The food was delicious, the tartare, the fried meat with sauce and the salad bowl were huge portions. Even in an almost empty restaurant, the waiting time is long, so you have to expect that next time. In return, the service is very nice and professional!

We had a delicious meal and the staff was very friendly.

Worst restaurant I have been to in years. Long waits for everything. The staff walk past you 10+ times, and after 20 minutes we just left. You almost feel guilty for being there because they look so gloomy. You think this is an isolated incident, but nothing could be further from the truth. Exactly the same experience last year. The food was substandard then too. It is a chain; they know what they charge in terms of price, and that is top-of-the-line for a steak. So you expect top-notch quality and service, but it is simply the worst place in Leeuwarden and of all the restaurants we have been to in the past year. I feel sorry for the staff, who have to constantly put up with all the passive-aggressive comments from all the other customers who were there. It is only because Loetje has the name that this place hasn't gone bankrupt long ago.

It is a lovely place to sit; it is a pleasantly busy area right opposite Leeuwarden station. The meatball was really delicious; actually, it should come with some potatoes because it is a shame not to do anything else with that delicious gravy. The restaurant is also located in a beautiful building.

Dear Loetje Leeuwarden, I would like to file a complaint regarding my visit to your restaurant. During our visit, we eventually received a starter with great difficulty. The service was very laborious, and we did not feel that we were receiving sufficient attention. Additionally, at one point we were asked to leave the terrace because the staff wanted to remain seated on the terrace for approximately two hours after closing time. This struck us as very unfriendly. We were still present as guests and did not appreciate being sent away in this manner. All in all, our experience was very disappointing. We had expected much better service and hospitality from Loetje. I would like to hear how you handle this and would appreciate a response to our complaint.

I have nothing negative to say about Loetje. The mocktails and cocktails there are delicious, and you have a beautiful view of the square and the station.

Famous fantastic steak: fillet mignon. Tastes great, but gravy is made with Blue Band margarine. In this age it should be real butter (also for the price)This doesn’t mean that I will not come back! The food is still delicious, so, yes I will come back!😀

The food was nice, we all had the steak with gravy that they are known for. The gentlemen I was with all loved it, I found the gravy way too salty. The steak itself was nice, fries were good, friendly waitresses. The dessert was good too.

Had dinner with my husband on Sunday, July 19, 2026. My wife wanted a Loetje burger, but it was already sold out by 6:00 PM. We ordered liver, but it was completely burnt black. We cut some away and ate it anyway. I got sick from it that night. My husband had a beetroot burger, which didn't taste very good. We had reserved a good spot, but they were all already taken, and the two of us had to sit in the middle at the only table in front of the open doors.

We were there for lunch. Beautiful building, easily accessible location. The staff was friendly. The steak was delicious. Everything looked clean and tidy. In short, highly recommended.

We wondered in amazement today: is it self-service at Loetje these days?? Message to the owner: You employ an English-speaking young man whom we went inside to look for after waiting for 20 minutes, after which he finally came out. Instead of an apology, he spoke to us in a highly arrogant manner. The gentleman had other things to do, and if we didn't like it, we could just leave. (we are hospitality professionals ourselves with decades of experience) It was ultimately very tasty & pleasant at the neighbors'. Not very surprising that the terrace there was full and at Loetje there was zero custom.

Very friendly staff. But we felt the food wasn't fully cooked. We went to Loetje with high expectations; unfortunately, after a long wait for our food, which turned out to be extremely greasy, we finally received it, but had stomach problems after the meal. Unfortunately, this restaurant is not worth repeating for us.

We had dinner at Loetje on Sunday evening. We had to wait 1 hour for our food. A portion of fries was forgotten (not charged). The steaks were undercooked instead of medium rare. The second round of drinks also took a long time to arrive. Due to the expected waiting time, we decided not to order dessert. In short, a birthday dinner was very disappointing.

Not really set up for diabetics: no sweet potato. Hardly any zero drinks.

Had a delicious meal at Loetje. The service was also prompt and enthusiastic. In short, had a lovely evening. Until the waitress dropped a full tray all over the table and floor while ordering a round of drinks. This can happen, of course. Not intentional. However, due to wet clothing and a 'swimming' phone lying on the table, an apology or some form of compensation would have been appropriate. However, none of that happened. After which a colleague rushing to help even came to ask us: 'Was this your own fault?' After a negative response, she did not respond to that either. No apology or anything similar from her for the inconvenience either. Only the glass from the table and floor was quickly cleaned up. A disappointing experience.

Waited a very long time for food; plates were practically slammed on the table. The famous gravy is just disgusting. Burnt fat. Fortunately, the steak tasted as expected. The salad is very simple, though, with a nasty yellow dressing. I suspect it came from a jar. The fries were tough and cold. The dessert order was forgotten. A shame about our evening and the money. Fortunately, the company was pleasant and the weather on the terrace was beautiful!

Pricey restaurant, but oh, the steak is truly worth every penny, especially with my wine. Nice for going there occasionally or grabbing a drink on the terrace. Unfortunately, it overlooks the central station, but in good weather, it's a lovely spot to soak up some vitamin D. Very friendly staff who provide good information about the menu.

Delicious steak, but we had to wait about 40 minutes for it after taking the order. We ordered around 18:40 and didn't receive the food until 19:23. I find this quite extreme. We also ordered a bowl of grilled vegetables (€5.75), which is normally supposed to contain onion, mushroom, bell pepper, and zucchini, but instead we received 2/3 onion. I think that is a terrible waste of money.

We went out for a bite to eat together. We both went for an XL steak. These arrived so raw that the inside wasn't even warm. Never experienced anything like it. We took two bites of the steak and cut off a slice. Someone was called over and the steaks were thrown back into the pan. As a result, the cut-off piece turned into (logically) a shoe sole. The side dishes became starters, because the steak had to go back into the pan and you sit there waiting hungry anyway. No one says sorry. No one brings warm fries with your main course as an apology. No drink, no fries, or compensation in any symbolic form whatsoever. Apparently normal there. "New waitress" was the excuse. Very peculiar, in any case. I don't think the next steak will be at Loetje. A shame, because it used to be great!

Beautiful spot with a view of the characteristic Leeuwarden Central Station and always good food, as you would expect from Loetje. Highly recommended for anyone looking for good meat without the fuss.

To be honest, I am quite disappointed with my experience at Loetje Leeuwarden. For €34.50, you expect at least decent value for money, but that was nowhere to be found here. I ordered a small Bali steak, a bitter lemon, and received two slices of white bread with it. What I received felt anything but proportionate to the price. The portion was small, certainly for what you pay, and the whole experience made no impression that justifies this price. It felt more like I was paying for the name than for what was actually on my plate. Additionally, at a restaurant with this reputation, you expect a certain standard, but in my case, that was not met. For this amount, there are plenty of places where you *do* get value for your money, both in terms of quantity and quality. In short: a lot of money for little experience. No repeat visit for me.

Reserved for lunch on Saturday with 4 people. Super friendly staff. Nice table in a large restaurant. Good, familiar menu with all super delicious items. The food was super tasty, and the prices were reasonable (portions were large, so you won't go hungry here). Lovely, the sun was shining in; not a dark and stuffy restaurant, but wonderfully bright and spacious. Simply top-notch. Car parked conveniently around the corner. But it is also within walking distance of the train station. So, a great place.

The food was good. Very little on the plate, but expensive. Every side dish cost extra.

- Super salty steak/garlic gravy. Actually tastes only of salt. - I was not asked how I wanted my steak cooked. - I was served the wrong salad. I sent this salad back and asked for compensation, as the rest of the food had already been finished. According to the hostess, it had been taken care of, but I did receive a receipt for the full price of the salad. Very disappointing.

We had a nice meal, but in my opinion, the steaks are overrated; you easily spend 40 euros for just the steak. I found the taste quite monotonous and very salty.

There was a gap of well over an hour between the starter and the main course. The service was very poor; the wait staff were barely visible. The food, however, was very tasty and good.

Update: February 26, 2026 Had dinner at Loetje yesterday. The food was excellent, of course, but I was incredibly cold due to a strong wind. I asked for a different seat, but there wasn't one. Unfortunately, I ate my food in the cold, even wearing my coats to stay warm. I wouldn't recommend sitting downstairs on the right. Delicious food, fast service. The food is always good and plentiful. You don't need to ask for extra sauce because it's all included. €85 for two Balinese steaks and a hamburger, two beers, and four colas.

The food is good, just like at every other Loetje location. Only the service in Leeuwarden is disappointing, even on a second visit. Order: two steaks (one regular and one extra large) with some side dishes. Two regular steaks and side dishes are brought. We point out that it should be one extra large. The waitress disappears. We wait a long time. Then another waitress comes and asks if we'd like another drink. We'd prefer the extra large steak so we can enjoy a meal together. This waitress disappears as well. Unfortunately, nothing for a long time. Then a steak is brought, or rather, one regular steak with a separate piece of steak next to it. The message: this is the same as an extra large, otherwise you'll have to wait even longer. Enjoy your meal. Communication here could have been better, and of course, one regular steak with a separate piece is 'the same' in weight as an extra large. The experience isn't quite the same. And you pay a hefty price for it (I believe €25 regular + €15 extra large). Besides, you're dining together, and it's quite disappointing if one person is already halfway finished by the time someone else gets their plate. Then there's the location. It's a beautiful building. It does have many small spaces, though. We were in a room with three tables. It's not really a restaurant experience where you're dining with lots of people, but hey, others might find that a positive experience. It was certainly cold. It was extremely cold outside, but we didn't expect it to be so noticeable inside the building. We're fans of the Loetje concept. Unfortunately, the Leeuwarden location is no longer for us.

We had dinner at Loetje Leeuwarden tonight. We booked for 7:00 PM. At 8:35 PM, a staff member arrived with the dessert menu and the last round of drinks. So we ordered two cappuccinos and continued chatting. Two coffees arrived at 8:45 PM. My girlfriend approached a staff member and told him the order was incorrect. The staff member returned with very disappointing and bad news: no more cappuccinos because the coffee machine had already been cleaned. It was then 8:50 PM. How so? You still had four tables occupied in our room. And you closed at 9:30 PM? Very unusual and terrible. It was also extremely cold in the restaurant. No more Loetje for us.

Perfect! I've eaten here several times now, and every time it's been perfect: from the service to the food.

Delicious! As you'd expect from Loetje, simply excellent. The tables for two are very close together, so you can literally hear each other's conversations. That could be better. Otherwise, a nice atmosphere.

We had a wonderful meal at Loetje. The beef tartare was excellent, and the steak was delicious. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The service was good, but the apple pie afterward was a bit of a letdown. It came from the freezer and wasn't made with love. Not recommended for €8.50. Otherwise, very satisfied. Loetje's blond beer was also excellent, definitely worth having untouched.

The first Loetje I'll never return to. The gravy was cold within minutes, and so was the steak. This is because it's not served on a hot plate here. Maybe it's a nitpick, but when you see your neighbors getting something with their coffee and they've forgotten yours, the little things you notice after the steak are disappointing. I even mentioned this to the staff. "That's how we always serve it," was the response. I actually felt like I was being a nuisance.

The food was delicious. I found the first bite of the steak with gravy a bit salty. I normally eat little to no salt, so it took some getting used to. After that, it didn't bother me anymore, and it became more delicious. The side dish portions are generous. The dessert was also very tasty.

The food is simple, not always well-cooked, and the price-quality ratio is poor. Upon entering, everyone was seated in the section by the windows, while the rest of the upstairs was practically empty. There wasn't much personal space, and we were crammed together at small tables.

The food was good, but the atmosphere wasn't great; it was a bit dull. So, again, the food was good. And in my opinion, there's not a lot of choice when it comes to food. The meat was super tasty, which is what they're known for.

We received a warm welcome Saturday evening, and it was a good thing we'd made a reservation. The food was delicious, and my steak was truly medium rare. There was a wide selection of vegetables served in generous portions (where else can you find that?). Loetje's concept is that you serve your steak in gravy and get bread with it. I'm not particularly impressed with this concept, so I swapped my plate and left the bread. The desserts were also delicious. Serving coffee and dessert at the same time proved more difficult than anticipated. In short, good food, attentive service, though a bit expensive because everything has to be ordered separately.

Very good beef fillet!! We ordered the sauces separately. No problem. It's not everyone's cup of tea. The meat, cooked medium rare, was perfectly cooked!! A large portion of fries and a mixed salad are enough for two people. It was delicious!!!

Fantastic food! Tip: don't take on more guests than the wait staff can handle. It was very busy but sitting for almost half an hour with an empty glass and no wait staff nearby, I think is not how it should be... too bad!

Made a reservation yesterday. Upon arrival we had to wait at the front door for a while. Several couples who had also made a reservation were sent to the bar because there was no place yet. When it was finally our turn we were also asked to take a seat at the bar to wait for a place. Lousy service. We left and no compensation was offered. We will not come again.

The food was fine and the waiting time was also fine. A fine experience for a steak.

It's a good place to go, but not for vegetarians. Nice juicy steak, gravy and bread to dip in the gravy. Nice and old-fashioned. Friendly service and within walking distance of the station.

We had a nice evening, but that was absolutely not Loetje's fault. The room was noisy, the music was at a dull volume and there was little noticeable atmosphere. The host clearly didn't seem into it — no enthusiasm or hospitality. And if that wasn't enough: at 9:30 PM, five minutes after our table had been cleared, we wanted to order another beer. The bar was already 'clean' and that was no longer possible. With a bill of 300 euros (for 4 people) you expect much more service and customer focus. This was disappointing and definitely not a Loetje-worthy visit

It would be even better if you had the option of whether the meat should be English or well done or whatever... This option was not offered to us, so only 4 stars and our table was dirty. It would be 5 stars if the 2 points, which of course is actually the case

Update: I reached out and got a quick response! Very nice. The food was delicious, but way too salty for me. I had a stomach ache and heart palpitations for a day... The meat itself was good and the dessert was delicious.

Took a very long time, lazy waiters because it took a long time until they cleared the dishes and asked for a dessert menu. The rest of the food itself was good.

Booked at Loetje to end a fun day with friends at 6 p.m. Heard a lot about it, especially the steak. Now I'm not a fan of steak myself, so I ordered a chicken satay. It was gone. Then a Loetje burger? Unfortunately we no longer have those either. Okay, then the steak for me too, Classic tenderloin Bali with sambal gravy. At 7:20 pm we finally got our food. Waited for over an hour. My steak consisted of two small pieces. The sambal gravy was extremely salty, not spicy. I asked if I had gotten the right one, given the small pieces and the non-spicy gravy. It was just the Bali Classic, and it was 'Dutch spicy'. That's it. Steak not special. 1 star, for the service because there were apologies for the way the evening went. That's it, by the way. In short, very bad for a restaurant with apparently such a good reputation. I didn't get to experience it.

Unfortunately, our visit to Loetje Leeuwarden got off to a rough start. We made a reservation at 7:30 PM and arrived five minutes in advance. Still, we had to wait outside first, which was understandable. But once it was half past seven, there still appeared to be no table available. Instead we were allowed to sit at the bar, which wasn't ideal considering the late time and our hunger. After almost half an hour of waiting we finally got a table, and fortunately from that moment on the experience got a lot better. The service was smooth and friendly, and the food exactly met the expectations you would have from Loetje. The meat was perfectly prepared and the taste was great. All in all a mixed experience: a disappointing start with long waiting times despite our reservation, but ultimately a successful evening thanks to the good food and great service. Hopefully the reservation system will be handled better, otherwise it would be a reason to think twice about a next visit.

Delicious tenderloin steak with garlic sambal gravy. Unfortunately we didn't get that much bread, but 6 slices with 4 people. So there was a lot of gravy left over.

Are you kidding me right now?! Their garlic steak is so good - grab a side of green beans to round out your meal and you’ll be glad you came here.

We zijn hier terechtgekomen via een lunchdeal van AH. Heerlijk gezeten in de serre in het zonnetje. We konden kiezen uit 3 soorten ossenhaas. Wij kozen voor de sambal variant. Daarbij kregen we een lekkere salade en een ruime schaal friet. En ook gekozen voor een lekkere rode wijn uit Puglia. Onze (Engelstalige) gastheer was zeer gastvrij en attent. Al met al genoten van deze lunch. Zeker een aanrader!

We ended up here through a lunch deal from AH. Relaxed in the conservatory in the sun. We could choose from 3 types of tenderloin. We chose the sambal variant. We also received a delicious salad and a large bowl of fries. And also opted for a nice red wine from Puglia. Our (English speaking) host was very hospitable and attentive. Overall, I enjoyed this lunch. Definitely recommended!

Nice place to sit. The world-famous steak was delicious, but I was a bit disappointed with only white supermarket slices of bread served on recycled crockery.

Ate at Loetje last Saturday. When we arrived our table was not yet ready, which can happen of course. After a drink at the bar we were able to take a seat. The order was taken, but when it was served it turned out that a meal was missing. Before we could respond, the waitress immediately replied “it could happen”. I think we should say this and not them🤷🏼‍♀️. Bowls of fries and sweet potato fries were also brought, a bowl of sweet potato fries was later taken away (it was almost empty), it turned out to be for another table. Never do this, too bad. New ones have to be prepared for the other table. The missing meal was still being prepared, but this took so long that everyone in the group had already eaten. A coffee was offered as compensation, later the waitress indicated that she had consulted and that it could be dessert, on the house. Another employee came to ask if we wanted any more coffee, because they were going to clean the machine. You don't do this! We wanted 11 people to submit the final bill and this was no problem, great! Everyone had to pay €41, after receiving the invoice it turned out that the employee had rounded the amount from €40.23 to €41. It is not about anything, but as an employee you should not decide this yourself. The customer decides whether it will be completed. Still paid for dessert, this washes my nose. Loetje Leeuwarden never again!!!!
