Too expensive for the normal quality and poor service

We love the food, the authentic ducth pancake. The staff are so lovely and very helpful.

Bad service, one of the drinks never arrived but did get charged. Refuses to serve tap water even when already ordering other drinks.

OK for a small hunger. We had the traditional pea soup and panini. The taste wasn't outstanding, but it was ok. Price-wise, a bit expensive for the portion size. The service was quick. They were mostly friendly, but the grumpy face of one waitress didn't fit at all. Ambience: old but with a certain charm. The toilets (further back you could see into the kitchen) were in the basement. The entire basement (probably including the kitchen) definitely needs to be renovated. With all the broken tiles the whole thing looked very unclean.

Nous avons très bien mangé. L’accueil est agréable et la décoration est super. Les omelettes sont délicieuses ! Seul petit problème, ne pas pouvoir payer en carte bleue. Mais distributeur juste à côté. Est-ce juste un problème occasionnel ou bien récurent ? Donc paiement uniquement en espèces. Dommage

Mixed experience. Waitresses where extremely pushy to try to get the table free again. Owner "hovering around" discussing and pushing Waitresses, not the best relaxed ambience. MISERABLE 200 cc drinks instead of 330. Plenty of better places in Ámsterdam.

Good service, nice place in general Tho, as a tourist I wanted to try the Famous non sweet pancakes Turns out, big mistake Too oily, I understand they didn't want it to stick to the pan But it was just tasting and dripping oil everywhere I should have asked for another dish..

Absolutely amazing! Walked into this restaurant as we needed a toilet and was greeted with such welcome that we stayed and asked for the menu! Jamenica was amazing!

Walked in to this restaurant by accident, and so happy we did! Food was incredible, atmosphere was on point and can not praise Jamenika enough! Never been greeted by a nicer waitress in our lives. 5 stars!

There were three of us there and we wanted to share one tomato soup (tasted okay, but small and €8) and a pizza funghi with additional salami. The result was that we got two pizzas and the announcement was that it was ordered and that is what we paid for! I wanted to offer that we at least pay for the Funghi pizza (without additional salami). After lengthy and sometimes loud discussions, we paid for drinks, tomato soup and a pizza and left. Conclusion: it's better to starve than to go there again

4 euros for a cappuccino from the machine. 10 euros for 2 dry croissants. 14 euros for a pancake. It is even better to buy your own pancake batter at the nearest supermarket. Not recommended!

We stopped in for pannekoeken, because... Amsterdam... cafe... The Amstel was ample and not too expensive, the spinach and goat cheese pannekoeken was not great, frozen spinach (which was crazy as we just came from Noordermarkt). Much better options around.

Wonderful meal, service and atmosphere

The restaurant has a good location and therefore attracts tourists, so it was quite busy. The food was very bad and too expensive. We ate well everywhere in Amsterdam, but there it was bad and not recommended. Too bad!

The waiter was very helpful and friendly, and the chef went out to ask our opinion about the food. They made a small mistake, giving us 2 soups instead of one, so the second one was for free. Also very delicious and pleasant music. I tried Hutspot for the first time and it was simple but tasty!

Enjoyed it that much we returned for lunch another day. Found the staff lovely and food great.

By chance, we ended up at Cafe De Oude Wester. A relaxed café in the Jordaan, at the corner of Prinsengracht/Rozengracht. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff is very friendly. Glad we got there early because not long after, it filled up with (day) tourists. We had a delicious lunch and left happy.

Had a delicious meal, made a reservation and got a great table in the middle! Fast service and very friendly service and owner! After dinner we even had the opportunity to put together our own playlist👌🏻 definitely recommended!

Friendly service, but it is better not to eat here. Microwave stew from Lidl? Steak with salad, also Lidl quality.

Excellent food, most of the young ladies are very customer friendly. With the exception of 1 lady who just barely threw our menus on the table, never once said hello, made eye contact or asked if we liked it when she came to collect our plates. That's a shame because the other ladies are doing a great job. The food is fine, nothing special but just tasty

Everything is average. Not good, not bad. If these are your expectations when you arrive then all will be fine.

So the staff is great, but the food is not good. We had a cheeseburger and vegetarian lasagna and frankly the cheeseburger steak is bad, the taste has nothing to do with beef, the color too and it was dripping with water, the fries filled with oil. The vegetarian lasagna was not very good and was dripping with water and the middle was cold while the edges were burnt, too bad.

We took a moment of rest here during a day of walking through Amsterdam. Just recharge ourselves (and the phone). Ate a delicious salad and had a drink. Nice cozy atmosphere and not too busy.

Unfortunately the prices at €11 for a panini are not justified at all. We were very disappointed about that. The bitterballen at €8.50 for 6 pieces was also very expensive, but they were very tasty. The toilets were shockingly dirty.

Nice location on the corner, we got the chicken fillet special (22€) and it was awesome! Nice staff, friendly and efficient. Dinner special came with a nice garden salad and hot fries. Amstel bier on tap (8€ large)

We stopped in on a whim and we are so glad we did. The service was great and the food was delicious. We loved the Tomato Soup and the pancakes are yummy. A great place to grab a quick meal for a good price.

Me detuve aquí para cenar antes de una visita a la Casa de Ana Frank. Servicio amable, pero la comida era absolutamente promedio. Tuve el pollo satay - salsa de maní promedio, pollo de calidad promedio, papas fritas de calidad promedio. El vino blanco de la casa era mejor que la media. Aprecié la camarera hospitalaria, pero esta no era mi mejor comida en Amsterdam.

Nice food good staff!! Weeks hard

Hier ff op terras gezeten aan de drukke rozengracht maar dat is tot daar aan toe. Maar om voor n (klein) flesje Wieckse rose €7 te vragen is voor ons ff teveel van het goede. Bediening verder goed maar het kan te gek ook. Wij slaan dit de volgende keer over.

After our canal cruise, we ended up here. The best coincidence that could have happened to us. Great staff and incredibly delicious mini pancakes!! Kind regards from the four Germans who enjoyed eating their beer and pancakes 😂🫶🏼

I walked in and was attended to in a polite manner by the young owner. He was very accommodating to my special requests and the food I received was delicious. I had a very pleasant experience with Alan and met his colleague whom I thought would make a great actor in a James Bond movie. They sat and spoke in a friendly manner and had a few laughs. Really made my day. The cafe was very clean and has a really unique vibe that made it feel special. Wonderful service and great people.

Bizarrely overpriced, even for Amsterdam rates

We recently visited Cafe de Oude Wester for a taste of a traditional English breakfast. While the idea was delightful, the execution left us wanting. Firstly, the portion size was underwhelming. The set menu offered a limited selection of drinks – coffee, tea, or beer. We opted for coffee with milk, but were informed that only black coffee was included. With this unexpected restriction, one of us opted for water instead. Disappointingly, we were not informed that water would be a separate charge, nor that the price of the breakfast wouldn't be adjusted to reflect the lack of a beverage. This experience highlighted a concerning lack of flexibility and communication from the staff. We felt a little nickel-and-dimed with the surprise water charge and missed the opportunity to enjoy our coffee as preferred. Finally, the quality of the food itself wasn't impressive, especially considering the rather high price point. Overall, this disappointing experience means we'll likely avoid this place in the future.

Worst experience. On King’s day we wanted to have a cup of coffee and also use the bathroom. We asked before ordering whether we could also you the bathroom without paying extra and standing in line. After having the coffe and paying they told us we have to pay and stand in line. Also extremely rude staff with no intention to solve our problem, just to rip us off (ofc you can only pay in cash)

Bad experience. The staff was not friendly. The dishes are slow to arrive, they are expensive and the quality of the food is low. We ordered savory pancakes and ended up with two pancakes, poorly presented, poorly garnished (poor quality filling, not fresh). Paying €38 for two unfortunate "crepes" and a bottle of water, I don't recommend.

Authentic Dutch food, not bad. The service is good and the food is well priced. The pancakes are recommended, they are delicious. The restaurant is two minutes from the Anne Frank House and the decor is cute.

Not the best experience I could have here. The prices are not in accordance with what you get. Furthermore, there were two cats in the cafe of which my friend was really scared. But unfortunately we did not receive enough attention when we made a complaint. I won’t come back here and won’t recommend this place.

The staff is more than unpleasant😵‍💫. The restaurant was empty but we couldn't sit two at a table of 4. A cheese + bacon pancake for 13.50 was absolutely not worth it. A mini chicken soup for 9.50. Really very expensive all this for the very poor quality. The only positive bridge and a little kindness: 2 black cats who play and let themselves be petted.

Great choice for before or after a canal tour since it is close to their embarkation point. Good food, friendly and helpful people. My group all had some variation of sweet or savory pancake. I had a traditional Dutch meal. Everyone enjoyed their choice. There are.very friendly cats in the place so if you have a cat allergy be aware. We however loved the company.

The service was awful, it was long, they did not let us pay separately and were super rude about it, it was expensive like 17 euros for an overcooked burger and a few fries. They were unwelcoming and impatient.

Spare ribs very bad. Tough and not tasty. The owner enjoyed one too many drinks and was chattering throughout the tent and was not spoken to. Not recommended.

We took the chicken soup, panini, and a crepe . Everything was great but I can recommend the soup without doubt. The service was fast and friendly. The Christmas decoration was great.

Outstanding Dutch pancakes & very helpful service.

The staff are fantastic and very welcoming. The food is pretty good and affordable for breakfast. I had mushroom egg omelet. Only issue is it's a big step if you have a pram or wheelchair and the space can be quite cramped.

This was a great find! The cod dinner was really good... It was served with piping hot French fries and a nice salad. The goulash was served with rice and a salad and received rave reviews! We also had 2 glasses of the white wine. The service was great and the atmosphere was very comfortable!

There's a beautiful view of the city, it's in the corner so you can see more. The food is amazing, the beer is exquisite. The service is extremely fast and the people there are decent enough. It has restrooms. It's a few blocks away from the Anne Frank house and the statue too.

This food tastes like it’s made by someone who has never cooked. Or eaten food. The pizza was chewy and tough, the fish in the fish and chips tasted like it had been sitting around and the spaghetti bolognese was filled with celery. On the wall was written “Dutch Cousine,” which seemed to be intended to say “Dutch Food” in French but in fact says “Dutch Cousin.” We are here because we were with kids who wanted both pizza and other options, which they did in fact have but gosh was it bad. AND… you have to pay a euro to use the toilet!
