We had fish and chips, €22.50 each. It was good, with a small salad. Nice atmosphere. The restrooms feel like something out of the 1950s. The men's toilet bowl wobbles. No paper towels. They could do better!

Very disappointing, it could have been so nice. Location is fine, make the most of it!! The waiter, originally English-speaking, was very friendly!!

Arrived last Saturday the 22nd with family and sat in the covered area. Upon entering, we were welcomed very kindly by the staff 👍👌. At my request, a large white beer 🍺 freshly tapped with minimal foam on top. Perfect and nice and cold. Had a wonderful day and a delicious lunch. The carpaccio seemed to be good, as did the dessert. 👌

We had to wait a very long time for our food. It wasn't even busy.

We ate here for my 60th birthday. We ordered carpaccio three times as a starter, but we didn't think the color was very nice—rosé, more like light brown. The taste, however, was good. But you have your reservations while eating it. The onion soup was delicious. After that, our main course: 4 sirloin steaks at €32.50. Surely you would expect a tender piece of meat at that price. But nothing of the sort. The meat was tough, full of tendons, and overcooked. We had asked for medium. No, sorry, this is not worth repeating. We said we hadn't enjoyed the meal and got part of our money back. But all in all, we had high expectations, and unfortunately, they were not met.

Terribly arrogant service! As if they don't feel like working! Food mediocre! The only nice thing is the location and the only good thing is the service from the Englishman. The rest is substandard. Toilet also pretty dirty. We won't be coming back either. I'd much rather go to the old blue one or buy fish. Much, much better.

I went with the classic cappuccino and dutch apple pie , not sure if the cycling built my appetite but the taste of both were amazing , Rates were nominal too , please check yourself too

The waitress was very good, as was the English-speaking gentleman. This time we had the 'Darede Waegh' with a delicious set menu and, otherwise, very good value for money.

Had a great performance with The Boogie Dogs at the Jan Haring Race 2026. Had a delicious meal and the audience was amazing.

​I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at this restaurant was incredibly disappointing. The food was completely bland and lacked any real flavor, but that was just the beginning of the issues. ​Here is a breakdown of our meal: ​The "missing" egg salad Club Sandwich: I ordered a club sandwich that was supposed to feature egg salad. Not only was there absolutely no egg to be found anywhere in the sandwich, but it was also loaded with red onion—an ingredient that was nowhere to be found in the menu's description. ​Disappointing kids' meal: The children's chicken nugget menu was a joke. It came with exactly 4 tiny nuggets, and the rest of the plate was just piled high with cheap fries to fill the space. ​The €6.50 tap water: To top it all off, we were charged a staggering €6.50 for a one-liter pitcher of ordinary tap water. Charging that much for tap water is borderline daylight robbery. ​The Service: The waiter's service was highly lacking. Instead of setting the table or handing us our cutlery, he just dropped a pile of silverware on the edge of the table and left us to distribute it among ourselves. ​Between the tasteless food, hidden ingredients, tiny portions for kids, and poor service, we definitely won't be coming back. Save your money and go elsewhere.

We sat wonderfully on the covered terrace with a view of the harbor. The food was delicious, and no matter how busy it was, the wait staff remained friendly and were occasionally up for a joke.

The only thing stopping me from putting 5 stars in all categories was the extreme amount of salt in the soup and entree. It was still good but very salty. Nice and clean old building, friendly staff, good selection at the bar.

The staff seemed completely uninterested. They did not exude any professionalism. They did not come by in between courses to ask if everything was to our liking, nor were they asked when paying the bill. Furthermore, people were smoking in the covered area. This is very unpleasant in general, but especially when you are sitting down to eat. Unfortunately, not the best experience.

It's a shame that everything is served at the same time for a twelve-year-old, because by the time the soup is finished, the rest is cold, and that is a real pity. But otherwise, everything was fine.

Reserved for 7 people. Upon arrival, they had no space outside for us, only inside where no one was sitting since the weather was nice. We came with Rent & Event; a tip: make the menu selection a bit more fun. We paid €15 for a sandwich of choice; personally, I would also let people choose from a €15 sandwich of choice. Additionally, Efteling music was playing continuously, as if you were on the Dream Flight. 🤣 To each their own! The food was ultimately tasty; I had a carpaccio sandwich.

The building is stunning, steeped in history, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. As for the food, we ordered: The stuffed avocado: A surprising vegetarian option. The contrast of the goat cheese with the sweetness of the balsamic syrup and the crunch of the walnuts was superb. Very fresh and beautifully presented. The hot chicken Flammkuchen: A real winner! The base was perfectly crispy, and the balance between the spiciness of the chicken and the freshness of the aioli was exactly what we were looking for. The service was very friendly and attentive throughout. Eating in such a historic place and enjoying such well-executed dishes is well worth it. We will definitely return when we are back in the area!"

Absolutely great! Top-notch service, good quality wine, and delicious food! If I may mention just one point for improvement: the prawns with the surf and turf were from the freezer, that was a shame. Otherwise delicious! And really good coffee!

We had reserved for 8 people, but 3 more joined at the last minute. That was no problem at all. Even though the restaurant was full, they responded immediately in a very customer-friendly manner by adding an extra table. Top-notch service! We had a delicious meal at a very reasonable price.

Today, a nice bike ride from Purmerend. We pass Monnikendam and decide to get a bowl of soup and a drink at De Waegh. It is pleasantly busy, and I say good afternoon to the waiter. Some meals are served, and we wait patiently. Two people sit down at a table next to us. The waiter comes to take our order; we are apparently invisible. So we put on our coats, and fifteen minutes after entering, we just left, watched by four staff members. It's a shame something like that happens; it doesn't result in a positive review.

Waited too long to be served. Just for a drink. Also very messy. Decided to skip the food.

Yesterday I had dinner at De Waegh with the family. The sole, which we came especially for, was delicious, as were the prawns and the tournedos. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

The staff doesn't say much and is preoccupied with minor details. The food is simply good, but nothing special. The restaurant has an authentic feel, which makes it a pleasant place to spend time.

We had a delicious meal. The only downside was that the plates weren't preheated, as that would quickly cool the food. But otherwise, it was fine.

The four of us had a wonderful meal. Excellent house wine and delicious culinary dishes. The space between courses was great, allowing you to truly relax for a bit. The tournedos with mushroom sauce is highly recommended.

We had made reservations for four people for New Year's Eve. We booked more than three weeks in advance and received confirmation. We were traveling from far away, so we added a hotel. On December 31st, we even received a reminder regarding our arrival that evening! But guess what? We were met with a closed door! I called the next day and was told that "he" couldn't do anything about it because it's an automatic reservation system! So, it wasn't his fault? Sorry, but as a business owner, I believe you take responsibility when something goes wrong. According to the hotel owner, this isn't the first time something has gone wrong with a reservation. It wasn't the mistake itself, but the arrogant attitude of the person I spoke to that prompted me to write this review. It's a real shame, and this really ruined our New Year's Eve, as everything was closed and we couldn't find anywhere to eat last minute, 225 km from home!

Excellent service, atmosphere and food!

At least one star, because zero is not possible. We reserved a table at Restaurant De Waegh via the reservation system for December 31, 2025, at 18:30. The reservation was automatically confirmed. However, upon arrival, the restaurant turned out to be closed: we stood in front of a locked door and saw that everything inside was dark. As a result, the reservation could not be honored. An automatic confirmation creates justified confidence that the reservation is feasible. The risk of incorrect availability being set in the reservation system lies with the restaurant. Instead of a suitable solution or compensation, we were referred to “the system”. Conclusion: the reservation confirmation offered no actual certainty. That is careless and particularly disappointing for guests, especially on New Year's Eve. We advise others to take into account that a confirmed reservation does not appear to be a guarantee here.

Unfortunately, you have to give a star to write a review, but as far as I'm concerned, it's 0 stars, or even -10. We made a reservation for 4 people on New Year's Eve on December 8th. I received a confirmation. So you assume you can eat there. It's quite a distance away, so we booked a hotel within walking distance (so we don't have to drive and can have a glass of wine). On New Year's Eve afternoon, I received an email with a reminder for that evening at De Waegh. We arrived at 6:30 PM and everything was dark and therefore closed. Truly bizarre. There was nothing to eat anywhere nearby. Everything was either closed or full. Later that evening, I even received an email asking me to review our visit to De Waegh! What a flop! I called today, and a very unfriendly man simply said he couldn't do anything about it because it was an automatic system. A system can only work if it's maintained by the person in charge (the restaurant) and carefully records availability. He was aware of the reservation, but calling ahead about it wasn't a (customer-friendly) option for him. Unbelievable. Treating guests this way and shifting your own carelessness, and therefore responsibility, onto a system speaks volumes about the quality of the entire restaurant.

Ripped off... Ordered the Christmas box for Christmas Day and just picked it up. The email (see photo) says 65 euros: 500 grams of tenderloin, a mix of winter vegetables, roasted potatoes, and pepper sauce for 2-3 people. The email also only mentions heating up the sauces. When I got home, I was shocked at what I received... The tenderloin is 415 grams and everything is still cold. Not as promised... I called immediately and the message was: +/- 500 grams, depending on how they cut it. Unfriendly and unhelpful to the customer. So be sure of what you order!

We have water here a number of times over the two years we have visited Monnikendam. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are perfect. The Steak tartare appetizer is a must try, as well as the smoked eel appetizer! It was a fabulous and relaxed visit everyone! Also we had a fabulous waiter named James who we must personally commend and thank, his service level was superior and completely enhanced our whole dining experience.

A mix-up about our order was resolved fantastically, which made us very happy. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, the beautifully presented plates, and the excellent service. If we lived nearby, we would definitely return regularly. It was a wonderful evening in every way! Thank you!!

I just posted this on Facebook: "So, today marks exactly one year of marriage, but we've been together for over nine and a half years. We just had a delicious meal at "de Waegh" in Monnickendam and really enjoyed it 🙏😊♥️Nut had duck breast and I had sole.😋 Those sole were served with sauce, and according to my old boss, Marco Gianni from De Gerstekorrel, that was a mortal sin. He always said sole are so delicate on their own!! Absolutely no sea salt flavor, that you should never serve a sauce with them! Fine with cod and plaice, etc., but not with sole! He would have turned in his grave today; he died last year, because what happened now was truly a mortal sin. The sole were even served with sauce😱, even though I had already set the unnecessary bowl of sauce aside. I told the waitress, and she told him… I told the chef, who was very young when I asked, that they would never do it again. 🤔” The sole and duck breast were delicious, by the way, and the service was very friendly and attentive. They even gave us free coffee and tea, which wasn't my intention at all. I hope they actually serve the sole without sauce from now on, because that's absolutely unacceptable! I can highly recommend De Waegh to everyone. I think I've been going there for at least 25 years, and probably since 1985, so that would be 40 years. I will definitely be back!

We ordered lunch on Friday and dinner on Saturday. Both times, it took ages for the waiter to arrive. We made a reservation on Saturday, but it hadn't been properly received. This meant we could sit inside or outside on the street. The food is very expensive and the portions are small. The location is nice, as you can sit outside on the terrace.

The service was very lackluster. When we asked for food, we were only given the lunch menu at 8:00 PM!!! After asking again, the correct menu appeared. The food took about 1.5 hours to arrive. Unfortunately, the portions were very limited. Enough for children at most. It's a shame, really, given the price. The quality of the food is good, though.
