Very long wait. Ordered, waited a long time, and then it turned out everything was already sold out. Not recommended.

We have ordered food and waited an hour. Apparently somehow the waitress didn't get that we ordered food and our order was not present. I do not recommend. Nice atmosphere, really bad service.

The coffee was genuinely really good, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the view. It’s a lovely place to sit and spend some time. However, I was disappointed by the €2.50-per-hour charge for using a laptop. I understand that cafés need to manage table turnover and discourage people from occupying tables for hours without ordering, but charging an additional €2.50 per hour feels excessive, especially when customers are already buying coffee and food. I think this policy could be reconsidered, particularly when the café isn’t busy. If there are plenty of empty tables, it seems counterproductive to charge customers extra simply for working on a laptop. A more flexible approach — for example, only applying the charge during busy periods or after a certain amount of time — would feel much more reasonable. The coffee is excellent and the location is great, so I’d happily come back. I just hope they reconsider the laptop policy, because at €2.50 per hour it makes spending a few hours working here unnecessarily expensive.

Tasted a very special 'superspecial', but this is also a good place to go for a 'regular' good espresso or milk-based drink. Highly recommended.

Yesterday, we attended a barista workshop at Cupp on Kanaalweg as a team outing. We learned a tremendous amount about origin, taste, aroma, and making cappuccino with latte art. The barista was incredibly skilled and infectiously enthusiastic, and the inspiring location by the water is very cozy. Highly recommended as an outing! We started the day before the workshop with a delicious breakfast and finished with lunch, where dietary requirements (gluten, vegetarian/vegan, nuts) were well taken into account. The staff is incredibly nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. The nice spots to work if needed also make this a versatile location.

Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time for our lunch, almost an hour in the end. It also took a long time for the wait staff to come to us, even though it wasn't even that busy. We found this very disappointing.

Terrible! We ordered a decaffeinated americano and a regular cappuccino. The caffeine content was reversed. We asked about the cakes, choosing from a cake that sounded exotic! It turned out to be nothing more than a bone-dry slice of cake with some cream spread and some artificial flavorings. Finally, the toilet was too disgusting to look at.

Very slow service. Liefmans was not on the menu and they priced it as the most expensive beer (€6). These are absurd prices. Waited a total of 15 minutes for a drink. And the drink was watery due to the large amount of ice in it.

We celebrated my birthday here with a high tea for 10 people, and it was an amazing experience! There was an incredible variety of food, including three different types of sandwiches, yoghurt with granola and fruits, delicious pancakes, and four different kinds of cakes. Each person also received a fresh smoothie, which was a lovely addition. The portions were generous (took some at home), everything tasted freshly made, and the quality of the food was outstanding. Considering how much food we received, it was excellent value for money. The staff were incredibly friendly, polite, and attentive, and our orders arrived surprisingly quickly despite our large group and it being a rather busy Sunday afternoon. To top it all off, the location is beautiful and conveniently close to the water and city center, making it the perfect spot for a special occasion. Highly recommended—we’ll definitely be back!

On a sunny summer morning, this is the ideal place to start the day in a relaxed way! A lovely spot in the sun, with tasty breakfast options and a nice atmosphere. I will be coming here more often!

Potentially a nice and beautiful place. However, the service still needs work. Yes, it was busy, so waiting a little longer is okay. But in terms of efficiency, it could be better; why not clear the tables immediately after payment, or take the dirty dishes with you when you walk past (that walking past was done very frequently by multiple people). As it was, several tables really weren't cleared, which isn't very inviting to sit down.

After fifteen minutes, still no mint tea.

We arrived with two small children (1.5 and 2.5 years old) and sat at a table with a broken parasol. No shade, full sun — not ideal with toddlers. We politely asked if another parasol could be placed or if one could be moved. The manager refused, arguing that “everyone will ask for that then.” We were able to move to another table ourselves — but no help or exception was forthcoming. We had booked a workshop that day and spent a considerable amount on food, but that did not seem to play a role in the decision-making process. It is a shame, because with a bit more flexibility, this would have been a lovely day. As it is, the unwillingness is what lingers most.

The people working there have a passion for the craft, but above all for the product. You see it, you feel it, and you taste it!! We had the Barista workshop, which was incredibly fun and taught with a lot of knowledge. All in all, whether it's a workshop or a lunch, Cupp is highly recommended!!

Our Coffees were good, the cappuccino and iced coffees were tasty not overly sweet, balanced taste. Truly coffee flavors, we will back for sure.

What a wonderful experience during the barista workshop at Cupps on Kanaalweg 59 in Utrecht! Upon arrival, the atmosphere immediately felt welcoming and relaxed. Next, we were taken on an inspiring journey of discovery through the multifaceted world of coffee. Trainer Laurens deserves all the praise for this. With immense passion, expertise, and energy, he managed to captivate everyone. His explanations not only provided insight but also motivated us to get to work ourselves. Thanks to his guidance, we learned step by step how a perfectly brewed cup is created. His enthusiasm was infectious and made every part interesting. The program was well-structured and offered plenty of variety. One of the highlights was the coffee game: interactive, educational, and fun all at the same time. Knowledge was tested and deepened in a playful manner, which ensured extra engagement within the group. Additionally, the homemade sweet treats were a delicious addition. Everything was prepared with care and tasted excellent. The availability of gluten-free options showed that attention was paid to different preferences without compromising on taste. One small point for improvement: more time for latte art would have made the workshop even more complete. The explanation of the techniques was clear, but to truly develop skill, extra practice is needed. An additional session would fit in well here. The place was super nice, pleasant hustle and bustle… service was top-notch, thoughtful and hospitable, and everything exudes a very relaxed atmosphere. The coffee was delicious, just like the breakfast! We will definitely go back again!

I recently took a barista course at Cupp. Highly recommended! The course was very well structured, with a good balance between receiving information, interaction/game elements, and trying things out. The instructor was very knowledgeable, knew a lot about coffee, and was great at conveying it. Absolutely recommended if you want to learn more about coffee or just want a fun outing.

A really lovely coffee shop in a beautiful location in Utrecht. The coffees and service are superb. You can also take very fun workshops there. Highly recommended!

Just having a drink. We sat waiting 20 minutes before being served, and then the drinks were forgotten as well. They are sweet, friendly girls, but perhaps a bit of maturity is needed on the floor. There are dirty plates and glasses on every empty table. Behind the bar, too, there are dirty glasses and disgusting blenders everywhere. It is a real disorganized mess! Furthermore, you get tea in a tumbler, which is odd. I don't like this as a sober alcoholic.

Unfortunately, a negative experience; very disappointing as a neighbor. Several employees were present, but no one came to take our order. In between, we asked if everything was in order. Eventually, after more than an hour, we gave up and went home to drink coffee.

We did the Barista Workshop with our company and it really exceeded our expectations. Laurens had a lot to tell and teach us about coffee, was very enthusiastic along with his colleagues, and all our employees had a very enjoyable afternoon. The food we booked afterwards (pasta) was also very tasty, and it was nice that this could simply be done at the same location. Thanks for the fun workshop!

After a rough night following the trade fair, we wanted to have a nice breakfast. Once we ordered, it took 30 to 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Then, it took another 20 minutes before our food arrived. I wasn't actually hungry anymore; the pesto toastie made up for it a bit, but for us, it's not something we would repeat.

Cupp is located in a very nice spot on the Kanaalweg. The building has a hip interior. We had a special coffee. The lunch was delicious, as was the cake. Highly recommended!

I’ve really tried to give this place a chance, on several occasions. But after the fourth bad experience in a row I feel like I need to say something. This Cupp location is a perfect stop on my weekly Sunday morning walk. It’s a good place to stop and have a coffee, or bring one along, and the location is nice, by the water with a nice view. But here’s the thing. I feel that, when your official opening time is 9am, then at 9am you should be ready to serve your customers. That is never the case here. When they open their doors at 9am (as they are obligated to by their own company rules), everything still has to be prepared. The coffee machines need to be turned on, the tables need to be made ready, the payment system has to be booted up. All preparations start when they’re already letting customers in. That is NOT how you should do it. Today was the last drop for me. I waited 15 minutes (no exaggeration) to get one tiny cup of flat white to take away. That’s just unacceptable. More staff seemed to be rolling in at 9.10 and 9.15 (seems unlikely to me that those are their actual starting shift times) and everything just took absolutely forever to do. €4,60 for a tiny paper cup of flat white (that didn’t even have a cover), while having to wait for it for fifteen minutes is really where I draw the line. I will not be coming back here again. I really tried to find some positives after four bad experiences but I can’t anymore. The only positives are factors that the staff have zero influence on (like the location), and that’s just embarrassing. So, if you’re an extremely patient person, you don’t mind frantic, hurried service, you’re ok with gritty furniture and uncleaned tables and chairs, you enjoy the company of yuppies with screaming children (not the cafe’s fault but things have a way of attracting each other) and you don’t mind paying a lot of money for what is at most mediocre coffee and pastries (I’m being really generous there), please go here every weekend. If you object to any of those things, avoid this place and go somewhere else. Maybe we’ll see each other there.

I'm sorry, but charging people to use their laptops is completely unacceptable. And that too on a big central table and on a few uncomfortable high tables. Look, I get it, a business needs to make money out of tables and someone sitting there for hours sipping on a bit of water is eating into the revenue of the cafe. But in my opinion it's perfectly reasonable to want to sit and work for an hour or an hour and a half when you ordered a drink and maybe something else. Honestly just go to Kanaal30, much better place to be on your laptop for a bit. Sure, the coffee is less good, but the attitude is much better.

The staff, etc., were fine, as was the food itself. However, the hygiene was truly appalling. The cutlery was incredibly dirty; I had to ask for new cutlery twice. There was also a layer of paper under my eggs, and I ate a piece because I didn't see it and it wasn't supposed to be there.

Our team (35 people) had a fantastic barista workshop at Cupp. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and sweet treats. The baristas kept everyone engaged, and we all got to make coffee. Everything was perfectly organized! We'll definitely be back.

Just been to this café and unfortunately had a very bad experience. We were completely ignored. Several couples who had been there longer were sitting on the right; they were immediately approached by the waitress, while we were literally sitting right next to them and also wanted to order. It took about ten minutes for my husband to ask if we could order something. We also noticed that all the other guests were automatically given a glass of water upon arrival, and their orders were taken immediately. We didn't receive a glass of water and were completely ignored; we had to initiate everything ourselves. We finally paid and left immediately. Canceling the order was no longer possible. A very unpleasant and inhospitable experience. If zero stars were possible, I would have given them.

There's a "laptop policy," meaning you pay €2.50 per hour to use an open laptop. This includes a drink. Good to know. The coffee was too lukewarm for my taste.

I love this place, Coffee is great, but you need to do something for your pastries. I have ordered four different ones over the months and all of them have barely with any taste, stale, not good. You need to have a serious talk with your bakery supplier. I am no longer ordering any pastry with my coffee. I’ve wasted enough money to a tasteless piece of something.

It's odd that a place that claims to be a "coffee specialist" serves such bizarrely bad coffee. I'm not talking about all the milk options, but about the espresso and the Americano; the lungo is even completely absent. The coffee tastes absolutely awful, which is a shame. It's a nice place with enthusiastic and friendly staff. But they do need to start using different coffee beans.

I went for breakfast, atmosphere was nice and service as well. Tea and cakes also lekker. I would go back again.

I ordered the pulled chicken with a beer, but a couple of minutes later, they told me it was no longer available. I then ordered the baked brie, and about five minutes later, another staff member came to say they couldn’t make that either — apparently, almost everything on the menu was unavailable. The only options left were the hummus bowl and the loaded hummus. A bit later, another employee unexpectedly brought me the baked brie along with an espresso I never ordered. I mentioned that I had ordered a beer instead. After a few minutes, I asked again about the beer, and they explained they were too busy with drinks, so I would have to wait. Around ten minutes later — when I had nearly finished eating — someone finally came back to tell me they didn’t have that beer either. Overall, the experience was confusing and disappointing. The food was just ok. I had to eat without a drink and when I mentioned I didn’t receive the best answer either.

It's a really nice place, beautifully decorated and quite spacious. I had a hoijcha latte and an acai bowl, both of which were delicious. The acai bowl was a bit runnier than I'm used to, but the toppings were delicious! The menu is extensive and has all sorts of delicious things, so I'll definitely be back a few more times to try the other items! Be aware that parking is very limited and expensive in this area. The only downside was that the table was very sticky, so if you can keep that in mind, it's otherwise fantastic!

Great atmosphere both inside and outside on the terrace. The service was quick, despite the place being full on a Sunday at lunch time. I would go back to grab a coffee but not for lunch. The food was basic. I took the falafel bowl, it looked like they took an entire bag of rucola from jumbo and tossed it onto the plate, combined with 5 micro falafels, 1 strawberry and half pickle. The hummus was very peppery and really good.

Definitely not worth the wait nor the price. Food was barely okay, service was super slow. We had the full breakfast for 2, coffee came 30 minutes before the food so it was cold when the food got to the table.

The service staff seems untrained, unorganized and uninterested in customers. Coffees and cakes should never take as long as it did. The kitchen area looked like no one really knew what should be done. Someone please do some efficiency training with the staff!

Took a filter coffee and a nice citrusy cake (got the bigger piece as it was the last one 😋) Coffee was pretty good, so was the cake. I liked that they source some of their coffee from Blommers, which is one of my absolute favorite roaster in the Netherlands.. well done! Another nice unique touch, which I didn't see anywhere but here yet, they give you two cups for the coffee, a wide one and a narrow one so you can have different taste profiles when you drink your coffee, nice! 😎 Not to mention the friendly service and the nice coffee chat I had with the barista there.

I always come here to get a coffee to go when I work from home. The baristas are always friendly, and on weekends I love to hang out with friends. It's a great place, and very close to home for me!

Cute little place, nice place to sit, both inside and outside. The food is excellent, but the coffee is a bit of a letdown. If you order (regular) coffee, you can choose between an Americano (which is apparently an espresso diluted with water 😖) or a filter coffee 😬. I find that really outdated and a bit sad. They also serve a lot of so-called "white coffee," but that's not really my thing. I just ordered a (very tasty) herbal tea and had coffee at home. It's a shame for a coffee bar.

We found Cupp via Google because they offer gluten-free options (great!). We sat down on the terrace and were able to order fairly quickly. We ordered a cappuccino, a chai latte, and two dishes (brunch, simple). Then the long wait began... we waited at least an hour for our drinks and food. Then I grabbed the knife from the container on the table to eat, but it was still very dirty. I politely asked the waitress for a new one because it was dirty, and it was brought (without an apology, or even a thank you). The staff made me feel like a difficult customer for pointing it out. Anyway, I started my meal only to discover I had a hair in my food. No solution was offered, just a pathetic "we'll pass it on." Unfortunately, not the experience we were hoping for. They could do better in many ways for their customers. Hygiene is everything, and we don't find this kind of thing acceptable.

A really cozy place for breakfast or lunch, but they also offer fantastic barista workshops. I've already done the barista workshop and the latte art workshop. I learned a lot from both, and my coffee at home tastes so much better!

Nice, if a bit too trendy, place. And I'm referring specifically to the beer selection. All sorts of strange names, and none of them are particularly good. A shame. The staff is very friendly, and they also have a large terrace.
