Friendly service, but I find ordering via an app, just like during the pandemic, impersonal. The coffee, though, is super tasty.

The worst matcha latte I’ve ever had. Since when is matcha so sweet? It tastes like they added a huge amount of sugar. Otherwise, the café is nice—quiet and cozy—and the staff are very friendly. But if you don’t want an ultra-sweet matcha latte, you’re better off ordering something else.

Je voelt je thuis waar je Douwe Egberts drink. One of the best iconic slogan of all time this has a long history so I decided to visit this Cafe to try how the Matcha Iced Latte was and it's a great drink. First time visit this Cafe and it's a great place to relax and having a zen moment for your drink. I arrived during a not so busy time. I recommend this place.

The atmospheric Douwe Egberts Café is located in the heart of Groningen. Relax at the reading table with a good book or magazine and listen to soothing music. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed a delicious Americano here. It's definitely a great place I'll definitely visit again.

Waited a really long time for coffee, we will never go here again

My wife and daughter (3) had lunch here. Unfortunately, we wouldn't go back. Despite it being a beautiful building with a nice atmosphere and a fun children's play area, we weren't entirely satisfied overall. The sandwiches we had (baguette with ham and brie and the grilled brie sandwich) were very sparsely filled, and the bread could have been cooked/grilled a bit longer. Especially considering the price. We're certainly not above paying a lot for food, but then it has to be good... and in our experience, it wasn't quite that good. We also felt the service could be improved. All the glasses and dishes were placed in one place on the table, even though there were three of us sitting there. It seemed to us as if the young staff member wasn't really interested.

I love this cafe. The pumpkin spice latte is delicious, sadly just for the season. Their pancakes, the old Amsterdam swirl, brownies and croissants are great :) The service is very good, the ladies always are happy and kind.

It's a a good place to hangout with a friend over a cup of coffee, or when you just want to catch up on your assignment. Atmosphere and service is good.

Lovely and peaceful place, perfect for remote work, reading, writing, quiet reflection, or small gatherings. They have a small library and some fun games. The music creates a relaxing atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Great selection of food and desserts, with plant-based milk options like almond and coconut. Free Wi-Fi and water available. Highly recommended for a cozy and productive visit!

Delicious coffee with social deal

Cozy cafe with very friendly staff! The coffee and pastries were ready quickly and tasted delicious! Highly recommended!

Bad business and customer friendliness is hard to find. Used a strip card via Social Deal, which was valid until the end of March, this was not stated when redeeming or visible on the strip card. No understanding from staff for this. Won't go here anymore, often enough I've had a weak container with whipped cream, which they want to sell for €5 each. Heavily overpriced and can recommend other coffee shops, such as Doppio and Black & Bloom. We no longer visit Douwe Egberts.

Nice conveniently placed cafe. Plenty of cakes on offer and the coffee is very good. The cafe is a lot larger than it looks as there is a large area at the back. I liked the decor apart from the stripped wall that was dusty.

The price/quality ratio is really poor. You can't even sit down for lunch because it's full of laptops all day. The staff is friendly, though.

They give lactose in coffee and food here after specifically requesting lactose-free, which clearly does not work well. In addition, it takes them 1.5 hours to even make a simple coffee. Definitely not recommended

So kind and sweet workers here, we forgot to order take-away but they didnt mind that and immediately remade our order. Ambiance was cozy and peaceful, thank you to the girl that took care of us!🫶🏻

Fff and make (delicious) coffee. Relaxed atmosphere to consult your i-book, or look through some reports, or just have a nice chat. Not really cheap 2xcoffee,2x pastry=18.50+tip makes 2 tens. Maybe that's normal in Groningen. But I just came from Italy, where you pay half, so I'm ruined

What a regression. Quality of the chocolate milk has deteriorated, ginger and mint are not fresh. We have been at least 200 times in almost 3 years, but today was the last time. What I think is worst is that there is a lot of disinterest on the part of the staff. There are holes in the walls, tufts of dust under the chairs, dead plants and a broken lock in the ladies' toilet. You're losing a regular guest.

This is possible for a quick cup of coffee. Not for fun. And the cookies and sandwiches are very pricey.

We had obtained a voucher for 2 ice coffee/ice tea. Once we arrived, the waitress who helped us seemed grumpy. I had a cappuccino with caramel syrup. However, the caramel was hard to find here... the ice coffee was not tasty. My husband's ice tea was delicious! The worst thing for me is that the blonde waitress was sighing and snorting when a new customer walked in. She clearly showed that she had no interest in customers. Even while taking her order she acted very disinterested. It is a fantastically beautiful restaurant but the atmosphere is nothing.

This is a great place for an informal business conversation. Sober, comfortable and the acoustics are good, so great for a good conversation. It was not clear to me how the service worked: pick up yourself, can you wait until you are served at the table or is there something with a QR code?? Anyway, in the end the coffee was fine and the service was friendly. Recommended for an informal business conversation in "City".

Coffee house furnished in a modern way in the style of the '70s and '80s of the last century. The order is made at the table using small tablets with a QR code, where you can order your culinary delight, which will be served personally by the waiter shortly afterwards... Very, very classy...

First of all it must be said that the staff is always super nice and friendly. The rooms are beautifully decorated and give a peaceful impression. Perfect for flexible working. However, the final grade (a 2) is due to the laptop policy that employees have to follow, which they cannot do anything about themselves. I understand that they want to prevent you from using their WiFi/space for eight hours and only paying for 1 cup of coffee. But if I want to work for an hour and spend 12 euros on coffee and cake, charging an hour's price for laptop use is ridiculous.

Apple pie is apple pie with raisin cream in it. I think it's a wrong choice. But the coffee was good as well as the service

Empty cafe is the result of new “study/work” policy. I used to love this place, I would come for 3-4 hours, got a few drinks, some food, and would do my things. Why am I imposed to pay extra although I spend as much time as another person who don’t use laptop? I would never pay extra 8-10 euros just to stay there on the top of paying for drinks and food. Delusional managers, please, wake up.

Love this place Legit one of the first cafés in the Netherlands that I have visited but the service and the drink was par excellence I came in with a dead phone was super worried that I may not get home and was not sure if the Dutch kindness would extend to letting me use their chargers and the two girls (Nikki en Marijn)at the counter were super nice and did not bat an eyelid but fetched a charger for me

Ridiculous that you have to pay 1.80 euros per person and per hour to have the privilege to study here. On top of coffee and drinks, it’s not student friendly and puts you off from coming back. Not a smart policy.

"DE office" in a student city? Where you pay €1.80/hr to study? This will just drive away the majority of your customers.

Used to be my go-to until this new policy. Love the coffee, staff and the environment but pay to work policy is incredibly frustrating, as there are no available cafes to work in after work hours. I get that some people occupy a table for a lots of hours which can be difficult to manage, but there is a studying space already in the cafe that regular customers won’t sit at- so why charge those want to work or study on top?

Nice place to sit. Always lovely people. A bit more pricey, but the best coffee in town. And no extra charge for decaf, which tastes good. The iced coffee is great!! Nice and creamy and well mixed with ice cubes. Could use a little more coffee next time, quite weak. With coffee popping pearls and caramel in it is also delicious. The crème anglaise topping is also very tasty! It's a shame that they don't have any cookies other than macaroons...

Until this week, I would have given a 5* review. However, they just instituted a dumb new policy, called DE Office. Basically, if you want to come to work or study, you pay an extra €1,80/hr for the privilege. Each hour you get a stamp, after 8hr or 10hr (haven't confirmed which) you get a free coffee (so for €14+ spend). I understand that some bad customers ruin it for everyone, ordering only a single coffee or tea then sitting there 5hr taking up 4 seats. But this also penalises legitimate customers, for example if I come to work for 5 hours I'm probably ordering 3 coffees, some cake, and maybe a toastie too, so probably spending around €30+. Having to pay another €10 on top for use of the chair because I'm working is kind of an insult. If you wanted to sit and chat with a friend for 5hr, they won't be charging you this. It's a shame, because the girls who work here are mostly lovely (I feel sorry for them having to explain this new policy to disgruntled customers), the coffee is of a good quality, the carrot cake, mustard soup and toasties are tasty, and importantly for me, it's the only café open until 10pm (I like to work in the evenings). I guess it's back to the library for me, and it feels like a lose-lose situation for all involved. It wouldn't be so bad if it was implemented differently, e.g. every euro spent on a time card could be used towards the value of food or drink; this could still be effective because if someone is just coming to work here for the atmosphere rather than the coffee, then they're either going to pay for the time or go elsewhere (and the cost price of serving coffee is not that high anyway), while people like myself who also buy products could then convert the time cost to additional products, even if that's a bit of a hassle. My bet is that this policy will kill off most of their afternoon and evening business that came from people like me, and that they'll just be busy at late morning and lunchtimes now with standard lunchtime business. Oh well...

I came here to get a cake and to my horror the lady behind the counter grabbed the cheesecake with her BARE hands... there was not a spatula or anything to be seen anywhere. And that's after she took my cash. Otherwise a nice tent, very nice building. Tasty food but pricey.

I regularly study there. Nice place for that, because the environment is nice! The coffee also remains and the choice is great! What strikes me a lot now is that empty tables remain full. Water jugs cannot be refilled and the toilet is not maintained very well. The recipe for French toast is also different each time... sometimes it has butter, other times it doesn't...

I ordered a cheese sandwich..... 8.95 further and got 2 rolls with cheese mashed in between which was done in the oven. Very bad. I could see it being prepared. I don't feed my dogs like that yet. Unmotivated lady, and bad bread. Not even worth a euro. Unhygienic and not according to HACCP and without love. Never again

Cafe and cakes are great with a reasonable price range for students . Good place to do tasks and reads . Food wasn't my taste though .

Prices high as we are used to from THE café, but you also get an attractive tent in the center in return. I always find ordering with a QR code very easy and it works well. The apple pie did not taste like apple pie, but more like pudding pie. Was there a lot of baking cream? incorporated. I thought it was a shame.

It's a pity that, despite the fact that there are only a few people in the café, you have to order your food/drinks yourself via your phone or via a device (a la McDonalds). That makes it very impersonal

Leuke en mooie tent. Maar zorg asjeblieft dat er een leidinggevende op de vloer komt! Grote chaos!! Totaal niet druk maar de meiden kunnen het niet aan. Overal vieze vaat en mega lang wachten op een kop heet water en een frisje…

Beetje afstandelijk en soms wat onervaren medewerkers, maar fijn plekje om rustig de heerlijke ontbijtplank te nuttigen.

Lekker tot rust komen bij Douwe Egberts na een lange dag. Altijd goede kwaliteit koffie en een gezellige sfeer. Daarom zijn we trotse en al jaren vaste bezoekers, bij alle DE cafés. 🩷
