What a cozy cafe. And delicious beers. And good bitterballen. And friendly service.

Very interesting atmosphere and an impressive (though pricey) beer selection, with 2/3 glass portions. Unfortunately, the staff seemed quite indifferent — not rude, but clearly uninterested, which took away from the overall experience.

You have become very expensive compared to before...But still a very cozy pub with 9 beer taps and very tasty snacks. The old farmer's cheese with a brown beer is really recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Love this old fashioned bar! The spotted cow! Good beer and nice service. Been here a few times now. Still my favorite bar although I could not get Bitterballen this time, some is broken. Our service gal is great!

What a very nice, beautiful and atmospheric brown pub in the center of Leiden. Everyone should come here for a beer! In addition, the bitterballen are of exceptionally good quality and the cheese comes whole on the shelf, perfect! The staff is super friendly and you simply never want to leave! One of the best bars in the Netherlands!!!

This is for me the best “kroeg” in town! The atmosphere is out of this world. All generations reach this place. I love the fact that they place frequently seasonal flowers on every table, it’s a nice touch. The music vibe hits you with a smile. I always meet gorgeous people, as the place is so tiny, you easily end up sitting with other people.

Nice cozy cafe. It is quite cramped with limited seating space. So there is a chance that there will be no room when you arrive. It's hidden in an alley but is easy to find. Nice cafe if you don't feel like crowds around you.

Always fun, often something special. Great performance by a jazz band last night as part of jazz week

Very nice pub, good prices and great atmosphere.

Stopped for a couple of drinks December 2023. We were here for opening and it was nice and quiet. It soon packed out - clearly a popular place. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and helpful with choosing beers. This bar has a great feel about it and it's well worth a visit. We were the only tourists and the locals were also friendly and keen to talk to us about our trip.

Keuze uit vele heerlijke wisselende biertjes en lekker bitterballen. Het is een klein kroegje met een nostalgische sfeer. Zeker aan te raden om bij een bezoek aan leiden wat te gaan drinken.

Fijne kroeg, was erg gezellig voor een maandag met goede muziek.

Stond geen muziek aan was een saaie bedoening.

Burgers zijn aan te raden. Fijne plek voor een borrel en eventueel een hapje eten.

heerlijke tent, met afwijkend maar lekker bierassortiment, kom ik zeker terug!

Prachtig café, mooie inrichting en sfeer, goed assortiment bieren (waaronder Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Chimay) en vriendelijke bediening. De bitterballen zijn hier geweldig.

Cosy and quirky traditional Belgian beer cafe with a great variety of beers on tap. Worth visiting to see the interior decorations. Built as a butchers but converted to a bar. Very cool!

Altijd gezellig en leuk publiek.

Gezellig café... Ik heb er een keer een zeer geanimeerd gesprek gehad met de schrijver Maarten Biesheuvel, waarna we samen het gedicht Het Huwelijk (Willem Elsschot) declameerden. Iedereen viel stil en luisterde. Het leverde ons een biertje van het huis op 😎

One of the best bars in Leiden. I love the decor. The place has a classic feel to it with delicious chips and bitterballen. I cannot express in words alone how good these chips were. Vegetarian bitterballen. Great choice of lowland beers too. I wish more places were like De Bonte Koe, instead of the generic avocado on toast and nachos kinds of modern places.

Leuk klein café. Heerlijke speciaal bieren op de tap. Unieke tegelwanden van de voormalige slagerij.

Oudste café van Leiden, klein en vol, bijzondere sfeer en goede briefkaart.

Gezellig knus kroegje met leuk terrasje. Vriendelijk personeel die weet welke biertjes aan te raden zijn. Hapje eten is er ook lekker. Wij spreken hier vaak af als we met vrienden afspreken.

Opvallend leuke kroeg die er van buiten eerder uit ziet als een stamkroeg maar dat dus niet is. Lekkere snacks voor bij het bier. Daarmee doen ze hun lokatie, die vroeger een slagerij was, eer aan. De rekening is wel vaak een potje, dus let goed op dat je niet teveel of te weinig afrekent.

Leuk gezellig café, lekker druk maar je kon elkaar goed verstaan zonder dat je hoeft te schreeuwen naar elkaar! Bediening was ook super, moest alleen even wennen aan de schuifdeur hahaha maar ik ben binnen gekomen

A great authentic local pub in the heart of Leiden with an interesting history how the terrace was built 😂 the beers are great, and recommend the Wilderhan Goud! The traditional snacks are good too. The server is very kind and she is works like a warrior! She is awesome 😎 highly recommend this cool pub and seeing how the locals chill out.
