This review starts off on a very positive note, but ends on a very negative note: The fries at Cafetaria Vuurens are truly delicious, the best fries in Nijmegen, 100%. However, the owner is scandalously rude to her customers. Rarely seen. But that's not even the saddest part; she also rips off her own staff (her own son?!), which the visitors hear loud and clear. It's bizarre how such a condescending owner can behave. All three of us felt a pang of pity. Not the first time; this was the case on previous visits as well. Such a waste of those delicious fries; this was our last time here. I'd like to quote a friend: "I'd rather walk on Lego blocks my whole life than have to work here for a single day."

A lovely old-fashioned cafeteria where we enjoyed delicious fries tonight. We understand why they call them the best fries in Nijmegen!

I used to come here back when I was a student, about 50 years ago now. The fact that I still get fries there when I'm in Nijmegen speaks volumes, I guess.

This afternoon, I popped in here for the first time in 33 years for fries. I was curious, but it was truly bizarre how the taste was still exactly how I remembered it after all this time.

Got a tip so I went. The portion of fries with mayonnaise and croquettes was way too small for 6.50, which I find unacceptable. The taste wasn't anything special.

I was there to get fries for the umpteenth time. That little fat girl was chatting with another girl at the table. After waiting for a while that little fat girl asked, can I order fries? She said back, I'm busy with a job interview. I've never been back since. This was 11 years ago!!!

When I was a little kid I used to go there with my parents.. only the staff was a generation older, the rest was the same! Top place..

First of all; the food is great and the decor is amazing! But then: what kind of owner is this? The lady behaves like an angry nasi ball. During my visit I saw that a man who was clearly of limited intellect forgot to pay. When the fiery frikandelletje behind the counter noticed this, she reacted fiercely and cynically by saying ‘would you like to pay, I would like that’. To then add ‘well, there’s the door’. How unkind can you be. This sour lady really needs to do something else instead of acting like a passive-aggressive sitostick or an easily flammable lihanboutje.

good food and lovely employees. It just shouldn't close earlier than the opening hours indicate. Because I once went there for nothing...that's a real shame. Already closed at 7:35 PM. while it says 8 p.m.

There's a weird guy behind the counter with his Gucci glasses on. Just don't respond. In the 20m we were in the store he filled a jar with sauce

The best fries in town. With an endearing local of those who are no longer found. The service is correct. The fried battered chicken pieces are delicious and not industrial, but real chicken. If you eat fried food a few times a year, it should be good quality and taste good!

Way too expensive if you eat there and order it on a plate. And it's not like you get extra. We had to pay €46.50 for 2 fries of stew, 1 fries with satay, the sauce was way too salty... and 2 bottles of fanta (€3.25).

I also came in tonight at 7:40 PM. The first thing we heard was "take away only". Huh? It's 7:40 PM and you don't close until 8:00 PM? At 7.55 pm we were "kindly but urgently" asked to leave the cafeteria. What I don't understand here is that the catering industry complains a lot, but in this case the owner should look in the mirror to see whether she still treats her customers so kindly and whether she can continue to rely on the fame achieved by her predecessors forever. Shouting "we have enough customers" will cost you dearly again, madam. Your behavior creates a negative atmosphere in your cafeteria! As a customer you have lost me and others this evening.

Arrived at 7:45 PM, closing time 8:00 PM, and then got thrown out at 7:55 PM because they were closing. Little effort to get people to eat their food. Just asked why this has to be this way: we have enough customers

An old Dutch gem. Step inside and go back decades in time. They make their own fries here. I think fries/fries are fine, but they could really be better. Not very particularly good, or anything like that. The frikandel special was good. Just good. And a fried slice.

This is of course and remains THE cafeteria of Nijmegen. No LED screens with prices, no large pumps of sauce. Everything old school with very good fries. A piece of string with charm, so to speak

After having been to many chip shops, Vuurens remains the very best in Nijmegen and the surrounding area. They have never disappointed us and the owners are very nice people. We won't go anywhere else anymore. 😊

Nostalgia, that cafeteria has never kept up with modern times. Still has the same interior, such as black plates with white letters with snacks and prices. The display case is about 1 meter wide, and that is where the snacks are located. Awesome! Handmade fries, delicious! This should actually be on the monument list....

Vuurens never disappoints! Unfortunately I no longer live in Nijmegen, so I don't come here as often as I would like. But today I was there again and I had to conclude that Vuurens is a household name for a reason. Vuurens remains delicious!!!

A household name in the center of Nijmegen, a 75 year old cafeteria. Real fresh fries, from home-peeled potatoes. Not only for real Nijmegen residents, but certainly also as a visitor to our great city, you should definitely go there for fries.... A real family business 🙏🏼

Cafeteria Vuurens is a household name in Nijmegen. It seems as if time has stood still since the 1950s when you visit this cafeteria. The freshly cut fries turn out beautifully crispy, golden brown fried. The atmosphere is friendly and despite the limited space there are plenty of seats. The public transport bus stops next to it.

Fresh and crispy. But unfortunately quite tasteless and only “sweet” French fries sauce. Cardboard aftertaste.

Good fries. Very little. Woman behind counter very unfriendly. Snubs several customers. Grumpy all the time. Wasn't born for the catering industry. Finally, she provided a very confusing and illegible receipt.

The fries are very tasty, have a perfect taste and structure. Just like the bratwurst, undoubtedly the best I have eaten in the Netherlands. And all that for less than 5 euros. Staff is friendly and you could tell that they enjoyed their work. Definitely recommended to go if you are in the area.

The oldest cafeteria in Nijmegen that still makes home-made fries. Very few things have changed in the interior of the building over the years. The price is normal and the quality is excellent. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the city center of Nijmegen.

A reasonable snack bar with freshly cut fries. I had fries, mayonnaise with onions and frikandel for €4.50. Order was ready quickly and the staff is friendly.

The absolutely tastiest fries in Nijmegen and the right mayonnaise to go with it. A little more pricey, but the fries are more than worth it. Nice 70's atmosphere in terms of decoration. Perfect, you would think. Unfortunately, I always find the lady behind the counter (with the short hair) grumpy and you are snubbed. I won't be going there anymore, it's a shame!

Top fries for the Airfryer: First portion of fries eaten there and today I also took pre-baked fries for home in the Airfryer. Tried it right away of course. Airfyer XL: first 180 gr. Preheat to Celsius and then put the fries in the basket and put them in the Airfryer for another 6-7 minutes at 180 degrees. Celsius. Recommended!!!!!

Love this Dutch snackbar! Homemade fries with homemade "stoofvlees" are my recommendations. Been there as long as I can remember and I hope they will stay there for a long time!

Tasty fries, but the owner (presumably) is very customer unfriendly, snarky and grumpy. It had been a while ago that the fries were not cooked properly, they were still a bit raw, but I was told that that was not possible. We said yes and the fries were thrown back into the fryer and later given back to us, the same fries. Treated downright scandalously.
