Café de Oude Wester in Jordaan

Traveling through Europe and having not eaten anything that felt like home cooking, I went into this place without much research, I just walked in and I honestly don't regret it. I had a lamb stew and it was the most delicious, hot, and home-style food I could have ever eaten. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was family-friendly, and the food was top-notch. I would definitely go back.

Tourist trap. Bottle of water €9.50. Avoid.

The food is very mediocre. Pizza is worse than the store. Bifstroganov is served with rice and iceberg lettuce. Very strange.

They wouldn't let us have a coffee even though there was plenty of space.

I wonder if the dude working here used this restaurant as a cover for something else? Food was ok: pea soup, bitterballen, few other traditional Dutch cuisine. Service was the least friendly we had in all of Amsterdam.

Yesterday, it was raining and we were hungry, so we thought we'd just pop in. The staff wasn't very friendly, but it was okay. A croquette sandwich for €9.50 might be a bit pricey, but you can expect something, which is ridiculous. My friend's panini would be better off getting a sandwich to go at Albert Heijn. The toilet was also absolutely filthy. We'll never be back; I hope the owner does something about it!

Nice cafe in a lovely location. Drink prices are high. The food isn't great; the beef stew isn't exactly worthy of its name: meat and coarsely ground onions in a thin sauce. It's a shame about this beautiful, yet not so difficult dish.

It's a 100% local, family-run restaurant. The food was delicious; we ordered lamb stew, pasta carbonara, and pasta Bolognese. Reasonable prices.

A beautiful, large, and delightfully "old-fashioned" restaurant with a (good and varied) menu for the entire day, from breakfast to dinner. We had (tender) meat dishes (goulash and stroganoff, with rice and salad, and a banana ice cream sundae for dessert). Tasty and generous portions, served by attentive, friendly, and efficient staff. Authentic, old-fashioned goodness without any fuss. Highly recommended; we'll definitely be back.

7 euros for a chocolate milk. They are not good

The pancakes tasted okay, but €17 is quite expensive for one with spinach and a little goat's cheese. It's outrageous to charge €5 for a 0.2 liter of Fanta.

The Location ist very nice, and the Flair was ok, but for 18,50€ for pancaces with strawberrys and Vanilla ice cream, i'd expect more than marbelsirup in a plastic package from a store close by and some strawberrys. To top that of, the pancace was backed in the plate from the microwave. Over al I think that this store ist a Tourist trap.

The worst place I have ever been in the Netherlands so far. Bad service. Smelly toilet. Not good food at all. The only pro is that is open until late, which is rare in the Netherlands, specially on a Sunday. Stay away from here.

Easily among the worst bitterballen I’ve ever had — either the oil was ancient or they’d been through the fryer twice. Add overpriced beers to the mix, and you’ve got the full tourist-trap experience. The Anne Frank Huis may be worth visiting, but this place isn’t. The service wasn’t really the friendliest as well.

The service was disappointing. The staff member who helped us was very rude and didn’t explain the menu properly—for example, whether dishes contained pepper or other ingredients. The food itself was not good either. Overall, I would not recommend this place.

A truly excellent restaurant. We ate a banana-chocolate crepe like we've never had anywhere else, and a truly delicious pizza. A must-try. The staff is very friendly and attentive to their customers.

Good food, definitely try the hutspot

Everything was delicious. We went to try the typical Dutch dishes, which are these two dishes, and they were delicious.

No eye for kindness. Mint tea is two sprigs of mint and that's it. 6 euros. Please!

The fish was cold and raw. The vegetables were frozen. Our glasses weren't washed properly. Payment is only possible with cash or card. The portions are far too small for the price.

Super sweet staff and delicious food

Ordered a cup of tea here during Pride. The hot water was served in paper office cups, with nothing but the cheapest supermarket tea. 4 Euro per person for that nonsense. A few minutes later the bill was shoved onto our table without so much as a word. Customers sitting outside who asked to use the bathroom were straight up told that they had to get in line for it at the front door, together with the people waiting to be seated. All the while, some stranger with a polaroid camera was going around the tables trying to sell pictures, and staff did nothing to make him leave. Rude, weird and profoundly uncomfortable.

I came to this restaurant to order some food, but, the service was awful and they gave us a plate that wasn't ordered, unrespectful and didn't recognize their mistakes. So expensive, and the quality food was bad

We decided on Cafe de Oude Wester due to the variety on the menu. Our party ended up mostly having pancakes. I decided on the Spicy Chicken and my wife got the Hawaiian. Both of us felt it was good but missed that wow factor. The place is nice and clean and quiet although it was a Tuesday afternoon. Cant go wrong here for food at a reasonable price.

This is an old pub style restaurant which was staffed only by the bartender when we went for an early dinner. He was great at multitasking and took care of the few early diners well. Food was good and prices were reasonable.

The music is great. The Hachee is amazing; the gravy😋😋. The pancakes are great!

I walked past this place and went in. It's a huge place, the atmosphere is great, not stuffy at all, and the owner is a super nice guy. I had a great meal, drinks, and lots of laughs. I'll definitely be back, thanks for a great evening, Mayk.

The food is okay, but not at these prices. €23 for a chicken fillet, €12 for a pancake. The drink prices are the highest I've ever seen (e.g., €5 for a 0.2l Coke). The service is okay, although the atmosphere is a bit unprofessional for the price range (the one star for service refers to the prices). Overall, unfortunately, the value for money is not at all right.

Margarrhita pizza was frozen pizza. Sauce and cheese were low quality. Had arugula instead of basil and no oregano. Garlic toast was bland. Place was outdated.

We went late at night to get some coffee and ordered some cappuccino. Most of the places weren't serving coffee that late, but they did in Oude Wester Café so it was a warm experience on a very cold night. The ambience is great, the decorations are cool, the waiter was super kind. And it's near the Anne Frank House so if you wanna take some minutes to relax in the middle of a walk, go to Oude Wester!

You must buy the ticket well in advance.

Told we were too early for an Anne Frank House visit. We popped in here for drinks and had a lovely meal together afterwards. They kindly held our order as we visited. Really friendly, welcoming and nice food. Thank you

Today I stopped by Café d’Oude Wester, a small café located on the corner opposite Westertoren, one of Amsterdam’s most important landmarks. The atmosphere of the café is full of vintage charm, warmth, and plenty of natural light. What impressed me most was the coffee corner by the bridge over the canal in front of the shop. The view here is like something out of a postcard. I ordered a cup of hot coffee and a glass of fresh orange juice and sat watching people go by under the shadow of the elegant Westertoren tower. The faint sound of the church bells added to the atmosphere, making it feel like something out of a classic European movie. The drinks are of good quality, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable compared to a premium location like this. It’s perfect for those who want to take a break, take a deep breath, and truly absorb the spirit of Amsterdam. I recommend sitting at a table by the canal, enjoying the gentle sun and cool breeze, and letting time pass slowly – just like everything else in this city.

Mi hija adulta y yo comimos aquí una tarde de la semana pasada. Había hecho una reserva, pero era totalmente innecesario. Me gustó la decoración y la ubicación. Los servidores no eran demasiado amables y la comida estaba bien. Estaba bien para lo que estábamos buscando, pero podría haber sido mejor. Teníamos pizza Marguerita y una tortilla (que estaba bastante cocinada)

A wonderful cafe with lovely vintage character, I had the ham cheese and mushroom omelette which was fantastic, I would happily go back here.

Our order was beef stroganoff, but they mistakenly brought us goulash and insisted that it was beef stroganoff. The receipt also listed it as goulash.

Never go there! The setting and location of the restaurant might make you want to go there, but it's not edible at all, it's not defrosted and it's dangerous to your health.

Little place but great food. Lamp chops were awesome. Worth a try.

We ordered a dish that came with coffee – the coffee arrived quickly, but we waited 55 minutes for the food. Staff ignored us when we tried to get their attention, even though it was obvious to everyone around. When I approached a waitress to express my concern, she didn’t understand English at all. No one explained the delay. Other guests faced the same issue – some were even yelled at and threatened with the police. We were never warned about the wait time. Absolutely unacceptable service.

Goed om wat te drinken maar niet om te eten helaas. We hadden gekookte en gebakken mosselen, waren helemaal stuk gekookt en smakeloos en de gebakken mosselen zaten in een ketjap sausje en waren niet lekker. Helaas een slechte ervaring zonde van je geld.

Restaurant with variety of food. We ordered local food and it was pretty good. Tasty and well made.

To flee! They don't even know how to make a simple burger, the meat, fries, salad, tomato had a disastrous taste and smell €17 for a frozen and poorly defrosted burger!

Great early afternoon stop for Irish Coffee!

A honest option for dinner if you are close to Anne Frank museum. The soup was a bit disappointing because tasted like those artificial ones. However, the bolognese pasta was good.

Warm place. Atypical decoration. We feel at home. We ate there at midday and had coffee around 3 p.m. The two moments spent were very pleasant. Top service and quality products. We recommend! THANKS

Avoid! The setting makes you want to settle in but the dishes are at best tasteless or even bad (we're talking about hamburgers, kroket, fries, etc.). And then all of this is very expensive for the quality offered. The service is friendly but not very efficient. Certainly a place that benefits from its geographical proximity to the Anne Frank House. So flee.

Highly recommended place to have a good time chatting...very good music and the place is decorated very well.

Walked in here due to an emergency. The staff is a rude, ragtag bunch. I have no idea what kind of food, because we turned around and ran away, but what was on the plates looked like tourist food. There is a lot of fun to be found a little further along the Jordaan.

Oude Wester is a fairly spacious and comfortable restaurant, located very close to Anne Frank, on the River side, typical Dutch with beautiful decoration. We went for breakfast, it is a good option because of the variety of dishes, pancakes, eggs, omelettes, coffee, and good-sized juices. 5/5 The decoration (we went in December) is beautiful, I don't know if it stays this way the rest of the year but it is very cozy and with a pleasant musical atmosphere. Regarding the attention, nothing particular, they lack a little emotion to serve tourists since I assume it is their largest clientele.

Lovely little corner Cafe restaurant near the Ann Frank House. Sit by a window if you can, to watch the people going by and enjoy the view. We loved it so much we went twice! Had the best peppermint tea, croissants and jam, crepes, chicken soup and ice cream. Lovely and cozy atmosphere. The owners are wonderful.

OK for a small hunger. We had the traditional pea soup and panini. The taste wasn't outstanding, but it was ok. Price-wise, a bit expensive for the portion size. The service was quick. They were mostly friendly, but the grumpy face of one waitress didn't fit at all. Ambience: old but with a certain charm. The toilets (further back you could see into the kitchen) were in the basement. The entire basement (probably including the kitchen) definitely needs to be renovated. With all the broken tiles the whole thing looked very unclean.

Mixed experience. Waitresses where extremely pushy to try to get the table free again. Owner "hovering around" discussing and pushing Waitresses, not the best relaxed ambience. MISERABLE 200 cc drinks instead of 330. Plenty of better places in Ámsterdam.
