Beautiful place in a special building

Unique location. Cozy place. A bit chilly when we first enter. It takes a while between taking the order and serving the food and drinks. We are with a somewhat large group and the restaurant is full. Otherwise, the food is tasty and the juice is fresh!

We were finally served a drink after repeatedly asking if they would take our order. The underage waitresses don't even know what to do. They also walk back empty-handed, while the table is full of the previous customer's crockery. A couple of visitors walked away because they weren't 'seen' by the waitresses. It is a shame to be served so poorly at such a beautiful location. We really need to think very carefully about whether we will return.

The buildings are quite sterile and lifeless. The outdoor chairs were very uncomfortable and made a lot of screeching noise when moved. Our order was taken quite quickly, but it took a really long time to be served, while others ordering after us received their order quicker and even before us. The food was ok, but nothing really special.

A very boring fried egg, not even butter with it. 3 fried eggs thrown on a few slices of cheese from a wholesaler. In the fish salad, slices of salmon with an enormous salt content. Poorly made lattes, but according to the wait staff, we didn't understand. And then that patio furniture that everyone was constantly sliding around and that made a horrible noise.

Situated in one of the three beautiful buildings of the Zonnestraal tuberculosis pavilion, built in the 1920s. The service is friendly, the food is fine, and the atmosphere on the terrace is pleasant. Highly recommended with this view and the clean air.

We dined at your establishment today around 2:30 PM. It is very noisy inside. Understanding each other at the same table is difficult. The staff were more preoccupied with their mobile phones and themselves than with the customers. We felt a manager was missing in this regard.

The worst goat cheese salad I’ve ever eaten here. And I paid €16 for it, too. I was shocked by the small bowl full of lettuce and then those tiny mini slices of goat cheese on top. Almost more skin than goat cheese itself. Didn't find any dressing, but luckily I had two packets of honey with me. At the bottom, a few stray cashew nuts and beetroot. Along with that, I asked for a sparkling water. Then I expect a brand. Sourcy, Spa…. No, just a private bottle. No cap on it. In short, to me that comes across as tap water with carbonation added. It costs next to the purchase price. Messy outside too. Lots of sand, tables looking quite sloppy.

Delicious food, fast and friendly service

What an amazing place this is. Ticked off a bit of history by walking through the corridors where grandma once walked. The terrace is top-notch. Enjoyed a delicious lunch. Something for everyone. Good, extensive menu. From coffee with cake to sandwiches with salad. Very tasty! Sitting now with my feet in the sand and my head in the sun. A lovely breeze is blowing around here. Beautiful nature area! I will definitely come back here.

A brasserie in a unique location. The food was good and unpretentious, just tasty bites without culinary masterpieces. The waitresses were friendly and patient. It was strange, though, that if you order a slice of apple pie and ask after 15 minutes if it's still coming, the answer is "the apple pie is sold out"... It would have been better if they had communicated this proactively. The terrace is beautiful, with large parasols, but the iron legs of the chairs make a lot of noise on the concrete.

This brasserie is situated in a former sanatorium in the middle of the woods and heath of Hilversum.

Once again today, found nice, relaxing shady spots on the terrace. Plenty of room for a dog and equipped with water bowls for the dogs. Despite being located on a sandy terrace, it is also accessible to a wheelchair via a paved road.

They can't make a fried egg here either. Unfortunately.

Had a great toasted sandwich. Friendly staff. A bit strange that you are only allowed to park at 6 parking spaces if you have an electric vehicle.

Beautiful location, good quality food. Service not too fast; we had booked a high tea. You can dine at your leisure. Very warm inside, fortunately the window could be opened. It was quite busy, so the noise is a bit overwhelming. Perhaps they could improve the soundproofing.

Brasserie Zonnestraal is surrounded by beautiful green surroundings. The decaf cappuccino tasted good. After waiting inside for 10 minutes, I had to find the staff myself to place my order. Unfortunately, further adjustments to the menu for pregnant women were not possible. I wanted the 'Zonnestraaltje'; the tuna could be omitted, and no substitute was available for, say, a fried egg. It is strange that they want to serve a dry bread roll and consider that normal. The argument was that they were busy. Understandable, but I am a guest too. And if I have to look for staff myself just to order a cup of coffee, then I don't understand what they are busy with.

The food was really delicious and the service was good.

Beautiful location! It is wonderful that a utilitarian former sanatorium is available as a dining venue. You can enjoy lovely walks in the area, and it is peaceful.

The building is old and it was very noisy inside. I couldn't hear my companions very well. Furthermore, the food was tasty, but something went wrong, meaning 2 dishes had to be made again and subsequently weren't ready. They did resolve the issue well and offered us another drink. But for me, it is not worth repeating.

The restaurant was very noisy and loud, and there were ants crawling everywhere. They took the order completely wrong; the food didn't arrive at the same time. And my fried egg was still completely raw and slimy. There was one member of staff who was very nice and helped us well, but that was it. A very bad place, I will never come here again.

Friendly staff, but the young waitstaff still lacks some hospitality experience. Unfortunately, they also lack knowledge of the ingredients. Adapting for allergies is a bit difficult.

Nice place, beautiful surroundings. Food fine and plenty of choice. The service lacked hospitality standards; they were friendly, but we often had to take the initiative ourselves. Not a major issue, but a shame because it is quite easy to fix.

Great place. Especially on sunny days. Respect for the staff, considering there are people who feel the need to complain about everything. If you want to be sure of a spot, book in advance. That way, you won't have to take out your disappointment on the waitresses.

The young girls from the Gooi region serving could really use some hospitality training, and the terrace could be decorated a bit more invitingly. Inside, it's still an echo chamber even though there are already panels on the ceiling; perhaps curtains and books that absorb sound better would be helpful... otherwise, it's a beautiful location!

Service took a very long time, the food was not warm, the place was very busy, dogs were running loose inside, I will not be coming back here.

A wonderful place to relax after a lovely walk. Beautiful buildings on the estate and a lovely stretch of forest and heathland. Dogs are allowed on a leash. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is very pleasant.

They close at 5 p.m., and if you arrive at 4:30 p.m., they'll do anything to get you out as quickly as possible—not very hospitable. When you order, they'll arrive impatiently with the bills right afterward... Such a shame for such a lovely place.

The first real rays of sunshine made the terrace very busy. We had to wait a bit longer, but the lunch was delicious! The iron chairs outside are quite hard and cold, so not very comfortable. A beautiful building in a beautiful setting!

A great place to eat for lunch. Many tables were reserved with starting times, so there were still tables available. The tables offered a beautiful view. There were plenty of parking spaces, spread across several locations. Several walking routes are signposted from the brasserie; information is available from the parking lot.

We've been here a bunch of times, mostly after a forest walk. The service is always unpleasant - customers just seem to be an annoyance to the waiters. Simple training would really help, like if a dish is served to share, bring an extra plate and don't huff and puff when asked, remove used glasses/finished meals before bringing desserts. Just basics. I haven't made a review before today because I'm getting used to terrible service since living in the Netherlands, but our water was served in really gross and dirty bottles today. We only noticed after the bottles were all finished. Didn't bother telling staff because we were clearly just an inconvenience to them. But ja, this is mangy and disgusting. If you're going to use reusable bottles you HAVE to sterilize and clean them between uses.

Yesterday was my birthday, the weather was gorgeous, lots of snow, and the sun was shining. Plan: take a long walk, then have coffee at the brasserie. I checked the website, and yes, they would be open. When we arrived at 3:30 PM, they were already sweeping inside. The doors were locked. I knocked, and the answer was, "No, we're closed because of the weather." Meanwhile, more walkers had joined us and were also keen to have a bite to eat. They had also checked the website; it showed 5:00 PM. Why don't you put something like that on the website if you're closing early? After all, the weather was so beautiful that we could have practically had our coffee outside! This was very strange and unfriendly to customers!

Already closed at 3:10 pm, you have no use for it

Had a wonderful lunch with a friend after a long walk on the Hoorneboegse Heide. The midday snack went down well, the service was fantastic, and the support they showed me when I lost my bike key later that afternoon was truly excellent service!

The outdoor area is lovely, the location is great, but the inside is a bit crowded and chaotic. But it serves its purpose: a quick cup of coffee before or after a walk. And for me, after or before attending a meeting in another part of Zonnestraal, it's a nice combination, so it's great that it's there!

A top location for a delicious coffee and cake or a tasty lunch. In a beautiful historic building overlooking the heath, you'll enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is very varied, the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance is wonderfully relaxed. For lunch, we chose carpaccio on sourdough bread, an omelet with cheese, and a salmon flatbread. All dishes looked beautifully presented and tasted exactly as you'd hope. In short: a fantastic place where we will definitely return.

A lovely brasserie in a unique location, the former sanatorium. It's wonderful to dine in Jan Duiker's design. Friendly staff, delicious food. It is a bit noisy and a bit chilly inside (single-paned windows).

Service is total disaster and disrespect

We had lunch here this week. We ordered a veggie wrap. My word, what a poor effort. Tasteless, fridge cold and boring. No exiting flavours whatsoever. The accompanying salad, if one dare call it that, and the handfull of dry tortilla chips were equally disappointing. Whoever makes the menu here, please do better!

Simple food, great ambiance, very tasty cakes.

I was here for a drink this afternoon, and it was busy, so we joined two women who were already there. There were six chairs around a table, so plenty of room. But unfortunately, a super grumpy waitress told us that wasn't possible because she couldn't "open two tabs." I said I don't need to open a tab; I'll pay upfront. That wasn't an option either. Ordering something at the bar and then sitting down? That wasn't an option either. Eventually, we managed to order something through a Tikkie with the complete strangers. Strange policy, grumpy service, hence the 1 star. But the location is beautiful, so 3 is average.

In nice weather, you can really enjoy sitting outside with a beautiful view of the heathland. The service is quick and the food (drinks) is excellent. I recently ordered cheesecake and small croquettes. They also have good draft beer and specialty beers by the bottle, including Gooische Bierbrouwer. Reasonably priced, too. The croquettes (a kind of bitterballen) are a bit small, I think. Perhaps offer 8? That's fairly common and better for a snack, but you generally see portions getting smaller in restaurants. P.S. It's also great that you can get a drink and snack just before closing time. Thanks, and see you next time.

Coffee and a delicious pastry, and not just any pastry either. Good price, fast service, and what a beautiful location.

A marvelous place at the edge of Hilversum,right at the Goois nature reserve/protected area. A former sanatorium for people with lung diseases, like tuberculosis. It is an architectural pearl, Nicky renovated but kept in the old style. Including iron window frames and low doors, lots of glass all around. I bet that it ears energy for heating and is not at all environmentally sound. But beautiful! Terras with sun, playing dogs, super friendly service and very good vegetarian croquettes. All for a reasonable price. So make your way here, take a good hike or bike ride and enjoy your lunch!

Today we had our second lunch and as always the service, quality of food as well the environment is superb. We will come back.

Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for lunch, drinks, and coffee. However, and this isn't mentioned anywhere, the kitchen closes at 4:30 PM. That's early if you're looking for a bite to eat after a walk on the Hoornboegse Heide. We did get a drink, a cola in a glass, unfortunately without ice and without lemon. A small truck was unceremoniously driven onto the terrace and unloaded right in front of us. Not a word of explanation or apology from the owner. Mediocre hospitality in a lovely location.

Everyone had their own bike ride. A lunch date with friends at Brasserie Zonnestraal, the meeting point. A pleasant get-together in a pleasant environment. A delicious meal, then back home. We went to Bussum, friends to Vleuten.

What a beautiful place! I was there in glorious weather and was grateful for a spot on the terrace, in the shade. The architecture of the complex is stunning, as are the surroundings (heathland and forest). We ordered a lunch platter with small dishes (croquette, slice of pizza, soup, wrap, toasted sandwich). The service was friendly. Near the restrooms, you can also see a room like the one formerly used by tuberculosis patients. This brasserie is highly recommended! Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Historic but somewhat cool location with an uninspiring interior. Bad experience upon arrival. We called because we'd be arriving 10-15 minutes late, and "it wasn't a problem at all," the woman on the phone said. Upon arrival, our table was taken, and a pointless discussion ensued about our late arrival, how we'd booked, who we'd spoken to, and according to the staff member, it was necessary to check with the manager, who even showed up to repeat the details. What unprofessional behavior. Ultimately, the male staff member was able to find this—the lady manager, you could clearly hear it!!!—"dominant" gentleman another table; a solution-oriented approach indeed. Two shared lunches with Pomodoro soup, toasted sandwiches, flatbread, salad, etc. were all extremely bland and lacking in creativity. The kitchen needs improvement. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

Sat here for 20 minutes this afternoon, trying to get the staff's attention, but we were completely ignored, even though the people around us were being served. We ended up going elsewhere for coffee. It's a shame, it's a beautiful place, but feeling welcome is also important. What inattentive staff. Fortunately, the gardener's staff were friendly and attentive.

We vierden een verjaardag met een grote groep genodigden. Mijn petje af voor de perfecte organisatie van het feest en de attente service van alle medewerk(st)ers. Moeiteloos onthielden zij wie welk drankje had besteld. Allemaal met een vriendelijke lach op hun gezicht. Er werden heerlijke hapjes geserveerd. Kortom het was top. Dank daarvoor aan iedereen die heeft meegeholpen er een geslaagd feest van te maken.

A beautiful spot in the woods. A lovely, spacious restaurant with a rich history. Friendly, efficient, and attentive service. We had a salad and croquettes with bread. If you're afraid of dogs, this isn't the place for you. 80% of our guests bring a dog.

Checked the reviews too late…saw Nick’s review from a month ago where he waited 10 mins. I’ll go one better..20 mins even after went searching for a member of staff who acknowledged our presence before the drinks finally arrived. Also sat on nearly empty terrace so not sure why so long…no food to comment on, drinks ok but lovely area to while away the time……and you will!

We sat for high tea. The hot soup and sandwich were not warm and rolled off the plate, not a lot of sweets. It is very noisy there, bad acoustics?

We celebrated our wedding at the Zonnestraal. The Zonnestraal is of course a beautiful location in itself, but the decoration made it even more incredibly romantic. The relaxed atmosphere and the incredibly sweet and helpful staff made it a day without stress and never to be forgotten. The staff thinks along with you, and knows exactly what is useful. We also had a delicious meal and the Gin and tonic bar at the party was a great success! I only get married once, but if it were to happen again, I would definitely go there again!

A very special place! Special architecture, was very positively surprised. It is/was a hospital and/or mental health institution. Saw people with wheelchairs and supervisors. Also a fantastic walking place. Many people with dogs, so this is well known to dog lovers. The Brasserie is cozy and has a spacious terrace, it is not particularly large inside, but I used the terrace so I did not really get a good impression of the interior and/or the size. But what I saw was when walking outside through the entrance to the terrace.
