Popular place right at the market square with a bustling terrace. Because it can be so busy I guess experience may very a bit. Plenty of waitresses and waiters though. I had the luck of having an amazing waitress this time. Friendly, joyfull helpfull really makes the whole experience better. I started with the special soup which was a mustard soup and absolutely delicious. It had salmon instead of bacon and some spring onion accompanied by some really good freshly baked bread. 10/10. Then I had the pork belly with some delicious potato mash and bok choy. The taste was great, however I wish there was more mash and vegetables and a little less pork belly. Though the taste was great it was very salty and the mashed potato was sooo good but just a tiny amount. The mash and garnish can really help balance the meal so it felt heavier on the meat and out of balance which ruined an otherwise perfect meal. Because everything else was good I can only give it 4 stars. Other dishes looked really good too so this is definitely still a place to recommend. It can be crowded so it's not a place for peace and quiet but with a good waitress you'll have a good time here. Staff is fast and friendly.

This afternoon, I tried to have lunch at De Boterlap in Harderwijk. The service was quick regarding drinks; we did have to wave to order our food, but they came right away. I had ordered a bouillabaisse and my daughter a tuna salad sandwich. Unfortunately, my soup wasn't good; it tasted like soap. My daughter tasted the same. After my daughter mentioned to an older, male employee that I didn't like the soup, it was indicated that this was absolutely impossible as it is ordered very often and is, if not the best fish soup in the whole of the Netherlands. He always put his heart and soul into it, he said. It was possible that I didn't like fish soup that much. He left the soup untouched and didn't take it away for me to taste. I froze and didn't know what to say. I didn't take another bite of it because I really didn't feel well. My daughter's sandwich was delicious, so that wasn't the issue. When I mentioned again to a female employee while paying that the soup was not good and tasted like soap, and that this might be due to the soup bowl, and that I would appreciate it if they would taste the soup, she indicated that it could not be due to the soup bowl. With a 'goodbye', we were able to leave.

Very cozy terrace. Everything looks very good. That's why we decided to have lunch here. But the food really wasn't tasty. Had a lunch special with a cold-smoked salmon sandwich with a poached egg. A bit green. Sandwich with a shrimp croquette. But not a single bit of spread on the bread. Or a little bit of dressing on the lettuce. It was all very meager and dry for €20. The fish soup was really super tasty 👌🏻👌🏻 My husband had a sandwich from Vis van Dries. It was very tasty, but also very little for the price you pay: €19. Then we used the toilet; you really don't want to go there. All the toilets were very dirty.

Ordered a steak with peppercorn sauce medium rare; it was decent, only the peppercorn sauce was stale. Otherwise, cozy, nice, good service, polite staff, customer-friendly. Highly recommended.

Just had a drink with the three of us: 2 craft beers and a cocktail. The beer was really lukewarm and therefore not tasty. After just one sip, I immediately complained to the waitress. She indicated that it was due to the weather, that it was so hot. In my opinion, it wasn't that bad, 27 degrees. I paid well over 24 euros for this disappointment. This is the last time for me.

Service is prompt, nothing to complain about. Baglet with herb butter: the butter melted quickly. Also, far too little for the number of rolls you get. The carpaccio is watery and far too heavily topped with an abundance of cheese and tomatoes. Just really not tasty. Additionally, a roll was served with the carpaccio that was extremely dry. Also, cold fries with dry, hard chicken nuggets. The accompanying salad was dried out and not tasty. Disappointing experience, what a shame!

Nice location, had to wait a long time for service, outrageous prices, a small soup for 9 euros or a dame blanche in a wine glass for 12.50 euros, I understand that you have to make money, but this goes too far, I have no other words for it.

The food was delicious, and the price was completely justified given the excellent quality and quantity! The staff was extremely friendly, patient, and incredibly fast; even with many guests, the food arrived very quickly. Highly recommended, especially for families.

Having lunch on the terrace on a summer day, good quality and friendly service

The croquette and fried egg sandwich were cold! If you want butter on your bread, you have to pay a euro for it as well, and the fried egg sandwich here is served with one egg on one bun instead of at least two eggs and two buns as it should be, without ham and cheese, so it is basically just an egg sandwich! All in all, not recommended.

We had a delicious meal; the eel and salmon brioche were very tasty, and the carpaccio was also more than good. For the main course, we both had steak, cooked exactly as we requested. The meat was nice and tender! The fries were unusual (Spanish), but it was something different for a change and tasty! The service was prompt and polite! In short, highly recommended!

Waiting half an hour for service, drinks are way too expensive, food is way too spicy, and we even like spicy food; even the fries set your tongue on fire. For 26 euros you get a satay with 2 pieces of chicken.... you have to wait fifteen minutes for every round of drinks. All in all, this was a bad experience; we really enjoyed ourselves here every year, next year somewhere else!!!

What a cozy cafe/restaurant. Very friendly staff. We only stopped here for a quick drink because we were on time, but the lunch and dinner menu looks very good. The dishes that passed by looked very good. Next time we will go here for a bite to eat.

Fries with pulled chicken, goat cheese salad, smashed avocado toast, chicken nuggets – all very, very tasty and therefore excellent value for money. Very friendly service. A must-try on any visit to Harderwijk.

The crispy schnitzel, for which you have to pay no less than 32 euros, was a deep-fried frozen schnitzel that had been fried for far too long. It was just like a brick. The "Spanish Fries" were fries with red peppers and onion. What a disappointment this visit was; not worth repeating.

Watching the Dutch national team against Sweden, first 3 screens, later 2 and 1 small one, sound so soft that only the people at the front could hear anything. Football without any atmosphere. Rushed home. Food small portions, carpaccio not like I used to be used to, very little weight on a stick. Served plain, just a bowl of fries. Mayo costs an extra 1.25. Why not a mega screen with awesome sound like at the European Championship?

Sad, when you order Chef's Choice of Meat for €65 and get fries with it where half are fresh out of the fryer and the other half are cold. And the vegetables next to the meat are also cold and dried out, and the little pot of mashed potatoes? Lukewarm, of course. The service was top-notch. But in the kitchen, they take incomprehensible shortcuts, even though it wasn't busy. As the owner, I would be fed up with that. (I didn't mention it on the spot because I know my party doesn't like hassle in a restaurant, and I wasn't the one paying either.)

We've been here three times over the years now. Great location with very friendly and attentive staff. Delicious sandwiches prepared in various ways. We'd love to come back again sometime.

Had a delicious mocktail, the Pink 0.0 Spritz. That is definitely recommended! Nice terrace where you can sit in the nice weather. It is a busy terrace though.

Yes, we scored a delicious sandwich here. It was really fantastic; it was an egg sandwich. (No idea what it's called anymore.) But really incredibly tasty. And not exactly a huge plate full that you have to mash down. But just right, as it should be. Highly recommended. Furthermore, it was very busy. But that is a good sign.

Anyone looking for delicious fish will be very happy here. Besides the standard dishes, they also offer the catch of the day. The service is also very attentive; they can even provide reading glasses for the menu. For good food, this is the best place in Harderwijk.

Very friendly welcome, but after we ordered drinks, the server took at least 25 minutes to take our food order. Guests arriving after us were served sooner. The food was good, but the toast was unfortunately in the toaster a bit too long. Too hard to cut. What a shame!

Unfortunately, after lunch, the experience with the restroom was unsatisfactory. The toilet was dirty and the toilet bowl was missing a seat. So, we just went to the restroom at the tourist information office.....

Whenever we are in Harderwijk, a meal at Der Boterlap is a must.

First: Excellent service. Because I am a light eater, I chose the 'Half Veal Schnitzel'. Still €26 (!). We were surprised that there seemed to be a slice of ham inside the schnitzel. Had we accidentally ordered a cordon bleu after all? No, the slice of meat (the thickness of a 'slice of ham') *was* the schnitzel! It looks fine on your plate, but 80% is just breading/egg! Moreover, it's deep-fried. How bad... Hire a chef who knows his trade. You can safely skip the starter for €19 pp (so you're €38 out the door). A total farce. It looks nice, but it's just a way to rake in a lot of money for a few frills. I am happy to pay a little more for good food, no problem. But this is really not worth it. Don't let yourself be taken advantage of. These are greedy people.

You can sit there, but they won't come to you if the terrace is open. Something about customer friendliness and engagement.

Pleasantly busy for a weekday Tuesday.

De Boterlap has been our go-to spot for a drink on the terrace in the center of Harderwijk for many years. Prompt service by friendly young people, reasonable prices, and delicious food. And if the weather cooperates, it is a great place to be on the terrace!

A small café serving lunch; with coffee they offer small coffee liqueurs with a thick layer of whipped cream for free, we were allowed to bring our dog in 🥰, the food was okay too, there are lots of soups, toasties and fried food in the Netherlands, we chose it that way 😂 all in all very nice and tasty....

We actually ended up here quite by chance, as many shops in the Netherlands are closed on Mondays, and we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere with the open kitchen is great, the service was very attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. The fries with truffle mayo are the best I've ever had.

February 13, 2026 I was sitting on the patio with a friend. After 10 minutes, we still hadn't been helped. I politely approached a waitress and asked, "Can I order something please?" Her response was very unfriendly, "You can see I'm busy." I immediately felt uneasy.

Had a New Year's reception. It was well-organized.

Everything was fine. Unfortunately, the server wanted to turn off the outdoor heater while we were still eating. Electricity would have been too expensive! We were a party of five!

An experience as it should be. Delicious food, a fantastic steak with flavorful barbecued vegetables, delicious desserts, and a liqueur to go with your coffee. You can tell they're making an effort for you. Friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

Way too expensive for the food you get. 78 euros for 2 people for a mixed grilled plank. A small piece of salmon, a bit of beef, a chicken leg, and 2 prawns. The grilled vegetables consisted of 1 carrot cut in half, 2 slices of zucchini and 2 slices of eggplant, 2 asparagus spears, and 2 pieces of endive. And this for 2 people. I'm sorry, but paying so much for this is outrageous. Do you want mayonnaise with your fries? Sure, but 1 euro 20 for a small container of mayo... So, this is a one-off and never again.

The food was incredibly delicious, but what really stood out was the incredibly friendly staff! Young people who provide incredibly hospitable, helpful, cheerful, and fast service. Highly recommended!! We'll definitely be back!

Cozy restaurant with an open kitchen. You can watch the chefs prepare everything. We started with a deluxe bread roll with four different spreads. For our main course, we opted for a mixed platter, which included a piece of salmon, prawns, chicken, steak, sirloin steak, and various grilled vegetables. The platter had two sauces: a béarnaise and a pepper sauce. The meat and fish were perfectly seasoned and very tender. This platter also came with a small bowl of fresh Spanish fries with chili peppers. They also served three sauces with it: aioli, mayonnaise, and a refreshing, delicious chimichurri. For dessert, we chose a chocolate cake with a scoop of Snickers ice cream. A dame blanche with delicious warm chocolate sauce. And two scoops of Snickers ice cream. The service was very polite, attentive, and ensured you didn't have to ask for drinks, and the food arrived within a reasonable timeframe. Our experience was an 8.5 for this cozy and clean restaurant. Kudos 👍🏻

I had a quick bite to eat on Sunday. The price-quality ratio isn't right; it's too expensive for what you get. I had fish soup for my main course, €23. I didn't know there were so many potatoes in the sea; it had more potato slices than fish. The fish in it had a lot of bones. According to the staff, that always came with fish :-(

The waiters were very rude and inattentive. Cream was spilled on me, and there were no napkins on the table. When I mentioned it, they brought me a crumpled napkin from inside, and it felt like toilet paper. Our dessert arrived very late and wasn’t good, but beyond that, the service was terrible.

Delicious food in a beautiful location in the lively center of Harderwijk, with friendly staff. If you love fish, you'll be pleased to know they have a wide selection of "fish of the day," all perfectly prepared. They're also open every day of the week, so you can dine out early in the week as well.

Coffee in the sun! Apple pie, unfortunately, looks and tastes average, frozen pie. The coffee was good. The waiter was rather self-assured and showed little empathy when I commented that I couldn't really find "Veluwe" in this Veluwe apple pie. He very firmly and emphatically claimed they were made with real Veluwe apples and by real Veluwe bakers. Well... It wasn't bad, but it wasn't tasty either.😏

De Boterlap in Harderwijk has a lovely, large terrace. However, all the chairs are covered in bird droppings. They're the only ones in the market that suffer from this problem. So, go with old clothes.

This is the kind of shop where you just end up getting annoyed, and that applies to several other shops in the city center, and the young staff...especially during the tourist season, they get stressed out quite quickly...too bad, there's plenty to do outside the city center. Recommended: 'De keet van Kees&Lotte' in the Slingerbos. .

Beautiful spot in the heart of Harderwijk. Made a mistake on the bill. Three whipped creams were added to one apple pie. Luckily, I discovered it and got my money back.

The cola turned out to be postmix, with the glass half-filled with ice. Price: €3.60. The staff couldn't do anything about it, but I felt ripped off. Two sips and the glass was empty.

I don't think it's a good thing, the service takes a long time, you have to ask yourself if you can order and you get a grumpy response.

We had a quick lunch there. Service was great, food was less so and therefore relatively expensive.

Eaten 14-5-25. The service was friendly, but we had the chef's soup of the day: asparagus soup: it tasted sour! and there was not a single piece of asparagus in it €10,=! And the salad with fish €23,= was the fish: 3 shrimps and a piece of salmon/mackerel for a meal salad far too little fish! Our experience price quality ratio far to seek. We felt cheated.

It looks cozy from the outside. The service was excellent, the food and drinks were quite expensive. Sandwich in advance 2 main courses 1 dessert 2 soft drinks 1 cappuccino and 1 hot chocolate €91.50. You pay a lot extra for every extra. Toilet was also not very clean. We won't come here again

Day trip to Harderwijk and made a reservation here for lunch. We were able to choose a table in the sun and immediately received the tickets. After that no one came and after waiting for quite some time we asked the waitress if we could order something. Main courses were really tasty. So on to dessert. The menu said apple pie. Still, just to be sure, I asked if this was fresh. Server said this was fresh. When you arrived at the table you saw this was frozen cake. Unfortunately, missed opportunity. The creme brulee was also not tasty, seemed like it was from yesterday. Overall service not good and the bad dessert overshadowed the good main course.

Super lækker mad vil rimelig priser. Hyggelig indretning. Vi fik brisket sandwich og fritter med trøffelmayo og parmesan. Det var virkelig lækkert og maden kom hurtigt. God beliggenhed lige ved torvet. Betjening var sød og venlig. Så alt i alt et godt sted.

Very cozy terrace, top location

- Service was smooth - The “nacho con pollo” was/is actually just a plate full of nacho crumbs, and you really have to look for the chicken. Fortunately the bitterballen were fine. - I thought it was very unhygienic that the barmaids constantly 'scooped' the ice cubes with their bare hands and then put them in the glasses, unfortunately I found that out too late 😄. In the meantime, they touch everything that their other colleagues also touch.

In one word fantastic, such a friendly girl in the service who took care of everything down to the last detail in a cozy atmosphere. Compliments also for the chefs, a delicious dinner with soup as a starter and as a main course meat and fish with Spanish fries and grilled vegetables. My endometriosis diet was also taken into account. Very nice and everything was so tasty. Thanks again for the cozy evening and the good care.
