This review has a great deal of nostalgia, which contributes to my perfect experience. As a kid I visited the Netherlands and my uncle had me try the most amazing smoked fish. 20 years later it remains one of my most memorable bite and I finally asked my uncle what it was : Smoked Mackerel. My quest to experience that flavor again began again when I visited Amsterdam and ended with me having a lovely table outside , a crisp beverage and the most excellent smoked mackerel salad. Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

Absolutely great! It was my girlfriend's birthday, and I had indicated this in advance via my reservation. Everyone who came to serve us was aware of this and congratulated my friend. We were also welcomed with a glass of bubbles and there was a handwritten birthday card on the table. Definitely recommended!

Just wow, this has quickly made it to our list of favorite restaurants. Happened across this warm, welcoming and vibrant restaurant whilst hunting out Petite Gateau down the road and popped in for Bitterballen and beer, but stayed for steak and fries. Before we'd left we boo ked for Sunday lunch tomorrow! Fantastic food coupled with the most attentive service from absolutely everyone that served us with a special shout out to Elena (if I remember correctly). Our first time in Amsterdam, but it won't be the last. Thanks for such a delightful meal. Looking forward to lunch tomorrow!

Very nice place, we were having some beers and local delicacies (meatballen and cheese board) and the truth is that everything was very delicious. Spectacular service, attentive, pleasant and very friendly. Recommended site!!

You almost walk past it and then you think oh, why not. Not because it doesn't look nice.. No, it's very beautiful, but then you think in Amsterdam so that will be very expensive BUT THAT'S NOT 🥰 Super sweet, hard-working staff and almost Brabant friendly 😅 thank you for the nice coffee, delicious sourdough bread and the good care.

Incredibly terrible. We have been working our way through Amsterdam's Sunday lunch offerings, just when we thought we had found the worst we visited what looked like a swanky eatery. Service was great, however the despite the classy looking venue this did not extend to the food. Tell me more about the food I hear you say. 28eu x2 set meal, this gets you and your friend: deep fried chicken, deep fried pork belly, deep fried crispy potatoes, 12 not deep fried brussel sprouts which makes up the sum of all the vegetables on offer. Then there is a side dish of beef cheeks in baked beans which, for which I shall award 1 star, the rest is all negative stars. The food, if you want to call it that, was served on a single normal plate from which we had to share onto these ridiculous little plates, the gravy / food was so salty I was drinking water for the rest of the day. The venue was so loud you could barely hear the other person, hint ... buy sound absorbing noise boards. I just don't understand how whoever owns this place, which is clearly very nice has no understanding of what a Sunday lunch is, has not heard of vegetables, treats all their meats like a FEBO snackbar, and has never thought it might be an idea to dampen the noise with some modern solutions. And to top it off, when I passed the feedback to the waiter, in typical Dutch fashion, they went straight on to the defensive and made it my problem.

The real question, after having tasted a spoon of their shrimp appetizer, was: why doesn't this place have a Michelin star? The food was excellent, as well as the service (heads up to Julia -i Hope I spelled your name correctly - ), and me and my wife enjoyed a wonderful evening with top-notch, quality food and hospitality. Congratulations to the owner for creating such a wonderful team, can't wait to come back again!

The waiter spilled beer on my jacket. No one apologized to me. 20 minutes passed and no one cleaned the beer off the floor, we had to ask them to do it separately. We have been asking the waiter for 20 minutes to come to our table, but no one has come, even though we want to pay. I do not recommend it to anyone. The service is terrible.

Great spot for a relaxing meal. The building is beautiful and atmosphere very relaxing. The food is simple and tasty. We had the hamburger and the sweet potato soup. The waitstaff were very knowledgeable about food allergies.

As everywhere in Amsterdam, the restaurant is well decorated with good atmosphere but the food is extremely disappointing. It wasn’t even good. I don’t recommend the lobster risotto (no lobster in it) if you have a normal appetite (I’m 155cm so imagine) and it’s “écœurant” (that doesn’t translate well). The beef was ok. For dessert I had the chocolate cheesecake which consistance made it very filling and écœurant as well. To sum up: a meh 60€/person dinner. I heard the bar and their cafe in the summer is nice though.

Nice ambiance, friendly and fast service. Food was a bit mediocre (also 24€ for a cabbage salad) and the steak was chewy. Maybe next time would try something different.

Beautiful place with nice surroundings. Staff generally friendly. It's a bit of a shame that the person who brought the food didn't have 30 seconds to take a photo of us. Roasted Sunday was fine, but our chicken was still raw on the inside.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening here! The staff are polite, and friendly 😊 We were well looked after by them right from the time we arrived, to greeted, seated, and served. It was a busy evening, but they made sure to not forget us even though we were seated in the back in a cozy corner. And they even provided is alternatives for dietary intolerances ❤️ The portion sizes are optimal for a hungry bunch ;) Tip: Recommend the clams and pheasant, if you like shellfish and hunted fowl.

We took refuge in this café with its cozy, old-fashioned atmosphere. The old cast iron heaters that line each table allowed us to dry our soggy belongings. A very pretty setting. Warm and fast service. The food was very basic, with no surprises, but to sip a local beer and eat a warm croque monsieur, it's the ideal place.

Excellent welcoming staff. Food was excellent. Soup with sourdough bread as a side was more than enough for lunch. Also the croque madame was excellent.

Found this gem as I was strolling, I adored the waiter she was very knowledgeable of the menu and the most liked dishes. Every dish looked full and tasty. The atmosphere was absolutely lovely. Awesome service, delicious drinks, flavorful food and the snacks were a delight. I have another trip planned to come back to Amsterdam next year I can't think about anything other than making this my first stop for the olives in the anchovy brine absolutely delicious! Such a delicious delight. Can't wait to visit again from the US just to order the olives. Maybe I should call and see if they ship to the US. 😉☺️ definitely worth the $$$

I got a gintonic and, unfortunatelly, I droped it (after two seaps, or 5 minutes). after cleaning the table, I got another, and I had to pay for it!!. frankly, I consider this really low service

We’ve come a couple of times already, for drinks, for lunch, and last time for the INCREDIBLE Sunday roast and—needless to say—it did. It disappoint at all. People in Amsterdam, come here for whatever yiur fancy or occasion and you will love it! And definitely come for Sunday roast 😍

Had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Café Nieuw and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam. With a cozy interior, and its friendly staff, the restaurant alone is worth it. The chicken for two was delicious and a great quantity for the price, and the hash browns it comes with are addictive. All the other dishes I sampled were also very tasty. Hope to go back soon!

Fresh food in relaxed atmosphere. Very moist burger and fresh bread. Inspired menu with several interesting choices. The soup was creamy mustard and greens with nice seasoning. Slow on the service and young confused server. But very nice.

Fantastic! We had a private dinner upstairs. Amazing venue, attentive staff, really good wines and creative menu suitable for all food allergies and restrictions.

We went for Sunday Roast last weekend and had a fantastic time together. The place is very cozy and it turned out to be pretty busy when we came in, but that was not a problem for the service and atmosphere. Service is relaxed, also very quick and makes you feel welcome. Warm recommendations! Delicious food and even better service! Great experience! 4 of us share the same experience - very good! Beside all dishes we eat here (steak s etc) one thing was amazing- bread! We order 5 times bread, best one we ever had. I have to emphasize chicken liver paste!

Very nice food just few options on the menu. We ate very tasty filet meat but it was cold and didn't come with anything. The service is very good as is the environment.

Delicious food (BBQ Spitskool highly recommended) and always exceptionally friendly staff. Beautiful and attractive decor. The wines that can be ordered by the glass are also of very good quality. The only point for improvement as far as I'm concerned is the Aperol Spritz, which really contains way too much ice.

All round one of the best places in Amsterdam both for lunch and dinner, it’s really cozy in winter and they have a beautiful sunny courtyard in the summer. The food is fantastic and they serve nice wines as well. 5*

Pleasant decor, your plate fits on the table, and you don't sit directly on each other's lips, nice lunch menu, a relief, something different from those eternal croquettes. Good bread, creatively topped and very tasty! And, adequate, friendly service. In my opinion, highly recommended.

You don't get anything with your meat. A small amount of fries costs 8 euros and is so well done that you can hardly pick it up with your fork and you have to eat it with your hands. Vegetables came in the form of chicory with lots of cheese sauce. You also have to pay extra for that. We received side dishes a few minutes later, so we started with the meat. Extremely strange that they can't serve it at the same time. So they don't sell dishes to drive up the price. I can't imagine people coming back here for the dining experience.

Food was good, but service wasn't. They took about 15mins only to bring the menu, another 15 for the drinks and additional 30mins for the food, which was only sandwiches. I believe there was a wedding starting later that day, so everybody was focused on that... Very limited menu. Good: place in general is super beautiful and fries were nice.

FOOD POISONING! AVOID! My partner and I went for dinner on a Friday evening, there was a private party happening in the back so the staff were clearly busy with that and I could see other customers looking annoyed when I walked in. The waitress was really moody and didn’t seem to care about serving us, took ages to bring menus, take drink orders etc. Still we were there and decided to order oysters, mussels, and a prawn special. When the food eventually arrived none of the fish tasted particularly fresh but I wasn’t prepared for what happened that evening. We both came down with severe food poisoning which lasted the whole weekend. I wrote an email to management, no reply, sent a follow up email, no reply. Over two weeks later and still no reply, which I find frankly disgusting. My partner could not work the entire weekend from being so sick so not only did we pay a fortune to the actual restaurant (this place is extremely overpriced) we also lost 2 days salary because of it. Obviously we won’t be going back. Awful experience that I never want to go through again.

This review is for all students / people who have to watch their money a bit. I saw videos of this cafe on social media and because of the beautiful interior and atmosphere we decided to have lunch here. We were helped very friendly and the atmosphere was even better than in the videos. It is definitely Instagrammable! Unfortunately we had to wait 45 minutes for our food (2 sandwiches) and we thought that was a bit long. We also thought the price/quality ratio was quite low. It was tasty, but not special and not in large quantities and therefore a bit too pricey in our opinion. Conclusion: If you don't have to watch your money and would like to eat in a special setting, then definitely go here, but do know: there are plenty of other places nearby, in Amsterdam, where you can eat better and cheaper. Tip for the cafe: give some sharper knives with the sandwiches ;)

Extremely disappointed, the place seemed beautiful and chic but don't be fooled by appearances. It's hard to do worse for a Cesar salad. Little tasteless sauce, unseasoned vacuum poached egg, a piece of chicken with skin and fat everywhere. I was able to leave everything behind. The service is neutral, taking orders and serving dishes and that's it.

Delicious food, good wine, top service and nice location. Ended up here by chance on the terrace, with our dog (also kindly received). Beautiful historic location with two terraces including a courtyard. Price quality also OK. In short: definitely eat!!

Actually nice local. Staff friendly but not very attentive. We ordered 1 beer, 1 glass of wine and a bottle of mineral. The mineral was still even though it was ordered. Wine was too warm. Staff walked three times. We didn't like the olives.

We only had something to drink and it was very tasty (only the tomato juice was a bit spicy). Service 11/10 very nice waitress. Ambience super good both inside and outside a 10/10 facility.

This place is super impressive, knowing its history and how it is built. I loved the patio area where it was so chill to sit and eat. The menu is wide and rich with tasty dishes. The prices are affordable. The presentation for the plates was nice as well. Staff are extremely friendly and nice

This is a nice restaurant with a cozy courtyard. The food is nice even if the menu is quite limited. Drinks are nice and well priced. Service is mixed, depends on your luck and time that you visit. Overall a nice place within minutes walking from central station.

The site is something I want and I can't. The place is nice but the service is slow and the staff's lack of experience is evident. We ordered sardines (with bones...) and meat with pepper to share, with a price that is not worth it for the quality of both dishes (€15.50 and €25 respectively). I do not recommend it.

Worst 45 eur spent of my entire life. This was the worst mistake I ever made. Should have left after the first bite of this steak. So if you’re interested in experiencing a food poisoning rollercoaster where you spend the whole night puking your guts out and not knowing how you will make it to daylight, this is the place. Never again.

It's my favorite go-to place in this area! Food is not the best but the cocktails are great, staff is amazing, and the atmosphere perfect! I always take all my friends to this place... :-D

Beautiful location very close to Central Station. The food is a bit pretentious, good but nothing so special that made us want to go back, we weren't really impressed. Maybe more recommended for lunch than for dinner, which can be very expensive
