We had a wonderful evening at Tante Roosje with my father and sister. The staff was friendly and pleasant, and the atmosphere was great. That is precisely why we find it so unfortunate that our evening ended so unpleasantly because of the restroom attendant. I gave her a €2 coin and asked if she could give me change. She indicated that the change was on top of the saucer, while she was sitting downstairs due to the heat. However, after my visit to the restroom, it turned out there was no change at all. When I pointed this out, she suddenly said that “a whole evening costs €5”. When I pointed out that I had only been to the restroom once (at €0.50), she subsequently claimed that I had only given her €0.50. I was truly stunned and even started to doubt myself. Fortunately, my sister was standing right there and could confirm that I had indeed given €2, because she only had €2 coins in her bag. Eventually, with a lot of effort and a rather arrogant attitude, we got our €1.50 back. What makes it even stranger is that my father had already given €2 just before that and said that change wasn't needed. It felt to us as if there was a deliberate attempt to withhold €1.50. Moreover, we were among the first guests of the evening, so there was no rush or confusion. Once again: we are very enthusiastic about the café itself and the rest of the staff. But this experience with the restroom attendant has unfortunately left a bad taste in our mouths. We hope the owner takes this seriously, because this is no way to treat guests.

It is always a pleasure to spend time at Tante Roosje. First a bite and a drink on the terrace, and then live music inside.🎉

Had a delicious lunch and friendly service

I had my first beer here today! Well into my 20s by now, but it's never too late for beer! Hmmmm! The waiter asked what I wanted to drink, and I said, "Surprise me!" He came back in no time with a half-liter of Heineken! Because it tasted so good, I indulged in a few more of the same afterwards. And Jesus, the service was fast time after time. Once the Spa Gold had become one with my blood, it was time for the bill. When I wanted to pay at the bar, yet another waiter told me it was on the house, giving me a big wink. What a great place!

We only had coffee. It was good. The staff was super friendly.

I was assaulted by a drunk customer here (hit in the face with a beer glass). The staff did not intervene, remove the person, or call the police. Very concerning in terms of customer safety.

When we spend a day in Amsterdam a few times a year, we always sit on the terrace here and have a bite to eat. It's always lively, the service is friendly, and the music is great.

We wanted to have a nice beer at Tante Roosje, but unfortunately, there was a Black security guard who wouldn't let us in. He was guilty of ethnic profiling. Girls in short skirts and men with darker skin were allowed in; they were simply allowed to skip the line. This same man was also very rude and incapable of engaging in a decent conversation. This situation really shows once again how things stand at Tante Roosje.

We randomly found this place on Rembrandt Square. Among the cafés on this row, it looked the most atmospheric and crowded, so we decided to stop by. We noticed people drinking something with cream on top, and since it was very cold outside, we got curious and decided to try this mysterious drink at Tante Roosje. We ordered coffee and a Dutch pancake, and it turned out that the mysterious drink was amaretto with cream on top, served as a welcome treat. Very nice! The photos say it all 😋❤️

Hello, my name is Itxiar. This is the second review I'm writing because I see you're deleting the negative ones. I don't believe the negative review I posted recently! My negative review is about two young women who served me very rudely and laughed at me. I ordered a cheese croissant, and they said they couldn't make it, which is strange because I go to this place for breakfast every time I'm in Amsterdam. In fact, I was there the day before and had no problems at all! I'll now post photos of the unfriendly and unprofessional young women and photos of the breakfast. Thanks!

Unless you want to pay €20 for a single skewer of lukewarm satay (tastes great, but leaves you with a stomach ache) with a few limp fries and a pile of raw vegetables that even a rabbit wouldn't bother with, save yourself the trouble and eat elsewhere. Although the meatball in cold gravy (€17.50) does come with two (!) cauliflower florets. They don't take any feedback into account.

Authentic Amsterdam atmosphere at Rembrandt Square: fantastic! Too bad the bitterballen weren't piping hot.

We found this place randomly when walking around Amsterdam. Girlfriend loved the vibe. Its busy early morning and goes crazy in the afternoons. We loved it so much that our next visit to Amsterdam, we booked the NH Schiller Hotel across the Rembrandtplein to be close to this cafe. Staff is lovely and polite, food and drinks good quality. You might have to wait for service at busy times but do not worry they are quite switched on, they will come to get your order. A little request to the management, maybe additional staff at busy times could make this place absolutely perfect. Thank you

What can you say about this A-spot? The pub of "Our" capital. Live music on Sundays from 5 PM. Always fun. The staff is incredibly friendly. A placebo to behold🍺💪🏽

For late risers, breakfast is served until 4:00 PM. We had breakfast here and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. So good that we came back the next day. Visited on January 10, 2026

What a surprise in the heart of Amsterdam! Heated terrace on Rembrandtplein and a lovely place to sit inside as well. Enjoyed a delicious, generous 12-hour snack for an almost un-Amsterdam price. Very friendly service!

Maaike is a real sweetheart, a first responder, and very attentive to her guests! A great addition to this pub!

Delicious cappuccino with a little something extra, delicious cake, and the toasted sandwiches were also delicious! Friendly service and a great spot outside on the heated terrace, overlooking the square. Highly recommended :-)

We were ignored and not served. Guests who arrived after us were able to place their orders immediately and received their drinks promptly. So we left the restaurant after about 30 minutes. We can only comment on the service. It was ignorant and rude.

Last Friday evening, around 8:30 PM, we sat down for a drink at Tante Roosje's terrace. The service was great and the security was friendly. The terrace was full, and inside, the partygoers had already started celebrating the weekend. The terrace was cozy and lively. The house white wine wasn't very good, so considering the prices of the other wines, I'd recommend a spirit. We paid €1.00 each for a glass of tap water with our wine, and you also have to pay for the restroom. Incidentally, the restroom was very clean and tidy.

Had a few beers here on the patio. The bartender was friendly and kept a close eye on everything.

It was a nice Party on friday night. We only drunk beers.

It's fun, especially when Ajax draws against Volendam. But a beer for €4.50 is a bit much. Great Amsterdam music.

Lovely café Tante Roosje in Amsterdam. It has a great terrace. We love going there. So if you're in the area, definitely visit café Tante Roosje 🍷

We stopped here for breakfast we were the only ones and the great gentlemen working were delightful. Food was delicious we had the Dutch pancakes with ice cream and the English breakfast. Give them a try if your in the area.

If most, if not all, of the following apply to you, Café Tante Roosje is the place for you a) you are at Rembrandtpleijn, in dire need of something to eat and drink b) you are at least 77 years old, and your friends tease you for your old-fashioned taste in music c) you have a hearing aid that you can turn down to 0 (or lower) d) you often find the music in the Eurovison Song Contest to be too heavy and complicated Otherwise: stay outside or stay away. When we asked why they had to play music at a decibel level that is definitely medically unsound, when most customer looked puzzled, shouting across the tables, the explanation is "we are a bar". When encountering such advanced logic, one can only back down. The name indicates they are actually a café, but what's in a name? The food was all right, we tried several OK toasts (pity we had to eat in a hurry to get out of there...). The service somewhere between average and poor. Rembrandtpleijn has a lot of choices, not sure we found the right one, but the locations is nice either way.

This afternoon we sat here on the terrace and enjoyed lunch. A wide range of beer, which is always good. Lunch was very tasty.

Another great afternoon of a day in Amsterdam. Nice terrace, all nice and friendly people go here. A wonderful few hours spent. Friendly and pleasant service.

Nice place, friendly staff but once you arrive at the toilet you are not very politely sent away to go to the bar to get some change so you can pee on your drink.

Cold but sunny day in February. Around noon the sun is right on the row of catering establishments on the north side. Café Aunt Roosje has been located here for many years. Here you can sit with your nose in the sun on a cozy terrace. I was craving pasta again. And they had it! With prawns, and it was very tasty, pasta seemed freshly made to me. Fresh spring onions, small pepper and more than enough prawns. Enjoyed it. Served in Dutch by a lovely lady from Amsterdam.

Weekend in Amsterdam, had lunch here for 2 days. It was delicious!! Nice and friendly staff, cozy atmosphere! We would have liked to go inside in the evening, but it was so busy. Shame!

Obnoxious and insulting waitress, who didn't take our order because she was angry with us for accidentally closing the door to the terrace. After 30 minutes the resentful waitress would not take our order. I do not recommend this restaurant!!!

When I stepped in, I got a very Bad Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge vibe which was matched by a very funny, witty bartender. The lunchtime menu offered a selection of typical Dutch lunch consisting of cold and warm sandwiches, bites (hapjes), burgers and pancakes. One thing that was quite disappointing is that the mains did not come with chips/fritjes which made it quite expensive. When the food came out it was just enough to still the hunger. It would be interesting to see whether the evening time has a different vibe to lunch…

We had breakfast at this café on Rembrandt Square in Amsterdam. Everything was very decent: the breakfast was tasty, and the service was great. The only downside was that it was a bit noisy, but that’s to be expected in such a lively location. Overall, we enjoyed it and were happy with our visit.

Good place, good atmosphere, I went at night to have drinks and I liked the diversity in music 15 minutes of classical songs in English and 15 minutes of concerts by Dutch singers, good atmosphere, good music and good prices

The breakfast was amazing. The pub looks simple itself but the food was reasonably priced but extremely good and well presented. Great small details with the salad and eggs. Strongly recommend the omelets. Service was super friendly and fast!

The restaurant has a selection of delicious dishes, and many types of tasty and high-quality beers. I tasted several beers and enjoyed them all. The price of beers is fair compared to Amsterdam. It is recommended to take a hotel in the area of ​​Rembrandt Square, the hotel prices are relatively cheap compared to the hotels in Dam Square. I visited this cafe for the first time. But I've heard a lot about it and know that it's a very popular place in Amsterdam. It was very cozy, authentic, and the food was delicious. It's a place you want to return to again and again

Very nice tent. Good atmosphere and nice music. By poor service I don't mean the bar staff, but the toilet attendant. To be honest, everyone who went to the toilet yesterday encountered this. . The toilet attendant can receive much more tips if she approaches customers in a different way. I mean a smile costs nothing :-)

Nice place but it was crowded when I went there. Was surprised about the food: Did not expect the large portions and that quality. It took some time before getting my order but then the place was full.

I haven't awarded any places five stars yet. Despite a chilly, long day, one of my best experiences. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was exceptional in a cozy setting. The other patrons were friendly, occasionally joining in song with the bar's music. Tess was particularly amazing, and Richard's assistance made the experience even better. Aunt Roosje is always pleasant, good atmosphere and excellent live singer(s). Quite busy on Sundays, but pleasantly busy with a mixed audience!

Local with tapas, option for lunch or dinner informally. Very busy terrace even in winter. Very good atmosphere, good music. The croquettes are our recommendation, although I also saw the tray of nachos and they looked very good as well as being quite large.

Great bar, very tasty food. The waiter was really kind. Service is fast. Prices are high but this is Amsterdam center.
