This is a lovely place for a drink! It’s cute, you can watch the boats go by and the drinks are a good price! Recommend for a quick pop in!

Our favourite place to enjoy a good local beer and a great view of Amsterdam canals. Their menu is very basic, but the food is nice. Highly recommend for a quick gathering, not for a proper lunch or dinner. Friendly staff!

Classic place for beer on the canal. Very nice atmosphere. If the weather is good it's worth sitting outside. The Bitterballen were not the best we tried.

Remarkable brewery located in a beautiful place with very friendly staff

We ordered beer and received glasses that were still warm and had obviously just come out of the dishwasher. There was also water residue in the glasses. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he simply told us to wait, that the glasses would eventually cool down. In my opinion, that's not the right solution. Beer should be served in clean, dry, and, most importantly, cold glasses.

Such a cool off the beaten place to grab beers and snacks! The snacks were delicious and the views of the passing boats was amazing. Seek this place out, you'll be glad you did! Sit outside on the patio!

This is a must-visit pub in Amsterdam. The building is historic, the location is stunning, the beer is good, and the service is top-notch. I highly recommend it.

Lovely cool terrace with amazing service. Bibi was so kind and attentive all night, and even passed us a deck of cards! Would highly recommend if you’re stopping by Amsterdam!

Average dutch bar with average service.

The ladies working here are very rude. If customers greet you, the least you can do is greet them back instead of giving them an arrogant look and then continuing your conversation with your colleague. The entire staff does not belong in the hospitality industry.

Loudly across the terrace upon departure: "Gentlemen, did you pay?" Of course we had, with a nice tip. "Did those two bald men pay?" Colleague from the restroom: "Yes." We were allowed to leave. In itself a minor mistake, it should happen. But with three "male" staff and less than 25% table occupancy, it does get sad. But the core of the problem is that the two male staff members paid much more attention to their female colleague behind the bar than to the customers. Good luck, Sluyswachter, with these stars!

This venue delivers a diverse selection of cold beers, paired with a very attentive staff and an immersive view. Having a snack and a drink on the canals is an Amsterdam experience like no other, and this former gatekeeper’s house promises to blend historical atmosphere with modern comforts.

The outside seating is so lovely. We drank some beer - lovely. And was surprised (pleasantly) with coke and ice tea in glass bottles.

This venue has so much character and the terrace is just so beautiful. This is really a drinking cafe with snacks. The umbrellas are kind of beige which gives a warm atmosphere.

It's a beautiful old bar and building, with a great view over the canals and a lean to it :) And it serves Hertog Jan beer!

We sat down to have drinks and snacks and no one served us for more than 25 minutes. Then, a group of annoying british tourists came to the table next to us. They were served. Then more of their group came and just sat at our table without asking!!! Like, we were sitting at the table and they just sat with us, and touched my bag and it was just an awful experience, and very unprofessional from the staff.

Terrible service. We arrived with a nearly empty tray of fries from Fabel Friet, hoping to grab a drink and try something else. The waitress, without even saying hello, kept going on about the ten fries left in our tray, telling us not to eat them. Oh well, we just ordered a beer. Which, by the way, wasn't the one we ordered (the menu said Mort Subite, but we were served something else). Avoid this soulless place; there are so many nicer brown bars in Amsterdam!

A very pleasant place for a sunny Amsterdam day. We went when the first sunny days of spring were starting and the place was packed. We had trouble finding a place to sit, but it eventually emptied out. The view and atmosphere are very pleasant. It's a place where you can have a drink and a snack. There is an indoor area, but it is much smaller and noisier. You are guaranteed to enjoy the outdoor area on a sunny day.

Very disappointed by how rudely a group of elderly ladies was treated here for singing a few songs, whereas I actually found it so pleasant and enjoyable and would have liked to hear more. The bartender let them know in an unfriendly tone that he didn't want it, while the few people in the bar were enjoying it. A shame.

Cold tasty beer in the sun with incredible bitterballen - what could be better?!

A group of Irish ladies went there after a meal on 1st April approximately 9.30 pm and we were having a sing song and barman told us to stop singing it is not your culture so we drank our drinks and left and we were back in hotel for 11 pm. We found him extremely rude he said we were disturbing people . there were 3 other people in the bar and one was barman from the Monday night . Other couple we asked didn’t mind singing . I have been to several European bars and other ones in Amsterdam and have never had this experience .

Beautiful place, both inside and out. In the afternoon, we stopped for a beer. The young, friendly staff welcomed us. The atmosphere was lovely, in addition to the beauty and uniqueness of the place (it feels like stepping back in time). Worth a try, even just for a coffee: the attention to quality is evident (Bocca coffee, organic or plant-based milk).

Coming here everytime I come to Amsterdam. Might be the best bitterballen I’ve ever tried. They also have my favorite beer Tripel Karmeliet as draft.

RUDE staff. 🔻- ended up leaving after not being spoken to very nicely & additionally not explained rules clearly of how to order. Passive aggressive girl that spoke to us telling us to go outside just to order one drink which we wanted to get at the bar. Was recommended to come by to this place so was disappointing.

Tourists are clearly not welcome when locals are around. We had a good experience on Thursday: the bar wasn’t crowded, the service was good, and the draft beers were nice. On Friday night, we were treated very differently. We asked for a table and were told to wait. When a table became free, we confirmed with a staff member that it was available and went to take it. At that point, another staff member stopped us and said the table was already taken and that “the ladies” would be using it, seating them instead. This was frustrating, disrespectful, and made us feel deliberately pushed aside. Based on this experience, service here depends on who you are, not on fairness or order.

Lovely place, we had a glass of wine and some food. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend it; the place is super cozy and the outdoor tables overlook the canal. The wines were excellent. We spent a total of €25 for two glasses of wine, some croquettes, and some cheeses, and everything was fantastic!

My wife and I went inside and sat at a table, but no one waited on us. When I went downstairs to speak to a waiter, they were all chatting amongst themselves. They need to pay more attention to their customers.

Cool little pub in one of Amsterdam's famously tilted buildings. Relatively affordable pints for the city. Not the most intricate decor on the inside (we were downstairs as the upstairs was full) but also much less packed than many other places. Definitely worth a visit.

We come here every time we are in the city. It's a little more local with the people that are in there. If you're a tourist, as I am, please be a little more respectful here since it's a smaller place and more intimate with more locals.

Racial Bias in Service ​My experience was deeply distressing and felt discriminatory. ​After being seated, I waited for 20 minutes. During this time, the waitress systematically took orders from other separate tables that were seated after. I made multiple attempts to get the waitress's attention. She said "wait" then moved on to other tables and never came back. ​Frustrated by the obvious prioritization, I went to the bar to place an order. There were four waitresses behind the bar who all acknowledged me but continued to serve other customers who had just walked up. ​When I finally managed to ask one waitress if she would take my order, she dismissively stated, "We only take orders at your table." I explained that I had been waiting for a significant time, but she completely disregarded my explanation and walked away without offering any assistance or apology. ​The service was not just slow; it was an act of active, targeted neglect and refusal to serve that I can only conclude was based on my race. I felt profoundly unwelcome. This level of indifference and discrimination is unacceptable.

staff is terrible. Arrogant / rude / disdainful. It’s a shame because the place is actually cute. We arrived, all happy to have found this place, were told to sit for table service. We sat outside, there were 6 other tables. 2 arrived after us. The waitress came out asked every table what they wanted except us. We tried to get her attention she said 1 second then Left back inside and came back ignoring us again. If you look at the other reviews we’re not the only ones having that experience.

Especially go there if you want to be treated inhumanely❤️ maybe the waiter had a bad day, but deliberately ignoring your customers multiple times is really strange

Somewhere between the second mojito and the third, some sounds started playing that I didn’t know if were music or if it was the fridge talking. A guy next to me said that “we are all melting ice,” and from then on my drink tasted like radiators. I tried to pay, but the POS asked me “are you sure?” I wasn’t. The bartender winked at me, or maybe he just blinked both. I finally walked out, but I think the place was inside me. I’m still drinking.

Beautiful building, not so young, which catches the eye with its color, it is right next to a canal (one more) and during a boat tour you can see it from another angle. For people who want to consume, there is a terrace and the place is very pleasant.

A wonderful historic spot dating back to 1695, originally built as the house of the sluice gatekeeper in Amsterdam. The building has a charming tilt, adding to its unique character, and it’s perfectly located by the historic canals near Nieuwmarkt, offering beautiful views of the water and bridges. The atmosphere is very relaxing, especially at the outdoor seating area. The coffee was delicious and the waitress was friendly and attentive. A memorable experience worth visiting.
