A historic location (it was the headquarters of the West India Company). The place is spacious, pleasant, and serves good food and excellent cocktails.

It was 5 p.m. on Boxing Day, in the freezing cold and with a biting wind, we arrived at the beautiful building and asked if there was room for 10 people. With beaming faces, we were welcomed in, and a large table was set especially for us. The staff did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. The food was fantastic; the Brussels sprouts were unmistakably crunchy, and the steak was perfectly served with a fantastic deep sauce. We would love to come back!

We sat down for a delicious Sunday Roast in this charming venue. Beautiful Christmas decorations and a lovely atmosphere. We were warmly welcomed by the attentive staff. They also offered excellent (wine) recommendations. The Sunday Roast is also highly recommended, generous portions and deliciously prepared. We'll definitely be back for the regular dinner menu.

The place is beautiful and the atmosphere is great, that's it. When we arrived we ordered olives, bread and wine as starters. the host completely forgot so we were waiting for 15-20 minutes for nothing. We were some of the first people there before dinner opened at 18h. we ordered our steak frites right at 18h and they still took 40 minutes to arrive. The steak was perfectly cooked and juicy, but no flavor, it needed salt or something.The bread is good but they give you supermarket butter in a plastic cup, for this price i expect fresh high quality butter not this. the steak portion was SO smalli finished it in 3 bites. for €30 i expected more, i left hungry. if you actually want to have a proper meal don't come here. for a drink and a good atmosphere it's a good option.

I was here on a Breeze date. I thought the place looked very chic and felt underdressed. But the staff didn't mind: I was greeted warmly and even got free table water without asking: fantastic. The staff remembered my name and showed they really appreciated my presence. By far one of the nicest places in Amsterdam!

Beautiful ambiance and food. I recommend. However, I found the service a bit disorganized and pushy. I was eating alone and was attended by two persons, which created confusion, as I would be asked for my order by one two minutes after having given my order to another. Other than that, i order the fish, which I thought was excellent, and the steak frites at the table next to me seemed great too.

Great atmosphere, love the design and feel. They were busy, service was ok, bit hectic and rushed. Food was ok. Menu choices bit limited. Portions not huge - steak and chips was literally that. If you’re hungry, order 2 🤣

Great service, came for a gift certificate on a busy Friday evening. I was helped by Emiel, who, despite the busy schedule and not having a gift certificate, creatively came up with something. Absolutely fantastic!

Myself and coworkers came here for a meeting with out of town colleagues. The staff was attentive, the food delicious and very fairly priced. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance of elegant but not posh. Lively, spacious interior. Great selection of drinks and cocktails. Perfect for a date night, work dinner, or group outing (many options for larger groups).

Super nice and cozy decorated, we went for desserts and coffee after dinner elsewhere, we liked it very much, service was also top notch.

It's my 2nd time coming here. This time I had the Sunday Roast. The flavor was okay. I think it wasn't that much food for 2 persons considering we paid about 64 euros for dish. Wine was nice and service was good. I don't know why they didn't put linen on the table of 2 as well, they had it only on the 4 people tables.

Awful experience. Waiter lady was super rude, they were not able to accommodate a simple request : not adding spicy mayo on a cheese sandwich for my 4-year old kid. I said thanks and left without having lunch.

My favourite place that I ate on my trip to Amsterdam! We stopped by for some drinks with friends and ended up staying for some food in the evening. The food was great, bitterballen (from Café Nieuw specifically) might be my new favourite snack and, the location was great, super relaxed and the service was wonderful, Julia has the most brilliant energy and totally brought the vibe. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Amsterdam 💛

Had the croque madame, gotta say it was a bit too cheesy. Fries were honestly very nice. The tartar was a bit too salty

Great spot for a casual dinner, especially if you can snag a table streetside. Service was great - attentive enough that we were never waiting. The cocktails are average - nothing very special or inventive. Tried the elderflower spritz. It's on the sweeter side but still good. Food was nice. The fish of the day was monkfish and it was very tender with great flavors. Checkout this place if you're in the area!

Ended up here as the end of a celebration for a relative. The atmosphere was very nice, the bar staff were very nice and the drinks were very good.

We dined al fresco in the charming back courtyard with our two kids (ages 8 and 9), and while the restaurant doesn’t offer a kids’ menu, the staff was incredibly warm and accommodating. We started with the asparagus appetizer featuring oyster mushrooms and XO sauce—a creative twist on the classic that completely stole the show. It was so good, we kept the plate at the table just to keep tasting and guessing the ingredients (our best guess: butter, Worcestershire sauce, and a hint of lemon?). Chef—if you’re willing to share the recipe, I’d be thrilled! It was absolutely unforgettable. We also enjoyed the special ravioli and the steak frites, paired with a lovely bottle of red wine. While the steak was a bit tough and could’ve used more seasoning, the rest of the meal more than made up for it. Overall, it was a delightful evening in a beautiful setting with thoughtful service and some truly memorable dishes.

They sell a very high end dinner. However, the options are pretty basic and without taste. They have a Lobster risotto which they claim to be able to make a vegetarian version but they simply remove the fish and leave you with just rice with fish taste... No effort to make the client happy and very disrespectful towards vegetarian people.

New/nieuw Amsterdam is in the old building where Manhattan was « invented » by the Dutch in 1625 to become New York - the grandeur is still there but no fuss or formalities, with great vibes, bar and food. Ask for the sommelier’s notebook if you want the special picks of the cellar, some unique wines and not necessarily more expensive.

Our hotel recommended - we were looking for something somewhat casual, that didn't require a reservation but had great food. We had the steak frites with some yummy apps. We sat outside but the servers managed the patio well - we were never forgotten.

It was absolutely amazing. We had the lamb steak frites and it was incredibly delicious both plates were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and stylish, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Easily one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Can’t wait to go back!

it was an amazing experience. The restaurant is located in the building of the former West-Indian Company. It has preserved the interiors of the 17th century. The service and quality of the food were excellent!!! We ordered chicken pate, asparagus, tartar steak and lamb. Everything was delicious! I really liked the original wine list, which was written in a simple notebook, like on a ship. I definitely recommend it!!!

A little off the main tourist street, in a quieter area, which is nice. The prices are a little high, but less excessive compared to other places in the area. The steak tartare was good, as were the fries, with a very generous portion. And above all, the service was excellent!

Nice building and nice atmosphere inside. But how dare you ask 8 euros for a small piece of apple pie that is not even special in taste! Ridiculous and not even worth half the price.

An old wine bar now in use as a café/restaurant. It is located in a beautiful colonial building. You sit there cozy and they have a nice terrace in the courtyard and 1 in front of the door. They serve delicious wines and the snacks are tasty. The service is always friendly. So if you want to eat or drink something somewhere in a special building then I would definitely go here.

Perfect cuisine in a nostalgic atmosphere

I hosted my 30th birthday party at the bar with about 40 people, and it was perfect! The venue is absolutely stunning, and the service was the best we’ve had in Amsterdam. The bartenders were super attentive, friendly, and catered to our every needs. I got so many compliments from my guests. Highly recommend!!

Amazing Sunday roast! We shared a generous platter with chicken, beef cheeks, pork belly, Yorkshire pudding, and seasonal veg—everything was tender, juicy, and perfectly crispy. Around €28 each and absolutely worth it. The setting in the historic West India Company building is stunning, and the service was lovely. Highly recommend!

What a great place to eat. Even the building is awesome. The Restaurant is located in a very historical building called West Indies House who was responsible for conceptualizing NYC. The company built a Fort in Manhattan and they used alot of inspiration for it from Amsterdam. Anyway the restaurant was a great recommendation from a friend and we literally ate there about 4x when we visited last week. The food was great and the staff even better. I highly recommend to try this out when you find yourself in Amsterdam.

Wonderful place in a beautiful location in Amsterdam. We sat on the street and enjoyed people watching, but there was also a beautiful garden with seating for more peace and quiet.

5 stars ♥️ The bread is excellent and the beet salad is amazing. The main courses were outstanding we didn't even pause to take pictures. One was a beautifully cooked medium-rare meat dish, and the other featured golden puff pastry filled with tender chicken and mushrooms. The flavors were rich and satisfying found myself wiping the bowl clean. De chocolate cheese cake is good! A truly memorable dining experience. Highly recommended!

We visited it with my friends and ordered some starters, steak and mussels. The food came really late (50 mins to 1 hr), the steak was overcooked and salty. And absolutely crazy that the mussel portion was only enough to feed a baby. Absolutely money scam!

Little gem in the center of Amsterdam! The historic site offers a magnificent setting. We were able to enjoy the charming interior courtyard, which allows us to have lunch while avoiding the noise of the street. We had the pastrami sandwich. It's not a simple sandwich, it's a chef's sandwich, cooked, with true and honest tastes, perfectly balanced. Add to that impeccable service, a attentive server attentive to our needs. Good advice, he was interested in our afternoon excursion and directed us. I warmly recommend, the kind of discreet but high-quality little place!

Was recommended by the hotel concierge to try this place, and I’m really happy I came here. Food was wonderful, the environment was nice, but abit too dark, should have more light. Service was great, loved the friendly and attentive staff. Ingredients were all fresh and tasty, think it’s a French fusion style kind of cooking.

A local stranger recommended this place while we didn’t get a table in another restaurant. The staff were so kind to accommodate 7 of us for dinner without any reservation. This is a fancy restaurant but not pretentious that serves high quality European food. We received excellent service and attention to details throughout our dinner. The menu is limited however the food were well presented and well executed, fine French wine too. Recommended for quality dining in a warm setting and reservation is recommended as it seems popular amongst the locals. We had a great dinner.

The place is really nice, the food is nothing out of the ordinary, specially for the price point. Expect waiting 1 hour for your main course and not get anything in between, you’ll go back home hungrier than you came here. 1/10
