De Buurman in Staatsliedenbuurt

Highly recommended for a quick snack; there are a few places to sit and it didn't take long from ordering to the food being ready.

I used to take the bus, metro, and tram from Noord to get a kapsalon, wrap, or sandwich at De Buurman. But in 2025, as others have written, there's unfortunately little left of that. Of course, it's Amsterdam, and I understand that you don't get a front-row seat for a penny. But if you're charging more than ten euros for a wrap made with literally ground fava beans (which, by the way, tasted excellent), I expect at least more than three pieces in a wrap.

The old menu is back! Thanks for listening to your customer’s feedback.

Very nice and cozy snack bar. We had a great meal outside. The staff was very friendly and the food was really tasty! And for a very nice price! Above expectations good. The toilet was also clean.

Please bring back the old menu!!

What was really the very-very-very best snack bar in Amsterdam for years, has unfortunately been completely stripped down and is only a shadow of what it was for years. We would like the Buurman back as it was until a few months ago!!!

Very sad decline of what was a go-to neighbourhood spot. Hopefully someone can get them back on track

Unfortunately closed for no reason

Fries really burnt and hard to chew, hamburger was okay. Not the quality I am usually used to.

A year ago I would have rated it 5 stars, but well… not anymore. A lot of good meals disappeared from the menu and the overall quality declined.

Unfortunately the map has changed. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but the food, menu and service have deteriorated considerably. The delicious kimchi croquettes, sweet potato fries and chicken are no longer available. That's why we just had fries, stew and regular fries. I have no idea what we got, but it wasn't stew. We got a chunk of meat with a little bit of fries and a mountain of mayo. The fries and sauce were also much less tasty than before. Unless you like a sour blob of fat. The service hasn't gotten any better either. We didn't even get a 'hello' when we came in, just the 3 words 'it will be ready soon.' I don't know what happened to the kindness that was always there, but everything has deteriorated. All in all a major disappointment, which means that we will no longer visit and they have lost a regular customer from the area, which is a great pity.

Staff is not friendly towards customers. And mistakes were made in my order. I asked for mayonnaise with my fries and my wife didn't get any satay sauce either. It was also lukewarm to rather cold. The frikandel was still cold on the inside and removed from the fryer too quickly. Shame about the attempt to give it a chance. I live down the street and come there regularly.

Seven years ago I wrote “Best falafel in Town” unfortunately the menu is quite stripped down. They have less choice than a normal snack bar. There is also a haloumi and falafel wrap and a smash burger for the carnivores. And then on the side a frikandel or a cheese soufflé and fries. Away with bitterballen, kimchi croquettes and sweet potato fries. It still says “Egyptian falafel” on the facade, but it can no longer be ordered in individual portions. There is still falafel, but after 20 years of coming here it is no longer possible to get it loose. A shame, it was also a lot quieter than before. That's the only advantage

I ordered a simple portion of fries with mayo. They gave me my fries within 2 minutes. The fries were old and dry. I'm pretty sure they refried some old fries. I ate half the portion and I returned the other half to the counter. They didn't acknowledge me or say goodbye. I left feeling disappointed and I won't come back.

The menu has recently changed, and unfortunately not for the better. It is a pity that the hair salon, one of the dishes with which De Buurman really distinguished itself, has disappeared. The croquette has also been removed from the menu. I fear that the charm of De Buurman has been lost now that it has multiple branches. Shame!

Eat something Egytpian otherwise reguler burgers and fries are ok

Een paar jaar geleden hier prima gegeten. Nu niet. Wrap shoarma niet meer op de kaart. Jammer want die was heerlijk. Dan maar een smashburger met friet. Helaas slappe hap: zwart geblakerd en de kaas smakeloos. Friet was vet en hard. Frituurolie niet heet genoeg? Friet neer gekwakt op papier dus lauw na een paar happen. Geen zin meer in verder eten. Afrekenen dus maar. Hoe het was, vroeg de uitbater. Bar slecht was mijn antwoord. Nou dat ligt dan aan u want we krijgen alleen maar goede reviews. Erg onbeleefd! Ga ik nog een keer? Ja, in de hoop dat mijn ervaring een vieze uitzondering was op de regel.

The menu has recently changed and I think it's a cardinal sin. I always liked coming here because of the special things on the menu (kimchi, special croquettes, etc.) and the hair salon was always fantastic. A real disappointment that this has all been taken off the menu: it seemed to me to be the trademark of this place and certainly the reason that I came back. Now they sell (almost) the same as any other snack bar and I can't imagine that this won't hurt them. Very sorry about this!!!

This placed used to have great menu with one of the best kapsalon. Today we went to find out a new much smaller menu and the chicken sandwich was dry and not delicious at all.

I normally like to come here when I'm in the area. However, I was very disappointed that last time there were no fries in the wrap as intended. It was around 12:30 and I think he didn't want to go to the fryer for a few fries, but that's not my problem as a customer...

I thought I'd get some nice fries, mayonnaise, peanut sauce, and you'll come home with just fries without mayonnaise or peanut sauce. Yes, that can make me grumpy...too bad guys, the place wasn't super busy when I just placed my order.

Used to be a local standout, but time has led to high prices, poor service and over popularity, meaning quality and wait times mean for me it is a pass.

Everything on the menu is really good.

To be straight up honest. There are two young men working there on Saturdays. Show no respect and interest after the customer. They then also make mistakes in the way they work. I understand that it is difficult to find staff. But this does damage your tent's image. The quality of the wrap was really terrible. Extremely dry and the sauce was forgotten and it was cold. The fries were more like small shorts instead of what fries should be like. Even when leaving, there is no smile or greeting left, really very special. I also paid attention to the behavior of the employees towards other customers. Short, not interested, no smile, etc. That's fine with the arrogance and attitude, but customers don't want that. On average you pay 12 euros for a wrap, plus fries. I was always a fan of this place, but it just doesn't work anymore. The quality is gone and the whole Neighborhood experience is gone. I'm kind of done with the fact that rude behavior has to be normal.

Kapsalon was missing a number of ingredients: red cabbage, iceberg lettuce and sambal. In addition, the dish contained little to no melted cheese and the fries were very hard. Very disappointing, will not order from here again.

Quality seems to be deteriorating unfortunately. Ordered 2 chicken wraps yesterday and this time they were very disappointing. Wraps were way too dry and fell apart in misery, chicken was tasteless. As if they had forgotten the herbs. Shame. Staff is friendly as always. Snack bar itself has been feeling a bit shabby lately.

Un lugar sabroso tipo snackbar pero con comida más llena. Tengo una deliciosa envoltura de pollo fresca y mi marido una hamburguesa aplastante. Me encanta cómo se servía en una bandeja y el detalle de poner dos tazas de mayonesa para no tener que compartir una. No habría sido gran cosa compartir uno, pero aprecio ese detalle.

I loved eating at this place the people who served my food served it with excellence, there food was undescribable very flavoursome and it was cooked to perfection with love greatest food spot in Amsterdam.

Probably the spot we have ordered from the most in Amsterdam. Vey big fans! But recently it seems unreliable: the past 4 times the chips have been soggy. The chips used to be the best part. I wonder if the cooking process changed? I heard they used to be double/triple fried or something. Would also be nice if there was a phone number or something so you can reach them.

Falafel wrap was very nice - good ratio of veggies and falafel (for people who like balanced meals:P). They handle big cues very well! They were friendly and not stressing. Will be back to try some of the other homemade snacks!

We used to love this place, the flavours were amazing.. we loved the kapsalon.. but the last 3 times we ordered it is not anymore the same.. they changed everything, the taste is not the same, ingredients are not the same and the fries taste to the oil where meat is fried..

The food is to die for! Fresh and very tasty. It's a snack bar and therefore very narrow.

We used to love this place, but it's unreliable now. Halloumi/falafel pita used to come with diverse salads: tomato, cucumber, relish, pomegranate even; but the last 3 times we ordered and just got a little lettuce/cabbage inside. :( Maybe if you've run out of ingredients or need to adjust your menu, let your customers know. Chips still taste great though.

Visited on Kings day so they had a reduced menu. Comparing the prices they had against they're normal prices was a 30% increase. The prices were still cheap but pretty questionable. For the food we ate fries, Karims chicken sandwich and the falafel wrap. All tasted great. Would like to visit again and check out the rest of the menu.

I ordered a vegan shawarma to take out, but when I started eating it I noticed that it wasn’t what I had ordered, it was a meat wrap!! I complained about this by email and social media but haven’t received a response. At the very least I would expect a refund and an apology. It is a shame because I used to go there often, but after this awful experience never again.

Warm place, far from tourist areas. The choices are diverse and varied, especially for vegans and vegetarians. The food is excellent, generous and very good value for money! All foods are fresh and healthy. Excellent !

Good food, but poor service, not reachable by phone, expensive and long waiting times. It is also not possible to pay afterwards when receiving your order. Something that has often happened is that I paid an amount that included a bag without asking in advance whether I wanted this, and only discovered this afterwards.

Delicious modern quality snacks and wraps. A top address with consistent quality for years. Not in my area, but I'm happy to drive there.

That chicken wrap is dry, tastes like nothing and has no sauce on it. Service was unpleasant and blunt.

I came in, and the first thing I noticed is that the atmosphere is pauper nice! The service was great, the food was very tasty, it was just a great experience everywhere! I definitely recommend people to come here and try the Halloumi.

De Buurman blijft een toptent met oog voor de klant. Ik kwam voor een double trouble en wilde er friet bij. Er was geen friet dus dan zonder.. Een (vastere) klant na mij wilde ook friet en toen was het er wel.. ;-) Prompt kreeg ik ook een bakje (met mayo) aangeboden.. deze gasten snappen het, top eten met een top service!

Normaal, echt waar, een heerlijke plek! Vandaag 11-10 krijgen helaas een heel portie oudbakken patat voorgeschoteld. Dat ben ik niet gewend van de Buurman. Heel jammer, wij slaan voorlopig even over, oudbakken friet is niet mijn favoriet!

They add spicy sauce to your wrap even if you don’t ask for it. And even if you ask them not to do that! I don’t know if it was on purpose or not, but I’m just so tired of this, it happened to me 4 or 5 times already.

Voor 8 euro krijg je een enorme wrap met falafel. Voor 2.60 euro extra de lekkerste friet van Amsterdam, die ze nog zelf snijden. Heerlijk lang en knapperig.

I probably had very high expectations due to the overall ratings of the place, so I was expecting a extraordinary falafel, but it was good. The fries are awesome Really liked that they had free sweet orange flavoured water during the harsh summer. Would definitely recommend this place. Will return to try more vegan options here.

The flavors were excellent. My favorite was the lamb kofta. The wait was a little long but they get busy so it makes sense. Their fries are also amazing. It was the first time eating at a restaurant in Amsterdam where I personally didn’t need to add salt and pepper to a dish to make it taste a little better 😉

Ik vind het relatief erg duur worden. Het verschilt heel erg wie er achter de toonbank staat en het eten maakt. Paar keer gehad dat het de ene keer lekkerder is als de andere keer. Ook met de hoeveelheid wat er wordt geserveerd. Ik denk als de prijzen omhoog gaan, wellicht dat het publiek wat er komt het niet uitmaakt. Alleen je hebt het erop een gegeven moment niet meer voor over. Hamburger + patat ga je straks richting de 15 euro. Patatje en saus, wrap of iets erbij en je bent rond de 12 euro kwijt. Wel een beetje decadent snacken uiteraard in een "volksbuurt"

Heerlijk terras in de zon, super lekkere patat en borrelhapjes en prima drankjes. Aardige service ook. Volgende keer gaan we er "echt" lunchen.

Great vegan falafel, says my wife

Een hapje eten bij de Buurman is een uitstekend idee. De tent is recent mooi verbouwd en is toch echt meer een eethuis dan een snackbar. Naast zelfgesneden friet bestel je hier de lekkerste falafel, gemaakt van bonen maar ook veel andere heerlijkheden zoals haloumi, köfte of kimchikroketten. Echt de moeite van het omrijden waard.
