De Lachende Koe Leeuwarden in Binnenstad

We ate there yesterday, too, like so many others, thanks to a social deal. I'd been to De Koe years ago, and everything was good then, but now... Let me start by saying the service was good, but that's about it for me. My partner had the steak, and it was still edible. I had the pork tenderloin, which tasted sour and was pale, as if it had been microwaved instead of fried. I didn't want to be rude and thought the tenderloin had been fried in something else or had lemon or vinegar added to it, but when my partner asked if it was good and I let her taste it, she immediately spit it out. I wish I had let her taste it sooner, because I've been vomiting and having diarrhea all night. Thanks, chef, because of you, I now have food poisoning! I was also surprised that people with two dogs came into the restaurant and just started eating. Dogs in a restaurant? Personally, I don't think that's very hygienic. For me, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I should add, in all fairness, that the waitress offered me a new meal, but I did not accept it.

We've been here twice now. But we definitely won't be back. You should probably change your name to The Crying Cow. It's just plain awful.

During my recent visit to De Lachende Koe in Leeuwarden, I noticed that the menu had been adjusted for the holidays. The menu is less extensive than before, which is understandable during a busy period. At the same time, prices have increased. While a price increase during this time is understandable, in this case, it feels like a double increase, as the menu has been pared down at the same time. I hope the restaurant takes this combination of factors into account for future holiday menus, so that the price-quality ratio remains better balanced. ---

What a terrible experience! The food was cold, and the room was cold; we had to keep our coats on. Dishes were heated in the oven/microwave, and no one even cooked them. My son went into the kitchen and there were cigarette butts all over the floor. And then they asked for good reviews, and this is absolutely BAD! And that on Christmas Day!

Let me start by saying that the woman who helped us to our table was very friendly! She was great with our children and regularly asked if we wanted something to drink. We also made reservations well in advance for Christmas, and when they gave us our menu, we were quite shocked. Even the people behind us were shocked. A special Christmas menu with limited options. We were never told this when we made the reservation. Furthermore, not all the food was hot, and the chicken was quite cold. And let's not even mention the portion sizes—quite small! My steak, however, was delicious! We didn't experience this six months ago for my wife's birthday, and not last year for Christmas either (back then there was even a regular menu)! We won't be returning anytime soon.

The service was good, but the food was terrible! I don't understand how a chef would dare serve this. Lukewarm, tough, tasteless meat and fries that were still almost raw. We waited almost an hour and a half for the main course! So we skipped dessert. In short, not recommended.

We booked here through SD without high expectations. A nice menu, pleasant, friendly service, the dinner was delicious. What was striking was that they didn't serve a pathetic glass of wine, but a nice glass with a good flavor. We will definitely be back.

Mediocre food, but the price is logical.

The food was fine until the restaurant supervisor came and asked us to leave the restaurant of no reason he had no reason for us to leave but just said leave the restaurant, very unpleasant and we dont feel welcome anymore always when the real owner was there we felt really welcome and everything but the attitude he gave us was a direct move for us to leave, not friendly and not professional we request a better experience next time.

Through Social Deal, I only read the reviews later and was warned by a local. If you want to drink a lot: go! If you expect anything from your food, go next door... unfortunately. A place with potential, but run by the wrong people. At least in the kitchen. As a vegetarian, you really have no business there. They ran out of puff pastry, so the chef could have put it in a wrap. The result: a raw, cold wrap with Iglo spinach and something white in between that was supposed to be goat cheese. It tasted absolutely awful. Guys, imagination and a few herbs are not expensive. There's really no attention to the food, and zero love for it. You can do a lot with a little... here they completely turn things around.

A super cozy place with delicious food and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit again.

Everything was going well until the gentleman thought he was the main character. We had to leave immediately, even though the rest of the staff had no problem with us. No complaints from this man. €700 for a starter and main course for 15 people is truly bizarre, considering the slow service that went with it, not including the dessert we did order. Thanks!!

What a terrible experience. We had to wait over two hours for the starter, which was only two bites. Then it took until 10:30 for the main course to arrive, even though we were there at 7:00. The main course was cold, the prawn crackers were soggy, and when we politely asked for extra fries, the staff reacted rudely. A real shame — this doesn't belong in a restaurant that claims to offer quality and service. We won't be back.

Cold food, it all takes a very long time

My husband and I haven't had such a good meal in a long time! The music is also great and the staff is super enthusiastic. If we ever return to Leeuwarden, we'll definitely eat here again.

We were drawn to the menu, so we decided to give this restaurant a try. Upon entering, we immediately noticed the friendly, professional, and welcoming staff. We were seated immediately and quickly received a menu and drinks. The menu is also well-balanced; not a laundry list of options, but more than enough to choose from. The music was quite loud, which made conversation a bit difficult, but it was eventually turned down. Not all the food seemed to be of the same quality; I really enjoyed some dishes, but others left little impression. It wasn't bad, anyway. The atmosphere is fine, but nothing special. The interior isn't visually striking, but it did give a clean and tidy impression. The standard tables and wooden chairs are comfortable and perfectly adequate. The attentive service was truly outstanding; empty glasses were quickly noticed by the staff, and we were almost immediately asked if we wanted another drink. Refilling our fries and potato wedges was also done without any extra effort or cost. The price-quality ratio is excellent, so you will never be dissatisfied when you dine out here.

The four of us had a great experience eating here through Social Deal. The crispy chicken starter was delicious. For the main course, we had farmer's shnitzel; it's been a long time since I've had such a good one.

We went here with a large group. The restaurant is well-equipped for that. Food comes at the same time and there's something for everyone. Drinks are included, which is great for the budget. Furthermore, don't go here for the food. The burrata tastes awful and is served on a pathetic leaf of arugula and two cherry tomatoes. The meat with the main courses seemed decent, especially the chicken, but the portobello mushrooms were literally two measly mushrooms with a bit of cheese on them. It's not something you can live on. Furthermore, there's an abundance of fries on the table, so there's no need to go home hungry. Gluten-free options are poorly catered to; the fries had been on the table for a long time until they were told they weren't gluten-free. All in all, a foodie hangout for large groups, where you go for practical reasons, not for the food.

You're in an old pub, but the food is highly recommended, so delicious, and for that price, you won't find anything better. The interior isn't great, but you come here for the delicious food, and the menu is a nice touch.

I've been here four times now, and the food is always good. The staff are very friendly. We even got a star on our dessert because my partner and I had been together for 4.5 years, which was really sweet. Definitely recommended. P.S. It can get a bit noisy because of the long tables.

A very nice cafe with a good concept. And a very good price. Drinks are included with a 2- or 3-course meal. Children will have a great time. The menu comes down from the ceiling to your table and there's plenty of choice. It's not top-notch, but fine for the price. The spare ribs were very good. The appetizers were okay. Unfortunately, we couldn't try dessert. We were a bit early and waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our main course after arriving. There was an appetizer in between, but even that was really too long, especially since we had already requested it. The staff is very attentive and friendly and regularly come by to ask if everything is to your liking. The music was a bit too loud, which made it a bit noisy. For a cafe with a good price-quality ratio, highly recommended, as long as you're not too early.

I got really sick after eating here... The salmon was also slimy, so I can only conclude I had food poisoning. I called, and aside from reporting the situation and offering sympathy, they offered no compensation, such as a refund or something. Service was also poor with a large group—wrong orders, having to ask for drinks myself, etc., and others also questioning the texture of the meat. Not to mention the damaged plates and general hygiene; I literally had to ask for a clean knife. I do not recommend this restaurant.

I know: it's not expensive. But still...it does cross a lower limit. I ate: - Starter: goat cheese with walnuts. It was nothing more than that - a cheese in a bowl with some nuts. No bread, no decoration. Reasonable taste - My girlfriend had carpaccio. Dry, tough, no color, no taste. - Main: pork tenderloin with brie. Reasonable. My girlfriend had vegetable strudel. That was really not tasty. About student house level. I understand that you can't expect top wine with such a formula, but the dry white we got was really bad. We were pointed to the terrace outside and that was good. Nice spot in the middle of the city. But inside it is indeed a bit sticky, loud music, not very cozy. Yes, it was Monday evening, but our final verdict: rather pay a bit more and then eat well. Or just cook at home, because this had hardly any added value.

We ended up here via Social Deal and were a group of 7 people. Bought the deal and only then did we read several bad reviews on Google. So we were quite scared to eat there. When we entered we were given a table directly under the speaker with quite loud music. When we asked if the music could be turned down a bit, they did so immediately, although some of our group still thought the music was too loud. The hygiene was very good. People should not forget that it is a brown cafe and a very old building with nooks, crannies, stairs and holes everywhere. Try keeping it spotless. I thought the toilet could be more hygienic, it was really not clean by my standards. The service was helpful and our waiter was cheerful and genuinely friendly, a real hospitality person. That is always very nice!! They also looked carefully to see if anyone wanted to order a drink, so that was also very neatly arranged! The food was tasty and more than enough, the men really liked the spare ribs and the crispy chicken. The ladies had cod and unfortunately it wasn't very warm, the taste was nice. My daughter had the caprese as a starter, which were two small simple sticks, not really a menu-worthy dish, too small and too simple. In combination with her very lukewarm cod my daughter was quite disappointed. That was a shame. For dessert we had a mix of several desserts. Our group especially liked the cheesecake. If I were to go there again I would order the cheesecake separately as a dessert. Tip for the owner: possibly also offer the soup with bacon in the vegetarian version. Because vegetarian bacon is also very tasty and then the vegetarians can also order soup. For those who experienced the heyday of the Lachende Koe this may now feel a bit like faded glory, but for those who cannot compare this social deal was in our opinion a good balance in terms of price/quality.

The product quality is not well maintained, the products are not fresh and taste strange. Cheap taste and poor quality. The pepper sauce tasted like soap and when reported, this was perceived as normal and was a common comment/complaint. Upon arrival you enter an old cafe, tables are worn out and the atmosphere is far from visible. We were a bit early so the music was still off, after standing around for 10 minutes to see if anyone came by the chef came out. From entering you have a view of the kitchen, which looked very messy and not hygienic. The chef doesn't even welcome us and simply asks if you have made a reservation. Finally we are greeted by a colleague who starts with what are you early (10 minutes before our reservation) He walks away for a moment and then deafening music comes on. (this should improve the poorly maintained interior and atmosphere?) As a starter, tomato soup was lukewarm and I had a carpaccio that didn't have much flavor. Main course was the steak with pepper sauce and I had the satay, the steak was beautifully served, but that soon turned out to be it. The steak was tough and the taste was bad. The sauce tasted very special. It almost seemed like a kind of soapy taste. The satay was very simple, resembled a chicken fillet fried without marinade with peanut sauce poured over it. so little taste. Compared to the steak, this was good. When this complaint was indicated, it turned out to be normal and from the sound of it, we were then asked if we wanted another dessert. The food was good. But hygiene is suddenly very bad. The employee's attention was drawn twice to the mouse droppings on the windowsill next to our table. It was not cleaned. Had a delicious meal with my friend. The food was very tasty. The wine I had was nice and sweet and I am secretly curious how nice this was😋 The pity was that the Arretjes cake strangely enough tasted burnt, which made it not tasty. Luckily the rest was tasty!

We had made reservations to eat out for Valentine's Day, and were assigned a table in the back part, not the nicest part and unfortunately it wasn't really warm either. Service was great, nothing to complain about. However, we missed the potatoes and warm vegetables with the main course. Has the menu changed? We saw that only fries and salad were served with the main courses. That was the only thing that disappointed us...

We had a delicious meal here together. The dishes were tasty and well prepared. Unfortunately, the interior looks a bit outdated, which diminishes the atmosphere somewhat. What was really a downer is that we were in a place where there was mouse poop on the windowsill. It didn't seem to have been cleaned properly for a while, which made the dining experience a bit less pleasant. Had this not been the case, I would have given 5 stars without a doubt.

Het eten was erg lekker en de bediening erg goed. Daar heb ik niets op aan te merken. Maar ik moest naar het toilet en daar ben ik enorm geschrokken! Wat een stank! En het was er gewoon vies! Ik heb mijn vriendinnen afgeraden naar het toilet te gaan want het heeft mijn avondje uit wel negatief beïnvloed.. Ik hoop echt dat hier nog es flink wordt gerenoveerd want dan krijgt het restaurant beslist 5 sterren.

Gisteravond, eerste kerstdag genoten van een heerlijk en gezellig kerstdiner met de familie(22 personen). Het eten was prima , drankjes gelijk aangevuld als het glas leeg was . Ontzettend hard werkend personeel die heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam zijn. Kortom een dikke 10 ! Gr. Klaas en Tineke.

Had the three-course menu on Saturday and it was great! The food was prepared quickly and tasted good and drinks were continuously replenished. All in all I had a great experience and I would definitely recommend it.

Going out for dinner on a Saturday evening… We were assigned a spot and were allowed to sit there, the rest was full. Okay, understandable. The spot was in front of the door, so I regularly opened the door and let all that cold inside... The service was new or very inexperienced (?) and we received our drinks quite quickly, after which we ordered food, only a main course. The drink was immediately scooped from the tray onto the table. It can happen, just a cloth, brush and dustpan and it's done again. Then almost an hour later, no food yet so just something to drink. And what do you think? It just happens again. Everyone pours drinks over the table again and smashes a glass. Oh well! Finally, after an hour and a half(!) of waiting, someone came to us to say that the order had been taken incorrectly and that it would now be prepared. The food didn't really taste to our liking either, so we quickly paid, got a €2.50 discount for the inconvenience... and got out of there. Never again!👎🏻

Walk in dinner on a Saturday night, was seated right away, first course service was swift and tasty too. Was served by a super friendly young lady Nikita (i know this is not how it works but she deserves a raise!!), she checked every few minutes if everything was alright, if anything else was needed, and promptly served whatever was asked always with a smile. Something was off with the pepper sauce, but as im not big on sauces this did not take away too much from my overall experience. Good food, service and price, the flowing drinks inclusive menu are a big hit.
