Restaurant Porto in Wijk 00 Assen centrum

Last night we had a reservation for my mother's birthday. We were quite late (20 minutes) because we weren't at the correct address at first. Porto has moved, but the old address is still prominently displayed in several places. I called while on the way, but there was no answer. At the restaurant, we were told that our table for six had been given to another group (while the largest group outside was four). There were several tables, both inside and outside, where a table could easily be made for us. But he refused. We showed him on two different phones that we'd been given the wrong address, yet he continued to deny any responsibility. To keep the story short, he became increasingly angry, even though we had every reason to be, as he shows no hospitality whatsoever. When we indicated upon leaving that we were really not impressed with his attitude, he started yelling in the restaurant at one point. We were really looking forward to this place, but after this experience, we won't recommend it to anyone.

Excellent Portuguese fish restaurant. Right in the center of Assen. The menu is simple but essential: appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Many fish dishes, and occasionally a meat dish. Very good service: the owner adds a personal touch with his tips and advice. The restaurant is quite small, with some patio tables on the ground floor and a few tables on the first floor with about 20 seats. It lasts about 2 hours.

Gister weer bij Porto gegeten, nu op de nieuwe locatie. Alberto verwelkomde ons zeer hartelijk, zoals hij dat altijd doet. We bestelden de befaamde plank met een mix van vlees, vis en inktvisringen. Doordat de tafel wat kleiner is kwam het nu op een bord. Dat zag er ook prachtig uit. Naast de sardientjes was er ook heerlijke wijting. En toen we het bord leeg hadden kwam de dorade. Wat een grote! En zo goed klaar gemaakt! Tot de volgende keer.

Very weird owner or manager I don't know his function, he was constantly yelling at his workers, making them very uncomfortable and also us. The waiters were really nice, polite and sweet. They didn't deserve the treatment they were getting. The food is okay, just the atmosphere because of this guy was bad. It's a shame..

Lukket der var ikke åbent, restauranten var flytte fra første lokation, derefter skulle vi finde den nye.. den nye var så også lukket selvom det lignede en fungerende restaurant.

We had the plank terra e mar. There are many restaurants that give you a lot of different food for a decent price. Posto stands out, because the quality and taste was just really, really good. I wish I could give the food 6 stars or more, but 5 will have to do. Service was great, we got excellent, true and honest advice regarding food and drinks. No foto's unfortunately, because I never really make fotos of food, but you can see from the other fotos what it is like. We had a great evening with lovely food.

Authentic Portuguese restaurant. The food was very good, and Mr. Alberto is very friendly. For immigrants looking for a taste of Portugal in the Netherlands, this place is perfect. The dishes are varied and the portions are large, making it a great place for a group dinner.

We became aware of Porto through Google reviews and spontaneously ate there on Good Friday. We had a large platter (the sea bream, which was brought a little later, is missing from the photo) for 2 people (€60) and despite being very hungry we didn't finish it. The wine was “soft” and went well with it. Absolutely recommended, very quaint, very nice.

Been for the 1st time. Despite the fact that 1 employee was missing from the kitchen, the Portuguese owner cooked wonderfully and the deep sea redfish was delicious, as was the white wine. I will definitely go here more often to eat fish. It is also a pleasure to see and hear how the owner treats his customers. Highly recommended. Beter kan je het niet hebben. Puur, gezellig, rommelig, lekker, authentiek! Wat wil je nog meer op vakantie. Je waant je in het buitenland. Geweldige, maar eenvoudige kaart, maar in het bijzonder om echt samen te eten en te borrelen. De eigenaar heeft Porto echt meegenomen naar Assen. Ik hoop dat het nog lang mag bestaan! De grote steden zouden er jaloers op zijn. Wij komen zeker terug!

You could think you were in Portugal... No frills or candlelight, but if you value food, this is the right place to eat. A great owner who serves you the food included. TOP 👍

The Owner refused to accept us because we had children with us. To flee Answer number 2: there were 2 empty tables, a couple who occupied a large table wanted to change tables voluntarily to let us sit but you prevented them from doing so. I didn't know that when there is a party, the children have to be quarantined and the parents have to stop living. That's really weird reasoning. In respectable restaurants, we offer children's menus and seats for babies, at home we put families outside. Next time note on the door that you refuse children.

During the 'Night of Assen' I had my first introduction to Porto restaurant. Hooray, finally a Portuguese restaurant in Assen! Reception was relaxed, the manager was friendly and he has a good sense of humor. My choice fell on the Piri Piri chicken, because if you eat Portuguese then this (in addition to sardinhas) is a real Portuguese meal. The Piri Piri was nice and spicy, which can easily be compensated with a glass of cool Superbock. Due to the crowds (Nacht van Assen!) the salad was finished, which was a drawback, but this was made up for by the great atmosphere. Until next time! Update 2024: Alberto is still a wonderful host. He is absent-minded, busy, chaotic but above all hospitable and a great guy. 🤩

Wij zijn inmiddels wel vaste klanten bij Porto. Heerlijk ongedwongen sfeer, goed eten, goed (eerlijk) geprijsd. Ook vanavond weer een mooie avond gehad en van alle gasten die ons passeerden gehoord dat ze 'zeker terugkomen!'. Je moet geen haast hebben. Want bij Porto geniet je met een hoofdletter G. Bedankt weer voor een fijne avond!

Wat een fijne plek in Assen. Met de hele familie op pad en dan landen in de ongedwongen portugese sfeer bij Porto. Lekker en goed eten voor een supereerlijke prijs. Gastheerschap heeft hier een geheel eigen vorm: een thuiskomen en met aandacht om de mooie geneugten van portugal te bespreken.

What a treat it is to be able to eat here. Here you really feel like a guest and not just a customer. As soon as we entered we were received as warmly as if we had been coming here for years. And then the food, what deliciousness! Fish, meat, all super fresh and beautifully presented. Because everything is so fresh, it can sometimes happen that 'something' is not there. But in that case, a wonderful alternative is offered. Add a delicious Portuguese wine and your evening is complete. Thank you Alberto and staff!! Too bad that 6 stars is not possible.

Had dinner with 4 people tonight. We wanted some appetizers, but the sausage was not delivered. We chose the samosas instead, so the host asked what we wanted as a main course: terra e mer for 2x 2 people. The host then said: then don't have a starter, but I will also add some samosas to your main course. No sooner said than done. The gentlemen drank Portuguese beer, the ladies a super Portuguese Shiraz red wine. Long story short: we had a fantastic meal. The board had plenty of choice between meat and fish and everything was great, beautiful sea bream, delicious beef in garlic, and top fries with I think homemade mayonnaise. At the end we got extra chicken piri piri that was fantastically seasoned and then for dessert a delicious pasteis de nata with delicious port. In short: we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the host. It is highly recommended!

Had dinner here tonight. After reading the good reviews, my Brazilian wife and I were really curious. We were really ready for something different. From the start it turned out that we had really made the right choice. Very hospitably received. A simple menu with delicious dishes. The choice was therefore quickly made. The fish was cut at the table and we even got some extras. The food was delicious from start to finish. The dessert was also very tasty in combination with coffee and port. If you are looking for a good restaurant with an incredibly hospitable owner who also makes it extremely affordable, look no further. We will definitely come back here. Obrigado!

For us it felt like we were on holiday, partly because of the Portuguese atmosphere, the friendly owner and, very importantly, the extremely tasty food and delicious wine. If anyone is in Assen then it is mandatory to visit this inconspicuous restaurant and enjoy fish. We were a group of 6 people and the food was absolutely top quality, everything was freshly prepared. The boss is very friendly and also has good, very tasty wines and is always happy when football takes us in that direction again. Absolute insider tip!!!

We really had a wonderful evening. Relaxed atmosphere, good food, tasty wines and excellent Port. The memories of Portugal and Porto in particular immediately came back. We chatted some more with Alberto about Miño and bacalhau. And about our friend in Porto. After this evening I'm just going to visit him in June!

We arrive at this place after a couple of restaurants which, having not booked, tell us they have no place... after all it is Valentine's Day evening. The owner welcomed us with great kindness, telling us that, not having booked, he could "only" offer us a baked sea bream. We also accept because the scent we smell from the kitchen is very inviting. The decision to stop despite the limited menu was rewarded by a fish dish cooked in the oven with great skill and great love for the raw material in question: fish. The owner really makes you feel at home. Highly recommended!!!

Had a fantastic evening with O Senhor Alberto! When you look up the word host in the Dikke van Dale, you will find his photo. To be honest, the authenticity of a cozinha Portuguesa leaves something to be desired in some respects. Doesn't change the fact that it was tasty. But the hospitality makes up for a lot! I felt very much at home in the nice Portuguese atmosphere. Ate a próxima vez!😊

The food and especially the service were excellent!!! We would come back at any time!!!! We were a group of six adults and six children and yet it was no problem for this small, special restaurant to serve us. The children also felt very comfortable.

Alberto's approach and working method took some getting used to at first. Afterwards we felt at home and appreciated his enthusiastic approach. The food was delicious. And if my wife is happy with the food, which doesn't happen very often when we go out to eat, then it is really special. I also found the prices reasonable.

Very pleasantly surprised in this restaurant. We were at a campsite in Drenthe and in Drenthe you can eat pancakes or fries with bad hamburgers in the countryside. Had to drive half an hour to get here but it was absolutely worth it. 12 euros for a good bottle of wine, a super friendly host and all fresh fish perfectly cooked. It's been a long time since I sat in such a nice tent!!

A real Portuguese restaurant. Simple, but DELICIOUS food! When we stepped inside, as Portugal connoisseurs, we immediately felt at home. Also because we speak Portuguese and had a nice chat with owner Alberto. We have noticed that he is also a really good (chef) chef. We first ordered a plank with cheese, ham, worts and olives. Delicious! Then a Robalo and a Dourade with a salad. You really feel like you are in Portugal again. TOP food and recommended!
