Cozy place. Retro with a good vibe.

The food was delicious. We started with the cheese and leek croquettes, which I found rather dull. Maybe after 100 beers, they're delicious, but after a glass of excellent red wine, they weren't particularly appealing. However, I thought the stewed fries were absolutely delicious. Not too salty, the fries were delicious, and the sauces were equally delicious. Just like my companion's steak. Super delicious.

I found the food to be very bad. I've been eating at the cafe for 30 years, but the food has really deteriorated recently. The fries tasted awful and industrially seasoned. The waiter did his best to fix the situation.

A cozy little restaurant in the heart of the Jordaan district. You can also just enjoy a beer at the front of the café. The young team is very friendly. The menu is classic and quite limited. We had the fish of the day, which was pike-perch with a delicious hollandaise sauce. The wine list offers plenty of choice. The desserts are simple but excellent. The cheese board was excellent, with sliced ​​cheeses. For dinner, it's recommended to book before 8 p.m. so you can dine longer. The portions aren't huge, but you get quality food, and the price is very reasonable.

I have mixed feelings about our evening here. It looks very atmospheric and cozy, but it's quite busy and the tables are close together. It's clear that maximizing sales is more important than providing guests with a truly relaxing evening. You can only reserve a table for two hours. After that, you really have to leave, because the table is immediately given to other guests. So, this isn't the place for a long, pleasant evening of fine dining. If you just want a quick bite, it's a great choice. The food is simple, but the prices reflect that, so the price-quality ratio is excellent. During our visit, we were reminded at least three times that we absolutely had to vacate our table after two hours. That felt uncomfortable and made us feel like we had to leave as quickly as possible. Five minutes before our reservation expired, we were allowed to order dessert, so we figured it wouldn't be a problem to stay a little longer. Twenty minutes later, we ordered another bottle of drink, but the manager, who had seemed rather tense all evening, instructed the staff that we absolutely had to leave. We hadn't even received our desserts yet. They were then brought quickly, and it was clear we were supposed to eat them quickly. In short: it all felt rushed and unrelaxed. It's clear that making money here is more important than letting guests dine in peace. A shame, but that seems to be their concept, and of course, they have every right to do so. So, this place is recommended for a quick bite or a cozy drink at the bar, but not for a full night out.

A friend in the Jordaan happened to recommend it and had a great meal there. Just in time, and a bit early, but a little later, the place was packed. The food was okay, though... The fries were way too salty, which was a shame.

They've transformed it into a lively and welcoming place without losing its authentic atmosphere. The menu features the classics you'd expect from an eatery—think tomato soup, steak with fries, and salad—but of remarkably high quality. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and carefully prepared. Since the takeover, it's been a busy place; the cafe was packed, so reservations are highly recommended. What makes this eatery extra special is the clientele: from young, trendy Amsterdammers to locals who have been coming for years. It feels like a meeting place for everyone, and such places are becoming increasingly rare in Amsterdam. The service also deserves praise: fast, friendly, and attentive. Combined with the excellent price-quality ratio, this is a place we'll definitely be returning to again.

Good food, professional staff and service. At one point we were asked to make room for the next shift. That was already quite a while after the standard two hours so we had no problem with it. Asking for another spot at the bar for a last drink, confusion started and eventually turned out there was no more place available to our liking. So we decided to leave but I was really surprised to get apologies from the manager and on top of that gave us a hefty ‘sorry’ discount on our bill; I’ll go there again! Great spot, good quality/price balance and again, clever and appropriate service level !

Food was very tasty, we took fish and chicken. Bear for me was unexpectedly small and expensive 0.18L for non-alcoholic beer, that was ~4.2 eur and “regular” beer was 0.25L. Outside only 2 tables and not for dinner. Food choice is less than photos here.

Even though it’s a place often mentioned by visitors, this also seemed to be a spot frequented by locals. There’s a charm to the dining room and it also feels current with the art on the walls. The menu features some Dutch staples and also veers in slightly broader directions. We started with an order of Bitterballen and for my main I had the schnitzel and my partner had steak. Everything was good including the addictive fries with the steak. There’s a full bar and that area seemed popular as well. Our server was very nice and seemed to know many of the patrons.

Very, very good restaurant. In the quiet Jordaan, brasserie atmosphere, very warm welcome, very good service, small menu that makes your mouth water, Dutch cuisine with fresh products. We go there very often and the menu changes regularly. A delight.

This place has a charm about it that makes you feel comfortable. It’s not fine dining but the food is on point and the service is friendly and gets the job done. It’s tucked in the charming Jordaan area and while busy doesn’t feel as frenetic as places in the more touristy areas.

Feed was great. The service was perfect. Casual and professional. They put you at ease whilst also giving you a great service. Quite the skills. Food was lovely and Rose wine was especially good! Will go back when I’m next in Amsterdam to impress my friends. I had the Leek Croquettes to start, schnitzel main and chocolate moose for pud.

If you're looking for an authentic place, frequented by Amsterdam locals with character and originality, you're in the right place...excellent beer...but the Dutch drink wine by the glass with a good international selection. Don't miss the delicious Bitterballen.

El servicio fue nefasto. Tardaron más de 45m en atendernos. El típico truco de servir dos rosados antes de la botella para cobrarlos por separado. Ni un snack de arenque fueron capaces de servir en menos de 15m...la supuesta ensalada que acompñanabaos platos eran hojas con un par de trozos de cuadraditos de pan tostada..... en general una gran decepción más teniendo en cuenta que nos lo había recomendado. Perfect for special occasions. The ambiance is refined but cozy, and the lighting adds a romantic feel. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings and were blown away by every course. Each dish was a work of art, with flavors that complemented each other so well. The sommelier was knowledgeable and kind. This is a place that truly delivers an experience.

We love De Reiger! It was our favorite restaurant during our honeymoon 8 years ago and we returned during our family trip. Incredible how after 8 years it was still just as amazing, if not better!! The chicken breast and fish of the day were mouthwatering with every bite.

Visited after reading the review in the Parool. Starter fish trio modest portion with a bit of tarragon salad reasonable for 12 euros just acceptable. Main course plaice fillet. I repeat myself but a very small fish with a salad consisting of croutons and ordinary lettuce. very simple. In addition for me and my table companion mediocre frozen fries with sour Belgian mayonnaise. On my plate also 2 tiny potatoes. Where were the vegetables? For 25 euros just too limited. Fish fillet tasted good all in all I don't understand the positive review in the Parool. Decent food but no more than that.

Tuvimos una gran experiencia de cena aquí! Los puerros con vinagreta cremosa y avellanas como entrada estaban súper sabrosos. Me encanta este clásico francés, y no decepcionó. El pollo en salsa de estragón venía con verduras al dente y solo estaba lamiendo bien los dedos. Todos los platos venían con patatas fritas y ensalada. Buena selección de vino y cerveza y personal atento, también precios muy razonables! ¡No puedo esperar para ir de nuevo!

A pesar del caos del Día del Rey, hicimos el esfuerzo de llegar allí, reserva en mano, solo para encontrar el restaurante cerrado sin previo aviso. Sin email, sin llamada, nada. Es completamente inaceptable que un negocio trate a los clientes de esta manera. Si yo dirigiera mi negocio así, me quedaría sin trabajo. Nos causaron estrés innecesario y arruinaron nuestra velada. Basado en esta experiencia, absolutamente no los recomendaría.

This is not a review of the food but of our experience. After cancelling and then reconfirming our booking, we were looking forward to trying some authentic Flemish food. Despite the chaos of King’s Day, we made the effort to get there, reservation in hand — only to find the restaurant shut without any warning. No email, no call, nothing. It’s completely unacceptable for a business to treat customers this way. If I ran my business like this, I’d be out of work. They caused us unnecessary stress and ruined our evening as we then had to find a restaurant that had availability. Based on this experience, I absolutely would not recommend them.

Very tasty traditional Dutch food. Bitterballen (fried meatballs) with mustard were a great appetizer. Afterwards, the schnitzel is served in the classic way with a mushroom cream sauce and the traditional pot of potatoes and endive with a sausage. There was also Draft IPA and the service was friendly and accommodating. Definitely worth a visit if you would like to try out Dutch cuisine!

De Reiger was always a nice, high-quality café, but now with a new owner it has become a student pub with ditto bites. Full, chaotic, simple menu and execution of the dishes and a lot of “we know us” from staff and visitors.

The spot may not seem fancy, but the food is delicious. I tried the schnitzel while my partner went for the beef stew, and both were amazing. Seriously, you won't regret going there; it's that good! Plus, the staff is super friendly. My partner and I had a fantastic time there!

Ik was lange tijd niet meer bij De Reiger geweest, kwam er eerst vaker, het was altijd heel goed! Viel gisteren erg tegen. Het personeel is vriendelijk en behulpzaam als altijd. Maar het eten was erg matig. Weinig keus, zeer gewoon, erg kleine porties (heel klein bakje friet voor 2 personen), en de salade! Een bakje met 4 blaadjes botersla. Het dessert was letterlijk een reepje caramel-pecantaart. De wijn was lekker.

I have been looking for a nice café near me for a while. I love cooking. But sometimes I don't. Yesterday I ate at De Reiger. Skrei (winter cod), cubes of celeriac, stewed chicory and a sauce of beurre blanc. Fries with delicious mayonnaise, and a crispy salad (tasty vinaigrette). Nice atmosphere, music and staff. Ha habido algunos cambios en el menú y algunos cambios cosméticos también. Era mi "costilla", pero se convirtió en mi bacalao. Mientras elimina algunos elementos populares del menú, espera que los estándares sigan siendo altos. Tanto la calidad de los alimentos como el servicio eran como se esperaba muy, muy buenos. Compartimos las croquetas (nunca han sido una de mis favoritas) que eran súper. El carpaccio, era uno de los favoritos de mi esposa, había cambiado un poco pero sigue siendo #1. El bacalao es delicioso y pide pan que querrás cada poco de la salsa.

What a shame the previous ownership has gone! We went to what used to be one of our favourite neighbourhood restaurants, looking forward to a well prepared home cooked meal. Only to discover that the place has recently changed hands. What a disappointment! It is now a very average café with all the banalities on the menu. Not sure that the hygiene is great either as we saw the bar tender plunge his fingers in a bowl of peanuts to fill a small dish for clients who ordered drinks. Real pity, but we will never go back.

New favorite place in the Jordaan! Upon entering you immediately stand at the bar, where you are greeted in a friendly manner and you immediately feel like having a chat and ordering a whistle or glass of bubbles. I think a good evening at De Reiger starts at the bar, then enjoys a nice meal and then ends at the bar again. (One more then) The service is friendly and professional, the menu is exactly what it should be and they have a very accessible and extensive wine list (yay) We ordered the fish trio, simple and beautifully presented. It was the tastiest salmon tartare I have eaten in a long time, the only point for improvement was the brandade, which was on the salty side. We shared the terrine and it was very good and tasty and I will definitely order it again next time. Then we had the bouchee with mushrooms (delicious!) and fish of the day with beurre blanc. And chocolate mousse (firm, velvety soft and not too sweet). And another compliment about the crispy, fresh, just-right flavored lettuce with the dishes. Sounds simple, but is often a challenge in many places. In short, what a new addition to the neighborhood, and the next visit is already planned!

Typical Dutch restaurant, located in the center a few steps from the Anne Frank house. Welcoming place, characterized by empathetic, helpful, kind and smiling staff. Menu also appreciated by "Italian" palates. We gladly returned during our week in Amsterdam. See you soon Stefano "Buratta"

My wife and I had a nice meal and bottle of wine tonight at this bar/restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the bartender as soon as we arrived. Since we sat in the bar area, the bartender also acted as our server. He went over the daily specials but we elected to try a couple regular menu entrees - beefsteak for me and the wife ordered the ravioli. Both were very good and while dining we enjoyed chatting with our server/bartender and another server since it was getting late, the restaurant was clearing out and they weren't too busy. They were both as nice as they could be and offered us their suggestions for a few other restaurants and bars to try while we are visiting. I would recommend this place for a meal or a drink. Nice atmosphere too.

The food is really tasty and they have several specialties of the day. The staff was friendly, but because it was crowded they were a little bit slow with the order. Otherwise everything was great, except the fact that if was so much noise inside that you couldn’t here the other person at the table. You can’t sit outside because they don’t serve food there

Wow! What a gem. I want to kick myself as I have lived in the Jordaan for over 7 years and this is the 1st time I have been here. From the moment we walked in, I loved it. Staff were so welcoming, happy to let us move to a slightly larger table when it became available. Food was delicious, great options on main menu-card and lots of specials (need to go back to try more as it was hard to choose!) Loved the bread and olive tapenade on the table, the mustard soup was fantastic as was the lamb tenderloin. My boyfriend had the carpaccio (which he said was the best he ever had) and the ribs which were so well seasoned and not smothered in any sauce. We finished with the ice cream truffles. The wine list is great, they offer most of the wines as glass, carafe or bottle. I throughly enjoyed the Bio Sangiovese. Atmosphere was lovely, the setting is like you just walked back in time and it’s in a lovely quiet part of the neighborhood but have to say the staff made it. Every single one was friendly and engaging. The cherry on the cake is menus are in both Dutch and English including the specials board which makes you feel very welcome. Thank you for giving us the most perfect Saturday evening.

Fuimos recibidos por un servidor amable que se duplicó como el camarero. Nosotros cinco estábamos sentados en una mesa grande junto a la ventana principal. La comida estaba empatada para mejor en nuestro viaje, así que haga tiempo para venir aquí. Tuve la lubina abrasada que se sirve con patatas, judías verdes y una salsa divina de estragón / Burre. Deliciosa con un toque ligero. Mi hermano tenía los mejillones que eran tiernos y sabrosos y presentaba un gran número de ellos.

Tropezados por este lugar, tenían los Euros en la pantalla grande, tuvieron que parar. Tomé una cerveza, delicioso. Atendido por el mejor barman.

What a memorable dinner during our first night in Amsterdam. Located in the beautiful Jordaan district, this is a cozy old Dutch restaurant that serves various dishes. The mussels with fries were super delicious, even better than ones we had in Belgium. Drinks were great too. Looking forward to returning again! :)

Ended up here unexpectedly yesterday. We were immediately warmly welcomed in a cozy setting. I chose the guinea fowl with sweet potato puree and pomegranate sauce. The meat fell off the bone like butter. The sauce and sweet potato gave the dish a soft sweet touch. For dessert I just wanted a small snack and received a custom-made plate with 1 ice truffle. The service was super friendly. We were constantly supplied with fresh water for free. Honest food, deliciously prepared in a cozy restaurant.
