What a wonderful and delicious evening! We opted for the 4-course surprise menu. What an explosion of flavors and surprising dishes. We enjoyed a wonderfully convivial and long dinner with friendly service. Highly recommended for anyone who wants something different and is a foodie.

Great experience, Salvatore is very good at giving advice and is an excellent winemaker, we will definitely be back.

Delicious!!! The best pizza in a long time. And super charming service. They also have many other dishes besides pizza. I would definitely try it there sometime! Because those Neapolitan pizzas go so quickly, we asked if we could share one first and then have a second. They thought it was a great idea. They brought them pre-cut on a separate board. Last night we visited De Waard van Napels for the first time. Friendly, efficient, and hospitable service in this beautiful and cozy restaurant. We chose a three-course menu—a surprise indeed. And what a surprise we were! Small amuse-bouches (I like to call them mûlterchjes in Frisian) already revealed the highly innovative, creative, and skilled team at work here. Among many other things, there was foie gras—but thankfully vegetarian—which was velvety smooth and melted in the mouth. They translate Italian recipes into the here and now, using local ingredients. And then there's the wine… Exclusive, perfectly matched to the dishes, with colors and flavors of high quality. In short: a surprising and exceptionally delicious meal. This restaurant is highly recommended!

We received a fantastic welcome. A unique menu, not what you'd normally expect from an Italian restaurant, but everything on the menu looked delicious (descriptions, no pictures, no worries). The food itself was absolutely delicious. While our daughter usually eats two slices of pizza, tonight she ate almost the entire pizza (which says a lot). For us, it was a short but sweet visit, but I can imagine you could also enjoy a wonderful evening dining here. Highly recommended, and thanks to the staff for their warm welcome. A big thumbs up for you.

We didn't spend our evening at this restaurant. Upon entering, our expectations were high—it's a nice place, and we received a friendly welcome. We saw oysters on the menu as a starter, and we both wanted to order them. Unfortunately, the oysters were sold out. Next, I ordered mussels with cheese sauce, and my friend ordered vitello tomato. The mussels were delicious, as was the sauce. I just needed some bread to eat the sauce with, so I asked the staff to serve bread with the main course. For my main course, I wanted to order cod, but that wasn't available either. I was offered gurnard as an alternative. My friend ordered an entrée—canneloni. The photo is of these dishes. The white wine I received was very good. When the dishes arrived, we immediately noticed that the portions were extremely small, and the food was very sparse. I received a small piece of fillet with a slice of pancetta on top and a cabbage leaf underneath, without any sauce, side dish, potatoes, or anything like that. See photo. The fish was cooked a bit too long and not very fresh. And the canelloni, well, there was one, also without sauce. A piece of dough with some meat in it. Unfortunately, the promised bread didn't arrive. We were both still quite hungry, so we ordered a pizza diavolo to eat together. Meanwhile, at the table next to us, two plates were placed, each containing three enormous pieces of lamb chop. I thought, hey, I love lamb chops, they weren't even on the menu, and those portions looked good. When I asked, it turned out the chops were part of the surprise menu. So we missed out on that. The pizza was tasty but quite charred on the side. I inquired about dessert, but there were only options with gelato and cheese. No classic Italian desserts like panna cotta, then. We were offered a coffee on the house, which was okay. We paid and left.

Mouth-wateringly delicious......... A surprising 5-course meal, both the dishes and the accompanying liquids. It was a very pleasant evening; a Frisian-Neapolitan meal..... No-nonsense 3.0 service........ We enjoyed it.

The food was very good, especially the surprise dessert. We received very friendly and courteous service.

A pleasant evening out for dinner. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a young woman. After ordering drinks, we perused the menu. As it looked good, we chose a starter and a main course. Perhaps dessert later. After about 20 minutes, the starter arrived—delicious! After that, nothing more arrived. The young woman checked on us several times, went to the kitchen to ask where our main course was, and even called her boss. Her boss was too busy socializing with a family table. We arrived at 7:00 PM, and by 9:00 PM, we'd only had a starter. We asked for the bill because apparently, we weren't important to the owner. Even when the owner heard we weren't satisfied, he didn't come—no apology, nothing. Kudos to the staff, and especially the young woman, who worked so hard all evening!

We had a truly delicious meal and drinks. A surprise menu with matching wines. Truly surprising, delicious, atmospheric, and welcoming. A very enthusiastic chef and sommelier who will pamper you wonderfully.

The atmosphere and flavors of Italy, far from home. After many days of vacation, we felt the urge to have pasta and pizza. Both choices were perfect!!! Authentic food and flavors. Perfectly cooked pasta. Neapolitan pizza equally well-crafted. And to top it all off, the kindness and professionalism of the owner. Keep it up, we absolutely recommend it!!!

What a fantastic evening at De Waard van Napels! The three-course meal with paired wines was simply perfect. The best pizzas in the Netherlands!!! MUST GO

Absolutely delightful. Beautiful restaurant, great atmosphere, hospitable and friendly, and delicious food. Eel, sea bass, and lamb, all incredibly tasty. Definitely worth a return visit.

It's a nice place. Friendly staff. The wait for the food is quite long. We both ordered steak. We got a portion to share, which is actually a bit small for one person.

Een geweldige beleving. We zijn hier voor de de lunch geweest en hebben genoten van het drie-gangen surprise menu. Surprise is misschien nog een iets te laat dunkende term want de verrassing was steeds weer majestueus. De gerechten waren ieder een overweldigende smaak explosie van mediterrane smaken. Elke gang werd gecomplementeerd met een weloverwogen gekozen wijn. Om de beleving aan te vullen was de bediening meer dan probaat. Met schwung, finesse en kennis werd iedere gang geserveerd. Voeg hier aan toe een meer dan aangename sfeer van de gelegenheid en de beleving is hiermee naar mijn mening compleet en adequaat beschreven. A must eat in Dokkum.

As I told the owner myself, the atmosphere and service are excellent. But the pizza, while delicious, could use a bit more toppings. I think you'd see more people returning then. But maybe the goal isn't to have too many pizza eaters. I'm curious about the rest of the menu, though, because it looked promising. So they'll definitely see me back.

A small restaurant with a limited menu, but that doesn't make it any less special! The saying "less is more" certainly applies to De Waard van Napels. The pizzas are incredibly tasty and the wine selection is excellent. And to top it all off, the service is absolutely top-notch.

The seating here is great, and they're very friendly. The food was disappointing. We ordered a three-course vegetarian surprise menu, but the portions were truly tiny, and we had to wait forever for it. As a main course, a small piece of braised red cabbage with a mushroom on top?! While it was hand-picked near Dokkum, we still went home hungry. The service was also a bit disappointing. The seven of us were only given six wine glasses and had to ask three times for the seventh. One of us has diabetes and always has to inject insulin fifteen minutes before eating. Because he hadn't anticipated it would take so long and nearly fainted, we urgently asked twice for a small piece of bread, but that also took another fifteen minutes. I won't be going back.

We waited about 50 minutes for a small, not-so-crispy pizza for €16.50. The portion size wasn't big enough to fill us up. However, the service was so poor that even after half an hour of constantly waving to the waiter, he didn't come to our table, even though we had actually requested a late-night order. Unfortunately, the value for money is completely out of this world. The service and the kitchen seem to be massively understaffed.

Heerlijk menu gegeten 4 gangen. Buiten op terras begonnen in de zon en heerlijk geëindigd binnen. De gerechten zijn tot in de puntjes afgewerkt en de smaken kloppen. Nederlandse ingrediënten met een Italiaanse toets. Bediening super vriendelijk van trotse Napolitanen. Wijn per glas ook van top kwaliteit!

What a fantastic restaurant. People with passion and delicious food. A 10!

Fancy some good Italian food and made a reservation. After entering, they make you walk all the way to the back. A table was reserved for us outside at the side. We walked all the way to the front again, to the side, to find out that there was also a door there. Ordered the mussels with bread board and a salami pizza. The mussels were tasty, the butter with the bread board was already half melted and since it was warm, it became liquid in no time. The salami pizza was a big disappointment. Thick crust, salami was transparent, little tomato sauce, lots of cheese and soaked in olive oil. A soggy, tasteless pizza. I ate a little and left the rest. The owner offered a cup of coffee as an apology, but we didn't feel like it anymore.

Afgelopen weekend een spontaan samenzijn met vrienden. Wat begon met even op het terras zitten in de zon, eindigde in een heerlijke diner buiten. De eigenaar weet je te verrassen met lokale producten. Heerlijk bereidde oesters, fijne tussendoortjes, en super mals bereid vlees. In dat kleine straatje voelde het echt even alsof we in klein Italie waren met verfijnde smaken.

Heerlijke avond in Dokkum. We gingen voor het verrassingsmenu. Wat een mooie combinatie tussen streekproducten (o.a. scheermesjes van de wadden) met Italiaanse smaken. Heerlijke bijpassende wijnen, met Italiaanse flair uitgeschonken. Daarbij ook nog het vriendelijke personeel en gastheerschap. Voor ons zeker een reden om nog eens naar Dokkum te gaan. Gratie mille!

Het eten was ronduit fantastisch. De pizza’s worden bereid in een traditionele houtoven en dat proef je direct: een krokante bodem, verse ingrediënten en perfect op smaak. Ook de pasta’s waren een schot in de roos – huisgemaakt, rijk gevuld en vol Italiaanse passie. Aanrader: de tagliatelle met truffelroomsaus! De bediening was vriendelijk, attent en had duidelijk kennis van zaken. We kregen goede wijnsuggesties die perfect bij de gerechten pasten. Alles verliep relaxed en toch efficiënt – precies wat je wilt tijdens een avondje uit eten. De Waard van Napels voor wie echt van de Italiaanse keuken houdt. Wij komen zeker terug!

Fantastic meal, wine and service! We happened upon this place on a Sunday after a long bike ride. They spoke English and helped us with the menu and our options. We ordered oysters, bread (get the bread!!), and a cheese plate. I ordered an intermediate plate for my main course and my husband got a pizza. Everything was absolutely fantastic. The wine we ordered was delicious and the server came out to explain how the producer made the wine to make it so aromatic. Overall 10/10. Best meal we’ve had in the Netherlands so far and would go back if we were staying longer!

The pizza that I ate here was the best I've had in a long time, a simple margherita, but an amazing taste. This makes it all the more disappointing that the rest of the restaurant experience just wasn't on point. To start of there were wait times like you couldn't believe. The air was also not fresh at all, like breathing in ash. I also believe the waiters were not paying much attention, as we wanted to get desserts but couldn't get them to our table, we eventually gave up and just asked for the check. This place can definitely be improved.

Sehr stilvolles, gemütliches Restaurant. Echte Kerzen sorgen für eine schöne Atmosphäre. Sehr freundlicher Chef und sehr freundlicher Service! Die Menükarte bitte besondere Gerichte. Es ist aber für jeden was dabei. Das Essen war hervorragend, 1x Pizza Margherita (besonders lecker und gut vertragen!), und 1x Risotto 👍🏼. Auch der Wein war sehr gut! das abschließende Dessert hat den Sbend perfekt abgerundet. Beim nächsten Mal in Dokkum sicherlich wieder zu de Waard van Napels!

Had dinner tonight at De Waard van Naples. We opted for a starter, intermediate course, main course and dessert. Our Italian host was a friendly man with a good dose of charm and a sense of humor. When asked if he had a suitable wine, he came up with a bottle that was not even on the menu. So exclusive stuff. Whether he got it from a secret cellar or secretly from his own pantry at home remained unclear, but it was certainly tasty. The food was fantastic, although we had plenty of time to look forward to it. Very long. So long that we wondered if they might have a secret sous chef in Italy who had to make everything fresh and have it delivered by Vespa. Anyway, once the food was on the table, it was more than worth the wait. Nice surprise: the chef personally came by to check whether everything was to your liking. Maybe he wanted to see if we were still alive after the wait, or just to be proud of his creations. Anyway, nice gesture. The only real downside of the evening? The time between courses. But hey, if you don't have to go anywhere and enjoy good company, a mysterious wine and a host with Italian flair, it's actually not that bad at all.

Dit is géén gewone pizzatent, dit is een fijne plek met eerlijk eten, waar je de passie van de chef en sous-chef kunt smaken. Ga er gewoon een avondje genieten. Wij aten perfecte pizza en dronken lekkere rode wijn; we kwamen vrij laat op een weekavond maar werden hartelijk verwelkomd (geen evidentie in Dokkum!) en tot het einde verwend.

Very tasty food. One of the few restaurants in Dokkum where you can also have an extensive lunch in the afternoon. The eggplant was sublime, the gnocchis with langoustines original. The service is very friendly with good wine advice. An address to remember and come back to!

Als familie hebben wij de traditie ieder jaar in januari naar Dokkum te gaan en dan staat De Waard van Napels áltijd op het programma. Het warme ontvangst, een klein stukje Italië in Friesland, heerlijk eten, fijne service: echt niet te missen als je in Dokkum bent. Afgelopen januari diner én pizza de dag erna voor de lunch. Voor mensen die in Italië gewoond hebben, brengt het een gevoel van ‘thuis’.

It really felt like I was enjoying a taste of Italy right there in Dokkum. But what made the evening truly special was the service. Recently ate here with partner. Surprisingly interesting menu that combines traditional Italian with Frisian/Dutch influences. Friendly staff and nice ambiance. Overall we enjoyed it very much and had a delicious meal.

Nu al een paar keer heerlijk gegeten bij dit restaurant. Een verademing om niet alleen pizza en pasta, die overigens heerlijk zijn, te kunnen eten, maar ook hele andere gerechten. Tot nu toe stuk voor stuk super lekker! En Salvatore als gastheer maakt dat je je welkom voelt. Top!

Het is een mooie open zaak waar voldoende open ruimte is. De ontvangst was hartelijk en we hebben voor het raam gegeten. Het eten was verrassend en de service was goed. We hebben mooie wijnen gedronken. Toch een paar puntjes van orde: Als je een voorgerecht brengt, zorg dan dat de wijn geschonken is , we waren nog aan ons aperitief bezig....dat is gewoonweg slordig. Communiceer in ieder geval. Dat bleef nu achterwege. Als je warm vers brood serveert zorg dan dat het gaar is...... Tevens stond de bediening te eten bij de keuken. Ik stoorde mij daaraan. Als je iets wilt proeven/eten doe dat dan niet in het zicht van de gasten. Helemaal in zo'n open bedrijf, ziet de gast alles.......ook dat je na het roken weer binnenkomt met je jas aan. That's-a-no-go. Een bedrijf met veel potentie, absoluut. Wij gingen er met een goed gevoel vandaan in ieder geval!

Wij volgen deze kok al jaren. Blij hem weer gevonden te hebben. Was weer als vanouds. Heerlijk gegeten en perfecte wijnen erbij gezocht door Salvatore. Deze kok en sommelier werken al vele jaren samen. Wij zijn nog nooit teleurgesteld. Ook onze vrienden die hier nu voor het eerst van de gerechten van deze kok konden proeven hebben enorm genoten. Kortom, een geweldige avond. Heerlijk eten en drinken. Sfeervol restaurant, leuke bediening. Is zeer de moeite waard.

Long waiting time. Guests who arrived after us were served more quickly. Pizza with a lot of edges and very soft, bruschetta was tasty, but €20 for 6 small slices was already steep.

Enjoyed a delicious meal, friendly/hospitable service and an authentic concept in the form of a mix between Italian and Frisian. My partner and I both had the pasta with veal medallion and a pizza as a main course. Both dishes were of high quality and very tasty. We will definitely come back again.

Yesterday we enjoyed a wonderful evening. Michael's dishes were fantastic and Salvatore provided great attention throughout the evening. The combination of fine dining and pizza for the children created a relaxed and perfect atmosphere.

We are a British couple living in France and staying with friends living near Dokkum. As food lovers we were delighted to find this Italian/Dutch fusion restaurant. A great welcome in simple elegant surroundings with an interesting menu concept. On a Sunday night the restaurant was full. The comfy chairs were most appreciated! We had the 4 course selection with wine pairings and the food looked beautiful. I’m happy to say the taste lived up to the appearance! Hard to choose a preferred dish but the main course of pink steak slices artfully arranged was stunning. Well chosen wines to accompany with good explanations. Service was friendly and prompt. The price we judged to be good value for a Michelin bib. Next time in Dokkum we will be there!

Food fine but very long waiting times. Bread not cooked and then after a very long time whether it could perhaps be put back in the oven, new bread again after a very long wait. Then double the bill! Cheese board with 4 tiny pieces of cheese, delicious, but 16 €!? Asked for a carafe of water but got 2 glasses and then waited and waited but no water. In short, we won't be back after this first time.

Had a delicious 4 course menu with a very good host. Good wines, and every course was enjoyable. We were also recommended a special wine that matched the meat. I thought the interior looked less refined than the 4-course dinner, but don't let that fool you.

We stumbled upon this restaurant at lunchtime. It was fairly empty, which is such a shame, but we were not deterred. The owner was so friendly, the food was amazing. It is the genuine Italian experience, he imports his tomatoes from Naples.

Es war wie immer ein Erlebnis,! Das Überraschungsmenü mit passender Weinbegleitung haben wir sehr genossen. Küchenchef Mike hat sich voll ins Zeug gelegt, aber auch seine Jungs sm Abend vorher haben bereits ihre Sache sehr gut gemacht und und die gelungenen Pizzen serviert. Vielen Dank für die schöne Zeit auch an den Service.

Vriendelijke bediening, royale glazen wijn. Helaas Buratta van supermarkt kwaliteit. Helaas lamsvlees met zeer sterke smaak zodat het waarschijnlijk schapenvlees was. Als met al te hoge prijzen voor deze kwaliteit.

Simple but very well seasoned pizzas with crispy pizza dough. Nice service, comfortable seating outside on a side street.

Surprisingly good! 5 course meal with partner. She doesn't like lobster, but she loved the dish with lobster, snow peas and pasta. Course next was a pasta with truffle and filled with artichoke. My girlfriend doesn't like truffles and even here they haven't been able to change that. I do: so twice this entree for me. Then fries pasture beef. More pronounced taste than the previous courses but less surprising. Very delicious. Two appetizers beforehand were also wonderful. Service top notch. The most special thing is that you can dine here all evening long, while people also enjoy a pizza come and eat. As far as I'm concerned, no objection. Recommended!

Nice restaurant that I already knew from Leeuwarden. The menu is a lot more limited. We ordered pizzas, cannelloni and parmigiana. Good food and good taste. The pizzas are of course Neapolitan style. The service was personal, what helped was that we could use our Italian.

We had a delicious meal here yesterday. The pizzas are truly Italian and the bread is wonderfully fresh in advance. We will be back soon!
