Had a delicious meal, prompt and enthusiastic service. They came by quickly enough without making it feel too rushed. Food and drinks were very reasonably priced. Large portions and everything tasted great. Also had a mocktail and that was fine too.

It soo strange to not get a tap water and force to a bottle of water to charge a money. What shame to profit from a free water.

Very bad. We sat down. And three times we were asked if we wanted to move. The last time, they asked if we could sit up straight in an impolite manner. We left by then. Never experienced anything like this before.

We were greeted with a "German greeting" by other guests. Nobody cared; the staff sent us away because our complaint was perceived as disruptive.

I do understand, if some people might not like it, but it's really and honestly just taste. As I like this european atmosphere, especially outside under the tents with groups of people, and also with red tents, it's what reminds me of my childhood. The interior is also simple, but modern, clean and very beautifully designed. The service especially was nice. And average "outgoing-price". They also have some good variety of 0,0 alcohol free beers. And the tea, try it. They dont bring you bag-tea (which is not bad, as they are mostly exactly the same quality. I know, because I'm in the tea topic). Still, they give you loose berries in a pretty noble glass, and it tastes more special than normal. The negative side: please remove the smoking from the outside tables. The another guests, especially children, definitely don't need to smell this and posion themselves. Thank you so much, and also for this amazing day.

They are disrespectful here. Inside, there is hardly any air and it is dark. My advice is to go somewhere else.

We've been coming to De Kater for years. Friendly staff. Good food. Tasty cocktails. Only last time, something really disappointed me. Normally, the heaters are on and the chairs are covered in warm red blankets. The blankets were gone. When I asked about them, I was told they had already been cleared away upstairs. The waitress said there was now an option to heat the chairs. I suggested she'd prefer a blanket. This wasn't possible, but there was a paid option to have my chair heated. It only costs a few euros, but I think this is just a matter of principle. I'm coming for a large meal and drinks (120 euros ticket), and then I'm sure I'll have to pay for heating my chair? It's ridiculous... Where a blanket would have been perfectly fine.

Pretty good location in the heart of Enschede, so it can get quite busy and/or rowdy, but that is to be expected. Service was kind and fast, helped us quickly and food did not take long to be done. Food itself was allright, it was nothing special but it was not gross either. I had a burger and there were some onion skins on it as well as the bread was too hard for my liking and a but difficult to eat. Overall pretty allright expierence, don't think I would go here again personally! But was worth trying for once :)

A great cafe in a beautiful location!!

A very nice, cozy restaurant in the city center. The waiters make a real effort to speak German. Otherwise, you can get by just fine with English. We had a mixed finger food platter, which arrived quickly. In the summer, you can also sit outside and enjoy the lovely view of the lively church square. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

This is the terrace I go to almost every week, often in the evenings. Now that the weather is cold, the heaters outside are very nice. The staff is friendly and serves your order quickly.

Some of the staff seemed annoyed, rolling their eyes as they answered every question. The burgers were carelessly prepared with pre-made patties, and then to charge €7.90 for a 0.5l beer is outrageous. No wonder the regular drinks aren't listed on the menu.

What a mouthful! This afternoon I had lunch at De Kater and enjoyed a Shanghai Chicken sandwich. The chicken was just right, and the slightly sweet and spicy sauce perfectly enhanced the meat's flavor. The staff are friendly, professional, and hospitable. A top-notch place!

De Kater is absolutely recommendable! The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive, the food is truly delicious, and the drinks selection is impressive. You can tell that quality and hospitality are valued here. A visit is definitely worthwhile – I'll gladly come back.

Enjoy delicious food and coffee in a cozy interior

We thought we'd have a nice meal (for two people). We got a starter (a baguette) quickly, but the main course took over an hour. After asking, we received one main course (and how) which was almost thrown on the table. We also didn't have any cutlery, which the waitress saw and said, "Oh yeah, I'll bring your cutlery later." Within minutes, it was thrown in front of me, and she then (while leaving) wished me "enjoy your meal." My girlfriend and I looked at each other: what do you mean, enjoy your meal? I'm still missing a main course... We waited patiently (for 10 minutes, otherwise my dish will get cold—I'm not eating alone, of course) and finally asked where my girlfriend's dish was. The waitress thought it was strange and immediately went to check on it. Conclusion: something had gone wrong in the kitchen, so they're going to fix it. It was a dish that wasn't ready that quickly (shrimp), so we politely declined and asked for the bill (my dish can go back to the kitchen, because I don't need it anymore). Meanwhile, we both consumed two drinks, of which we each got one free... all in all, a very unpleasant experience at De Kater; I won't be back anytime soon. Too bad!

During our vacation, we landed in Enschede and strolled through the streets. The menu appealed to us the most, so we stayed for dinner. We enjoyed the meat, the pasta, and our drinks. The service was attentive and courteous at all times. It was, of course, very busy on a Friday evening. A real recommendation, and we'd love to come back!

The experience was great! The waitress was very attentive and friendly; she immediately gave us an English menu because she heard we didn't speak Dutch :) The food was plentiful and delicious! A plus point: German music was playing :p The ambiance was chic and unusual, something you don't see very often :) It was great!

It takes a long time to get served. There are four people behind the bar waiting. And cleaning could use some improvement; the dust from the lamps is almost falling down. It's been deteriorating lately.

A huge beer garden on Enschede's market square with great food and a wide selection of beers. The waiters here really make a difference.

I've always been a big fan of the hangover, and I loved coming here when I was a student. Yesterday, we had lunch, which was disappointing; it wasn't what we were used to from the hangover. The club sandwich couldn't be picked up because they were already prepared... In the end, it turned out to be more of a grilled cheese sandwich than a club sandwich. The outer layer of bread was brown/toasted, but the inner layer wasn't, and it was soggy. A shame, because it was always very good! My son had a piece of plastic in his sandwich. This was resolved promptly, and we received a new one. When I asked if I wanted a discount, the sandwich was politely removed from the bill.

De Kater is a well-known name in Enschede, and rightly so. Here you can always enjoy a drink or a meal on the terrace or inside.

Wat is hier de service en de kwaliteit van eten en drinken afgenomen zeg. Het is dat ik 1 ster minimaal moest geven want als het aan mij ligt zijn ze die ene ster nog niet eens waard. Zeggen dingen toe ter compensatie die ze vervolgens niet waar kunnen maken, waarnaar je vervolgens een grote bek krijgt van de shift leader. Kortom wat het ooit was is het nu duidelijk niet meer.

Bad service!!! It's such a shame we have to give one star, otherwise it would have been zero. You're treated like a dog. And the food is inedible; I wouldn't even give it to my pet, it's awful. And not to mention the shift leader, what a horrible person she is, antisocial and impossible to talk to, only wanting to be right. Never again, yuck!

The service and the quality of the food and drinks have truly declined. It's a shame I had to give them at least one star, because if it were up to me, they wouldn't even deserve that one. They promise compensation that they can't deliver, only to get a rude mouth from the shift leader. In short, what it once was is clearly not what it used to be. This experience happened yesterday. Cozy terrace on the old market in Enschede

Dry terrace, had to ask for new drinks several times… Then a waiter came to the table to tell him that he was not paid enough to work hard and kept asking for new drinks. Paid, got up and walked to the neighbor who was polite and came to you to take your drink order.

Music is already so loud at seven o'clock that you have to scream. The food only arrives a good hour after ordering and is also nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, the service also could not manage a smile.

Wat een teleurstelling. Ken De Kater al jaren maar 26-06 iets belachelijks meegemaakt. Onbeschofte serveerster, bleek de bedrijfsleidster te zijn. Kennelijk zat ik op het niet al te drukke terras haar in de weg. Te lang en lastig hier kort te verwoorden. Maar ze liep tamelijk lomp gewoon tussen ons door. Tussen tafeltje en stoel. Duwde gewoon onze benen aan de kant. En even later deed ze teruglopend precies hetzelfde nog een keer. Kennelijk was dit de manier om ons, domme gasten, duidelijk te maken dat wij eigenlijk alleen maar lastig zijn. We kwamen alle vijf net vh werk af en iedereen was stomverbaasd wat zij deed. Na netjes aangesproken te zijn op haar handelen, lag het allemaal aan mij. Ik had maar moeten weten dat ik in het pad zat. Pad? Welke pad? En waarom zeg je dat niet gewoon even dan was ik aan de kant gegaan. Er viel niet mee te praten. Ongeloofelijk arrogant en zo niet netjes en gastvrij. Hoe kun je je gasten zo behandelen.

What a disappointment. I've known De Kater for years but on 26-06 I experienced something ridiculous. Rude waitress, turned out to be the manager. Apparently I was in her way on the not too busy terrace. Too long and difficult to describe briefly here. But she walked rather clumsily between us by pushing our legs aside. And a little later she did exactly the same thing again on her way back. Apparently this was the way to make it clear to us, stupid guests, that we are actually just a nuisance. All five of us had just come from work and everyone was astonished by what she did. After being politely addressed about her actions, it was all my fault. I should have known that I was in the path. Path? Which path? And why don't you just say that then I would have moved aside. It was impossible to talk to her. Incredibly arrogant and so not polite and hospitable. How can you treat your guests like that.

Soups are great and tasty. Hamburgers are a big minus, one huge dry bun, no sauces in sight.

Nice place but the toilets are downright disgusting When you say something about it you are told that a cleaning lady is too expensive but that the toilets are cleaned every morning. And that when thousands of people go to the toilets there at an event. Never again for us.

We were able to sit outside on Thursday evening with a group, it was quite busy, but we asked if we could move inside later. This was no problem at all. The service was great! I did not try the food (read dinner) but what came out of the kitchen looked good, nice portions. The bittergarnituur that we had ourselves was just good.

What if you are treated like a dog by the staff? You say the fish and chips are dry and according to them it is completely normal. People, forewarned counts for 10. The (Drink) Hangover. The square is always pleasant, including the 🐈‍⬛ located on the old market. So location is great. Sunshine...bring on lunch. After waiting 25 minutes...our lunch came. My brie baguette...plenty. Compared to other locations on the same square...just sufficient. Little flair or extra attention. Our other Italian bun sandwich with pulled pork🐷a mockery. The bulb was old and falling apart...you had to look for meat. Wasn't enough at all for such a large sandwich. 😳 and that for € 12,-. When the waitress came to pay she asked if everything was okay, when we told her why we hadn't finished the sandwich, she laughed faintly and said; "I'll pass it on." That's it. They definitely thought they were tourists...no locals. There are certainly much better lunch options on the square. No more 🐈‍⬛ for us.

We had a good time. The location is superb right in the heart of the oudemarkt in Enschede. The garlic and cheese bread is delicious and a must try. Great for drinks with friends or a family outing.
