Slow service but delicious food

My husband and I had dinner at Diggels on July 4th. The food itself was fine, nothing special, and the service was quick. So quick that we even got the idea that our table had to be freed up again soon, but oh well. The coffee was undrinkable, and when we gave the service a small tip about this, we were snapped at. Double espresso served in a mug because "we are not in Italy here" was the argument. We sat outside on the terrace, cozily next to a Brabantia waste bin in which waste and food scraps from other tables were constantly thrown. When I asked if this could be moved, the response was not very friendly or understanding. We also think the price/quality is very poor. With some dishes you have to order fries and vegetables etc. separately. That means that you then spend an average of 33 euros for a simple pork tenderloin and a small bowl of fries (at 6 euros) No, from now on we will sit next door at the Italian or something. Diggles isn't what it used to be, unfortunately.

Prijs kwaliteit duur. Ik vroeg om een ceasarsalade. Kreeg ik de vraag wil je hier kip of gamba s bij bestellen. Naar mijn idee is ceasarsalade standaard met kip. Dit heb ik dus niet besteld. Toen rundvlees kroketten met brood besteld. Rundvlees nergens kunnen vinden. Ze waren smaakloos met hele kleine boterhammen. Mijn man had een 12 uurtje met tomatensoep. De soep leek op tomatenpuree. Dus dit was de laatste keer.

I think a Caesar salad should have chicken. You can order this separately. I don't think that's how it's supposed to be. Too bad the beef croquettes don't taste like beef.

Had a tasty lunch here with my family (with 2 little kids). I found the atmosphere to be charming and cozy. I can imagine it must get loud on a busy Friday night, but sometimes that can be fun. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Er misten 4 ingrediënten in het lunchgerecht. Het werd teruggenomen met veel excuses. Ik kreeg vrij vlot opnieuw eten. Nu misten er nog steeds twee ingrediënten. Verder kijkt de bediening niet rond om te zien of er gasten wenken. Jammer. Ik raad dit restaurant af.

We came by again with our 92 year old mother, after having made a reservation. We had to sit in a small room at the front, which was packed, with a table of 18 incl. Kline Children next to us with a lot of noise, and running around the table, the noise in this packed space was so bad that we could not understand each other. We wanted alcohol-free wine for mother, which they did not have, only beer and cocktails said the friendly young man who helped us. I went to the large restaurant and asked if we could dine there, because my mother was completely panicking because of the noise. The place was completely empty. You would think that that was possible, well no way. Everything was reserved said the manager, yes I said, we have that too. I could already tell from the attitude that this was not going to happen. We decided to leave, because we did not accept this for a moment! I think that is not the owner's policy either... The manager also indicated that he had alcohol-free prosecco, but that was mustard after the meal. No, we don't come here anymore.

We had made a reservation well in advance and noted in the comments that we would like to be on the terrace when the weather is nice. Now we arrived and the weather was nice. Marcel indicated in an extremely disrespectful manner that we had to sit inside and that reservations cannot be made on the terrace, while there was a reservation sign on a table on the terrace, where people sat who had not reserved! And a few weeks ago, people on the terrace were turned away because other people had made reservations on the terrace. Explain that! Conclusion: There is arbitrariness! We left as loyal customers! Very unfortunate! We had a birthday and we thought we would go to our village restaurant where we have been coming for more than 30 years. Not so!

Evert, top! Jaqueline, top! Rinze, top! Rick, top! Chantal, top en de rest top! Behalve: Marcel, wat een L U L! Hoe hij klanten benaderd, is gewoon onrespectvol en onprofessioneel! Wij hadden ruim van te voren gereserveerd en bij de opmerkingen genoteerd dat wij, bij mooi weer, graag op het terras wilden. Nu kwamen wij aan en was het mooi weer. Marcel gaf met een ontiegelijke respectloze manier aan dat we binnen moesten zitten en dat er op het terras niet gereserveerd kan worden, terwijl er op het terras een gereserveerd bord op een tafel stond, waar mensen gingen zitten, die niet hadden gereserveerd! En een paar weken geleden werden mensen op het terras nog weggestuurd omdat er andere mensen hadden gereserveerd op het terras. Leg dat maar uit! Conclusie: Er is sprake van willekeur! Wij zijn als trouwe klanten weggegaan! Erg jammer! We hadden een werjaardag en we dachten gezellig naar ons dorpsrestaurant waar we al meer dan 30 jaar komen, niet dus!

We came for the Italian but unfortunately the terrace was closed. The reviews at Diggels sounded promising, but what a disappointment. The service was downright bad. Long wait for drinks, your food. The starter was disappointing, the VG with scallop sounded tasty but was a mouthful of cream. When the HG came, our VG was still in front of us. Cutlery was missing, they only brought it 5 minutes later. When I spoke to the waiter about it, he said he was busy with other things. The steak was rare when it was supposed to be medium. We did ourselves a favor and got dessert elsewhere. Left 100 euros lighter and slightly irritated.

Sat at a table on the walk to the kitchen. That was a bit less. Regularly bumping into your chair with food spilling out. Food itself was great. And very pleasantly busy.

Nice restaurant with good service as well as a nice menu. We enjoyed it! One minor, the restaurant was really full with little space between tables, thus making it noisy and difficult for “seasoned” ears.

Sort of an old pub, but that doesn't do the restaurant justice. Aachen to the atmosphere. Because there is great food. Nice, alert and relaxed service. The tables are a bit close together, but it didn't bother us. Toilets are dated but that's part of it. We have become regular guests.

Perfect place for a delicious meal before the theater! Diggels is a cozy and attractive café with the charm of a brown café, but with a modern twist. The service is incredibly friendly and makes you immediately feel welcome. We enjoyed a delicious dinner before going to the theater. The escargot and steak tartare as a starter were perfectly prepared and full of flavour. As a main course we had a fantastic schnitzel, exactly as it should be: crispy, juicy and served German-style with a delicious sauce. The hamburger was also great, juicy and tasty, with crispy fries. The atmosphere, service and food make Diggels an ideal place to enjoy a delicious meal before a night out. Definitely recommended!

The four of us had dinner here on Valentine's Day. And it was wonderful and cozy again. The service was also top and knowledgeable. This restaurant remains my absolute number 1 in the Rotterdam area. I will eat here again soon. Even though you pay a little more, it is absolutely worth it. What a great restaurant.

Very cozy tent for a nice lunch. Dinner will undoubtedly be good too. Free parking in front of the door. Where else do you see that? It has the atmosphere of a brown pub. Very cozy. Definitely recommended. There's one thing you shouldn't do. Drive back to the dike. Not allowed and there is a speed camera.

Een goede sfeer, lekker eten, en zeer vriendelijk personeel. De kleine man was vooral blij met het grand dessert. Maar al het eten was erg lekker.

A pleasantly busy location.. very lively and also in a beautiful and rustic part of Barendrecht. The food and service were okay, although I sometimes found it difficult to contact the service. Once at the table, they are very friendly and (very important) they serve a really good cup of coffee. Reservations are recommended, as this location is very popular (also for lunch)!

An old-fashioned cafe with good service and a cozy atmosphere. In a top location if you want to go to the theater, for example. The food, on the other hand, was less. We ordered a kimchi burger, the kimchi flavor was nowhere to be found and the burgers were very dry. It is special that this is on the map as a runner. The coffee afterwards comes from a machine. In short: great place for a quick bite before the theater, but not recommended for food.

Heerlijk gegeten tegen een goede prijs, gezellig inrichting. De bediening was ook vriendelijk en netjes. Gezellig samen met mijn vrouw getafeld. Hier kom ik weer. In oktober hier met 10 man gedineerd, het was met zo’n grote groep ook heel goed om te doen. We werden toen ook fantastisch bediend, zij wist hoe je met een grote groep mannen om moest gaan. Een goed restaurant.

Een gezellig bruin café qua uitstraling maar een restaurant qua kaart. En een zeer uitgebreide kaart. Ondanks dat er zoveel verschillende gerechten op de kaart staan, is alles even goed en lekker. Ook is het eten erg compleet en de bediening helpt je goed bij de keuzes. De bediening komt regelmatig even langs of alles goed en voldoende is en of je nog wat wilt drinken. Brood vooraf was heerlijk knapperig mer 3 dips (aioli, kruidenboter en olijfolie) Ook de desserts zijn aan te raden. Heerlijke verse canolli's. Wat heerlijk gegeten en gezellige ambiance.

Vreselijke bediening! Het bord wordt zo onder je neus weggehaald als het te lang duurt,naar de zin van het personeel. Ook twee keer meegemaakt dat dezelfde ober, ronduit onbeschoft op een vraag en klacht reageerde. Eten en de locatie voldoet zeker wel aan de wensen.

Had a High Tea package at Diggels, it was very tasty and prepared with care. You were given sufficient time between the delicacies served. So you weren't immediately full from all the drinks you were served. The fresh teas were also very tasty. Highly recommended to have a High Tea at Diggels.

A lovely cafe in the old part of Barendrecht. A beautiful and cozy interior and during beautiful summer days also an open terrace on a pleasant square. My recommendation here would be the spare ribs with teriyaki sauce, they are so delicious! But the mussels, satay or steak are also more than good. Service is very good and also very fast! My regular place for spare ribs!

A quick stop while cycling on the nice terrace

Wij hebben hier op een zaterdagavond gegeten en we hebben erg lang op zowel het voorgerecht als het hoofdgerecht moeten wachten. Bij beide gerechten aan de bediening gevraagd hoe lang het nog ging duren en het antwoord was dat het erg druk was, zowel binnen als op het terras. Lijkt mij dat de keuken dat blijkbaar niet aan kan. Ik vind het te lang als ik om 18 uur reserveer en pas na 20 uur een hoofdgerecht op tafel heb staan en twee keer moet informeren hoe lang het nog gaat duren. Wij voelden ons alle vier geërgerd hierdoor en hebben besloten om geen dessert en koffie te bestellen, omdat we geen zin hadden hierop weer lang te moeten wachten. Gemiste kans voor Diggels lijkt mij, als dit bij meerdere klanten zo gaat. Hierdoor zullen wij niet snel terugkomen in het weekend. Wil er nog wel aan toevoegen dat wat we uiteindelijk op tafel kregen, allemaal erg lekker was en dat de bediening ook prima in orde was.
