Nice atmosphere and friendly, fast service. But a sandwich with some lettuce and very meager salmon for €14.50 is not good! And the coffee was truly terrible, which is a shame.

Had lunch here with a friend, and it took a while for our order to be taken. The service was young and curt. We ordered a brie sandwich and a carpaccio sandwich. The brie sandwich had two wafer-thin slices per slice. We asked for white bread but received brown bread. A clump of unprepared lettuce lay next to it with no garnish. The carpaccio sandwich had minimal truffle mayonnaise and was also very thinly topped. We had to wait about 40 minutes for our sandwiches, so we were just happy to have something to eat. The service staff didn't say anything. They didn't ask if we enjoyed it or if everything was to our liking.

The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food is always good. Even now, in winter, you can sit outside in the warmth—what more could you need?

There was a Christmas market. And the shop was chaotic. No orders were being taken, etc. Panic among the few staff. This, despite it not being busy. On a beautiful summer day, it's three times busier there than it is now. We'll just assume this was an isolated incident.

The service and atmosphere were good, but the food wasn't. We had chicken satay, which tasted good, but the plates were cold and the food lukewarm. The spare ribs were tough, the fries were super thin, and a small portion for four people wasn't enough. Asking for extra fries cost an extra 4 euros. The dessert was delicious, Dameblanch. I wouldn't eat here again anytime soon.

Very good value for money. The restaurant was (unexpectedly) packed on Saturday evening. This was due to our 50% discount on The Fork. Be aware, however, that this will be passed on to you. The menu isn't too extensive, and as a result, all dishes are very tasty. Points for improvement: One small bowl of fries for 4 people is too little. The service seemed inexperienced in some respects (not a problem in itself), and it was difficult to get their attention. 5 stars due to the large discount. Otherwise, 4.

Well, maybe it was the time, but they got off to a slow start. It felt a bit sloppy. The location is great; it's beautiful, spacious, and interesting. One more question: I saw a grilled cheese sandwich, are they homemade?

We were offered a social deal, which was one euro more expensive than a regular 3-course meal. It's a shame, because a social deal is a marketing tool, designed to introduce your restaurant to as many people as possible. We were allowed to order 3 courses from the menu outside of the deal because they didn't yet know what the deal entailed, which was a nice touch. The appetizer: a very small portion of scallops. They were rubbery, frozen, poorly grilled, and covered in sauce. The chef loves to douse everything in sauce. The carpaccio was bland and served with slush and lettuce. The main course: beef tenderloin steak. The flavor was okay, but again, it was covered in sauce. The other main course was tuna steak, which tasted watery, wasn't grilled well, and wasn't fresh. I know it's a bistro and you shouldn't expect too much, but if you can't deliver quality, don't put this kind of dish on the menu. There are plenty of bistros where I've had a good meal. Anyway, even the dessert was bland; I couldn't distinguish the flavors of the different scoops. Never had such bad service in a restaurant. We waited an hour and a half for our food!!! It was delicious, though. Order four drinks and get two! I'll never go back.

We regularly visit De Colonel. In the summer, they have a lovely terrace. This time we had lunch inside. We chose the extensive "uitmijter" (fried sandwich) a la Colonel and a very generously filled ham sandwich. Everything was excellent. The service was excellent and friendly. Highly recommended.

Had to wait 25 minutes for a drink, then 15 minutes for bread, which arrived at the same time as the main course. In total, we waited over an hour for food, supposedly because everyone arrived at the same time. One girl worked incredibly hard, the rest did very little. The food was okay, not very interesting; the fries and kids' food were lukewarm.

Great service, lovely terrace in the sun, excellent onion soup. But... charging €9 for it is ridiculous, and the onion soup is definitely not worth it.

I ate here yesterday. And this is exactly what I'm looking for when I want to have a nice drink and eat something. No fuss, no creams or gels, just good food. We had half a chicken and spare ribs. The chicken was well-seasoned and very tender, and the Burgundian vegetables were also delicious. The spare ribs were cooked perfectly, but not overcooked. I would definitely go here for a company get-together or Grandma's birthday, for example. There's something for everyone on the menu.

Great food, excellent price-quality ratio

Impossible to order. I've been coming here regularly for years, and apparently, I'm not nice enough to be helped. The waitstaff looks around, and I have to walk to the bar regularly. Why do I still go there? They have my favorite beer and the F1 on big screens.

So you're happily chilling out, and then you're sent away to a terrace where there are still plenty of people and plenty of seats, just as you're about to start another round of drinks. But the "we didn't order enough" double bittergarnituur (a type of Dutch snack) and enough rounds of drinks didn't help. The waiter wasn't even allowed to apologize for sending us away by the boss. Absurd. A sleazy place.

To our dismay, what we ordered wasn't what we expected. After explaining our reasons, they showed understanding, and we received a different dish that was completely satisfactory. What fantastic service!

Halfway along the only major shopping street in the municipality of Zeist lies café-restaurant de Colonel. Cozy outdoor terrace and a small, inviting indoor terrace. Reasonable prices and good beers. Escape the hustle and bustle of shoppers and speeding cars on the heated outdoor terrace. A wonderful local anesthetic.

The food tasted good, and the server was polite and attentive. However, drinks were initially forgotten, and when they arrived, no ice. The salad was supposed to come with bread (they also requested white or brown). When the bread was served, it was forgotten. The server remarked that it had been forgotten, but then did nothing about it.

The starter was served with fries, drinks weren't brought or were served incorrectly, and the food wasn't delivered at the same time as the group. Dessert wasn't delivered at the same time either. If you wanted to reorder, it took ages or you only received part of it. I treated my guests to something for my birthday, but this irritated me. Whenever I mentioned it, they got angry that I was criticizing them. Inside, it was a complete mess. We had to wait a long time to pay.

Beautiful terrace. Lovely to sit quietly and have a drink. The service is incredibly slow, at least in the afternoon when we were there. This had a negative effect on our mood! Next time better to go to the neighbors.

By chance I ended up at this restaurant. Very cozy place with a terrace and a covered heated terrace. I took the menu (starter, main course and dessert or coffee/tea).. I chose the Carpaccio as a starter. This is by far the tastiest version I have ever eaten 🌹👍🌹, definitely recommended! The hamburger was unfortunately a bit disappointing in terms of preparation (much too dry), the taste was just right 👍 ​​and surprisingly the fries were perfectly cooked. We often come to the colonel for a drink and a bite to eat. The food is delicious, simple but fantastic. They certainly have delicious cocktails too. The service can sometimes be a little faster, but when Dirk serves you, the service is absolutely great! Super friendly, hospitable man who will do everything for you! Definitely recommended!

The ambiance of the place, especially outside, is as a cafe should be. Wood, fires, smooth presentation, fast staff in polo shirts. Only with the food and the timing they missed the mark. While we were still busy with the starter, two of the waiters asked independently of each other whether the main course could pass or be brought..... Reluctantly agreed, although we did look at each other. Like: what is this? The result for me was a plate with tenderloin tips that were half a bit tough, as if they had been kept warm. Moreover, the chef appeared to have a great fondness for pepper, that aside. Incidentally, it was reported, would be passed on. My wife's burger also gave her the impression that she had waited a bit longer for it to be served than necessary. Was it a matter of timing or was the chef fed up after a long beautiful day? We had booked online at an available time, so that shouldn't have been the problem.... The hotel we stayed at, Oud Londen, was very good. Still, we would like to experience Colonel again as it should be! This was a pity....

Chef's special menu was a hamburger with a stale bun. We went to eat our dessert at a different place due to the noise caused by a student club. A lemonade that was really sickly sweet. The service was friendly but made many mistakes.

Delicious main courses, very friendly staff, sorbet ice cream with fresh fruit for dessert. The ice cream had a chemical not natural taste, and the fresh fruit was apple cubes. In one we also discovered small pieces of something else. We sent this back to the kitchen and it was deducted from our bill. Would have preferred a nice ice cream, but it was resolved well.

We gingen een drankje drinken, omstreeks 21:00 uur. We mochten niet aan de bar zitten van de (snotneus) barman omdat er geen plek was/te druk had…? Er zaten slechts 3 stellen aan de bar. We mochten alleen wat drinken als we aan een tafel plaats namen, terwijl er gewoon plek was aan de bar. Heel bijzonder en totaal niet gastvrij.

Delicious tenderloin tips......

Nice people in service and great atmosphere. We had to sit at the front of the restaurant. It's a little more appearance than reality. The menu doesn't offer much, but just enough to eat there once. Only in the front area is it roaring loud. A normal conversation at the table was impossible. You had to scream at each other quite a bit. A treat for the ears when you were finally allowed to go out there again. And it's not really cheap here.

... although it wasn't véry busy it was a loooooong wait (after ordering our meal) but when we finally did get served the food was good. Perhaps a next time the just over an hour waiting-gap can be filled with some (free) bread & butter?? Overall atmosphere was quiet and pleasant.

Voor een avond vol heerlijke gerechten en een ontspannen ambiance is De Colonel de ideale keuze. Ik kom hier zeker terug voor die verrukkelijke ribs!

Met een groep van 8 vrienden hier op het terras neergestreken om te borrelen. Na een aantal drankjes kregen wij toch wel trek en hebben wat porties Iberico spareribs besteld om te delen. Heerlijk mals vlees, geweldige marinade en echt fall of the bone! Waar het eten bij De Colonel in het verleden vaker teleurstelde dan blij maakte, is het duidelijk dat met de nieuwe keukenbrigade een nieuw tijdperk is aangebroken! Blij dat wij hier alvast een voorproefje van hebben genomen en we komen zeker terug om de rest van de kaart te proeven!

Leuke avond gehad en op advies de Iberico ribs besteld. Waanzinnig lekker Vriendelijk personeel en een mooi overdekt verwarmd terras.

This terrace in the center of Zeist has been a "Must Bee" for many years. Because we now live in Germany, we had not been there for 20 years. But still ge Ellis and delicious food.

Had dinner there last week. Staff doesn't pay attention, it takes a while before you can order something. Food (tenderloin salad & avocado burger) really worst in years. Recommend vegetarians to look elsewhere, almost no options and veggie burger drama.

Tonight I had dinner at the Colonel with my 2 daughters. Nice spot on the terrace. After ordering, we waited 45 minutes for the starter. (after asking) The starter was still there when the main course arrived. With the main course, the stew vegetables were much too hard. Dessert was served well in succession. The bill turned out to be incorrect. All in all, a shame. Not a second time for us!

deze plek is geweldig , lekker eten en drinken en de restaurant is heel mooi geworden , na de verboouwing, ik zou zeker nog een keer teruggaan

Ik had een broodje gemarineerde Thais kip met pittige chili mayonaise besteld en mijn partner een club sandwich met kip. De clubsandwich kwam geleverd Met kaas , mij partner eet geen kaas en staat ook niet op de kaart. Er zatten grote stukken tomaat op en kip was nauwelijks aanwezig. We hebben deze terug gegeven en het duurde best lang voor ze met een nieuwe kwamen zonder kaas wederom grote stukken tomaat en nu 2 kleine stukjes kip. Er zat friet bij maar geen mayonaise. Die zouden ze direct komen brengen. Daar hebben we helaas nog 3x om moeten vragen. Het broodje kip was een enorme hoeveelheid sla en kip in een zwembad aan chilisaus. De chili mayonaise was nergens te bekennen net als de op de kaart genoemde koriander. Tot mijn grote verbazing hadden ze er ook maar een handje croutons door gemikt. Conclusie je krijgt niet wat er op de kaart staat dus let op met allergieën! En qua eet ervaring geen aanrader. Beroerde kwaliteit voor wat men er voor vraagt.

Dinsdagavond, het terras goed bezet. Aan tafel vlotte bediening. Drankje werd direct opgenomen en snel gebracht. Gekozen voor het driegangen menu, met een goede fles witte wijn. Al met al goed gegeten, goede bediening en een goede prijs - prestatie verhouding.

De bediening is (nog steeds) aan de matige kant. Je wordt bediend, maar daar is dan ook alles mee gezegd. De prijs-kwaliteit verhouding is schokkend: voor een gemberthee, een Spa rood, twee koffie en twee maal kroketten op brood moest ik 36€ afrekenen. Degene met wie ik was wilde maar één ipv twee kroketten, die op de kaart stonden. Ik nam er twee, toch werden er 4 kroketten à 11€! in rekening gebracht. Overigens stelden kroketten weinig voor, hetzelfde geldt voor het brood. Ik wil best wat meer betalen, maar dit staat niet in verhouding. Kortom een slechte ervaring.

We hebben zojuist gegeten en kozen voor een drie gangendiner.na voorgerecht vergat men het hoofdgerecht. En vervolgens bleef ook het nagerecht uit. Slechte service en gebrek aan coördinatie. Ga hier nooit meer naartoe.

The food quality and atmosphere no comment see the stars. The service was bad. We had 5 servers 2 good 3 below average. Drink orders were fast delivering them was a challenge. The kitchen had timing issues and although the food quality was good again the time between ordering and delivering was way too long. My overall is a 3 star but if you don't mind a long wait it's a 4 star.

Can't rate the food as after waiting a while we decided to eat somewhere else. Too busy for the staff present to serve people properly and at the same time keep the place neat and tidy. The dishes and glasses were piled everywhere.
