It took a long time before someone came to help

I ordered chicken satay, it wasn't good. The meat didn't touch the pan, straight from the microwave. Not tasty.

Unfortunately, our visit was very disappointing this time. I had ordered my meat rare, but initially received it much too well-done. After I pointed this out, my plate was taken away. Subsequently, it took almost 10 minutes before I was told that it would take about another 8 minutes for my new plate to be ready. By that time, my partner was already halfway through his meal. We were asked if his plate needed to be put on the keep-warm setting, but that didn't seem like a good idea to us. As a result, my partner ended up eating alone, and I received my dish much later. When my new plate arrived, the meat was unfortunately not rare, but practically raw. It didn't look good and I simply didn't like it, so I ultimately didn't finish it. Afterwards, we had coffee. When settling the bill, it came to €98. I paid €100, after which I was asked: "A little tip?" Of course, as a guest, you are free to decide whether and how much to tip, but personally, I feel that as a staff member, you shouldn't have to ask for it directly. Certainly not after the way our meal unfolded. From a service perspective, I would have found it much more appropriate if, for example, the coffee had not been charged, or if something had been done differently with the main course. Ultimately, it wasn't a minor mistake, but a meal I was unable to finish and an experience where we couldn't eat together. It's a shame, because in my opinion, much more could have been done here, particularly regarding service.

It is always a success at De Zwaan. All parties have been celebrated there. Well taken care of. This time, a buffet with dessert. There was plenty to eat and, of course, drink for all the guests.

Someone in our group had fallen ill, but afterwards she wanted to join us. No problem for De Zwaan. Cozy atmosphere, we had a separate table, a nice surprise for my husband on his birthday. He felt completely like it was his birthday. Highly recommended.

I ordered the mussels whole stir-fried, but I find that a real letdown. The mussels are tasty, but the vegetables are in the same container, and there is a layer of water in it—or whatever it was—making the vegetables impossible to find and preventing you from eating them together with the mussels. Back home, when we used to fry them out of the shell, they were inedible; they were completely covered in food after being taken out of the shell, no fun at all. Unfortunately, I would advise against ordering that. And I must say that I love mussels, but this is what I think of them; a shame.

We had the pleasure of celebrating our golden wedding anniversary at De Zwaan, and it was, in one word, fantastic. The planning and preparation (thank you, Mayke), the service, the staff, the attentive and friendly service—it was all exactly as we had envisioned it, absolutely perfect. The walking dinner served was delicious, presented in style, and lacked nothing. A big compliment to the kitchen team, who were undoubtedly already under pressure due to a packed sunny outdoor terrace. We received nothing but compliments from all our guests, and we are happy to pass these on to the people at De Zwaan. It was absolutely top-notch and made our celebration unforgettable.

Nice terrace to grab a quick cup of coffee during a bike ride. Unfortunately, it is not a smoke-free terrace, so we left early due to the nuisance caused by smokers. Otherwise, friendly service and delicious coffee and cappuccino.

We were served very courteously and the food was very tasty. We sat in the back with the air conditioning, which was lovely in that hot weather. Moreover, it wasn't too big, so it was pleasantly full without disturbing each other.

We have now been to De Zwaan for the second time, and once again the food was fantastic and the service, with the exception of one brief moment, excellent. We had only just found the restaurant after quite a bit of searching, and were so enthusiastic the first time that we were eager to return. And rightly so: the quality of the food is truly amazing. However, as a guest, I would like to mention one small point of attention, precisely because we are so positive about De Zwaan. For dessert, we chose the cheese board. With “special cheeses,” I personally had expected something different: for example, fine French cheeses, Camembert, Brie, blue cheeses, or other special cheeses. The board we received consisted, to my taste, mainly of Dutch cheeses with, for example, Italian herbs and pesto. That can certainly be special, of course, but it was simply not what I had understood by “special cheeses.” I therefore tasted one piece and subsequently indicated that it did not quite meet my expectations. I did not intend this as a complaint; I actually just walked inside to discuss it directly and politely: perhaps you could do something with it, perhaps not. For me, that was basically the end of it. What disappointed me next was primarily the reaction. There was explicit talk of a “complaint” and the fact that I had already eaten it. As a result, the conversation took on a somewhat negative tone, whereas my intention was precisely to give feedback in a normal manner. Ultimately, I unfortunately left there angrier than I had planned, and I actually found that a shame, because it didn't fit the rest of our evening at all. The cheese platter was eventually removed from the bill, for which I am grateful. And despite this incident, we simply left a tip, because we were once again very satisfied with the food and the evening as a whole. I am writing this mainly because we have a very warm affection for De Zwaan and love coming back. That is precisely why I hope this feedback reaches the owners. As far as I am concerned, a guest who expected something different than what they received does not have to be a “complainer.” Sometimes it is simply someone wanting to let us know: this wasn't quite what I expected; can you do something about it? For us, De Zwaan absolutely remains a restaurant we enjoy visiting. Hopefully, this minor incident can be seen primarily as a point of attention in communication, because the rest was top-notch once again.

The service is fine and the starters were okay, but the main courses are substandard. Deep-fried schnitzels, far too dry. The mixed grill was well done even though medium rare was requested. The chicken fillet was even sent back to the kitchen, but once returned it wasn't much better. The satay was also all too dry. The chef doesn't really know when the meat is done, or he is too busy. Very disappointing.

I ate Noor sole that was perfectly fried and tasted great.

Because a large group of people were talking quite loudly in the room where our table was located, until the food was served, I had trouble understanding my table companions opposite me. That was a shame.

We had a great meal, and the service was incredibly nice and friendly. For the main course, I had calf's liver, which was slightly overcooked, but the rest was fine.

We have been coming to De Zwaan in Son for over 45 years, and usually the food is good or adequate. The last time, we ordered meat: a classic schnitzel and a mixed grill. We shouldn't have done that. The tenderloin, pork, and chicken breast were not tender and were dry. Only the piece of spare rib was acceptable. The schnitzel was too thick, dry, and not tender either. We eat very little meat, and after this experience, we know once again why that is. No more meat for us at De Zwaan.

Nothing but compliments for the restaurant and its staff. A lunch to honor and remember a deceased loved one. There was no fuss about the request for a specific table. The food was superb and well-priced for what was on the plate. Staff helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

I treated my wife to dinner because we had been married for 37 years. I chose restaurant “De Zwaan”. A very good choice. We had a delicious meal with a good wine. The waitress was very friendly. The price-quality ratio was excellent. We will definitely come back here again.

Upon entering, my wife and I were immediately given dirty looks by the staff; we were basically stared at, as it were. Then, after raising our hands 3 or 4 times to be helped (and being stared at), we were finally served. The atmosphere was very strange, as if no one wanted to be there, and the food was inedible as well. What a terrible place.

It was very busy in the restaurant, making it very noisy. That was a bit of a shame. But normally, a nice ambiance and good quality food.

We had a lovely time sitting on the terrace, despite the fair and the Dutch national team's football match, which we were unaware of when making the reservation. We had a delicious and plentiful meal, and the service was prompt and friendly. Regarding the takeover, I cannot give a realistic picture of the noise level, as it was the fair and the Dutch national team was playing football.

Perfect spot. It's a shame that when there are a lot of people in the room, it becomes an echo chamber. You can hardly talk to your own people then.

We had lunch for a team outing and drinks at the end of the day to round things off. Everything was well organized with drink vouchers per person, and the food was delicious. Clear agreements were made beforehand and adhered to well regarding dietary requirements, etc.

The dishes were delicious, but my vegetables weren't quite warm, and the red wine sauce had a bitter aftertaste. The tenderloin was tender, and the fish pan was well-filled. My drinks were forgotten twice. It was also a bit crowded in the cozy, atmospheric restaurant with comfortable seating.
