Da Gianfranco Ristorante Italiano in Hillegersberg-Schiebroek

I was last there two years ago, and honestly, it was the best Italian restaurant in Rotterdam at the time. I paid another visit today, a weekday Thursday. Upon entering, I was greeted by friendly staff, but not the same regulars from before. I got the impression that the restaurant had changed owners. We arrived at 5:30, as the first table. We left at 7:30, but the place was only a quarter full, whereas I remember that previously it was packed almost every day and you definitely had to reserve a week in advance. I ordered the Pasta Gianfranco, my all-time favorite, but it was different from how it used to be; not bad, but not what I was used to either. Until I checked Google reviews, and yes, the restaurant has been taken over. Unfortunately, for me, it is no longer worth a repeat visit. Not the quality I was used to anymore; a shame. Da Gianfranco was an icon in Rotterdam.

Had another delicious meal at this lovely restaurant. We were welcomed and spoken to in a friendly manner. There was even time for a personal chat at the table. The service is friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food. Even when leaving, the owner quickly came outside to say goodbye. Where do you still experience this? Highly recommended!

There were six of us eating here for my birthday. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. There are very few restaurants where you are still treated so warmly. The portions are quite substantial. If you are very hungry, you can certainly order a starter. But for a normal appetite, a main course, perhaps with dessert, is sufficient. Highly recommended if you want to eat Italian food.

Unfortunately, there are no Italians working there anymore, so the atmosphere is different. The place was probably sold recently; the food wasn't what I had expected either. The waitress was very friendly.

It has been taken over but is still amazing. The food is delicious, the products are still the same, and the service is good. Of course, it is slightly different than before, but that is to be expected. Incredibly friendly people. Completely satisfied; I have already been twice since the new owners took over.

I dined here recently and I can only say one thing: what an experience! Since the arrival of the new owner, Chandra, there is a fantastic new energy in the place. You feel welcome immediately upon entering; the hospitality is cordial, warm, and relaxed. Why you should go here: The Food: We had an incredibly delicious meal. Every dish was prepared with love, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The balance in the dishes is exactly as it should be in Italian cuisine: simple, pure, and top-quality. The Service: Rarely have I been served so kindly. The staff is incredibly attentive, knows what they are talking about, and ensures that you want for absolutely nothing. The Atmosphere: Sandra has a gift for creating an ambiance where you want to dine for hours. It is clear that work at Da Gianfranco is done with passion. On Wednesday, January 14th, we went to eat here again after a few months. To my utter astonishment, we were greeted by staff we had never seen before. The interior of the place hasn't changed, but the menu contained some spelling errors. Apparently, this family business has been taken over, and this hasn't been announced anywhere. That is simply deeply sad. Initially, I just wanted to leave, but the rest of the party wanted to try a pizza as a starter. We ordered two pizzas, but neither was of the same quality we were used to. We decided to pay the bill after that. I find it odd that a family business doesn't even have the decency to announce that they are closing. I don't need to know the reason, but it is sad when you come here as a regular customer! Furthermore, the old reviews should be removed because they are misleading for new customers.

An Italian restaurant that feels like an Asian restaurant. The staff is Asian and speaks English. They are super friendly though! The pastas look more like stir-fries. Didn't try the pizzas.

The world has changed, and so has Gianfranco. We come to Teldersweg every year on February 8th to celebrate our relationship, which began at this restaurant. Despite Gianfranco's departure, the food hasn't changed. The kitchen staff is the same, the menu hasn't changed, and the limoncello at the end remains. It remains our go-to place for Italian food.

Delicious Italian food with a homey atmosphere. The dishes are simple but delicious, and the portions are super generous! You'll actually be quite full with a main course, but I recommend trying some appetizers as well. One downside is the longer wait (but then you get a lot). I also thought the tiramisu for €9.50 was a bit small (see photo), especially compared to the other dishes. Maybe it was the last piece?

Cozy place, Nicely full and good atmosphere. My starter was disappointing. They could have put a bit more effort into the pizza Bianco (the starter). It was very bland and not as it should be. My wife had steamed mushrooms with gorgonzola, which was very tasty. The osso buco and lasagna as main courses were delicious. The pistachio tiramisu for dessert was also very good. So, overall, good and tasty.

The food (pizza/spaghetti) and drinks were good, as was the ambiance of this restaurant, located in the Rotterdam-Schiebroek neighborhood. It must be said that the restaurant draws people from far and wide, and the staff is friendly. All in all, it's worth visiting once or more, and you'll find it was worth the trip, leaving you with a richer memory to return home with a good feeling, thinking of returning later to where you spent your wonderful Italian evening!

Delicious food, excellent service

We went to this restaurant based on the reviews and their famous pasta parmigano. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. We expected to see the pasta being prepared in a large parmesan cheese bowl, but that wasn't the case. The pasta was made with an enormous amount of cream, so you couldn't taste any real parmesan, if there was any at all. The shrimp were frozen. Our son's spaghetti bolognese was medium and very sweet. We asked for a child's portion but still ended up paying the full 15 euros. Such a shame. We won't be back.

Eating at daGianFranco feels and tastes like you're finally coming home to Italy. The hospitality, the food, the friendliness, and the laughter. You feel like you're at home and on vacation all at once. The scallop shells are to die for, and I always order the pizza bianca as an appetizer. The pizza bianca has the delicious flavor of fresh garlic and herbs and will make your partner want to sleep alone, but this pizza is more than worth it! I'm not a picky eater, and yet I go home smiling, full, and very satisfied. Definitely check this little restaurant out if you're in Rotterdam!

Wat was het weer een feest: eten bij Gianfranco! We waren met een groep van tien personen en hebben heerlijk zitten smullen. Eerst kregen we prima antipasti: verschillende soorten vleeswaren, zalm, tonijn en salades, maar ook grote gevulde paddenstoelen. De mosselen op Sardijnse wijze waren in een mum van tijd op. De vitello tonnato was zacht van smaak en precies zoals het hoort. Daarna genoten we van verschillende pasta’s, met en zonder vlees. De bediening is prettig – niet opdringerig of overdreven amicaal. Wel belangrijk om vooraf even te bellen of langs te gaan om af te stemmen wat de bedoeling is als je met een grote groep komt. We komen snel weer een keer terug!

Porque el cocinero no es italiano. La comida era terrible, y el servicio era el peor. Además, el restaurante no está de moda y la calidad de la comida es mala y escandalosamente cara. Deja mucho que desear. Si crees que estás comiendo alimentos frescos, lamentablemente no es el caso, la mayoría de los alimentos están congelados y, en la mayoría de los casos, anticuados. Además, nos quedamos impactados y disgustados cuando vimos a la gigantesca rata que salió del bar y entró en la cocina.

You have the unfortunately standard, well-known mass production companies such as Domino's and New York Pizza, but also the wine bars that pretend to be ristorante pizzerias, such as Pavarotti. Unfortunately, these types of establishments miss the mark and give the true Italian pastry artists a deplorably bad name. Not so Da Gianfranco. You would rather expect this small cozy restaurant under a residential flat, in a residential area in North Rotterdam, on the Meent, the Westblaak or the Bergse Dorpsstraat. What a great tent this is! We were forced to order food at work because a hot meal was not provided. The majority voted for pizza, so we finally ended up at Da Gianfranco. Despite having to order in English over the phone, the waitress who took the order was very friendly and there was no confusion. "Your order will be ready in 20 minutes"..... gas on that board. Upon arrival, I saw that it was a restaurant and not a takeaway factory and was extremely surprised that the order was ready so quickly..... the place was FULL. The waitresses were very cordial and friendly. After less than 5 minutes, I received 6 hot boxes in my hands and a separate container filled with carpaccio, arugula, cheese shavings and pine nuts.... for the ordered Pizza Carpaccio. What delicious pizzas these were. "The bottom is often made of cardboard, hey!" Well, not with Da Gianfranco. If you could say it like that about dough, you could call it tender dough. Great. I once ate the tastiest pizza in Tarvisio in Northern Italy, but these are certainly no less... and it saves me almost 1300 km. Da Gianfranco in Rotterdam: Highly recommended!!!!

We ordered takeaway pizza and were able to pick it up fairly quickly: that was nice. But to be honest, the quality is not what it once was. I missed the 'spark', I didn't think the pizza was special. Prices have also risen, a pity that the ratio is now really skewed. Hopefully they can turn the tide.

We came here based on the reviews, we had an overnight stay due to a morning flight in Rotterdam and were looking forward to Italian... once we arrived we had our doubts (the neighborhood is unknown to us and seemed like a crazy environment...) but once We were warmly welcomed inside and even though we didn't have a reservation, they made the effort to give us a spot (luckily) because wow, what a wonderful place this is! This Italian restaurant is great. Delicious dishes and a real Italian atmosphere. Service is also Italian and that adds to the experience. Maybe not the cheapest restaurant, but definitely worth the money.

Delicious pizzas come very close to Italian quality. 8.8 out of 10 for me. The only downside I think is that pizzas are not cut. This would make every customer so happy!!!

Anyone looking for delicious Italian food in a very pleasant family atmosphere, this is the place. With few tables, it is necessary to make a table reservation. The best pizza in Rotterdam, a delicious lasagna, a divine parmigiana pasta and a Tiramisu with pistachios from the gods. I will always come back!!

Super tasty Italian food. Do you miss the taste of Italy? Then you have come to the right place at Da Gianfranco, run by an Italian family. Be sure to book in time. After a delicious starter, main course and dessert with espresso, we had an old-fashioned, tasteful meal. Like in Italy.

Subject: possibly discriminatory? Yesterday I went to De Gianfranco for dinner with a friend. We arrived around 5:30 PM, and considering the time of day the restaurant was still quite empty. We were kindly received and allowed to take a seat. Let me start by saying that the food was delicious. The staff was friendly, or at least they behaved that way. Yet at some point I got an uneasy feeling, which I can only describe as a form of “discrimination” (for context: my girlfriend and I both wear a headscarf). There were three moments that evoked this feeling in me: 1. My girlfriend and I had to wait almost an hour for our pasta. Although this in itself is not a disaster, it was noticeable that about half an hour after us, about ten other guests arrived, spread over three tables, and they all received their food before us. This, even though they had arrived considerably later. 2. My friend had almost empty her plate, while my plate was still at least 80% full. Yet soon a waitress stood next to us and asked if we had finished eating and if she could clear the plates. I just agreed because I didn't really feel welcome. I asked if I could take the remaining food in a doggy bag. That was fine. But I felt very rushed. 3. We had planned in advance to have dessert after dinner. But when the plates were cleared, we were immediately presented with the bill, without asking for it. It felt as if they wanted to gently but emphatically tell us that we had to leave. And this while the restaurant was not full and there were no waiting guests at the door. It seemed as if they preferred not to serve guests wearing a headscarf. While I hope I'm wrong, I couldn't help but feel like we weren't welcome. What makes this extra disappointing is that I had previously eaten at this restaurant with my Dutch in-laws and had a completely different, much more positive experience. That's why this experience stood out, especially because I wanted to introduce my girlfriend to what I thought was a nice restaurant. In short, I feel very disappointed. It is a great shame that a positive first experience was followed by such a bad impression. I sincerely hope my feeling is unwarranted, but it was too strong to ignore.

This really is an old-fashioned Italian restaurant. Very tasty food and top service. Quality and friendliness are of paramount importance here. We brought our dog with us, she was so spoiled. Received delicious treats separately from the owner and the cook. This restaurant is highly recommended if you want a pleasant and very good meal. We will definitely come back.

I'm going to try not to be too enthusiastic, but what a wonderful old-fashioned Italian restaurant. The smells when you walk in are so nice. Have eaten here quite a few times now. As a starter, the mushrooms with gorgonzola are really great. Last time I had the leg of lamb. Really insanely delicious. Not normal. Next time I'll take pictures.

Da Gianfranco has been a very pleasant Italian restaurant in Schiebroek for many years. We returned to Rotterdam after five years and we noticed that NOTHING had changed in terms of quality, service and conviviality. Compliments! Make sure you book in advance because it is very popular. Just... don't be shocked by the bill.

One of the best Italian restaurants in the Netherlands. For the starter, we ordered Schiacciata which was so-so, it was some sort of Italian garlic bread. We also ordered bruschetta which had onions in the ingredients. The bolognese pasta was super tasty, with a very flavorful bolognese sauce. Pasta carbonara was also super good. The pasta Parmigiano was tasty and creamy as well, although it had only 4 pieces of shrimp in it. The desert tiramisu was a very classic Italian taste and we all liked it. The plate that the Creme brulee was served on was clever. It was broad and shallow, which made the balance between the caramel surface and cream perfectly match.

Leuk echt italiaans restaurant. De eigenaar komt je ook een hand schudden en spreekt je italiaans aan. Het eten is er goed. Ze hebben regelmatig ook glutenvrije pizza. Zou wel even van tevoren bellen of ze deze op het moment dat jij wilt komen ook echt in huis hebben. Top!

Tweede keer in jullie Restaurant op 17 September 2023 (ronde Tafel) zoals eerste keer echt heerlijk Italiaans eten in een gezellige atmosfeer een absolute aanrader, heb overal in de Wereld gegeten, dit mede door de vriendelijke en aardige gastheer en eigenaar is een van mijn favorite knijpjes geworden. En betaalbaar een 10 met een griffel in mijn boek:)

Echt een super Italiaans restaurant en wat een geweldige ontvangst. De eigenaar heeft echt hart voor de zaak en dan mevrouw nel die helpt ook geweldig hoe ze de klanten helpt. En over het eten ja wat moet ik zeggen TOP GEWELDIG LEKKER, garnalen echt perfect. Wij gaan hier vanaf nu heel vaak komen!
