Wir durften am Sonnabend das vier Gänge-Überraschungsmenue genießen. Im Vorfeld hatten wir Präferenzen mitgeteilt, die mtoll umgesetzt wurden. Das junge Serviceteam hat einen kompetenten sehr freundlichen Job gemacht, jeder einzelne Gang war auf den Punkt, lecker und eine positive Überraschung folgte der nächsten. Eine 100 % Empfehlung, wir kommen bei unserem nächsten Groningen Besuch gern wieder.

Wat een ontzettend goed en gezellig restaurant. Feest op een bordje. Verfijnde smaken, heerlijke wijnen. Wij hadden het viergangen menu. Wij zijn kleine eters maar de porties zijn precies goed dus we konden het allemaal op. Alleen hiervoor was het de trip van 250 kilometer waard. We komen zeker terug.

Leuke ontvangst. Vriendelijke en deskundige bediening. Ongedwongen sfeer. Hele mooie gerechten, goed op smaak. De borden waren net schilderijtjes, zo mooi! ( en lekker). Leuk ook de “bier-pairing” (dwz bier passend bij het gerecht). Wat je eet is een surprise : allergieën en “als je bv geen vis eet” kun je vooraf of ter plekke opgeven. Fijne zondag avond gehad! Je kiest uit 3,4 of 5 gangen. Aanrader!

Absolutely everything about this experience was absolutely fabulous. Every course was prepared with a lot of thought, the staff was super sweet, the price was unbeatable and the water was free at the table. I wouldn't change a thing. They deserve the rating in full! We hope to return and eat again here.

We came to De Betere Tijden with a friend who has allergies, and we asked for clarification about the menu. The waitress calmly explained everything; nothing was too much trouble. She knew exactly what was in it and was very helpful. You don't see that everywhere anymore. We sat in the corner by the window, with a lovely atmosphere and warm lighting. That made it even more special.

Definitely had a nice meal with 5 courses and matching wine. Even with summer temperatures it was pleasant to sit inside. Absolute recommendation! And not to forget the legendary brioche bun

Jídlo bylo moc fajn , úroveň michelinske restaurace , ale obsluha sice příjemná , ale neschopná reagovat. Dlouhy čas na objednání vody či lístku , následně dlouhý čas na servis - odneseni talířů z předchozího chodu. Restauraci velmi poškozuje pomalá reakce personálu a nedostatečná profesionalita.

Delicious food, highly recommended. We really enjoyed the 5-course dinner. The cheese platter was the best we have ever had, very extensive with a nice tasting of ports. This restaurant is not necessarily cheap, but the price-quality ratio is good!

Two 'Brabanders' left their province to travel to the 'high north' and found a restaurant which made them feel very much at home. We sometimes think we have a sole claim on 'bourgondisch' lifestyle in the Netherlands but would be clearly wrong in claiming so. De Betere Tijden served us with 5 courses of loveliness and some very nice accompanying wines for a very fair price. The tone was immediately set with some creative and surprisingly good tastes of the amuses. Not a single course disappointed but the fishy starters and cheese plateau were definitely my highlights. We were treated to a wide selection of cheeses and not the usual selection of three or four but ten different cheeses with a range of five ports to accompany them. Service was fun and chatty but also very attentive (small things like the unasked swapping out of almost empty water bottles and rushing to collect the breadcrumbs I had inadvertently swept from our table and had no place to leave). The restaurant itself looked neat and tidy and the large bathroom was very nice too. Certainly no sound issues where we were seated as conversation was easy with some nice music playing in the background. That said, to our surprise the restaurant's 8 o'clock timeslot was not fully booked on a saturday (come on Groningen, why not!?).

Wow, wat een fantastische ervaring. Laat ik beginnen met de prijs-kwaliteitverhouding: die is écht dik in orde. Elk gerecht is zijn prijs meer dan waard. De medewerkers, zowel in de keuken als in de bediening, hebben alles haarfijn in de gaten. De gastvrijheid en service zijn van een uitzonderlijk niveau: oprecht, attent en professioneel. De gerechten zelf? Stuk voor stuk van hoge kwaliteit, met gewaagde smaakcombinaties en een mooie afwisseling die je smaakpapillen echt prikkelt. Geen kleine haute cuisine-porties, maar royale borden die je zeker niet met honger achterlaten. Het is duidelijk dat hier met liefde en vakmanschap wordt gekookt. Ik ben onder de indruk. Dit restaurant verdient alle lof en ik weet zeker dat ik hier nog vaak terug ga komen. Dank voor deze prachtige culinaire beleving!

Habíamos reservado unos días antes y me alegró que habíamos ya que el restaurante estaba muy ocupado. Tuvimos un menú sorpresa de 5 platos, y había un Amuse Bouche servido primero solo para abrir el apetito! El entrante fue salmón, que se derritió en la boca, luego un plato de carne de res de inspiración japonesa, servido con un bollo de bao fresco, seguido por el plato principal de 2 tipos de cordero, delicioso y desierto de fresa helada y gel de ruibarbo con varias otras adiciones. Terminó todo con una fantástica selección de quesos, 10 variedades! Todos los platos fueron servidos con su propio maridaje de vinos, el queso con oporto, pero podríamos haber tenido un maridaje sin alcohol En toda esta comida fue delicioso y una experiencia muy agradable. El restaurante, aunque ocupado estaba muy relajado y no tenía prisa en absoluto, se podía preguntar al personal de servicio cualquier cosa sobre la comida y estaban encantados de decirle. Highly recommended. Had dinner with a group of 7 people last night. The food was fantastic. We had the 4-course menu. The lactose-free and vegetarian options of the surprise menu were also great. My friend with lactose intolerance has never been so positive about a lactose-free surprise menu. The staff was very friendly, well-trained and knew a lot about the wines.

Gisteravond hebben we echt genoten van een geweldige culinaire ervaring! Elk gerecht was een smaakexplosie op zich, met verfijnde combinaties die onze smaakpapillen verwende. De opmaak van de borden was niet alleen mooi, maar ook kunstzinnig, waardoor je meteen zin kreeg om te proeven. Wat het helemaal afmaakte, waren de bijpassende alcoholvrije drankjes die waren een perfecte aanvulling op de gerechten. Ze zorgden ervoor dat de smaken van het eten nog intenser naar voren kwamen. De bediening was ook top! Het voelde allemaal heel persoonlijk en gastvrij, wat de ervaring nog aangenamer maakte. Echt een perfecte balans tussen lekker eten en uitstekende service! Een fantastische avond die we niet snel zullen vergeten! Een betaalbare onvergetelijke avond!

To put it bluntly: it was the perfect choice for our dinner in Groningen and completely impressed us in every way. Beautifully and modernly furnished, not too large, with a pleasant atmosphere. The staff, from reception to departure, were professional, friendly, relaxed, and personable. The price for a four-course meal of this quality, at €50, is absolutely reasonable. Added to that was a delicious amuse-bouche of a cracker with pieces of sea bream, a sweet potato cappuccino with curry and yogurt foam, and a starter of a homemade panna cotta lollipop (vanilla yogurt). We had the surprise menu in the following order: salmon sashimi, pearl barley, tomato and cucumber pickles with dressing, followed by a fluffy ban filled with cabbage, beef rib with mashed potatoes, pak choi, edamame, baby mushrooms, soybeans, sesame cream, and bulgur sauce. This was followed by sirloin with chimmichurri, dark hollandaise with garlic, slightly sour asparagus, and sous vide asparagus, tender meat between mashed potatoes, special fries, followed by kefir sorbet with sticky rice (mochi), plum jam with strawberries, kefir bubbles, vanilla sauce, strawberry-flavored crunchy rice cake, and rhubarb jelly. As mentioned, thumbs up! It was absolutely fantastic and a lot of fun. Thank you for this consistently high standard and attention to detail. We'll be back.

Well, I'm used to a lot, but I can't say anything else than that we had a royal meal here. Dishes with a lot of culinary taste experience and beautiful to look at. But that's not all; the people in the service are aware of every table and clearly enjoy their work. I don't think it's possible to prevent it from being noisy in such a space, because that's a minus point. Finally, the price/quality ratio is more than fine.

Fine dining according to formula. Better to have one thing consistently good than a lot of choice and then a little good. And that works very well. Good preparations, nice taste, well portioned, sometimes the dishes lack a bit of coherence, but I like the presentation. In addition to a wine arrangement, also a juice or beer arrangement. So nice and relaxed. The story occasionally needs a little more finishing touches. Ribeira del Duero is not a grape variety ;-). Service enthusiastic but a bit rushed. That will be the weekend, we normally prefer to go during the week, for that reason too.

Aunque había olvidado mencionar cualquier alergia o intolerancia al hacer la reserva, el equipo extremadamente amable y servicial implementó o cumplió completamente nuestros cambios espontáneos. La comida era excelente y los vinos excelentes. El servicio fue muy cortés. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo.

The restaurant is very attractively decorated and a good opportunity to eat outside the hustle and bustle of the center. There is no menu, but you choose 3 to 5 courses and indicate what you do not like or are allergic to. You can choose from wine, beer or juices to accompany it. The dishes are tasty, fun and surprising combinations. Especially the cheese board with 10 types of cheese with 3 different accompanying drinks. A good alternative to the established order.

We thoroughly enjoyed a menu that can rightly be called a surprise menu. Especially for someone like me who is not really used to culinary delights, every course is a taste sensation. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the recipe for the intermediate course with the piece of spare rib meat from the waiter 😅 The corridors come together a bit quickly, but you know that in advance. Next time please take into account the time of arrival so that we have just a little more time. Because we will definitely come back one day.

Wat een prachtig restaurant Alles klopte! Goede wijn en eten was super! De wensen kon je aangeven, des te groter was de verassing. Met tussengerechten was het echt genieten. En als je een gerecht je teveel was moest dat wel op tijd aangeven en werd zelfs van de rekening gehaald. Dat was het geval bij 1 van onze dames. Niet voor niets een hoge score! De bediening was ontzettend gastvrij.

Een hele leuke avond gehad met een 5 gangen menu incl kaasplankje met 10 soorten kaas en een proeverij aan port en wijn. Mooie variatie in de gangen en zeer leuke en kundige gastheer/gastdame. Kortom, aanrader!

La comida y el vino era excepcional y el servicio era realmente genial también. El ambiente era acogedor y amable, no demasiado elegante. Aunque no estamos acostumbrados a cenar bien, no nos sentimos fuera de lugar.

Just had a delicious meal here. Quite a surprise. Wishes are taken into account. Wonderful sensation for the mouth, the chefs really know what they are doing. The staff is friendly, well cared for and can tell you all the facts about both the food and the wines that you can order with it. Went here after a friend's recommendation without knowing what to expect, but we will definitely come back here again!

I give it 3.5 stars. We dined here on Friday evening. They work two shifts, and we had the early shift (5:15 PM) where we had to be gone by 8:45 PM at the latest. They serve a standard four-course chef's menu. This began with two amuse-bouches. The first course was red mullet with Andalusian herbs. It was a cold dish, and the Andalusian herbs were very overpowering. Next came the scallop with black truffle, which tasted good. The main course was a piece of venison fillet. The venison was well-prepared, but everything around it was so overpowering that my dining companion finished it. Between the main course and dessert, there was a dessert amuse-bouche. This was a bavarois with blood orange. The dessert itself was a dish with Marsala herbs. All the dishes were hit or miss, and unfortunately for me, more of a miss. (My dining companion enjoyed the meal.) It wasn't quite to my liking. The wines served were quite flamboyant, which is to be expected with bold flavors. The service was friendly, but everything was served at a very fast pace, and it felt very rushed. We were already out the door by 7 p.m.

Nice restaurant with personal attention from highly motivated employees. Even the cook stopped by. The food was tasty and surprising. Good bubbles, good wine.

Gisteren samen met mijn dochter hier gegeten. Onvergetelijke ervaring! Het eten was geweldig, supermooi opgemaakt en heerlijke smaken. Door ziekte ben ik snel vol maar het personeel was zo lief om het overgebleven eten in bakjes te doen. Het personeel is vakkundig en professioneel maar ook vriendelijk en toegankelijk. Zeker de moeite waard om nog eens te bezoeken!

Nice to eat here as an experience for the flavors. Admittedly I didn't like everything (especially the dessert) but overall it was excellent food. As a big eater, I would have expected a little more bread or filling rounds in between. You may leave here hungry, but as a small eater you won't. Toilets are clean and equipped with rituals soap and towels. Thoughtful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is good. Waiting staff can tell you what is in each dish. I have experienced that this was not the case (at a Michelin star restaurant). So, bravo!

When you enter there is a very cozy living room atmosphere. Furthermore, friendly and good service. And of course also important, delicious food. We would love to visit you again :)

We drove 130 km to eat again at De Betere Tijden. It was worth it in every way. We enjoyed the 4 course menu. The many components resulted in a taste explosion with every course. The service was brisk and polite. The new rooms are modern, attractive and invite you to linger. We'll be back!

The best place for dinner in Groningen, never misses, lovely staff and outstanding food. It’s my go to place when people come to visit. I am also gluten intolerant and they catered for this amazingly.

First and foremost: we enjoyed excellent (surprise) dishes here, without exception a special taste experience. The (eventual) service was very friendly, she was knowledgeable about both the dishes and the (pairing) wines. In that respect, an absolute must! Unfortunately, a big slip: we arrived 15-20 minutes before the reserved arrival time, and we were casually told that we had to walk around outside, in the freezing cold and with people of respectable age among us. You really can't do this as a restaurant with apparent aspirations. Especially because our table was ready and you normally just warmly welcome your guests, seat them and pour them an aperitif. When we returned at the agreed time, there was suddenly a line in front of the door, so apparently they want everyone to come at the same time so that a line forms and this attracts even more guests. I can't explain it otherwise. Serious professional area for improvement.

Een uitverkochte zaak op maandagavond. En na het dessert begrijp je ook waarom! Een heerlijk diner, attente gastheren en -dames, heerlijke, echt goede wijnen per glas... Kom er eens om tegenwoordig. Rekening redelijk in verhouding tot het gebodene. Herhalingsgevaar!

Had dinner here yesterday, it was a late Christmas menu. Sublime! What great flavour combinations. Favourites were the raw sea bass and the venison steak. You can taste the passion for cooking in everything that is served. The accompanying wine arrangement was also a good choice Perhaps until next time, definitely eat here again when we leave Oldenzaal for Groningen :)

Wat een fijne avond hadden we bij Betere Tijden. De bediening is zo attent en leuk, de gerechten zijn enorm verrassend en goed op elkaar afgestemd. Een bijpassend sap arrangement voor iemand die geen alcohol drinkt: wat een uitvinding. De inrichting is heel gezellig. Akoestisch nog wel wat te verbeteren, je kunt de buren en achterburen letterlijk verstaan en de geluiden zijn best hard. Wat zacht materiaal onder de tafels en een paar grote gordijnen aan de straatzijde en dat is ook opgelost. Dan gaat het van een 9,5 naar een 10 :-)

Tasty dishes and matching drinks made this a successful evening. Thanks for this. The last missing star on atmosphere is a personal feeling. I thought the decor fell short of the warm feeling the people there give you.

Wij hebben heerlijk gedineerd met z’n vieren. De gerechten zowel de vlees als de vega zijn met aandacht en creativiteit bereidt. Er ontbreekt alleen de optie om alcoholvrij feestelijk mee te proosten. Geen alcoholvrije wijn, cava of cocktail, niet meer van deze tijden. Hopelijk komen er betere tijden ;-) voor de alcoholvrije gasten

At this restaurant you are presented with a culinary adventure, you decide whether it is 3, 4 or 5 courses and whether you want a wine or beer arrangement. The quality is high and I really enjoyed all the delicious flavor combinations that were presented to me. Something went wrong with the service and the person who tasted the wine forgot to finally fill the glass. Location is excellent and the decor is contemporary.
