Great atmosphere and fantastic food. The only criticism is the salt content of the lamb kebab. Otherwise, a really nice place.

We had a really great meal here.

One of my favorites in Nijmegen. The menu never fails to amaze. Besides open wines, they have an extensive wine list with a wide selection of natural wines. In short, highly recommended!

The dishes are creative and feature seasonal ingredients. However, two pieces of lamb kebab with two spoonfuls of sauce and some vegetables isn't exactly typical for a price of €30. And that was true for many other dishes. Furthermore, the chef favored more acidic flavors, which were overpowering in some dishes. A pleasant experience, but we won't be back.

Café Klein is an amazing place to discover new flavours. Cosy space, nice service and excellent food. Do not hesitate to order the spitkool (10/10).

First, the good news: the food is fine. Nothing special (just a pate or a steak tartare would do), but it is tasty and beautifully presented. The menu is rather limited: there's little choice. The waitstaff couldn't tell you whether it was shared dining or not. It would be best to just choose the chef's menu; then everything would be fine. But if you don't fancy a 5 or 6-course meal, what then? The option—as we're used to in Spain—we order what we fancy, put everything on the table at once, and then we get started—wasn't an option. First, a bottle of Cava. Unfortunately, it wasn't chilled. Once opened, it went into a cooler, but unfortunately, it ended up behind the bar. And then you're served: forced happiness, especially when the waitstaff refills someone in the party who isn't part of the Cava, and the full glass disappears behind the bar. The rosé and white wine weren't (sufficiently) chilled either. Where are we? At Café Klein. It lives up to its name: small and close together. Luckily, we were seated at the front of the room with natural light and air. We did get a bit of a buzz at the bar, especially when a group of pub crawlers came in for a shot. A bit of bad luck, but still. Everyone's very close together, and that's something you have to appreciate. The acoustics have been taken into account, but unfortunately, someone decided it's a good idea to constantly treat the guests to music at a fairly high volume. Why? Some people want to chat at their tables, and that doesn't make things any easier. Finally, the bill: over 400 euros for 6 people. Whether you consider that a lot, a little, or appropriate depends on many factors. Also good to know: a third of that amount was for drinks (water, a bottle of Cava, and wine).

Lovely bistro with very friendly staff! The three of us had a reservation and were given a table in the second section, which was quite warm. When we asked if there wasn't a slightly cooler spot, we were immediately moved to another table, which was very pleasant. The food is delicious; we had the 5-course surprise menu (shared dining) with dishes including fish, pointed cabbage, and lamb. One star less, however, because the wines are mostly natural, and I didn't think the dessert was that great either.

Rarely have we had such a bad meal. We started with oysters, which were good. After that, things went downhill rapidly. The tartare on toast was decent, but the sauce was the main draw. The tartare itself was tasteless. Then we had pasta filled with goat cheese and morel sauce. Completely out of balance. The goat cheese exploded over everything, drowning out the flavor of the morels. Sea bream with buttermilk, strawberry, and rhubarb. It tasted most like sea bream doused in Fristi. We followed with lamb kebab. Three slices were poorly presented in a pool of tomato and vanilla sauce. The balance was completely off again. The shawarma shop at the end of the street easily rivals this. The other dish consisted of prawns, a shrimp croquette, and langoustine. The prawns were barbecued and tasteless and had to be seasoned with a bisque that was far too hot. Absolutely no refinement whatsoever. The langousine lay ruined in a small container with some shriveled peas. The shrimp croquette was crispy, but that was about it. The fries were pitifully placed on a side dish with, how trendy, some shaved cheese on top. Nothing positive to report then? Yes, the service was superb, the atmosphere good, and the wines top-notch.

The food was truly fantastic. The chef truly knows his craft. Beautifully balanced flavors without any frills. Real food!!!

Too high a price for too small portions. Even for table water, they charge €3.00 per person. And that's two 0.15-liter bottles. That's a nice way to make money.

Positively surprised by this little gem in Nijmegen. The food is delicious and above all creative in terms of ingredients and combinations. We especially liked the raw sea bream with strawberry and rhubarb, as well as the excellent pate dish. In summary: atmosphere is great, price quality very solid and food creative. Must visit!

What a disgrace for a restaurant owner! Orders are NOT kept here, so you end up paying DOUBLE for your food and drinks at the end of the evening. Two people in our group have already paid for at least half of our drinks, and these losers then make a third person pay EVERYTHING (90+ euros) again. Scammers! Don't go there!!!

After reading a rave review in the NRC, I went here during a visit to my hometown. What a great place! What a variety of taste sensations that come along with the easily shareable dishes. The entire entourage makes you feel both pampered and at ease. The energetic and dedicated service makes it complete.

We chose the fish and meat menus, which included five dishes. Overall, the food was tasty and of good quality. The wine was excellent. It was a bit pricey, but considering the quality, it was acceptable. The only downside was the interior design, which didn’t quite match the vibe of a high-end restaurant. The bistro napkins were worn out and had holes, and one section of the restaurant floor looked completely different from the rest. A more cohesive and thoughtful design could really be the cherry on top. The staff were friendly, and overall, we had a great experience. Recommended

Creative, innovative, surprising food in an informal setting between restaurant and café. Although there seem to be plenty of tables available, book in advance to be on the safe side.

Had dinner at Café Klein on a Saturday evening. Nice French style decor. Very friendly service that makes contact easy. We had previously taken the chef's menu here, which was very tasty, but then you all get the same. That's why we ordered à la carte this time and shared the dishes together, it was delicious! Highly recommended, we will definitely come back!

I like coming here. The food is always great and the wines are delicious too. The flavors and combinations are special and slightly different. I eat gluten-free myself and that is no problem at Café Klein. Many dishes are gluten-free or can be adapted.

We had the chef's menu. That was 5 courses, but we didn't experience it that way. The first course turned out to be eggs, which were not necessarily very tasty with the tarragon mayonnaise, which we thought was an amuse-bouche. The starters (dorade and leek) were very tasty! The main course (lamb) was a bit tough and not very tasty. Dessert didn't look nice and didn't taste good either. The service was friendly, but there was a long wait for the wine. Atmosphere was fine and appropriate. Red light on the toilet is not appropriate. Unfortunately, in our opinion, not recommended.

Really above expectations, based on the name you expect a small café... but it is a cozy, busy, casual restaurant. Very friendly and spontaneous welcome, we were surprised by the chef's menu: original, unusual, shared food very successful, alone and a photo of the appetizer, then too cozy to always take a photo...

This is not a restaurant, not a bar, but what is? No idea. Maybe a canteen of a sports club? Meal correspondingly: very mediocre, too pricey, but okay, we were able to experience this adventure again, so cross it out.

Have enjoyed it immensely at Café Klein several times. The dishes are well composed, balanced and tasty. We experience the service as exceptional every time.

2nd time eating here. The first time the food was great, surprising and beautiful. Disappointing today. 5 courses from the chef. Not very innovative. Peppers in 2nd and 3rd course (1st snacks...?) but not very spicy. Main 4th course a well flavored chicken leg. Leeks are fine. Cucumber… ? Dessert was fine but again not very exciting. 200 euros with drinks? Too much for food. Service varies. The lady with pictures is brilliant and hospitable who makes your evening. Rest either too junior or uninterested. Shame! Come on!

Unfortunately I didn't get any further than a conversation about a reservation. The employee I spoke to was not customer focused and came across as very blunt. She made me feel like it was strange that I called to make a reservation. I understand a full schedule and that there is no room, but I don't think it's the intention to leave a customer with a bad feeling.

Nice atmosphere, good food and wide choice of natural wines!

Ate here twice: I found the chef's menu disappointing last time, but the last time a la carte was great! Tip: order the bread in advance (from Hotel Karel in Arnhem) and the chardonnay is great, very oily. Sometimes the balance in the flavors is a bit lacking, I especially noticed this with the chef's menu. Namely: On the chef's menu I thought the eggplant bitterbal was bland and lacked a sharp/sour counterpart. I didn't think the chicken leg was anything special and it was especially awkward to eat in such an atmosphere. In the fish starter, the jalapeño was barely present, but it has now been replaced on the menu by sea bream sashimi with a kind of candied orange peel, surprising herbs and a bit of chili and this was a 10/10! Also ordered the steak tartare, gave it a creative spin by serving mini “French fries” on it, nice plate, but this was proportionately too much, so the fried fatty taste dominated compared to the delicious tartare. Here too, a little acidity is allowed as a balance. The main course, the pork tomahawk is everything you want in a piece of meat. I never actually order pork, but I would absolutely recommend it. Sauce also very good. The vegetarian main course with beetroot is very surprising: they dehydrate the beetroot and then rehydrate it with its own beetroot juice, giving you a wine gum-like deep taste and structure: great. Unfortunately we didn't have time for dessert, I didn't like it last time, so we'll have to come back again to give it another chance. In terms of atmosphere, 3 stars because I see what is meant by the sober and hip looks, sleek white tablecloths, waiters with corporate blue aprons, wooden floor, stainless steel panels here and there, but it is too cold. Especially in the back without daylight, I feel a bit like I'm sitting in an unpleasant but very good Italian butcher's shop, picking away at a meat platter among the locals. There could be a little more decoration: there is almost no plant or color to be found. All in all: a nice new restaurant that is clearly developing in the right direction

It wasn't bad, but for the money I expected something more. The dishes are individually interesting, but I expect more coherence in a menu. Same with the wine. Tasty in itself, little added value. There is still untapped potential.

Delicious food with super good service with information about the food and the accompanying drinks. Chef's choice is highly recommended. The atmosphere in the restaurant is also very good.

We went for shared dining with a group of 7 in the stimulus-free space. In the beginning there was noise from the adjacent restaurant, but it gradually became quiet. Chef choice was a culinary experiment: many flavors tantalized the taste buds. It was mainly vegetarian + sauces and a chicken leg as a counterbalance; everything nicely seasoned to the point of being spicy. With each new course we were informed what it was, such as jalapeno, currants, chimichurri, ice cream on brioche bread, etc. Time passed, around 11pm we got up satisfied and waved good night to the waiting staff.

Perhaps something that did not really exist in Nijmegen in this way; good mix between casual atmosphere and seriously good food, bistro style. Nice card, small but nice.

Had dinner at Cafe Klein on Saturday. The food was fine, the service was good. But then the bill came. We wanted to order a 3-course surprise vegetarian menu. The waitress suggested that we could also have a vegetarian option with just the main course of fish. Didn't say that there would be an additional €10. We both had 2 glasses of white wine, the top one and the second on the menu. The receipt showed 2 other wines, which were more expensive. And special to charge €6 for tap water. If our complaint about the error with the wine had been handled smoothly, I would have still thought it was okay. But our comment was questioned ("Are you sure you didn't drink the wine on the receipt?" "I'll check with your waitress tomorrow"). Addition, a few days later: In the end it was handled nicely.

Too bad you have to pay 3 pp for drinking water: it would be a hospitable entrance if water was immediately brought to the table without you finding this on the bill!!

Very tasty meal with the vegetarian shared menu, all special things that you wouldn't make yourself at home, but all equally tasty! In terms of portion compared to the price (38 euros per person), also very good in our opinion, we were really full at the end and had an extensive evening. The wines we had were also very good. Creative recipes and atmosphere. You immediately feel upon entering that this is a place where they use products creatively. The menu is small, which I am always a fan of because that often means that these are the dishes that they can cook really tasty and that was the case this time. The beautiful colors and smells that came from the dishes in combination with the helpful service makes Café Klein distinctive. What is nice is that the price ratio is appropriate. The room is a bit dark at the back, but candles create a cozy atmosphere. If you prefer to sit in a little more daylight, the front is a better place. All in all, highly recommended if you are looking for a location that distinguishes itself through creativity.

Maybe I expected too much... We sat at the very back in a very dark, cramped corner. The lighting was just bad. The first course was ok, bread and nuts (?) the second was great, delicious fish. After that everything was mewoh, the meat was way too fatty. Everything was too little. Shared dining is ok and I don't need huge portions, but this didn't make any sense. Dessert was really small but I thought it was disgusting so that wasn't so bad... Service was fine and so was the wine, but the rest was a huge disappointment. Too bad 😒 (and then pay 75th pp...)

Delicious, extensive and surprising food. We enjoyed at least 7 dishes during the Vegetarian Surprise Menu. With 3 glasses of wine. Wild wines, made from grapes that grow 'outside the vineyard'. All this served by nice, adequate women. It was pleasantly busy and the music was atmospheric. Finally, considering all this, the price wasn't too bad!!

Recently ate at Café Klein for the first time. The food was delicious, surprising combinations and well balanced. Service was attentive and thought along well. In short, worth repeating and highly recommended!

Warm, informal welcome and ditto service. The employees are young, fresh and show their own character. This creates fun interactions during service moments. The dishes are fantastic. Good flavour, interesting and well proportioned. The nice thing about Café Klein is that, despite being full, it still feels quiet. The acoustics are good. In noise, the table partner remains clearly audible.

A bit of a shame, I have a severe allergy, they indicate no problem, but they cannot adhere to it, a pity, the owner of the house, cannot eat anything. My son was eating alone, but if he ordered a lot of wine, this indicates that he can make it happen, then no problem.
