Douwe Egberts Café in Bijlmer Centrum (D,F,H)

Beautiful place, delicious drinks, but such pathetic service. You order with the QR code, then they come and tell you that what you ordered is sold out and that you have to come to the cashier to make changes. On top of that, they bring the drinks practically running, they flop them somewhere on a corner of the table and you just have to divide it up yourself. You order a beautiful stroopwafel latte, it comes in a disposable paper cup and they don't even give you a spoon. Shame, there is so much more potential in this place!

Ordered a sandwich from the menu with multiple ingredients listed on it. When I got the sandwich, about half of those ingredients were missing, even though I paid the full price. I went back with the sandwich and i was told those ingredients were extra costs. I looked at the menu again and they obviously weren’t, so I went back to show them. Then she told me that those ingredients aren’t even available anymore and that it wasn’t their problem. Not offering any solution at all. When I went back again, she told me it was the fault of the office because they changed the sandwich half a year ago but never changed the menu. I’m honestly just astonished by how rude she was and the complete lack of customer service. This was clearly their mistake which ofcourse I understand can happen, but somehow I was made to feel like it was my problem. Food was fine, but totally overpriced.

I have been to DE a few times now and usually sit on the terrace. Today, I sat inside for the first time. My children needed to use the restroom, and to my surprise, there was no soap available. I find that truly unacceptable, especially in a hospitality establishment where food and drinks are served. I hope the staff use a different restroom, because otherwise, it means they won't be able to wash their hands with soap either. Extremely unhygienic. Unfortunately, this is the last time at DE for me.

Awesome place! Had a delicious meal and it was nice and quiet. We really liked the music too. 5 stars from us.

Being told that your order was delayed because one of the waitresses ran across town to fetch banana slices that are meant to go with your pancakes shows a level of kindness, consideration and hospitality that I rarely see these days.

While the location is fantastic, the service falls short. The establishment is entirely self-service, requiring guests to carry food and drinks and clean their own tables.

I needed to charge my phone the cashier was so helpful to charge my food after that I ordered drink , friendly staff and also they are not that expensive in price

I wouldn't want to give a star, but then I can't post my review. Older people are not appreciated here and are turned away by the police; it is ridiculous. I have a grandma, and if I heard that this happened to her, I would really make a fuss!

They had no honey for my ginger tea !!! The guy in front must have been new but he was clueless.we waited a long time in the line and they sold me their boeren omlett advertised with bacon only to find out there was no bacon and served me the order without informing me.i had to go back to ask and eventually got some ham instead.we all know ham is not bacon.help them make a change

I was a regular customer. Same order every week. Today I reached the point that it will be my last visit. 2 times wrong coffie, katchup instead of proper toast sos, long wait. Going to cheek my order 4 time. Couldn't be worse.

What a disgrace, totally understaffed. Had to wait 20 minutes for a mega overpriced ice coffee to go, and on top of that, they forgot the syrup.

The place is clean, but the staff is quite mediocre. The lady seemed very reluctant to explain what a latte or flat white was and what the different sizes were. She also got annoyed very quickly when I asked that. I assume explaining the menu and helping customers is part of the job, so the attitude was quite disappointing. Not the first time with that experience here but the place looks clean and helps to work a bit.

Just received really bad service from a woman. I asked for an iced coffee, I got a hot coffee, then she poured it into a cup with a few ice cubes. I asked for my money back, didn't get the full amount back, and also got irritated when I said something about it.

I love the atmosphere and motivation to study with young people.

I was a regular here for a year despite the median-quality expensive coffee because of their long opening hours (until 22h). However, now I have no reason to go because they changed their schedule to close at 18h (although they said it was going to be a temporary change 2 months ago). I am truly disappointed because this was the only place I could study and work for extended hours. Additionally, the last four times I went I noticed mice running around the place.

If you want to wait a long time. And pay a lot of money, this is the place for you! Expensive coffee. And super slow service. You can see they don't know what to do.

Normally you get good service here, but I wouldn't sit down here and order via the QR code; just order at the bar and stand in line. I ordered a simple coffee and have been waiting for over an hour. I see customers walking in being served first and pushed ahead in the order line, while I have been waiting for an hour. When I go to the bar to complain, I get the answer that it is the policy to serve incoming customers first, before customers who have already ordered. Only after filing a complaint with the wait staff am I finally helped. I personally find it a bit inappropriate; go through the list and help customers at the bar in between if possible.

A nice place where I already come back often; it is a cozy place to catch up with friends, but you can also study well here. The staff is nice and polite.

Delicious coffee and very helpful service the café is spacious with great decor. We ordered a stroopwafel latte and a tropical smoothie which was excellent and we will definitely be back.

Super disappointing. I am a regular customer here, but today everything was just utter nonsense. I ordered two decaf iced lattes that looked more like a glass of cold milk than coffee. When I asked if an extra shot of espresso could be added, they really did their utmost to avoid arranging it. No effort whatsoever to be helpful or offer a solution. In the end, I just walked away. Extremely customer-unfriendly. After this experience, I will not be coming back here.

Douwe Egberts Café in a unique location: the old ING building in the Bijlmer. Beautiful architecture and atmospheric decor. Interesting yoghurt bowl and skilled staff.

The service was good. But it seemed like everything was spoiled. The banana was black, the tea arrived like this, and the cookie was inedible… The cookie was chewy and not tasty. The staff were customer-friendly, but the quality of the food was poor. One employee even petted a dog and then continued with the food.. As someone with germophobia, I don't think this is normal.

The only appeal of this place is that it closed later than all other cafés at 22h. Now that this is not the case, there is no reason to choose it over some other better options around the neighborhood.

I just went to this cafe this morning to have breakfast. I ordered a strawberry smoothie and a ham and cheese sandwich. I got a matcha instead(i’m not sure how you get from strawberry smoothie to matcha, but it seems that the employee didn’t understand me). I drunk a bit of the matcha and just left it there. I went to the girl to let her know, without with any intention of trying to get another drink as I already drunk from the iced matcha, but her attitude was terrible. I was expecting an apology since I got something COMPLETELY different from what I ordered, but she just brushed me off. Rude and incompetent? Train your employees better. Edit: they do not give you receipts so I couldn’t check before getting the order

Nice café, but most of the baristas are grumpy and antisocial, openly bickering with each other and not customer-friendly. I come here regularly and my order is sometimes forgotten, and no apologies are offered. Especially the girl with ear piercings and a brunette ponytail and the foreign girl with an Eastern European accent are completely unfriendly.

The food is really abnormally bad. Even the cookies are chewy. It's a shame, because the atmosphere and service are fine.

Nice place with incredibly friendly staff ❤️. I come here regularly for the delicious matcha 🫖. It's a shame that they've recently started closing a bit earlier, because it really is a nice place to relax for a while. Perhaps this has to do with the nuisance that occurs more frequently in the evening hours, such as loitering teenagers or people sitting around for a long time without ordering anything. That would be a pity, because this café is a really nice addition to the neighborhood and deserves all the support. ❤️ I think having a permanent security guard on the premises would be a good solution, because then it might be able to stay open longer ❤️

It's a shame you changed the closing time to 6:00 PM. I always liked being able to sit and work there in the evening; now I've lost that opportunity..

The waitress spilled an iced coffee and my bag all over me. It happens, but it's really a shame that no compensation was offered. She grabbed a few tissues and quickly ran back inside… The toasted sandwich also didn't have melted cheese, just slices, which was a bit of a pity too. Otherwise, it's a very nice spot and the iced coffee was really tasty 😉

Nice place in the center of Bijlmer. Yuppie smartworking esthetic without sufficient electricity outlets. Cake cheaper than coffee? Drinks in general are way to expensive. Apple pie is decent Cheesecakes are excellent, as well as the other more cream based cakes, plus not expensive. Free aromatized water you can get is a nice touch. Its self-service; you go to the counter, order and retreive your order right there, which has as its downside that a cue developes easily. Music a bit too mainstream/hiphop; not the soothing lounge/jazz you'd expect from such an establishment. Great lighting In the night there are mice walking around on the floor. Unfortunately, it not only attracts students or people going for a coffee, but also young teenagers loitering around who walk in and out of the door, creating chaos in the lobby and the entrance. The staff is hesitant in dealing with them as often security is absent. It also has a share of vagrants and weirdos it attracts, as it is the only cafe in the immediate area which is open until 10 at night. They sit there, order nothing or barely nothing, not always a pleasant sight, but not aggressive or causing problems, although sometimes playing music out of phone at high volume. Too often the front door is left open creating a cold draft. Big downside: no places in immediate vicinity where to park bikes and to secure your bikes to, which causes stress, as outside of the bar allot of youth loiter around and the fact that the area has been known to be one where bikes get stolen frequently. Upside: supermarket in in front of cafe Plenty of light is nice, plus the architecture is interesting to look at. High ceilings with nice hanging lights.

The personnel were very unfriendly, impatient, and clearly stressed. There was no proper greeting, they made little effort to answer questions about the food, and we almost felt yelled at to leave. Overall, the service was very unwelcoming and unpleasant.

It is a nice café where you can work comfortably, but also just enjoy a pastry and a coffee. A downside is that the tables are not cleared after someone leaves. As a result, it looks messy. I would definitely recommend hiring more staff.

I sat in the same cafe in Zwolle, but it was veeeery better than Amsterdam. Here the fish and coffee wasn't good. I don't want to come back.

5 euros for a cup of DE, dirt cheap of course. I don't understand why it's swarming with people bringing their own food and drinks.

Vermin! The atmosphere was okay the day before yesterday. Nice and quiet for me, but a big, fat rat walked past the table. This is unacceptable, especially where your coffee is prepared..... The prices are also higher than average and the coffee wasn't even good. There are plenty of other places without rats. I won't be coming here again.

Unobtrusively situated in the former ING building on Amsterdamse Poort. Judging by the facade, you wouldn't expect such a large, cozy cafe to be hidden behind it.

Great place to grab a quick bite or one of the many delicious hot or cold drinks. Can also be a nice workspace.

Nice place with friendly staff. It is a shame, though, that there are few power outlets. Additionally, I recently saw a mouse there, which didn't exactly give a hygienic impression. That is why I unfortunately have to give 2 stars. And for the time being, I'll stick to ordering tea with my drink.

Very nice and spacious cafe with a kid’s corner which is so rare in Amsterdam, service was kind and quick so overall great experience. I just wish that they would keep the kid’s corner in a better state, eventhough, we went in the morning it was quite dirty and messy (maybe cleaners didn’t clean it after yesterday’s shift). Last point, the toilet is quite spacious there’s plenty of place for a changing table so if you want to attract families I think it would be a great addition.

Excellent place with tasty food and desserts. Comfy sofas and the vibe in general inspires you to have a nice chat with your friends. The service needs improvement. I can’t say that they don’t care but they are really slow.. 15min for a coffee and I keep asking for it.. either they need training or replacement for people who actually care about their job.

The space is very beautiful and cozy, but service is very slow, even when we order online to pick it up. I have arrived several times to pick up the order and they haven’t started yet to prepare it. They play a nice soundtrack Unfortunately, lately , I don’t feel secure visiting the place as a woman…. There are some weird men walking in circle around the place staring and observing people, they do not order anything, they just pretend they ordered, by taking plates and cups other people used and moving to where they are sitting. I really don’t understand why they removed security staff off the place

Wide selection of hot and cold beverages. Refreshing lemonades, hot and sweet specialties coffee and tea. The cafe place is big with tons of seats and tables available to work or even to study

Nice cafe, nice interior. Friendly staff. But the location (Amsterdam Square) is awful, and I find everything way too expensive, but then again, we'll just blame inflation or the excessively high rents for the space. They should give businesses and a bit of quality money so the shopping center could go from awful/stay away!!! to at least mediocre.

Love the atmosphere here! Also love that they changed their hours recently as it’s clearly becoming an Internet cafe where people come and do work for hours, always nice to have a space open late for students/remote work. I’ve noticed a lot of new staff the past few months, probably to meet the increased demand, so good luck to them because it’s not easy being new and delivering quality service to lots of people 💛

Extremely unprofessional attitude from a staff member. I ordered a coffee to go. The cashier quoted a price of €4.95, but charged me €5.45. I checked with another staff member, and it turned out to be a communication error. That can happen, and it's no problem. After that, I patiently waited for my coffee. There was a coffee to go on a tray, but I hadn't been told my coffee was ready. Incidentally, I was waiting directly at the coffee machine and the serving area the entire time. After almost eight minutes, a staff member said a medium cappuccino was ready. I pointed out that it had already been there for over eight minutes. The staff member immediately became defensive and said (in English): "I had already said it was ready." I pointed out that it didn't make sense for me to wait there if that had actually been said. I explained that the coffee had been sitting for at least eight minutes and had gone cold, and asked for a new one. The employee reacted with frustration and told me to wait. She eventually brought the new order herself, but made another mistake by saying it was a medium cappuccino to go. It was, however, a medium cappuccino with oats. The overall attitude was already somewhat irritated upon arrival. Please pay attention to the demeanor and professionalism of your staff. This experience will definitely prevent me from returning anytime soon and will likely opt for the restaurant across the street.

I've never had such a bad experience and such terrible staff. I asked for an order and received a different one. This is truly terrible service.

It's a beautiful shop, but unfortunately poorly maintained. Behind the counter, it's a mess. The staff is also very slow and practically non-communicative. I understand when it's busy, but just say, "Sorry for the wait, how can I help you?" or "I'm on my way." There's also no communication when the coffee is ready, and you have to walk around and get it yourself while it's getting cold. It's a shame, because the shop has potential and it's a beautiful setting.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lovely Douwe Egberts café in a great location. The coffee was delicious and of good quality. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. A nice place to sit quietly or catch up with a good cup of coffee. Definitely recommended!

You RUINED your beautiful place (the most amazing place to study and work) with your “no laptop” policy, now there is no space to work when it’s crowded, you are losing a lot of customers this way… seriously, I understand a few tables, but now what 80% of the space is laptop free… stupid…

The food was nice and I used to work here very nicely, don’t get me wrong there’s places where u can work/study and the atmosphere is very nice and calm. However, most of the places are now reserved for family which to me is very weird as their target is people who want to work/study. (And you’re not even allowed to open a book or have it on your table on any of the round tables with couches). Also I’ve been here like 5 times and 2/ 3 out of the 5 times they either forgot to bring my order or it just took such a long time. For example today I ordered a chocolate cake with my friend and we went to the counter after 15 minutes, turns out they forgot our order.

A classic example of a coffeeshop with beautiful design, but food and service not up to that standard. Great for studying with your laptop. But you sit at a dirty table, dirty dishes dont get cleared for over 20 minutes on the tables, and the coffee is horrible. Much better choices of barista-made coffee nearby, this one tastes bitter and very low quality. Needs more vegan options!

This is located on a square near Bijlmer Arena station and has been designed to be as attractive as possible by the municipality. In the coffee shop in question, we were able to appreciate how the Netherlands has acquired a new face.

The matcha was very tasty and there is a nice atmosphere and good service, so I give it 5 ⭐️

A cafeteria-style café. The food is overpriced and more bad than good. You can order food via your mobile phone and it's brought to your table. Two out of four items were wrong. No cutlery, no napkins.

Could be a more welcoming place if the staff were a bit more customer-friendly. There were five of them behind the counter, but the restrooms were dirty and messy. The coffee wasn't hot.

The building itself is lovely, with a wonderful atmosphere that speaks for itself. Unfortunately, the recent change of having a bouncer at the door—asking what you’re here for and suggesting you need to buy something—detracts from the experience. In my case, this was unnecessary and left me feeling less welcome, which is a shame given the charm of the place.

Beautiful, spacious, and bright location. Ideal for studying or a quick break from shopping. The staff are friendly, and the restaurant looked neat and clean.

Super long service. They kept forgetting our order. They said cold drinks took longer to make but there was only one guy responsible for making cold drinks and several others were making hot ones. Many customers before us had their drinks ready while we had to wait for a long time. Not to mention the drink taste was way below expectation.

A lovely shop located next to the Zandkasteel in the Bijlmer Arena. The lungo coffee was delicious and wonderfully flavorful. Unfortunately, the shop had trays everywhere with empty plates and cups, which was really not clean. There were only two restrooms for men and women combined, one of which was out of service and the other in use for extended periods. We ended up going elsewhere. It's a shame, such a lovely, spacious shop.

Rude service. Coffee and atmosphere were OK.

I used to go there all the time, both for coffee and as a workplace. We would sit and while working, we would order things once in a while. But now, they have hired a bouncer that walks around and watches people and asks them to order something ‘in the next five minutes’. I understand that they wanted to change the concept of their cafe from workplace/cafe to just cafe, but they could have achieved this by a notice on the wall. I don’t like being watched like this. I will not go there any more.

I regularly work at DE. It's not the place for the food; other DE restaurants offer much better menus, and the service is completely neutral. In my opinion, the tables stay dirty for too long. But the staff is certainly friendly. I assume they're short-staffed. But it's a great place to work/study, so I'll always come back.

What a wonderful place, modern and especially welcoming for young people. I saw what the younger generation is doing there; the screen is the number one thing in their lives. Ninety percent were staring at it. It's a shame, I also understand that coffee, etc., is quite expensive there.

This used to be the only place in the area where one could stay and work late while enjoying a nice cup of coffee. Now it closes early, which is really sad.

I’ve been coming here almost weekly ever since they opened a few years back. Though they’ve never been particularly cheap, the portion sizes were good and the food and drinks were always nice. However, since a couple weeks I’ve noticed portions getting significantly smaller in both the food and the drinks, while prices stayed the same and service worsened. The staff is always friendly but clearly overwhelmed. The QR code to order rearly works and waiting times are getting longer. I’d given it 5/5 before, but sadly the quality is just not there anymore.

I've been here regularly, and strangely enough, it's gone downhill. It used to be a great place, but I don't understand what's happened. The QR codes for ordering no longer work; you can open them but you can't order (they haven't for at least five weeks), and the places to order in the restaurant don't work either. The staff tries their best but seems constantly overwhelmed. You have to wait in long lines to order anything, and there are constant, sudden changes to the opening hours. Get it together, please. This is truly disappointing.

It's great place as meetup point, spend time with friends and colleagues, but; the quality of service is so bad, not even deserve 1 star, working so messy without any plans, so unprofessional! They should get training first before get to the job.

The building and atmosphere are great. The staff looks not so interested. Also the coffee was not as on the menu, and was delicered without saucer and cooking. This is amsterdam. Or is this an Airlines companee? I had a nice time though and it is clearly a place where many people come for work and study.

1 employee who has to do everything, so a very long wait for a simple latte

The bar staff was incredibly slow. We wanted to sit outside, so we ordered at the bar ourselves. At first, it wasn't clear where the line was going. Then, with only three people, we waited for ages. The hot chocolate was in a cup with sugar residue on the handle. Otherwise, it's a nice place to sit, and the space is open and inviting.

And your service is slow and lazy. ————————- They are always missing something. Every time I order some drink for takeout, they say “ no large cups “ “no cups for iced drinks“ “no soy milk “ etc etc I never get a complete drink what I wanted. The manager should educate them and check the stock properly. I recommend to go to a 30ml cafe where next to this cafe. A bit pricey but they are much better than here.

A typical situation in the Netherlands: no cleaners and dirty toilets, with a sticky and filthy floor in the cafe area. P.S. These restrooms are located inside your cafe, deep in the back of the cafe area. That makes the situation even stranger—your cafe is quite spacious, yet for some reason you haven’t taken care to provide a clean and comfortable restroom for your customers. The one that does exist inside somehow isn’t considered yours, and you’ve completely disclaimed responsibility for its maintenance, even though it’s your customers who are using it.
