Cozy place for a bite and a drink

The food was okay, but the steak could have been better. We ordered a bottle of 0.0% prosecco; the price of a regular prosecco was €35. Ridiculous, of course, especially since I had to refill it myself all evening. The toilets need more attention... they were filthy. And it really wasn't that busy... We didn't feel very welcome.

Terrible. 8pm on a Sunday and we wanted to try this place and have a drink. The restaurant is empty and the waiter, maybe the owner, said we can't have drinks as he is only serving dinner. I guess we are not coming for breakfast. He flat dry rudely refused us.

I ordered the sweet pepper soup, which was delicious. I also ordered lasagna, but the portion was small for two people. The place is beautiful, and the staff are friendly.

I dined here, and both my company and I had a lovely evening. The food was very tasty, and the wine was delicious too. The menu isn't very extensive, but it offers enough choice, ensuring there is something tasty for everyone. The service was friendly and welcoming. Additionally, there is a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, and you don't feel rushed. All in all, we had a great meal and it is definitely recommended!

The food was incredibly tasty, but the service was so-so. It took well over forty minutes from the moment we sat down at the table before someone finally came to take our first drink order. The place wasn't packed, by the way; including us, there were 5 occupied tables. Also, one of the staff members stood smoking next to the front door several times, meaning we had to endure the smell of smoke inside. All in all, a pleasant evening with great food, but service that left something to be desired.

Beautiful and calm restaurant with excellent service. We ordered the Gambia’s Grilled Shrimp and the Soup of the Week (Sweet Peppers), and both were delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were very welcoming. Highly recommended.

The place itself is charming and nice. However, the service felt as you entered a stranger’s house and demanded something from them. The place was empty, but sitting arrangement for large group become toxic and passive-aggressive issue. The snacks preparations took nearly 35 mins. Maybe I was just unlucky, or used to other standards. But this is an honest review.

The food was mediocre, I ordered my steak medium-rare, but it came out completely overcooked and tough. What’s worse, I was charged the full price of a tea just for a hot water refill, even though no fresh honey or biscuits were provided.

Lovely place for a brunch. The mustard soup is a must try. Also their IPA beer is amazing.

The sandwich was ok not super tasty. The bread is good but not a focaccia as advertised. I was expecting pieces of actual chicken not sliced meat. The place is clean and really close to the touristy area. It is a convenient spot tor a quick bite. The wifi was down they did not even try to fixed when we ask for it.

When we arrived as a group of nine and said we would only like to have coffee, the waiter told us that he was alone and couldn’t serve us. Even though there were hardly any customers—the place was about 90% empty—would nine coffees really have been such a big problem? We didn’t understand, but we accepted it and then asked if we could use the restroom. The waiter said it would cost 1 euro per person. On top of that, it was my friend’s wife—who is pregnant—who asked about using the restroom. To sum it up: on a Tuesday, with the place 90% empty, serving nine coffees is already too much? And even though we said we would consume something, the restroom still costs 1 euro per person? Even for a pregnant woman? Are they making a living from restroom fees or as a restaurant? I’m sure their food is delicious, so I didn’t rate it, but the service and kindness deserve a -1.

The food was a huge surprise; it was delicious. The service was incredible; the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back to this place again and again. It feels so much like home.

We had a high tea via scldeals. Very friendly service and a beautiful location. We were the only ones seated in the small front room and it was very cold there, partly because the door kept opening and closing. The high tea was satisfactory, but otherwise not very special. Unfortunately, there were traces of sesame in the hummus, and because I am allergic to that, I got a very stuffy mouth. The brownie and the soup were delicious, the rest wasn't special, for example, no fresh whipped cream but a spray can; a missed opportunity! The cappuccino and the Spritz Elder Flower were very good! We had a pleasant afternoon, but not a second time for us.

Some English people arrived before us at 3:45 pm and they were allowed to eat. We arrived right behind them, before they had even sat down, and because we were Spanish, as if they didn't understand the language, they told us it was closed.

A very welcoming place with attention to detail! Various options to choose from: hot dishes, focaccia, snacks to share... the desserts are also delicious. Friendly and professional staff, really pleasant background music. Overall, beautiful, a peaceful place to retreat to after visiting Zaanse. If I could give more stars, I would. ♡♡♡

Really unkind people. We were going to have lunch here but as a lady from hours of travelling, I desperately needed to use the bathroom first. When I came out a man called me over and told me off for using it without permission, and I tried to explain we were going to get something after, he said “No you weren’t.” I insistent again and he said “no you’re not as your companion is still waiting for you by the door”. My companion was only waiting for me so we could decided where we are going to sit or if we only wanted to get a takeaway drink but because of his tone and attitude, we decided not to argue and take our leave. It was very hostile and rude people that need to give people some grace for doing very human things, I would’ve been happy to apologise if he wasn’t soo condescending and was a nicer person overall. Theres a lot of comments about being unwelcoming towards non-white people so maybe this is the case as I’m a British- Asian.

I went here for brunch to take a break before visiting Zansers Hans. I heard Zansers Hans is famous for its mustard, so I ordered the mustard soup and bitterballen, which I hadn't tried before. It was a novel experience to eat while looking at the windmill right in front, and the food was delicious. The bitterballen itself is a bit salty, making it the perfect beer snack.

Café de Slager — Wonderful Food and Even More Wonderful People We had lunch at Café de Slager, and everything about the experience was lovely — the food was clean, fresh, and delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. But what truly set this café apart was not just the meal, but the people behind it. The night before our lunch, we actually came by the café late at night, around 11 PM, in the rain, when we were having trouble checking in to a nearby hotel. Even though the café had already closed, all the staff — who were clearly on their break — stood up and kindly offered to help in every way they could. They offered us food and drinks, tried calling the hotel on our behalf, and used their Dutch mobile phones to help us communicate since we didn’t have one. We didn’t get the names of those kind-hearted people, but we especially want to thank the lady in orange, who we were told is the owner’s wife. Her warmth and generosity turned what could have been a stressful night into a moment of comfort and humanity. We returned the next day for lunch, and everything was perfect — the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Good people deserve good things, and Café de Slager is full of them. For anyone reading this, you deserve good food and great service — and you’ll find both here. To all the amazing café staff: you deserve 10 stars!

We had a wonderful experience here! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the Confit Duck Leg. My daughter accidentally dropped her chocolate drink, and the server kindly cleaned it up and even brought her a new one. Such thoughtful service made our meal even more enjoyable!

The place is cute and very welcoming, with a Northern European mountain feel. However, the food is subpar and poorly cooked. We asked for a cheese platter and got a huge platter with lots of decorative chains and fried things, and literally four little pieces of cheese. It also said it was served with ham, and we got smoked salmon, but that was fine. We had the green pepper beef, but it was so tough to chew, served with lettuce and onions... The only good thing was the wine, as they have a fairly wide selection. The service is very friendly; the girls who served us were super helpful and nice. Overall, they should improve the quality of the food.

The food was very good, although some portions were a bit small depending on the dish chosen (I also rate it based on the price). The vegan lasagna was delicious. Congratulations! I think they need to improve the waiting time. In our case, it took 40 minutes to serve us, which is why I gave it a low rating. The person who served us was very friendly, which makes up for it. Fortunately, the food was very good.

The three of us went out for dinner, but it was a disappointment. We waited far too long, were given tough meat, and even the wrong wine. The waitress was snappy, and the owner stood angrily behind the bar. The whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. Literally and figuratively.

I chose a burger from the lunch menu. The burger was a regular handmade burger, with a unique color for the bun. The beer was a special edition, something called orange, but I can't remember the exact name. Judging by the wait that started after I went in, I think it's best to go before 12:30 on weekends. It seems like after 12:30, there's a sudden surge of people heading back to Amsterdam for lunch. The taste exceeded my expectations.

We were disappointed by the welcome. Two waitresses received us in a rather nonchalant way, without a smile or real attention. At first, we were told we could only sit around the bar. When we asked if we could sit outside, they said yes, but didn’t even offer to clean the table or the chairs, which were still a bit wet. This creates a poor first impression and does not make us want to return, despite the interest we might have had in the restaurant.

I am extremely satisfied with this place. The bartender woman was so patient, kind and proffesional, the food was really great (especialle the croquettes and the salmon tartar). Also the strawberry cake is delicious. The restaurant offers a calm and cozy shelter for a rainy day. Totally recommended.

Did look forward to a great pepper steak with fries and wine. The service before eating was fine. No probs. Asked for a rare steak and had a well done small small piece of meat. Fries was lefties from til plastic bag and not eatable. Asked for new ones and it was a little better. Did tell staff that fries were not good but I don’t think they understood. Don’t do steaks if you don’t know how to.

What a beautiful idyllic location. Very nicely laid out and decorated, pure old Dutch glory. We immediately felt welcome in the Zaanstreek towards the Zaanse Schans. That was certainly enjoyable on the terrace. They have an extensive menu for lunch and the cappuccino/coffee were very tasty. This allowed us to recharge from our long journey in a very pleasant way. The service was friendly and attentive, they also deserve a big compliment. We would like to come back again on a next visit to this region.

This place definitely discriminates non-white people. We walk in to the place for dinner on a Tuesday and they have plenty of space, but they say they don't have space for us while they serve all white customers. Not recommend for any non-white travellers!

We are tourists and wanted to have dinner at the restaurant. There were still many empty tables inside and outside but we were refused even though there were only 2 adults and 1 child. They said tables were all booked but i believe that was a big lie because it was almost 7pm on a normal wednesday and the restaurant was not really crowded. They don't even deserve 1 star

I tried bitterballen elsewhere and thought it was bad.. The best food I ate in the Netherlands.. It goes so well with beer. You should definitely try BEER TASTING..

We took the chef's 5-course surprise menu and tasted, surprise after surprise, intelligently thought-out dishes, traditional French recipes with identifiable local notes that go together perfectly! The wine pairings were perfect, meeting our expectations and allowing us to travel, an exceptional Rioja and a Californian chardonnay which was a powerful discovery. This menu ended with a revisited strawberry tart, my favorite dessert! We couldn't hope for better to spend an exceptional evening in an authentic and warm setting with attentive staff! We visited this place in begining of April. Insite there was free tabels but it have been told to us that all is booke. Tharofore we sit outside. We order6 fries, 6 tees and 3 other bites. We just recived fries, tees and one meal. After 30 minutes waiting we decided to cancel the rest and asked for bill. We was very surpriesed that there was all meals on the bill. The staff tried to convince that we recieved all. After unpolite argumentation he was willing to removed one meal from the bill. We was tired to continue to figt therfore in the end we stil have to pay for what we didnt get. This is very unprofesional. We highly do not recomend to go here mainly because of one realy arogant employee.
