Good food but not special. Smooth friendly service Finally a dry glass for my special beer.!! Unfortunately most people don't get that. Luckily here they do. Keeping the toilet is a must! The chairs are not my thing in terms of sitting, maybe better inside.

Jeroen our favorite in Assen for years 🥰 In the summer months during the motorcycle season we eat here very often. Always tastes great and the atmosphere is good. Over the years the business has also improved 👍🏻👍🏻 Always fun here.

Last Saturday 03-05 the four of us had a delicious meal at J and J in Assen, a delicious starter, a deliciously tender steak as a main course and also dessert with coffee/cappuccino. My wife's almost empty phone was also charged for the app to measure sugar levels. Would love to go out for dinner at J and J again. Kind regards, William

We had dinner at J&J with five people on March 19, 2025, it was a nice evening until I got sick when I got home. A hellish night followed with severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. I ate chicken satay with prawn crackers, atjar, spring roll and homemade satay sauce with crispy onions. The next day I informed J&J but haven't heard anything yet. I'm still recovering from food poisoning and can tell you no more chicken for me for a while. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to give a negative review for J&J.

This is a real cafe with good food and very relaxed service, not pushy with drinks, we had a wonderful evening. Worth repeating.

Had dinner here with friends yesterday and was served perfectly by owner Jeroen Knoop. Our starters, main courses and desserts were delicious! In addition, the price-quality ratio is also very good. In short, definitely worth 5 stars!

J and J is an eatery with an above-average menu. There is a very wide choice that is more reminiscent of a restaurant than a cafe. Choice of meat, fish, but also vegetarian. I've been there 2 times in the last 2 weeks. With my wife to try it first and 2 weeks later with my nephews and niece. One of my nephews is an accomplished chef himself and comes from the Kas Spijkers Academy. And although he, like me, was a bit surprised by the heavy berries accompanying the meat dishes, we were both really pleased with the dishes. The steak is prepared exactly as you ask for it. I also thought the spare ribs were very good as well as the pork tenderloin. It remains strange that you never know in advance whether the prawns have already been peeled or not, so if you think it is important that this has already happened, please ask. The first time I ordered them with the steak (surf and turf) and had asked in advance and they were peeled. Now my niece ordered the same dish and still had to peel it herself. But then she hadn't asked. We had bread with 2 dips as a starter. Unfortunately, in addition to the tapenade and herb butter, tzatziki was also served. A strange combination for us as an appetizer, and we're not crazy about it either, so we asked for some extra herb butter. That was no problem. The tapenade is barely spreadable, so it is a bit difficult to combine with the bread, but it is tasty. The bread, by the way, is rustic and has a lot of flavor in itself. The main courses have already been discussed, but I would like to mention my wife's Fish and Chips. Also really in newsprint. Greatly served and very tasty too. We each had a different dessert to finish. The Dame Blanche is not missing, but it is always a shame if it is not real hot chocolate sauce. But that's the case almost everywhere. My Brownie surprised me, because it is usually a rather hearty meal, but in this case it looked more like a cake because of how light it was. Unexpected but very tasty. Unfortunately my ice cream was a bit icy. A bit of a shame. The other desserts were finished very quickly, so they were very popular. The service is always polite and friendly. If they don't know something, they ask. The boss himself also walks around and corrects where necessary. Finally, the range. You can park on the street. Then the price. Very well priced. We were 5 people and spent about 40 euros per person for 3 courses and drinks. Top. Absolute recommendation.

Kan niks meer bedenken, vriendelijke ontvangst, heerlijk eten, gezelligheid, niet te groot, genoeg gerechten op de menu kaart keus genoeg.

It might be an idea to install acoustic panels to dampen the sound a bit more.

Ate here with a friend. Upon arrival we were kindly received. The food was delicious. In between, there was a close eye, the timing between the before, main and after course was perfect. Highly recommended! I will definitely go there again.

We ate here with 10 people and we will definitely come again. The restaurant is not large, well-organized and you can sit comfortably. Food was served at the same time, no one had to wait for their food, and the desserts also came at the same time. Only saw 1 person in the service so it was always the same person, no stress, wonderfully quiet.

The food was good. I missed a warm cloth or lemon cloth to clean my hands with the prawns. Desert Dame Blanche. Delicious, but preferably without sprinkles. I missed the hot chocolate sauce. I got it on a plate with a teaspoon. . I think a glass or bowl is nicer.

Ate at J and J for the first time and we really enjoyed it! Pleasant and attentive service. The quality of the food was fine. Had a snack board beforehand. Very tasty and more than enough. As a main course the famous spare ribs. Wonderfully tender, the bone almost fell out. My lovely wife had the steak with prawns, which was also very good. From our table I had a view of the kitchen. Nice to see how they worked together and the concentrated look in the eyes of the chefs. We will definitely come back here!

Went there with 6 people for a pleasant evening. We all started with "goodies on the shelf" as a starter. The items included: cheese, ham, soup, bread with spread, pickles, nuts and 2 hot dishes. Looked nice. Then came the main courses: mixed grill (large and normal), angus steak and ribeye. Mixed-grill large consisted of 7! pieces of meat. Angus steak was very well cooked and very tender. No complaints about the meat. Then desserts: warm cherries, stroopwafel pieces, banana split, farmer's boys and the liqueur 43. You can eat well here at a reasonable price. Operation is good for someone who has to do it all on his own. The atmosphere could be a bit more pleasant. Due to the type of tables, it now looked more like a cafeteria than an eatery.

Today we had dinner with 4 people ɓij JenJ in the cozy Assen. After some snacks and some special beers it was time to order, everyone had something different from the beautiful dishes on the menu, even vegetarian is possible. The food looked delicious and the chef had also beautifully decorated the plates. This looks more like a star restaurant than a cafe. Reservations in advance are a plus, it is full here every day when it is open. We would love to come back here.

Asked quite late if they still had a table for us on Christmas Day. Fortunately it was not a problem, because we wanted to be home on time with our 2-year-old son. Had delicious food. Very friendly service and good entertainment for the little guy. The mother also works a lot in a restaurant, so he is already very critical. He got a nice little schnitzel with fries and applesauce and a delicious children's ice cream. Biggest plus: no paper straws! To be repeated!

Great place, amazing desserts and coffee

Last Sunday we ordered 4 meals from J and J to pick up. The food was good, but for the price you paid it was really shockingly little. The spare ribs were 3 small ribs and the large mixed grill were 4 pieces of meat. It's a shame that you pay so much for so little food you get. Not worth repeating for us

I recently ordered spare ribs from this eatery and overall the food was tasty and the staff was friendly too. The taste of the ribs was good and the fries were also tasty. Unfortunately the bowl of salad was small and there was only a very small portion of spare ribs, so I still had to go to the kitchen after dinner. For the price of 22.50 I expected more and that is why it is a one-off experience for me personally. I didn't think it was really great value for money.

Well, can there be a zen (or two) in a diamond bunny? I don't want to be a whiner and it is not a star restaurant, but in the long run I had to "preventively" cut small pieces...... But okay, other than that, I thought a diamond tenderloin on carpaccio with mushrooms, aged cheese and balsamic vinegar was a find. Very tasty. Annie was also very satisfied with her pork tenderloin (Boneparte). The wine list was not very extensive, but effective and... (at least the Cabernet...) very reasonably priced! Friendly service. Very correct. In short, you can go there for a nice evening of dining out.
