Last weekend I went to De Rooie Kater for the fourth time with the Trabant Club. And every time, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great!

It was delicious! The shared dining option is definitely recommended!

We've been living in Eelde for three years now, and I think I've tried everything on the menu. Tonight, the food was delicious again, and we had more than enough.

What an awful experience this was....😥 Upon entering, we smelled a nasty, pungent sewer smell...absolutely unpleasant in a restaurant; when we inquired, it came from under the floorboards... My colleagues had ordered a schnitzel, and I ordered a Saltimbocca (pork tenderloin with prosciutto, sage, and marsala). This is normally an Italian dish that I love...I'll attach a photo...I received a boiled schnitzel with a lot of liquid (it spilled over the plate on the table, so I slid back...almost onto my clothes) and prosciutto...and it tasted sour...I said something about it, but according to the waitress, it was because of the marsala... I didn't agree, and eventually I was allowed to choose something else... Meanwhile, everyone else had finished eating, and the potatoes/fries/vegetables, which were also very small, were cold, and I completely lost my appetite... We didn't charge for the dish, which is fair, but we'll never be back! To... crying, so bad!!!!

We walked into the building, sat down for a bit, and were both convinced to leave! There's a foul, musty smell in the place, the restrooms aren't very clean, and the tables are sticky. It doesn't look inviting either. Seriously, we'll never go back. We're only giving one star for the atmosphere. We can't comment on the food because we didn't eat there.

The atmosphere is a traditional Dutch pub, but clean and cozy. We highly recommend the duck breast and the steak. The accompanying salad isn't great. Friendly service. It can get a bit noisy, though.

The food was very good, only the portions were a bit small for the price. It was very empty and there weren't many customers, but our waiter made a lot of mistakes. He first gave us the wrong dish and then even the wrong bill. They were very friendly, but they also made mistakes with other people.

Didn't feel like cooking, so I quickly looked on Google for a restaurant near Eelde and ended up here. The ambiance is a worn-out mess. Perhaps deliberately decorated that way, but it doesn't look very fresh. Same goes for the toilet, old, peeling slats, etc. One pasta with beef strips and one cheese fondue. The pasta had a hodgepodge of vegetables. Too many different flavors. Maybe it was a personal preference, but still. The beef was good. The cheese fondue was fine. From a can, but they're good these days too. The baguette wasn't very fresh. The side dishes included a variety of vegetables. I don't think cucumber is a great choice for cheese fondue. I prefer vegetables with more bite, like celery and carrots. Better to have less, but good, than too much. The service was excellent. The girls were friendly.

The food used to be good. But now it's disappointing. The salmon was dry. And the service was reasonable. But I won't be back. It wasn't good last time either.

Cozy restaurant in the village of Eelde. Lots of choice, also in dishes without meat. Service is very friendly. Outside a nice big terrace, where you can eat nicely. Inside very cozy decorated. The arrangement of the tables is done in such a way that there is sufficient privacy. In short, a real recommendation.

Took my cousin out for dinner at the Red Cat in Eelde, close to home. The last time was good service and delicious food. Today we had just sat down on the terrace and they politely came to ask what we wanted to drink. We had our drinks and menu, then after 20 minutes I walked inside to ask if they could take our menu. Since we saw them walking around and having a nice chat at the other tables, it seemed like they had completely forgotten about us. Okay, it can happen. After I politely asked if they could help us, we had to wait at least another 5 minutes. By the way, it wasn't busy, but okay. The menu was taken and I had ordered the mustard soup. The soup was too light in color for me. It looked like asparagus soup, but while eating I noticed that there was no bacon in it. This was mentioned on the menu: mustard soup with bacon and spring onions! I called the waitress and she took the soup to the kitchen to come back a little later with the message that the bacon was gone. Hm, okay, but then you have to say that before you push it in front of me. I could choose to have something else or eat the soup as is. I thought never mind, I'll eat it. I did so reluctantly, which is why, or because the soup just wasn't good, I got terrible heartburn afterwards. Ok, it's not our evening because we arrived at 8:10 PM and our main course didn't arrive until 9:30 PM. I sent the carpaccio meal salad back because the carpaccio was brown instead of red. I just didn't dare eat it. I got a new plate but didn't really see any difference. I called the waitress over. She assured me that the carpaccio had been replaced. In the meantime, my niece had already had her main course but was also still waiting for her fries hahaa it's so bad it's hilarious. In the end we didn't have to pay for the main courses, but we didn't have any. We left everything and went to McDonald's for dinner.... Pfff what an evening....

Nice restaurant with antique look with all sorts of things. You see them everywhere around you. Old traffic signs, antique tables, mirrors, kind of oil advertising from the past. It certainly looks cozy and pleasant. Service by waitresses was also fine. Nice young ladies who asked if everything was going well. Food was great. Everything was delicious, from potatoes to spare ribs. Fries or pizza. Tasted good. Ice cream afterwards, belly was full. Parking lot was close by, so there was certainly plenty of space. Definitely repeatable!

It looked like a children's playground, very young staff. Thought it was a bit too friendly. Food on the other hand was fine. They even talked loudly to the customers from a distance, so that everyone could enjoy it.... toilet dirty and lots of dust everywhere. Too bad. because food was good.

Our work outing ended at this restaurant. As an organizer, I deliberately chose this restaurant. Here they still serve the; ‘a bit of everything menu’ and that was very good. Wide choice of food since you get sandwiches as a starter, large main menu (which can be filled up unlimitedly) and optionally we also had a dessert. The service was good and the atmosphere pleasant. We had a good meal there and are very satisfied

During a week's holiday we ate here with friends. Nice terrace, inside funny and cozy and excellent food!

We used to come here often in Zuidlaren. Went to Eelde yesterday. Overall the food was fine, but really expensive for what you get. 28.50 for a relatively small portion of spare ribs. Portions used to be much larger. Staff very young. We sat next to the bar and often talked to each other about how they didn't feel like having a number of guests coming in. For dessert I ordered the tiramisu and accidentally got the monchou. This was accepted, but indicated that I had actually ordered the tiramisu. Didn't get a cup of coffee or something as a saving grace. Missed opportunity. All in all, some mixed feelings about this evening. I don't think I would go back there anytime soon.

Enjoy a nice meal with the family, two young children. The weather is nice, so a spot on the terrace. Tasty food and excellent service. But then, a few gentlemen on the terrace are shouting loudly at each other, using terms such as moron, scoundrel. They were not arguing, this was their normal way of “speaking” to each other. We addressed them and asked them not to shout these kinds of terms back and forth in the presence of children. They stopped shouting for a moment but then the looks and the comments started, they started addressing my children. The staff also spoke to them several times, but they couldn't do much about it, because these gentlemen were regulars. Who were we to tell them how to behave in their café/pub/restaurant. You just have to be lucky that it is not littered with regulars, or you have to feel completely at home in these kinds of circles, of course. Not recommended, especially with children. From now on, with a bow around it!

Enjoyed Christmas dinner with the whole family (reserved for 12 people). We had a choice from the Christmas menu. Portions (of the same dish) were very different in quantity/size. Meat was tough/dry. When ordering dessert we were informed that the dessert was no longer in stock. A very bad thing if a Christmas menu is offered and the dessert is not available. There was also a sewage smell in the restaurant and many small flies were flying. This was not worth repeating for us!

Don't often write a review, usually a nonsense. Often a hassle with those reviews. Unfortunately, many have something to complain about. Delicious dinner tonight, fast service and reasonable price.

We have eaten here several times, the welcome is warm and the atmosphere somewhat familiar. We know that the chef has given a twist to a number of dishes so that you don't eat them this way anywhere else. In our opinion, the main courses certainly score better than the desserts. Therefore just under 5 stars. We noticed some stress among the staff because not everything in the kitchen and service went smoothly. But we got what we ordered and on time. We will definitely come back again

Lunchtime on a Saturday. Rest. almost empty, 2 service staff and you wait forever. Food was OK. But not anymore. Neither nicely presented nor anything. The Mojito was something pre-mixed from a bottle with 1 lump of ice and 1 leaf of mint for €8.50, a disgrace.

Unfortunately I had several bad experiences here. I thought I'd give it another chance, but alas. It all takes a very long time before your order arrives. Cold fries with the dish, a few scant pieces of chicken that should resemble chicken satay. Thought I'd have something other than a pizza. If only I had had a pizza. Price/quality/quantity is pretty bad. This was also discussed with the staff. After several visits I have come to the conclusion that this is not really a good place to eat. Staff is friendly.

The food was delicious, it took a long time to get it. I think we were forgotten, but it was resolved with humor and such. It was also very busy. It's a shame that there wasn't much left, many desserts and non-alcoholic beer were gone. It was very nice, a very nice atmosphere

We ate there with 10 people, the food was excellent, but it was a pity that with some dishes you got fries instead of fried potatoes. Especially a shame if you order a schnitzel and you get fries with it

A cozy atmosphere, good food, highly recommended

The pizza marinara was downright bad. A can of tuna had been thrown on it and half the ingredients were missing. Response from staff "then you should have said something about it". So what I did. And "annoying for you". No excuses

Service well-intentioned but really bad, probably new staff Rose all over our clothes. Ordered ham but was told after an hour that they no longer had it, so I ordered pork tenderloin (3 small pieces) and left the table hungry! We waited 2 hours for this. Very bad experience this time!!! We won't be back!

We are actually always satisfied, but this was a real disaster! We had discussed a table for 2 at half past seven... The drinks took quite a long time, the food only came at 10 to 8 after asking a few times how or what... No problem if it takes longer, if it tastes bad...Yes, right!! Well my ham of 550 grams was a total mockery... very fatty and cold!! My husband's mixed grill...also cold! We had 3 drinks per person, which we had to pay for. When the cook was asked about it, his comment was: I can't witches! We paid for the drinks and left... Very unfortunate, but we won't be coming here again

Bad service, waited an hour and a half for the food, which was not good. Black potatoes, black spare ribs and sole fillets that look more like fish sticks. If we want to complain, the manager leaves.

We never really take reviews seriously, but in this case we wish we had. Inexperienced staff, (take drinks from the tray yourself), cold pizzas, 1 bag of fries for 4 people, potatoes not hot and overcooked, apple sauce was discolored, large portion of spare ribs are 7 bones, mixer grill (4 cubes of meat), in short, great bad. Only paid for the starters and drinks.

Normally we are regular customers here, but today was awful! Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Cold food, sauce that was cold/hard and could not be put on the ham. Waiting an hour for food when it's not busy. Reported this to the waiter a few times and all he said was: sorry, we know. Such a shame how the staff dealt with this, not even coffee was offered as compensation. For now you won't see us here anymore 🙁

In itself a nice place, but very noisy and a bit dusty. The food itself is fine for the price. Service was excellent, nice girls who served us well. I do think that a good cleaning would do wonders. It would be a shame if a place like this lost its charm due to overdue maintenance.

The first thing you smell when you enter is the wonderful smell of top dishes and if that's not enough, you enter a real homely atmosphere with old knickknacks such as old advertising signs, musical instruments and more. A really nice and cozy atmosphere and the food is also highly recommended. Great business!!

Sitting comfortably on the terrace...

We had dinner with 6 people. Received 1 bowl of potatoes with the main menu. There were 7 potatoes on top, half of which were burnt. Paid €260, once but never again.

Went a month ago, super nice and good. Went again today, what a difference, like a kindergarten class, food poorly burnt and little, service lousy and was more concerned with itself. So it's possible, but you won't see us there anymore, what a disgrace this tent is today.

I loved the atmosphere and the decor. For tourists like us, it was great to be among locals. The proportions are very generous and there are lots of choices on the menu. Large parking lot next door.

Het eten was opzich prima wel heel zout. Het duurde alleen heel erg lang voor ons eten er was na 2x vragen werden we ook gewoon genegeerd door de dame die ons zou helpen. Geen dessert meer genomen omdat het al zo lang had geduurt.

Op maandag avond een klaverjasles gehad bij Arie en zijn team. Mooi man

Leuk ingericht, Doet cowboy Range achtig aan, Bij binnenkomst een onaangename geur van een afvoerputje, Het voorgerecht was geweldig (macho nacho, en broodjes met kruidenboter) hoofdgerecht kon echt beter, de spareribs dreven in de marinade en voelden aan alsof ze gekookt waren ipv gegrild, Het dessert was wel weer top, tot slot vond ik het gek dat het hoofdgerecht bij een paar andere tafels eerder werd uitgeserveerd terwijl die later binnen kwamen dan ons, Conclusie, de sfeer was goed en voor en nagerecht, als ik zou weten dat er verbeteringen zou zijn ten aanzien van de afvoer geur en de Grill zou ik nog wel eens weer willen komen.
