The service was unpleasant. At empty tables the service wanted to force us to order drinks for everyone explaining that it was a small bar and everyone had to order. We lost our desire to drink beer here...

I went here tonight, and I loved it so much. Both the place and the man behind the bar just radiate so much charm, warmth, and kindness. Thank you!

Café De Dokter in Amsterdam was honestly one of the worst I've had. The place was shockingly dirty — there were dust clumps everywhere, even in plain sight, which makes you wonder how long it's been since the place was cleaned properly. Ffs, move your fat asses and clean the place instead of swallowing chunks of meat and cheese along with shots of appetizers (as if they need). Disgusting place. To make matters worse, the staff was incredibly rude. From the moment we walked in, we were told — more than once — that we had to order something, as if we had come in just to sit and stare at the dust. It wasn’t said politely either; the tone was pushy and unwelcoming. I understand that it's a small and historic place, but basic cleanliness and respect for customers shouldn't be optional. Definitely not a place I’d return to or recommend.

This is a place that you don't want to share with everyone, but actually with no one. It should never get too busy here. Great place, lovely owners and great jazz music make this for me the best bar for a beer, good conversation and a fantastic evening. every time.

What a nice evening we had here! The owners are incredibly friendly and visibly passionate about their business. They were happy to help us choose a number of tasty whiskies, after we had of course first drunk a 'doctor's prescription' (old gin). Oh and the smoked beef sausage is also recommended.

Fab-ulous had a ginger & liquorice g&t it was very tasty made with real ginger& liquorice bark . The cafe has a lovely atmosphere & I believe it 😁 s the smallest in Amsterdam its a cocophony of collectables. A real gem

Very beautiful but it's small, you better go early to get a place. Vibe was so pleasing.

The hospitality of the couple who are also owners of the café is extremely pleasant. The choice of beers, gins and jenevers is very large and they are happy to help you make a choice. The atmosphere and decoration in this tiny café is incredibly atmospheric. You just imagine yourself 150 years back in time. To my knowledge, no meals are served, but the traditional cubes of cheese and beef sausage were of good quality and very tasty.

Is it possible to decorate with spider webs? It already happened, ceilings-chandeliers etc. It's full of spider webs. There is no room for 10 people, it is that narrow and small. The prices are also high, I do not recommend it, therefore it is not spacious. There is no food, because there is no kitchen because it is narrow. Nothing but cheese plate and sausage.

Magnificent and magical. A café with sumptuous and charismatic decor, run by a great lady, special ambiance and atmosphere guaranteed! This is what we call a real “brown coffee”

Owners, instead of sitting in a corner swallowing chunks of meat and appetizers, move your asses and, for God's sake, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the clumps of dust covering the ceiling and surroundings. The place is a health hazard. I’m not even mentioning the sink, which apparently is a common practice here in Netherlands, instead of using an industrial under-the-counter dishwasher. All the glasses are simply rinsed. disgusting, old, dust covered place. It actually snowed inside with a small clump falling below.

A completely unique experience- we did a brown bar crawl and this one topped the list for atmosphere. The beer and jenever “kopstootje” combo was excellent. Just a delightful stop.

The oldest café in Amsterdam. Decades of dust hangs on the lamps. You have to see it! Very tiny inside, 2 tables outside. Nice older lady behind the counter. Good range of drinks, small bites for big appetites. It doesn't have many opening hours, so you should find out about it beforehand.

What an amazing spot! A nice find with friendly staff. The atmosphere is cool and inviting; I could spend all day here. Highly recommend!

Very cosy place in the center of the city. It has tables outside but it is worth entering inside just to see its inside which is very atmospheric. The staff is also very nice and friendly. The beer selection is pretty nice for a company with different tastes. There is also a choice of tasty alcohol free beers.

This little cafe is beautiful, as is the alley it is located in. We had a cocktail and a beer there which were very good. The manager of the place is very friendly.

Absolutely, it’s a one-of-a-kind spot! Always our must stop in Amsterdam. Also a big fan of the owner’s direct approach: it's a cozy spot, so if you're in, grab a drink or make room. That's just how it rolls.

Lovely original bar. Husband & wife team make sure that everyone has a seat and everyone has a drink. Really enjoyed the visit here. If you are looking for an authentic ambience, then this is the place to be

Very nice place with very good service. Place to go for a casual drink. You feel like a Harry Potterish ambiance there. Basic food plates (cheese or smoked sausage) that goes well either the drinks… I really liked it and it was not crowded by tourists. Mainly local crowd.

Kwalitatief goede bieren. (Beetje aan de weinige kant vond ik persoonlijk. Ongeveer 12 à 15 bieren) Service was erg goed, veel persoonlijk contact en de eigenaren kwamen altijd met een lach naar de tafel. Ietsjes aan de krappe kant, maar komt naar mijn mening de sfeer ten goede.

Prachtige tent, goede mentaliteit. Er zaten ineens mensen naast me macdonalds te eten op het terras. Er werd netjes gezegd dat dit niet de bedoeling is. En verzocht om weg te gaan. Aan de bar altijd goede gesprekken en leuke mensen. Echt zoals een café hoort te zijn.

De Dokter is a historic café in Amsterdam, founded in 1798 by a surgeon from whom it takes its name, considered the smallest pub in the city.

The coolest space that I've seen in a while. This pub/bar is the definition of cozy and is well decorated with so many small trinkets on shelves and walls. The drinks are good, the menu is well designed and the owners/bartenders are very friendly.

I read somewhere that it’s 18 sq.m. hall, it definately feels more room - I would say 30 sq.m.! Could be challenging for well-build visitors or anybody who feels unconfortable for spontanios touches (lol). Anyway, love the moody/gloomy vibe and atmosphere!

What a lovely place. The man behind the bar is the hardest working barman I've ever seen, all with a smile too, and the lady who worked there was also warm and very friendly, she recommended us destinations to visit in Amsterdam and helped us decide which jenever to try. Highly recommended.

Gezellig little bar serving up excellent G&T's. The house whiskey and jenever are both nice inexpensive options, and of course the beer selection is also good. For bar snacks, the cheese is served in a generous portion with some pickles, pickled onions, and mustard. It has friendly staff and a very nice ambiance to the space. The bill comes hand written on a prescription paper which is a very nice touch - a modern POS would look alien in this place. Stop by for a tipple and a taste of old Amsterdam.

Absolute Knallerbar, super authentisch. Sehr freundlicher Inhaber, welcher noch selbst hinter der Theke steht. Absolut zu empfehlen und sehr faire Preise für Amsterdam :)
