceptable option for lunch, but there are better choices in the area.

We have been coming to Amsterdam as a tradition for 13 years and always drink 2 cups of Cappuccino at Brasserie Van Dam on Saturday mornings.

Nice restaurant with a good range of dutch style dishes. Steaks, salads and a few other dutch favourites. Nice atmosphere.

It's fun to visit once, but it's incredibly busy, and every inch is used. The staff is very friendly, and the food is good but nothing special.

It was too crowded, there was a queue...next time I'll make a reservation...what I saw was great...so that's why...

The cocktails and champagne were excellent; my compliments to the bartender. I especially want to emphasize the excellent work of the friendly and attentive staff, who know the menu well and quickly and accurately meet all the guests' requests, all while engaging in lively conversation. When visiting Amsterdam, we don't miss Van Dam. The food is truly excellent and flavorful. The shared platter (starter) is amazing, the quality of their meat is high, and after extensive research, I can report that Van Dam serves the best sgroppino in the Netherlands! The cozy, sometimes even festive atmosphere makes it perfect. For us, it's already a complete night out on Cornelis Schuytstraat. See you next time, Team Van Dam!

Simply fantastic!! An extensive menu with super tasty dishes, the short rib was especially delicious. The speed with which they take and serve their food deserves a special compliment; you rarely see that anymore in the Netherlands.

Today we went for dinner with a group of four, unexpectedly and luckily we still got a spot. We were a bit in a hurry, and the food was on the table within 10 minutes. And the food was high-quality, delicious! Very affordable, especially by Amsterdam standards. And a really nice waiter with some great jokes. If we're ever in Amsterdam again, we'll definitely eat here again!

You'd think: after a few awful days, a person treats themselves. Finally, a moment of slog, not drudgery, but enjoyment. Your place seemed like the place to be: the showpiece of Amsterdam's elite, where sandwiches and service would be just as refined as the suits and snobberies who walk around. Wrong. My first interaction with your staff felt more like a public humiliation. I'd barely uttered the word "lady" when I was already snapped back: "I'll be with you in a minute," with their back turned. There I was. A customer, reduced to a wet mop, in the middle of the room. No respect, only embarrassing looks. Then the pastrami!! You wouldn't expect a sandwich from a snack bar. I got soggy bits between the bread, so uninspired that even the beef sausage dried up into cork discs. No taste, no quality, no love. Only the bill was right. €25!! For 2 tasteless sandwiches. The name Van Damme raises expectations. I expected at least a kick in the taste buds. What I got felt more like Jean-Claude Van Damme's infamous splits!! Painful, awkward, and above all, a drain on my wallet. I'm not angry, I'm disappointed. Being angry would still mean there was something to lose. The only thing to note here is that even renowned names apparently aren't immune to mediocrity. Sincerely (yes, kind, because someone has to be), iGGy

What a little gem , my friend says says it was the best caesar salad she's ever had, my burger was pretty good too. The highlight for me was the dessert Eton Mess served in large wine glass!! Would definitely feed 2 even 3 people!!!

We've had a couple of lunches and a dinner here. Food has always been great, staff has been great and friendly. My friends said that these were the best oysters they've had. My wife recommends the honey glazed chicken.

We tried this restaurant for lunch, which included toasted sandwiches, a chicken sandwich, and a chicken salad. Everything was delicious and high-quality. The atmosphere and service were excellent.

The food is nice! We had the Lunch Platter for two and it was a nice combination of everything they have to offer. The meat is tasty and the vegetables are refreshing. This place feels understaffed during lunchtime because we had to wait for too long just to get our bill.

What a disappointment this place is. We had a reservation and had to wait inside before being seated outside. The interior clearly needs a makeover. The sofa is sagging, the tables and chairs are worn, and it's not clean. A meager 6 out of 10. The meat quality was good, but the portions were small and modest. For the prices, you'd expect more. Their own rosé is no better than an average house wine. The staff is friendly, and there's plenty of staff outside to serve you quickly. In terms of atmosphere, especially inside, there are nicer places in Amsterdam. All in all, it was just adequate; unfortunately, I expected more from this place.

Never get the apple pie. The crust is undercooked and the cores are broken, and it's only a small piece. The Dubai was excellent, but unfortunately, I didn't choose it.

Got a schnitzel in NY style which I guess means a dry (but crispy) piece of veal meat without potatoes as a side (had to add fires) and no sauce. Had the meat been good by itself it probably would had been fine but with a dry schnitzel and no sauce it was a deal breaker. Loud music was playing, which I don't quite get as this seems like a dinner place, not a party bar.

Delicious food, generous portions, and reasonably priced. The service is very attentive and friendly. The terrace is very pleasant. They don't book you directly, but you can wait or start at an inside table and then move you to an outside table when one becomes available.

It was Amsterdam summer and we had to eat at Van Dam. The welcome was fantastic; there wasn't room on the terrace right away, but as soon as a table became available, we were able to sit down. The wine wasn't quite cold enough, so we asked for ice cubes and to put the bottle back in the fridge for a while. This was arranged immediately, but the bottle was later exchanged for a new, perfectly cold bottle. Fantastic! I had a Caesar salad, which I eat everywhere. Sadly, I have to say it was the worst I've ever eaten; I've never had a worst one. I've never had chicken breast in my life, and it made the salad greasy, and the salad itself was literally swimming in dressing. Such a shame. Someone in our group had pasta cabonara, and it was very good! Fortunately, the dessert made up for it. The pecan caramel tart with vanilla ice cream was HEAVENLY!!! The most fantastic experience was definitely the staff; I hope they treat you with respect!!!!

I’ve been living in Amsterdam 8 years and finally made my way here….what took me so long? Great prices with many options (but not overwhelming) and very nice setting and neighborhood. Will become my go to restaurant.

Unless you are friends with the staff or in a let's get drunk mood, this place is not for you. It is more of a party spot than a friendly family neighborhood restaurant.

Van Dam enjoys a meal at Van Dam

Food is good, albeit a bit pricy, but that goes with the neighbourhood. It's a nice place, but it gets very busy, so my advice is to enjoy it at its best when it's less hectic on a midweek evening.

We had a wonderful dinner at Brasserie Van Dam in Amsterdam! Managed to book a table on the same day (Saturday) through their website without any issues—even though Google Maps showed no availability. We had a two-hour reservation, and although we arrived a bit early, they seated us right away. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel like regulars. The menu is diverse, with good vegetarian options, and everything was served quickly and tasted delicious. We ordered the short ribs, hamburger, and carbonara—all generous portions and very flavorful. The whole atmosphere was cozy and casual, perfect if you want to escape the tourist areas and feel more like a local. It’s just a short ride on tram #2 from Central Station. Highly recommend!

Comimos aquí dos veces para cenar durante nuestra semana en Ámsterdam. En ambas ocasiones, la comida, el servicio (¡los camareros fueron geniales!) y el ambiente del lugar fueron excelentes. ¡La ensalada de carne tailandesa estaba deliciosa! El tartar de salmón estaba excelente!

O hambúrguer estava bastante picante devia ser mencionado no menu. A peça de carne estava boa mas pelo preço esperávamos um pouco melhor.

It was 10:30 and there were a lot of people in the restaurant. I asked the waitress to sit my friend and me down to have a drink. She said we are closing while the drinks are still coming out for the other guests. I think she did this for a racist reason because we are not Dutch. I hate this thing. I do not recommend it. If you are not Dutch, they will refuse to seat you.

Generally we have always enjoyed this place but it was such a let down when we went in this Saturday (21 June). The waitress serving us had a terrible attitude and made us feel completely unwanted there. Overpriced, burnt bitterballen, cold croquettes, scrambled-eggs served saying they were fried-eggs. Sad but no more van dam brasserie for us from now on :(

Waited an hour for a burger. It came raw. Edit: Potential food poisoning Edit: Tried calling the restaurant, they dropped my call twice before telling me to email them with photos. The email will probably get ignored. I normally would ignore this and move on but I see that another person got food poisoning a week ago, and my wife ate some of her burger before seeing that it was raw. I would encourage anyone who experiences a similar situation to report the incident to the NVWA, not just to the restaurant (you will be ignored). Especially if you're a tourist. Edit: They returned the email and admitted that the burgers are raw but refuse to issue a refund, presumably because we already paid and left. Beware. Edit: They refuse to refund/ reverse the transaction unless you provide them with all of your banking information (not the last 4 digits & time of transaction).

Had a lovely lunch at Brasserie Van Dam! I had a hamburger and we also ordered fries. It was a lot and very tasty. Luckily we had made a reservation because it was very busy.

What a great meal we had again, value for money. We gladly drive 1.25 hours for it.

Had dinner with my girlfriend here yesterday. Tuna pizza and a scrambled salmon with fries on the side. The tuna pizza was so small absurd for 18.50 € fries for 6.50 you could count the fries! The atmosphere was strange it is a bit the more famous you are the cooler you are treated. Unfortunately no 2nd time for me

A great place to dine with friends . LOOKING FOR A wonderful brasserie in cool, quite, very beautiful neighbourhood??? HERE IT IS! We reserved our table beforehand and luckily 😉 had the best place in the house, outside, looking at the street life and beautiful boutiques and people all around. Dinner was fantastic. So delicious 😋 😍 we will definitely be coming back!!! Our Dutch friends 🧡 also loved the place. A first for all of us, definitely not the last time... thanks for the wonderful service. Despite the fact that we had not reserved, a table was made for us. We had a super tasty lunch during our 'day in Amsterdam' at Van Dam. The food tasted good and there was more than enough. We had a kind of 12-o'clock snack (Nicolette's favorite) A taste sensation for which we would like to return to our capital. Because we got a bit too much, our table for 4 people was almost too small 😅. The only disadvantage of this place is that there is only 1 toilet available for guests. (Those drinks have to come out again).

Very average… making a club sandwich is relatively easy. Making a bad one is difficult.

This is a very Dutch place, meaning you can hear and speak Dutch here which is not a given in Amsterdam. The atmosphere is lovely, the service is attentive (though we were invitees shifts and understandably little things were out of sync like menus and table setting). The food! That’s a highlight. High quality menu, absolutely everything is delicious and it is interesting without being too modern - no small plates here, just normal portions and familiar but elevated taste. I had evening’s special lobster pasta and it was to die for. The Dubai chocolate pie is rich and good to share. Will definitely be back.

What a wonderful first experience at brasserie van Dam! Had dinner here for the first time yesterday. We were a bit early, that was no problem. We were kindly received and could take a seat inside or outside. The food was of excellent quality, delicious tender meat (rib eye and steak de paris) and the Dubai pistachio tart...Yum🤤🤤 In addition to the food, the service also really deserves a shoutout. Friendly, sincere and attentive, which is rare these days. That gives something extra to the experience of the evening. We enjoyed it, thank you! In short, recommended! First time ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review! We will definitely come back when we visit Amsterdam!

Brasserie Van Dam wasn't too bad for me, the food was good, the atmosphere was not too bad in Amsterdam South. Excellent and very friendly Brabant young hostess, the only downside was another young waitress who didn't really seem to be into it

Cozy place with burgers, beer and local flavor Brasserie Van Dam is exactly the place where locals go, not crowds of tourists. The authentic atmosphere of Amsterdam reigns here without pathos and tourist extra charges. Be sure to try their juicy burgers - marbled patty, crispy bacon, perfect cheese and fresh baguette. And accompanied by chilled draft beer, served in perfect condition. Add to this the friendly service, reasonable prices and pleasant crowd - including beautiful girls who often gather here in the evening. A great place to spend time in good company! Advice: come early or book a table - the locals know a lot about good places, so it can get crowded in the evening. 🔥 A true local favorite!

Gezellig ingerichte brasserie; er is een groot verwarmd terras aanwezig. Overzichtelijke menukaart met de overwegend bekende gerechten. Alles vers en smaakvol: de borden zijn keurig opgemaakt. Zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel; prima prijskwaliteit verhouding.

El nombre "Van Dam" es bien conocido en Amsterdam por sus carniceros y su hija Nicole abrió esta linda brasserie como una adición a eso. La ubicación es muy agradable, en una zona no turística de Amsterdam, rodeado de pequeñas boutiques y mansiones señoriales. El servicio es muy amable. Incluso si extrañaras a Nicole (una de las celebridades holandesas más tiernas en este momento, a diferencia de ella sobre el mejor esposo), el personal es casi pequeños clones de ella. La comida es básica pero de buena calidad. El ambiente es animado, acogedor y divertido.
