Ripped off... Ordered the Christmas box for Christmas Day and just picked it up. The email (see photo) says 65 euros: 500 grams of tenderloin, a mix of winter vegetables, roasted potatoes, and pepper sauce for 2-3 people. The email also only mentions heating up the sauces. When I got home, I was shocked at what I received... The tenderloin is 415 grams and everything is still cold. Not as promised... I called immediately and the message was: +/- 500 grams, depending on how they cut it. Unfriendly and unhelpful to the customer. So be sure of what you order!

We have water here a number of times over the two years we have visited Monnikendam. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are perfect. The Steak tartare appetizer is a must try, as well as the smoked eel appetizer! It was a fabulous and relaxed visit everyone! Also we had a fabulous waiter named James who we must personally commend and thank, his service level was superior and completely enhanced our whole dining experience.

A mix-up about our order was resolved fantastically, which made us very happy. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, the beautifully presented plates, and the excellent service. If we lived nearby, we would definitely return regularly. It was a wonderful evening in every way! Thank you!!

We just had a delicious meal at "de Waegh" in Monnickendam and really enjoyed it 🙏😊♥️Nut had duck breast and I had sole.😋 Those sole were served with sauce, and according to my old boss, Marco Gianni from De Gerstekorrel, that was a mortal sin. He always said sole are so delicate on their own!! Absolutely no sea salt flavor, that you should never serve a sauce with them! Fine with cod and plaice, etc., but not with sole! He would have turned in his grave today; he died last year, because what happened now was truly a mortal sin. The sole were even served with sauce😱, even though I had already set the unnecessary bowl of sauce aside. I told the waitress, and she told him… I told the chef, who was very young when I asked, that they would never do it again. 🤔” The sole and duck breast were delicious, by the way, and the service was very friendly and attentive. They even gave us free coffee and tea, which wasn't my intention at all. I hope they actually serve the sole without sauce from now on, because that's absolutely unacceptable! I can highly recommend De Waegh to everyone. I think I've been going there for at least 25 years, and probably since 1985, so that would be 40 years. I will definitely be back!

We ordered lunch on Friday and dinner on Saturday. Both times, it took ages for the waiter to arrive. We made a reservation on Saturday, but it hadn't been properly received. This meant we could sit inside or outside on the street. The food is very expensive and the portions are small. The location is nice, as you can sit outside on the terrace.

The service was very lackluster. When we asked for food, we were only given the lunch menu at 8:00 PM!!! After asking again, the correct menu appeared. The food took about 1.5 hours to arrive. Unfortunately, the portions were very limited. Enough for children at most. It's a shame, really, given the price. The quality of the food is good, though.

Beautiful atmospheric ambiance. The service did not seem very interested in their guests. We sat there for almost 2 hours and were only able to order a drink once. After a while of trying to contact them, I walked over to the waiter to ask for the menu to order some snacks. Even then, no order was taken. It was quiet in the restaurant and there were three serving staff members walking around. They were mainly busy preparing tables for dinner. A year ago I had lunch there once and then the service (and the food) was fine.

As a former informal caregiver, I noticed a surprise lunch at the inner harbour, beautiful and wheelchair accessible. Tasty fish dish, soup a bit on the salty side. Nice atmosphere. We will definitely come for dinner sometime.

Not recommended. The menu stated that the soup of the moment was vegetarian. So I thought: great, I can take that. To my surprise there were balls in the soup. When I mentioned this to an employee, he said very nonchalantly: oh, those must be oxtail balls. No excuse, no discount, nothing. I could pay €9.50 for that.

Saturday evening 9/14 we had dinner at the waegh with our neighbors/friends. It already started badly. We had made a reservation and were able to show the confirmation. Wasn't known but were still able to sit in an almost empty restaurant. 1. Baguette was not cut all the way through. 2. staff wore clothes in their spare time, they didn't feel like it. 3.Ladies wanted a glass of wine, glass was filled about 2 cm. 4. My wife ordered fish and was served unfilleted fish on the plate, after which my wife asked if it could be filleted, to which the answer came: I have never experienced this before and the clerk asked a colleague and he replied that he could. could do, but there was little left, after which my wife said: yes, but if I have to do it myself, there is little left. 5. I had to hold my tournedos (31€) with my fork otherwise it would blow off the plate. This one was so small and full of sinews. 6. My neighbor's rice was undercooked. 7. Whipped cream was supposed to be fresh but came from a spray can. This was once but never again.

Very bad service from a gentleman in his casual clothes... and not just with us but with all customers on the outside terrace. Everything just took way too long. And then the place was far from full. Long wait for drinks. If your drink is empty, you can also wait a long time before he comes back to your table to ask if you want something to drink, that kind of thing. Also with payment. I almost walked away, it took so long... Eventually, with pain and effort, he gave me my change back, but hey, if you act like that, you can't expect to get a tip!!! Bad for the chef and the rest of the staff. Because the cook, for example, was very neat and polite, neatly came to the table to serve and install everything! The food was okay too. 9 plus for the cook, that's for sure!

What a cozy restaurant, in a special building. Beautifully situated on the harbour. We had lunch here and it was delicious, the fish salad was rich and had a perfect taste, I enjoyed it. Good coffee and very nice staff. Highly recommended in Monnickendam!

Came here for a cup of coffee in the morning during a business meeting. They had just opened and with a lot of pain and effort we were able to get coffee. Unfortunately there was no service. Perhaps this was a one-off event, but I won't be going here again.

We ate there halfway on the bike route to Marken. Very cozy place, both inside and on the terrace. Abundant portions and friendly staff.

It's time to close the tent. The young man at the service puts the drinks on the 1st table and you just figure out who has what. The same story with food. Even a fried egg is not warm. Why does one put ice cubes in the coke and the other not in the coke? Shame that the municipality does not revoke your permit.

August 6, 2024 A restaurant recommended by the owner of the accommodation in Monnickendam, a pretty village I visited for the first time in the Netherlands. Even my wife, who doesn't like fish and is picky, really enjoyed the eel dish. The mussels are larger and much fresher than those found in other famous tourist destinations. The fried sea bass was also plump and excellent. I was grateful that they carefully recommended food and served us very kindly during our stay.

Cute little restaurant right on the old fishing harbor with a view of the lock. Very nice service and super delicious food.

Food was ok, salman tartar starter was good, but the main which was pork belly and shrimp was tiny, the shrimp part was one small gyoza, and very over priced. Service was terrible. It took 20 minutes just to get to see a menu. We had to go to the bar to order everything as the waitress just didn't come back.

Had something to drink on the terrace on Friday during the cheese market. The only downside was that we sat next to a table where people were smoking. Service was cordial, fast, friendly, but businesslike.

The zucchini soup with smoked salmon is delicious! The prices are good and the environment is very nice and quiet!

4/5 stars The restaurant offers excellent food at great value for money. Particularly noteworthy is the fresh peppermint tea, which is served with fresh leaves and is excellently presented. A small point of criticism is the speed of the staff. It is difficult to say whether this is due to personnel management or the number of service staff. After serving the food, I had to wait about 20-25 minutes for the dishes to be cleared. So if you take some time, this isn't a big problem. However, wanting to eat something spontaneously and quickly could be difficult. Overall, the service was very friendly, which is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars despite the slight delays.

The food used to be better, but the service is really bad. Apparently “locals” are served normally, we waited forever for our food, and when we asked friendly questions the service was unpleasant. In some cases, orders were not brought correctly and drinks were only brought when asked. Rarely have I experienced such inattentive and disinterested service. The kitchen can cook whatever it wants, but De Waegh is a negative experience due to the service staff.

Came here for dinner very unexpectedly. What a surprise. Such a delicious meal! Delicious zucchini soup and main course the best pepper sauce ever with a tasty tournedos. The mussels were also tasty. And delicious Pinot Grigio too, by the way.
