Good Italian restaurant, reasonably priced for the area. The owner who greeted and served us was very friendly. The food is good, simple and enjoyable Italian cuisine. The restaurant is clean, welcoming, and the service is efficient. If I could have given it 4.5 stars, I would have, but I can't, hence my 5 stars so as not to penalize the work of this restaurant, which deserves to be highlighted!

The truffle pasta with mushrooms was absolutely delicious and the best we've ever had. The arugula pizza was also fantastic, and the service was friendly and very attentive. We highly recommend this restaurant. Delicious!

At 12:15 PM, we arrived at the restaurant, which according to the posted opening hours was supposed to be open from 12:00 PM. A waiter who was standing on the terrace told us to leave, saying that they were closed and that we should go somewhere else.

the food and the price don't match each other. Also service is very poor . Nobody speaks Dutch( that’s why I write here in English). The place is nice, but the staff makes it very noisy. They're practically yelling at each other and pay very little attention to the customers. We got our pasta quickly, but unfortunately, by the time our pizza arrived, it was cold. The food could have been better, too. It's a shame our evening wasn't a success, but now we know where we shouldn't go for "Italian food." And a note to the owners: it is difficult to tell who works for you and who is a guest; there were no distinguishing features between them. Maybe it would be better to dress your employees in a more professional manner.

This restaurant was extremely good! The food was absolutely delicious and the staffs were all so kind. I love the atmosphere of this restaurant with all the decorations. I highly recommend this place and come back here again if I had the chance!

It was a wonderful evening with delicious food – the truffle pasta served in a Parmesan wheel was an absolute highlight and incredibly tasty. But all the other dishes were also fantastic. Absolutely fantastic!!! From the welcome to the appetizer, main course, and dessert, highly recommended! We were lucky to get a table without a reservation during the week. I therefore recommend making a reservation. We had the carpaccio, the pasta with Parmesan cheese and truffles (simply divine), and the tiramisu/crème brûlée. Everything was amazing!!! We've rarely had such a delicious evening with such attentive and friendly staff!

We ate here for the first time today, and it certainly won't be the last. In my experience, there are very few truly authentic Italian restaurants, but Messina undoubtedly belongs to that category. From the second you sit down, you know you are in good hands. The food is delicious, and the service is fast, friendly, and charming.

As Italians who love good food, during our four-day stay in Rotterdam we never missed the Italian dishes. We dined at this restaurant three out of four nights, only because the fourth night was their closing day. We tried both meat and fish, and were thoroughly satisfied. The fillet with porcini mushrooms was tender as butter, the tortelli with butter and sage were delicious, the chef's imaginative prawns were succulent. The tagliatelle with seafood was cooked to perfection, and the truffle pasta was a must-try. And the pizza could easily have been made in a pizzeria in our beautiful country. We recommend the tiramisu! As Gianni, the owner, a very friendly man, says: "Everything is good." And we can't disagree with him! TRYING IS BELIEVING

The service was super friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome immediately. The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm, cozy, and authentically Italian. The food was pretty okay. My friend and I had ordered pizzas and then desserts. The service made us quite uncomfortable-especially one of male servers (could've even been a manager). He was very pushy and a lingered a little too close when interacting with us. The rest of the servers were lovely. So unfortunately, this did affect our overall mood and dining experience.

The best restaurant in Rotterdam! We're leaving the Netherlands tomorrow after living here for four years, and we really wanted to have our last evening here before we go. Everything is always perfect: while the truffle pasta is a must-try, the entire menu is delicious—true Italian cuisine! The restaurant itself is warm and cozy. The staff is incredibly kind and professional. Gianni, the owner, is exceptional; we'll miss him as much as the food! All the servers are excellent, but we'll also miss the young man we usually saw who wasn't there tonight (the one who speaks French so well!). It was always a pleasure to see him greet us by our first names. In short, we'll definitely be back when we return to Rotterdam, and thank you for all the wonderful moments! 😄

I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Messina yesterday .The service was nothing short of exceptional—attentive, warm, and incredibly welcoming. Every staff member made us feel right at home and went above and beyond to ensure we had a perfect dining experience. the staff took the time to explain which dishes contained alcohol and which didn’t. The food—dare I say, even better than what we had in Italy.

The best thing about this restaurant is definitely the owner's warm welcome and the warm, family atmosphere. The pizzas are baked in an electric oven, and are good and simple. The service is very fast and the prices are excellent. I also appreciated the house wine in a carafe, which is very Italian osteria-style and hard to find in the Netherlands. We'll definitely be back.

Attention!! Please check your bill before leaving the restaurant. Unfortunately, I have to give this one star while also warning others. The owner was ringing up a couple in front of us, and the man immediately realized he'd been overcharged and confronted him. When we paid, the same thing happened to us. My husband overpaid by almost €10, and by the time we noticed outside, they had already closed the door because it was 10 pm. I tried calling them a few minutes later, but without success. Then I sent an email to the restaurant, but I haven't received a reply to this day. I think it's really awful to cheat and rip off customers like this.

What a gem in an unlikely location. Not only do they have a good selection of pizzas and pastas, but they also have a whole list of specials. The Italian background of the staff adds a special touch, of course. That gives it that little something extra. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time, and they were very accommodating, but I'll definitely be back!

We came here for a coworkers dinner and the food was delicious from start the finish. The Mediterranean antipasto starter was a great way to start the meal, and the truffle pasta mixed tableside was a favorite. The staff were incredibly friendly and made some great recommendations.

Pizza was average, the pasta was good but the swordfish dish lacked flavor. The owner (assuming he was the owner) was very welcoming and attentive so that’s a plus.

We had a wonderful meal at a real Italian restaurant. The owner was very friendly and funny. We devoured the pasta bolognese and Parmigiana classica down to the last crumb. It was delicious! We finished with limoncello and a lollipop for my daughter.

Crazy good, friendly staff. The small portion of tiramisu at €9.50 was a downside.

Let's start by saying that the owner is Italian (which isn't a given abroad), and that can make all the difference. The chalkboard featured a few off-menu dishes: among them, I chose "Cerasoli al salmone" and bruschetta while waiting. Unfortunately, everything arrived at once, which I pointed out, and the waiter apologized for the inconvenience. I must say, however, that the bruschetta was very tasty, with quality ingredients. But let's talk about the "primo"—ravioli filled with salmon, in a creamy salmon sauce, flavored with dill leaves. I thought I detected a few hints of citrus here and there; this dish was delicious! To finish, a semifreddo soaked in "Strega" liqueur, reminiscent of Sicilian cassata: strawberry, but especially pistachio and almond, with the obligatory candied fruit, garnished with strawberries, mint, and blueberries. A perfect ending! The price was fair, considering we're in the Netherlands. Italian quality, very satisfied!

After 10 days of international food touring the Netherlands, not only did we find superb Italian food (far superior to many Italian restaurants in Italy!!!), but we felt right at home! Thank you, Gianni, because your cooking is SUPERB: from spaghetti with clams (with garlic and chili pepper, of course!), to the pizza our daughter had, to the linguine with shrimp, to the tagliatelle with truffle, the signature dish!!! Food was not warm for some reason The spaguetti was tasting more like cheap palm and seeds oil. ( instead of olive oil which would be normally used in a good Italian restaurant ) The fish was over grilled , skin burnt and with an overall bitter burnt flavor Ok a surgeri was performed to make it possible to eat some fish , once we were there we had to make that work somehow But the WORST situation was when the OWNER came to our table and said “ Wow , you were hungry “ That was such a lack of class and politeness that me and my wife were speechless and totally outraged ! We’ve paid an expensive check for a cheap food and immediately left the place due to the lack of class from the owner Definitely NEVER coming back !!! Great food, great service. Ticks all the boxes for a friendly neighbourhood Italian restaurant. Five stars minus one: the "medium" sized beer is still ridiculousy small at a ridiculously high price ... not worth it!!

We were very well attended to by what seemed to be the owner of the establishment. A native Italian, who spoke loudly, haha. It conveys the message that the food is truly Italian. In the end, the food was perfect. Generous portions and incredible flavor. On the way out, we were even given a gift by the waiter (whose name I'm sorry I don't have) who was super friendly and gave us a small dose of liqueur to celebrate our honeymoon. It's not a touristy restaurant, which brings peace of mind to us tourists 🫶

Perfect pizza, great lasagna, friendly service. So why only 2 stars? Because €5.50 for a 0.25l beer is simply too much — and they call that Medium size. Hold on: a medium beer is 0.25l and costs €5.50? That’s a no-go. Despite the delicious food and good service, we won’t be coming back.

Lekker eten, attent en aardig personeel, top Italiaanse avond. Mijn vriendin en ik aten bij Messina en hadden de Italiaanse Antipasti voorgerechtenmix besteld. Daarna de fettucini met porcini en truffel in de parmigiano regiano bereid. Zeker een aanrader. Gianni en zijn personeel zijn heel aardig en het eten was top!
