Brasserie Zonnestraal in Landelijk Gebied

Had a wonderful lunch with a friend after a long walk on the Hoorneboegse Heide. The midday snack went down well, the service was fantastic, and the support they showed me when I lost my bike key later that afternoon was truly excellent service!

The outdoor area is lovely, the location is great, but the inside is a bit crowded and chaotic. But it serves its purpose: a quick cup of coffee before or after a walk. And for me, after or before attending a meeting in another part of Zonnestraal, it's a nice combination, so it's great that it's there!

A top location for a delicious coffee and cake or a tasty lunch. In a beautiful historic building overlooking the heath, you'll enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is very varied, the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance is wonderfully relaxed. For lunch, we chose carpaccio on sourdough bread, an omelet with cheese, and a salmon flatbread. All dishes looked beautifully presented and tasted exactly as you'd hope. In short: a fantastic place where we will definitely return.

A lovely brasserie in a unique location, the former sanatorium. It's wonderful to dine in Jan Duiker's design. Friendly staff, delicious food. It is a bit noisy and a bit chilly inside (single-paned windows).

Service is total disaster and disrespect

We had lunch here this week. We ordered a veggie wrap. My word, what a poor effort. Tasteless, fridge cold and boring. No exiting flavours whatsoever. The accompanying salad, if one dare call it that, and the handfull of dry tortilla chips were equally disappointing. Whoever makes the menu here, please do better!

Simple food, great ambiance, very tasty cakes.

I was here for a drink this afternoon, and it was busy, so we joined two women who were already there. There were six chairs around a table, so plenty of room. But unfortunately, a super grumpy waitress told us that wasn't possible because she couldn't "open two tabs." I said I don't need to open a tab; I'll pay upfront. That wasn't an option either. Ordering something at the bar and then sitting down? That wasn't an option either. Eventually, we managed to order something through a Tikkie with the complete strangers. Strange policy, grumpy service, hence the 1 star. But the location is beautiful, so 3 is average.

Pleasant lunch in a unique location.

In nice weather, you can really enjoy sitting outside with a beautiful view of the heathland. The service is quick and the food (drinks) is excellent. I recently ordered cheesecake and small croquettes. They also have good draft beer and specialty beers by the bottle, including Gooische Bierbrouwer. Reasonably priced, too. The croquettes (a kind of bitterballen) are a bit small, I think. Perhaps offer 8? That's fairly common and better for a snack, but you generally see portions getting smaller in restaurants. P.S. It's also great that you can get a drink and snack just before closing time. Thanks, and see you next time.

Coffee and a delicious pastry, and not just any pastry either. Good price, fast service, and what a beautiful location.

A marvelous place at the edge of Hilversum,right at the Goois nature reserve/protected area. A former sanatorium for people with lung diseases, like tuberculosis. It is an architectural pearl, Nicky renovated but kept in the old style. Including iron window frames and low doors, lots of glass all around. I bet that it ears energy for heating and is not at all environmentally sound. But beautiful! Terras with sun, playing dogs, super friendly service and very good vegetarian croquettes. All for a reasonable price. So make your way here, take a good hike or bike ride and enjoy your lunch!

Today we had our second lunch and as always the service, quality of food as well the environment is superb. We will come back.

Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for lunch, drinks, and coffee. However, and this isn't mentioned anywhere, the kitchen closes at 4:30 PM. That's early if you're looking for a bite to eat after a walk on the Hoornboegse Heide. We did get a drink, a cola in a glass, unfortunately without ice and without lemon. A small truck was unceremoniously driven onto the terrace and unloaded right in front of us. Not a word of explanation or apology from the owner. Mediocre hospitality in a lovely location.

What a beautiful place! I was there in glorious weather and was grateful for a spot on the terrace, in the shade. The architecture of the complex is stunning, as are the surroundings (heathland and forest). We ordered a lunch platter with small dishes (croquette, slice of pizza, soup, wrap, toasted sandwich). The service was friendly. Near the restrooms, you can also see a room like the one formerly used by tuberculosis patients. This brasserie is highly recommended! Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Everyone had their own bike ride. A lunch date with friends at Brasserie Zonnestraal, the meeting point. A pleasant get-together in a pleasant environment. A delicious meal, then back home. We went to Bussum, friends to Vleuten.

Historic but somewhat cool location with an uninspiring interior. Bad experience upon arrival. We called because we'd be arriving 10-15 minutes late, and "it wasn't a problem at all," the woman on the phone said. Upon arrival, our table was taken, and a pointless discussion ensued about our late arrival, how we'd booked, who we'd spoken to, and according to the staff member, it was necessary to check with the manager, who even showed up to repeat the details. What unprofessional behavior. Ultimately, the male staff member was able to find this—the lady manager, you could clearly hear it!!!—"dominant" gentleman another table; a solution-oriented approach indeed. Two shared lunches with Pomodoro soup, toasted sandwiches, flatbread, salad, etc. were all extremely bland and lacking in creativity. The kitchen needs improvement. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

Beautiful surroundings, special location and delicious food.

Sat here for 20 minutes this afternoon, trying to get the staff's attention, but we were completely ignored, even though the people around us were being served. We ended up going elsewhere for coffee. It's a shame, it's a beautiful place, but feeling welcome is also important. What inattentive staff. Fortunately, the gardener's staff were friendly and attentive.

We vierden een verjaardag met een grote groep genodigden. Mijn petje af voor de perfecte organisatie van het feest en de attente service van alle medewerk(st)ers. Moeiteloos onthielden zij wie welk drankje had besteld. Allemaal met een vriendelijke lach op hun gezicht. Er werden heerlijke hapjes geserveerd. Kortom het was top. Dank daarvoor aan iedereen die heeft meegeholpen er een geslaagd feest van te maken.

It was busy, but unfortunately, we felt there was no consistency in the service. The food was very tasty, though.

A beautiful spot in the woods. A lovely, spacious restaurant with a rich history. Friendly, efficient, and attentive service. We had a salad and croquettes with bread. If you're afraid of dogs, this isn't the place for you. 80% of our guests bring a dog.

Checked the reviews too late…saw Nick’s review from a month ago where he waited 10 mins. I’ll go one better..20 mins even after went searching for a member of staff who acknowledged our presence before the drinks finally arrived. Also sat on nearly empty terrace so not sure why so long…no food to comment on, drinks ok but lovely area to while away the time……and you will!

What a unique location, delicious food for a reasonable price

We sat for high tea. The hot soup and sandwich were not warm and rolled off the plate, not a lot of sweets. It is very noisy there, bad acoustics?

We celebrated our wedding at the Zonnestraal. The Zonnestraal is of course a beautiful location in itself, but the decoration made it even more incredibly romantic. The relaxed atmosphere and the incredibly sweet and helpful staff made it a day without stress and never to be forgotten. The staff thinks along with you, and knows exactly what is useful. We also had a delicious meal and the Gin and tonic bar at the party was a great success! I only get married once, but if it were to happen again, I would definitely go there again!

A very special place! Special architecture, was very positively surprised. It is/was a hospital and/or mental health institution. Saw people with wheelchairs and supervisors. Also a fantastic walking place. Many people with dogs, so this is well known to dog lovers. The Brasserie is cozy and has a spacious terrace, it is not particularly large inside, but I used the terrace so I did not really get a good impression of the interior and/or the size. But what I saw was when walking outside through the entrance to the terrace.

Came here to have a cup of coffee and something tasty. Found a table quickly. It took a long time before an employee came to take an order. We also had to ask if the table could be cleaned. The cappuccino was nice and hot and the apple pie was special and very tasty. Too bad the staff pretended you didn't exist.

I couldn't tell you about the food or drinks because we sat for 10 minutes on an empty terrace without any waitress coming to our table to even say hello. Despite serving tables next to us and there being a grand total of 3 others in the restaurant with at least two waitresses working outside. If you go, be sure to wear bright clothing or make sudden movements in case that's what attracts their attention to do their job

Really extremely bad! From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. I have honestly never experienced such a bad tent. I had high tea with my family. Literally nothing was explained, tea bags were placed on the table, we were NOT looked after. You were only allowed to sit for 2 hours, but after an hour no one had visited us. I said something about this. When we finally got our food, I asked for an explanation of what was on the sandwiches, but the waiter did not know this. Special. Someone in my family had a beer on tap, but when we asked what kind of beer it was, the waiter didn't know either. In addition, the food was really not good. Sandwiches were barely filled and dried out. We only received half of what was promised via email and as stated on the menu on the internet. We also said something about this, but again nothing was done about it. Once at checkout, a lady asked if everything was OK. I indicated that we received no explanation, that we were not looked after at any time, the service was poor, as was the food and that I was very dissatisfied. She said she would pass it on, but no further response was received. No apologies, no compensation, nothing! Just the question if I wanted to enter my PIN code. I would advise against Brasserie Zonnestraal and definitely not go here. A waste of our Easter and money!

The High Tea was very good. Generous amount of savory (hot and cold) and ample amount of sweet. Not everything on the table at once, which makes it easier to take the time to enjoy the food and the company. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Beautifully located, beautiful Dudok monument! We had 2 hours for high tea, the sandwiches (pretty good) only arrived after more than an hour. Apparently too busy when the outdoor terrace is also open. Especially when it's full (and it was), extremely bad, noisy acoustics. Not recommended for people with poor hearing.

Located in a former sanatorium. Enjoyed a delicious High Tea. Friendly service, despite the crowds on Sunday. A nice and certainly popular place to rest after a beautiful bike ride or walk over the heath.

Had to give food back twice. We ordered vegetarian tasting. We first got a plate of snacks including a toasted sandwich with thick ham. That went back after the waitress initially claimed that it was really vegetarian. When I pointed to the ham she said 'oops, mistake, wrong plates'. Shortly afterwards she came back with (I think the same) plates with grilled cheese without ham. We started with the soup hopefully and by the second bite I had pieces of chicken in my mouth. I called the waitress and she didn't understand. It really was vegetarian…. No way, I said, take it again. And yes. Mistake. They would bring some tomato soup. That came a little later. Apologies have been made, but what good is that? Up to twice that mistake. I find it incompetent and careless. If you have dietary requirements or an allergy: avoid this restaurant. Not okay and perhaps even dangerous.

Enjoyed sitting in the sun. However, the staff is very slow. They don't come by to offer you a drink unless you raise your hand or ask for one yourself. Had to wait 10 minutes for 2x soft drinks. The terrace was also half empty, so that was not the issue.

Kan mij voorstellen dat dit in de zomer heerlijk is om te vertoeven, maar met temparturen rond het vriespunt was het er ijzig fris en tochtig. We hebben de jassen maar aangehouden, en als je hem over je stoel wilt hangen struikelt het personeel over alle winterwandeljassen waarmee mensen van de heide komen. Lekkere lunch. Bediening was correct.

Lots of free parking, beautiful walking area. Great place, especially when the weather is nice (in cold weather the tables near the windows are not pleasant) fast service and delicious lunch dishes. Celebrated aunt's 95th birthday with the whole family on Sunday with a delicious 'shared lunch' With coffee and super delicious apple pie and brownies for dessert. We were very satisfied. It was very busy, the terrace was completely full, but the service was excellent, they couldn't really cope, but they did their utmost to ensure that everything went smoothly. We will definitely come back more often…

Sorry, but if you run a business this way, they certainly don't want to make money. We on a sunny Sunday afternoon, after a walk with the dog, we wanted to have a cup of coffee. Nowhere else, of course, on such a beautiful day. But at a table where two people were sitting, there were still two places available and we were very kind to take advantage of them. I thought, well, I'll walk inside, place my order there and pay immediately, because an order had already been placed at the table number, of course, by the people already sitting there. Well, that wasn't possible, said the checkout girl. I said I would just pay immediately and take it with me. But no! I returned indignantly and then the people at the table offered us to place the order at their table number and then pay them via a check. We tried to order from a boy with a lock and he was very adamant and not customer friendly, no we couldn't order, we really had to have our own table number! We still try to convince him, but no, he stood his ground just like the checkout girl. Well, this policy really doesn't feel good! Sorry, but we've quit! It has really been arranged for us to meet up at a place, but this was the last time. Because the last time we ordered it was also difficult with the boy with the lock, but this beats everything! Very strange that if you can sell, just say no, then a bad review is appropriate. I really don't like bad reviews, because I wish every success, but in this case I want to express my dissatisfaction! Open atmosphere, waitress was quick with the lunch menu. Chicken sandwich was on the menu (crispy) I get two brown sandwiches with some lettuce, 3 small tomatoes and 4 pieces of (too long) fried chicken. Little love ❤️ and attention was paid to it. Maybe you should take a look at the menu? Little for much, with little passion and love. Understand your profession and show passion, which makes it just that little bit better. Success

It was super fun. The food was not very hot. But I enjoyed this outing.

Unique location. Had several group meetings. Very well organised. Nice service. They are also open to young people who are at a distance from the labor market. Unfortunately, I read some sour reviews, which is a shame because they are actually about nothing and you can quickly destroy a nice catering establishment. Before you write a review, think about what you achieve by doing so. It's not perfect anywhere and aren't we all very spoiled these days.

Still no help after fifteen minutes. All table dirty and not cleared. We just left....

Beautiful building, atmosphere of a sanatorium.

There was a stand on the table with various offers. Including cappuccino with apple pie for 6.00 euros. We ordered that. The taste of the apple pie was fine, but the base, which was supposed to be a cookie, was not cooked at all. A wet, sticky mess. At checkout we had to pay 6.50 euros. When asked, the waiter indicated that the price had increased.

Absolutely great! Fast friendly service, delicious fresh food for great prices. Always very busy, but that is understandable in this beautiful place!

Very beautiful location: against the heath, near the former sanatorium. Had a delicious high tea with more than we could eat. Tip to wear warm clothes in the cold weather. Due to the old building with few windows, there is cold & draft.

Unique location. Cozy place, a bit chilly when we just come in. It takes a while between taking the order and serving food and drinks. There are quite a large group and the restaurant is full. The food is delicious and the gravy is fresh!

Beautiful location where you can also take great walks. We had made a reservation because it was very busy. However, we had to wait fifteen minutes because there was no table available?...but anyway, we were not in a hurry. We opted for a sharing lunch with several small snacks (toasted sandwich, soup, quiche, croquette). Quality was excellent. Staff friendly but somewhat inept.

Delicious food and relaxing in the sun

It started out so nice here, but now we have been quite disappointed twice in a row. Waitress is very friendly, but the manager is a different story. On our previous visit she was (unnecessarily) nasty to visitors who moved chairs to other tables themselves. This time, while we had just started eating, she started cleaning the terrace with a lot of noise because of a company that was not yet arriving. We had to stuff the food down and then left quickly. Fortunately, there is a chip shop further down the road, so we had a drink and dessert there and sat in the sun in peace for a while. Maybe next time we'll head straight that way! Price/quality is no longer in proportion here.

We were looking forward to a high tea and made a reservation in advance. After waiting 50 minutes with only a pot of tea on the table, no explanation and after asking several times where it was, we left. The manager blamed the new staff while she herself had shown us the table. No apologies or anything either. Too bad, we were also very hungry by now.

We waited 2 hours for our lunch! The kitchen cannot handle the capacity of visitors. The food was fine. However, the service was far below par. Drinks that were offered for free before the delay were still on the bill. The managers were not open to feedback and blamed the head office for the delay. The location is special. But we won't have lunch here again.

Had a nice party, wonderfully relaxed. And yes, the weather cooperated.

The location and view make up for a lot, but the service cannot handle the crowds. This will undoubtedly also have something to do with the staff shortage, but the end result is that you have to wait far too long for a lunch dish that is missing two ingredients (parmesan cheese and black beans). I resent the fact that it is still served and only after the waiter beckons me to hear that they no longer have it.

While my previous review was simply positive, we are now very disappointed. Ordered "De Heeren van Loosdrecht" for lunch, or 2 croquettes on 2 slices of bread. However, we received 3 mini croquettes per slice of bread. Where decent croquettes on bread were served at other tables. When asked what this meant, we were also looked at somewhat stupidly. The excuse given was that the normal croquettes were hollow on the inside... Why were the other guests satisfied? Half of the mini croquettes also turned out to be empty inside. It's a pity that this was done on our own initiative and we were not given the choice of another dish. We don't come here anymore.

The atmosphere is that of a canteen. We don't know what the food is like, because after waiting half an hour the coffee still wasn't there and no one had taken our lunch order, so we left.

Na een matige lunchervaring nog een keertje besloten om te gaan. Het is tenslotte een fantastische locatie. Helaas dezelfde ervaring als de eerste terwijl er ander personeel rondliep. Er is geen aandacht voor de gasten, als je tussendoor nog iets wilt bestellen dan moet je je best doen om aandacht te trekken. Toen ik een verkeerd gerecht uitgeserveerd kreeg zei de serveerster: oh, dan hebben ze me het verkeerde gegeven bij de keuken. Apart, daardoor kregen we de indruk dat de jonge ploeg zelf niet weet wat er op de kaart staat en hoe dat er dan uitziet, of welke ingrediënten er in zitten. Het personeel is jong, gebrek aan ervaring en dat merk je. Op zich is dat niet zo erg, als er maar iemand is die de boel goed aanstuurt en ze begeleidt. En dat ontbreekt daar totaal. Bij beide keren bij het afrekenen (terwijl dat verschillende personen waren) complete desinteresse. Geen glimlach of hartelijkheid. Dit is echt enorm zonde. Bij deze uitbater ontbreekt de hospitality. Met een beetje meer aandacht zou er ook meer inkomsten zijn want dat laten ze echt liggen. Het eten was prima, maar dat werd echt teniet gedaan door het lange wachten en gebrek aan aandacht voor de tafel.
