Café Beurre in Staatsliedenbuurt

Basic, plain, boring... Bad sauces, no flavours, poor cooking. We asked for an English menu as we don't speak Dutch, and, they said: translate it into English with Google yourself. Asked for a cake they brogh a mini coke. Pffff... Bad experience.

Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The food was difficult (and there wasn't much of it) to share, causing all the sauces to run together on your small plate and everything to taste the same. We were early, the first ones there, and yet we had to call the wait staff ourselves if we wanted water or wine, even though there was no one else to serve. Strange.

Had a lovely dinner with girlfriends outside on the terrace at Beurre. Cute vibe, delicious wines, and truly top-notch food. Had a super tasty meal; we shared all the dishes from the menu, and they were timed perfectly one after the other. Highly recommended!

Not a pleasant experience. We had to wait a very long time for food and to get in touch with the wait staff. We had indicated that one person was a vegetarian. However, for the main course, only fish was served. When we pointed this out, they said that the previous course had vegetarian options. That would mean that one person would miss out on that course. So, I would definitely not recommend this if you are a vegetarian. We were also served the wrong wine.

This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The service was poor throughout the evening, with several mistakes being made. For example, we were served the wrong wine, and we had to wait an unreasonably long time between courses. One person in our group was vegetarian, but when the main course was served, there was only a fish dish. It seemed the staff assumed that three people would eat while the fourth could simply have the potatoes. This was completely unacceptable. We have never walked out of a restaurant before, but after this experience we decided to pay for our drinks and starters and leave to eat somewhere else. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.

French style cooking with Dutch ingredients. I recommend the prei beignets and the buikspek! The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The only downside is that the restaurant is a bit small so it can be a bit cramped, but I'm practically nitpicking here

Great food, vibe and service. Would highly recommend. Best dinner experience in Amsterdam so far. Fish and side dishes were all delicious but star of the show were the potatoes with saffron lime mayo!! Amazing drinks, had the spicy margarita and a wine the waitress perfectly picked for me :) Will be back!

We had a delicious meal at Beurre! Unique dishes, accompanied by lovely wines. The service and chefs are also very pleasant and personal, which you don't see often these days. So, absolutely fantastic, thank you, we would love to come back again soon.

Had a lovely evening here last weekend. Perfect cosy, relaxed vibe, and the service was amazing, super friendly, attentive, and never rushed. Recommend the bar seats! Food was incredible. We shared several dishes and loved everything. The pacing was spot on, with dishes arriving at just the right intervals, which made the whole experience feel really well thought out. Great balance of flavours too, salty, spicy, and slightly sweet. Highlights were the spicy BBQ chicken, pork belly and the leek & ricotta dish. But the absolute standout was the brioche with poultry, I’m still thinking about it! Great wine, amazing cocktails, and such a nice atmosphere that we ended up staying for hours. Can’t wait to come back!

I find the fish options to be a real enrichment of the menu compared to the old style.

The food was tasty, but I found it pricey for the experience it provided. We took the set menu, but we actually missed something extra, such as a bread roll beforehand or a small intermediate course. Additionally, the two-hour time slot didn't work well for us; you are quite literally stared out of the place as soon as the time is up, which makes the evening less relaxed. For a restaurant where you pay 85.- pp (starter, a main course to share, and a dessert with two glasses of wine), I actually find this really inappropriate. It is also a shame that after dessert, no one came to ask if we wanted coffee or anything else, so we didn't get the chance to do so either, because we had to get up for shift two. Corona is over, so surely you should just be able to enjoy a nice after-dinner chat, especially at places like this…

Nice atmosphere, food is a bit overpriced in my opinion, below is our rating: - the bread 10/10 - the cabbage 10/10 - the chicken 5/10 ( nothing special, rlly does taste most like langoustine tho) - the mushrooms 6/10 - the leek and ricotta 8.5/10 Thanks!

Shouldn’t Be Only About the Food Summary: Good food. Zero mindfulness. Overall, a bad dining experience. We booked weeks in advance for a 21:00 Valentine’s Day dinner expecting a proper table, but were instead squeezed into the very end of the bar with barely 20 cm of space each and no coat storage, my girlfriend was literally facing the wall and a giant bottle covered with wax that was taking a lot of the already small space. We were not informed in advance about bar seating, despite being told otherwise. For €55 per person, only for the fixed menu, the same price as guests comfortably seated at tables, we spent nearly two hours on stools with no legroom, stacking plates and eating awkwardly due to the lack of space. The food was good, though slightly salty at times, and the drinks were fine, but the overall experience felt overcrowded, uncomfortable, and poorly managed for such an occasion.

The location and service are good. I thought the portions were way too small. You can't even share. After ordering everything on the menu, we went to Café Restaurant Amsterdam because we were still so hungry and they had decent portions. Considering the price, that's a real shame. Also, the outdoor seating isn't very pleasant because it's on the street, but inside is. The wine is also very expensive, so keep that in mind.

The food is truly exceptionally good. The service and atmosphere are average. You sit quite close together on somewhat wobbly chairs in a small space. The toilet is urban – you have to like that. 😉

Wasn’t planning on sharing a review but got an email asking for it so I’m also sharing here for other’s visibility. Cozy vibe, good service, terrible food. Super simple food for a high price. Quality of food was quite low. Aubergine was undercooked and taste was just really average and flat and the sauce was not integrated in the dish. Oyster mushrooms, super simple dish with average taste! Entrecote was chewy with heavily salted cauliflower purée and sauce. Bread was nicely grilled but also super salted. All above and considering the small portions, we were wondering what it is that we are actually paying for! We stopped ordering more and switched to playing cards which was gezellig!

The restaurant looks really cute and has a great atmosphere for a night out dining. Unfortunately the corner we were sitting was freezing cold. We mentioned it but the waitress couldn’t change it. We recommended to have blankets in this corner as it was getting colder during the evenings I took a hot shower upon arriving home. The menu is interesting as it has a great variety of things we never heard of. Interesting combinations all of them tasty and a bit pricy. The service is super friendly and forward.

Me and my girlfriend were really excited to eat here. The vibe is cozy, comfortable and elegant. We also thought the service was great. Not pushy, and not dry either. Friendly staff. The food was enjoyable, visually pleasing as well. However the only issue we had was that something in the food made us both sick in the night. Not sure what it was, undercooked meat? But anyway, besides this last point- we were happy.

Am I crazy? I see all the positive reviews, but this was terrible. Everything is drowning in sauce and tasteless; we feel sick and rush out the door to grab a quick pizza. Some people might like it, but it's definitely not for everyone.

I highly recommend Café Beurre! I celebrated my 30th birthday here with friends, and it couldn't have been better. Incredibly delicious food, great wines, and excellent service. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also fantastic, with lovely lighting from the many candles and beautiful table decorations. At midnight, they even played the song "Happy Birthday" for me. I'll definitely be back!

Biggest red flag in town! Do not take too seriously what you see on Instagram... I got targeted by their account and really loved their artistic direction. The buttery vibe really got me but in the end, the place lame, butter is disgusting, the service is very bad and the restaurant itself is in the worst neighborhood of Amsterdam... Runaway!

Every dish was way too salty. Unfortunately it seems like this place is only instagrammable but lacks in culinary quality. Mousse aux chocolate wasn’t mousse at all but rather a block of ganache.

High quality dishes, with great sauces. Tried the aubergine, sourdough toast, cauliflower and sea bass - all good. Large natural wine selection. Fairly priced.

He thought along with me about how we could make this dinner even more special, and made the evening go exactly as planned. 5 stars for this man! We were welcomed very warmly by the staff, which made you feel right at home in this nice, modest restaurant. The service was very neat, personal and not at all pushy. There is really nothing bad to say about the food, it was excellent! Very unique dishes, all with a very good taste. The portions were also perfect. A truly special experience that you don't just find in a restaurant! The extensive drinks menu and knowledge about the different wines made this dinner complete. They thought along with the preference of the guest, and asked with genuine interest about your taste. This restaurant is definitely recommended if you can appreciate good, special dinners. We really enjoyed our evening here and couldn't have wished for anything else. Rutger, you are a hero! Definitely see you again :)

A favorite of ours. Casual atmosphere but high quality food. Nice selection of wine. Great to sit out on the street and enjoy the neighborhood while having a really good meal. Lots of little plates. A diverse mix of food. Great for vegetarians. It may sound silly, but the grilled toast w/ their homemade butter and roasted garlic is a must have.

I just love spontaneous dinner plans.. we had nice little summer evening escape, with great service, recommendations on what to eat and how to combine with wine 🍷

It's a shame how this restaurant handles its cancellations. No shows are very annoying for a restaurant and cost money. It's understandable that an amount (10 euros per person) is requested when making a reservation to keep this under control. However, if you are unlucky enough to get sick on the day of your reservation and you cancel properly (6 hours before the reservation), you will be treated the same as a no show. You will not get the amount back, you should have gotten sick the day before. Of course, your table will be reserved by someone else, it's always busy. The only option you are offered is to find someone else who can eat ad hoc. The amount will also not be reserved for you for the next time. That would be nice. Customer-friendly is different. Win-win for Beurre, too bad for the customer. Not chic.

Great wine and the food was good, and so was the atmosphere. However the portions are so small compared to what they cost. Sure, I understand the sharing concept and ordering several dishes. However, we spent 70 euros per person, we got home and had dinner again.

The food? Truly amazing. The portions? Tiny. The atmosphere? About as warm as the broken heating. Add in a poor selection of non-alcoholic drinks and a setting that’s far from family-friendly and it’s hard to fully enjoy the meal. If you love great flavors but don’t mind leaving hungry, broke and cold, this is the place for you!

Been a couple time and always leave a bit dissapointed because of the food. It’s a bit bland, not refined and small portions for the price. I personally think the food at Calisto or Bottleshop is way better and often less expensive. Nice atmosphere and nice staff though!

Incredible food, packed with flavour (toast, corvina and red chicory with tahini were highlights, good cocktails too), original combinations and fast and efficient service! Big terrace too which is nice. Price wise isnt the worst I've seen in Amsterdam at similar places. Dessert is probably the most expensive. Would totally recommend!

Super tasty food but the portions are atrocious. Why are 6 pieces of gnocchi 20 euros ? Vibe is lovely, staff are helpful but we left hungry for the amount we paid. It’s more of a wine that you get a snack or two, do not go expecting to eat a full meal or to spend less than 100 euros.

Great place! Walked in spontaneously and were very happy to have landed in this particular restaurant. Super friendly ans helpful service. Great concept of being able to share meels (one often regrets to have ordered something because the plate of the other looks so much tastier…(?!)not happening here!). Every dish was interesting in taste, colour and texture. If I ever come back to Amsterdam, i’d go back there to fill up my stomach with their goodnesses… Thank you very much for this lovely evening

Recently had diner with some friends. The french bistrot style menu is nice, wines could do better. The atmosphere howerer was a bad experience. Cold and very uncomfortable seats. There might have been a problem with the heating, but staff couldn't say. This place can definately be nice in summer.

Heating piece; the whole thing cold. If the stove is broken, it is better to close the shop. Unfortunately, the place doesn't smell fresh either.

Disappointing. Dishes are nice but do not rise above mediocrity. It was cold and the portions were small. Price/quality not OK. Not a second time here.

What started as my favorite restaurant that positioned itself as a restaurant for the neighborhood, has unfortunately now been a disappointment twice. The food will still be fantastic, but unfortunately I have already walked in and left twice. They pretend that there are still tables available for which you do not need to make a reservation, but in reality that appears not to be the case. The window tables that they say they keep available for walk-ins were eventually reserved. Or you should want to eat at the bar, but I think the food is a bit too pricey for that. Who knows, I might make another reservation.

Simply an amazing intimate place with wine and exquisite dishes.

Such a gem! One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to find a local, boutique space that reminds me - I am travelling- The staff is excellent, english not so good. We opted to take recommendations and the small platess that we shared were each excellent and delicious. The smoked eggs, the salad, the wine were all great. Atmosphere only as it was tiny and our table could barely hold our food.The price was very reasonable.

What a huge disappointment. Let me start with something positive: the wine. Excellent. However, the food is very substandard. Portions way too small, food not tasty. Too bland. The dishes are very easy to recreate yourself. On the other hand, it all looks very neat. The service also leaves much to be desired. During the 2-hour session, no one came to our table (counting) zero times to ask if we wanted something to drink. Ultimately decided not to order dessert and continue the evening elsewhere. Almost inconceivable that Petit Peche (5 stars) is part of this restaurant. There really is a world of difference in terms of taste, service and experience.

Very horny restaurant. Very tasty vegetarian dishes and very friendly service. The only disadvantage was that the chairs on the terrace were not very comfortable. But they are forgiven if you make such delicious food.

Hip concept of small sharing dishes, very tasty and creative. Intimate cozy vibe inside and a pleasant terrace. The mushroom brioche is a must to try! Although, they have a great selection of wine, I wouldn’t recommend experimenting with it, go with a nice mineral white wine, since every dish has a lot of butter.

A very Amsterdam-ish hip place. I appreciated the menu and taste combinations it offers. But portions are small, so it’s better you don’t come hungry there. The service was alright, just alright, nothing else to add.

Such a nice place! The brioche with shitake is delicious. You can taste the pleasure and love with which everything is prepared. And that in a super relaxed, accessible atmosphere with lovely people. And then I haven't even mentioned the fine wine list. I also like that you can't make reservations.

Café Beurre, a nice place with a lot of potential. The vegetarian menu can be sublime. However, the food is mediocre (not bad!) and pretentious. The flavors were not fully achieved, so the wine was actually the "highlight"... this is a missed opportunity. We were well received with a group of 4 on Friday evening and that was no problem at all. That is nice and refreshing by Amsterdam standards.

Highly recommend “oeuf smoked mayonnaise with fried capers” & “risotto with peas, green asparagus and feta”. It is the best vegan meal I have ever had!!! (But we wait for an hour to get our meal 🥲)

I went twice at Café Beurre and I daresay I might leave it here. We had to wait more than 1h30 outside for a table inside and they don't serve mains outside. Kitchen service for food was really slow. Randomly the table of guys after us went inside before us. Overpriced and plates are very small, hardly is French Cuisine.

Lovely and great. Great menu that keeps updating, great wine selection with changing wine by the glass. Fully vegetarian.

The little sharing dishes tasted good, but are for super small eaters. I'm not a big eater and this is very little. Serve vegetarian with a view to making a lot of profit. Bread is not served .... if you want to dip in the butter sauces. The suggestion is to order a toast. For the ladies' toilet, you first have to pass the urinal in a small room and lighting is using a tea wax candle. Atmospheric? Depends what you like. Personally, not worth repeating even though it tasted good

You can’t miss this place ! The food is delicious, the flavors and perfect portions. The atmosphere is super cozy and relaxed... the staff young, friendly and kind: It is the perfect combination of relaxed but refined, romantic atmosphere. to go with your date, partner, friends .... You don’t need reservation which is also great! Just walk in

A solid 7.5. The food is really good, lovely and creative (vegetarian!) menu. The toasted bread with butter tastes like heaven, yummm 10/10!! There’s an extensive wine list and a nice (alcohol) free cider. The food is definitely well prepared and tasteful. Unfortunately I have to say there are some things I didn’t like as much and therefore not a 10/10 for me. For one, some of the dishes seem a bit too pricy. A few slices of radish with butter for €5,5. Definitely lovely to look at, but basically not much and also not that special. Also the egg dish seems a bit on the steep side price wise as well (even though very tasty). The potato millefeuille was slightly over-fried, could taste a bit of a burned note, too bad. The fig dish seems a bit out of place for winter, not in season and the mouthfeel of the dish was a bit ‘ick’. The ricotta cream was grainy and overall the flavors just don’t seem to match. The King Boleten mushroom dish was nice but the sauce of Madeira was VERY overpowering. The biggest negative for me though was the ambiance. They were playing loud rap (?!?) music in the restaurant. And mind you that the restaurant is quite small and has a big speaker hanging in every corner. Like why… I guess some people don’t mind but when I go to dinner I prefer to be able to talk to my partner and like my music relaxed and in the background. But I guess that’s different for everybody. All in all, food was good, some points of improvement could make it great. Based on the overall ambiance and experience I will not be returning here.

Nachtje Amsterdam met een vriendin geboekt. Zij eet vegetarisch en daardoor hier uit gekomen. Heel erg verrast! Super vriendelijk personeel en heerlijk eten. Ze nemen geen reserveringen aan, maar er is bijna altijd plek. Wij hebben eerst buiten een wijntje gedronken. Dikke aanrader
