Positive Google reviews lured us to this place, to our despair. The staff is friendly, indeed, but I’m sorry, the food is just bad. We ordered two starters, two main courses and a dessert, all the sauces tasted extremely artificial, the food was edible, but nothing more. Two hungry souls were disappointed.

Eetcafé de Avonden is a place steeped in football history, with a pleasant atmosphere that suits both Betondorp and Amsterdam (and its people) as a whole. I've had drinks and meals there several times with others. I use the café as a base for a football tour for private groups, which takes me through Betondorp and, of course, also across Middenweg, where Johan Cruyff used to play football. I've added a few photos of myself, taken around this location over the past few years. You can see the Johan Cruyff Bridge in Park de Meer in the picture. This bridge is located directly across from the football café de Avonden. There's also a photo I took at the unveiling of the Johan Cruyff mural, opposite the café, in 2017. (If you zoom in, you can see the late Wim Suurbier standing there.)

The evenings is a great Amsterdam eatery. You can go there for a beer, a bite and a chat. The owners are true Amsterdammers with the humor that goes with it. Oh yeah and they have a chessboard if you don't want attention 😉

The service was really disappointing. We couldn't even sit quietly — we were constantly being interrupted to ask if we were done yet, even though the food was still on the table. One of the employees spoke to customers as if he were talking to friends, which came across as very unprofessional. This was the first and also the last time we have been here.

What a dirty cafe. Toilet is overflowing. Food was also rubbish. Beer is below zero degrees. Overall rubbish. The owners are busy with the women, the wine comes from the ditch. As Bianca Siebald has been saying for years.

This really is such a beautiful real Amsterdam neighborhood café/restaurant with really good food. The atmosphere is slightly noisy, but that's how it should be. You can also enjoy watching sports there. The Spareribs were great, as was the satay. Only a little bit of satay sauce and too little will (mayonnaise). Therefore no maximum eating score. They will definitely arrange that. Everything else is great. Super friendly family that runs the place. My daughter lives around the corner, and I will definitely come back to get more sauces...

Because we wanted to be at the ice hockey match on time, we received full cooperation regarding the food (for 8 adults and 7 children). We had a good meal and had a nice chat with the owner. We arrived at the Jaap Eden Ice Rink on time!

A café for real Amsterdammers. I have been coming here for years and feel at home here. What sweet, warm people with a heart for the business. The two brothers run the shop and their son is always busy too. Everyone can enjoy good food and drinks, but the great atmosphere here cannot be beat. Keep it up great guys. Hopefully Ajax will play better soon, you will also benefit from that🤣

Truly 100% an old Amsterdam eatery. Kind of a brown pub. The food is matching, really well prepared and tasty. And the genuine Amsterdam service (all family) makes it complete.

Two men are sitting drinking a beer, and suddenly a sheepdog comes in, the sheepdog jumps on a stool and says to the bartender, give me a bacon with lots of ice, that one man says, you can easily join the circus, to the sheepdog, the sheepdog says, what do you mean? do they need an electrician then 😅

Here you will really find that Amsterdam conviviality and humor for an affordable price and the best quality of food. Another plus is that smoking is not allowed on the terrace! In short, actually worth 6 stars 🌟

If you have eaten at the Evenings, your day is good. Large menu with daily specials. Everything was well taken care of with quick and friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere and nice music. It's easy to chat and whatever you choose from the menu, everything is equally delicious. And enjoy the summer on the terrace/conservatory with open roof and heater for when it gets a bit chilly. Nice and spacious and comfortable to sit on. Also for drinks with snacks. Very popular place to enjoy the big football matches. Everyone is there with the same goal. Gather all supporters. We always feel at home here! It is a very cozy café run by a great team! The food here is always good and it is always pleasantly busy.

Siempre nos gusta comer donde comen los lugareños y no nos decepcionó. La comida era buena, el servicio era excelente, muy buena relación calidad-precio, e incluso pudimos conocer a algunos de un equipo de fútbol local. Muy buenos jóvenes. Fue tan bueno que comimos allí dos veces. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Echt Amsterdams...super Je wordt enorm bekeken bij binnenkomst door de mannen aan de bar..grappig Eten voor schappelijke prijzen, voor tegenwoordig zelfs goedkoop Bediening doet net wat er moet gebeuren: drankje opnemen, vergeet dagmenu te noemen, serveert uit en dan zie je ze niet meer Vdvkaart eten...een 7 Vh dagmenu ...een 5.5 Geen fooi gegeven ivm bediening niks extra's en dagmenu duur en niet zo goed. Dan wordt je niet meer gedag gezegd.

Qué lugar tan encantador nos encontramos. Visitamos Amsterdam por unos días, en nuestra última noche decidimos cenar cerca del lugar donde nos alojábamos, terminamos cenando en Eetcafe De Avondon. Ojalá hubiéramos cenado aquí antes. Estaba absolutamente delicioso. La gente allí es amable y acogedor y ayudó a traducir el menú. Pedí el pollo satay y las costillas de repuesto, mi marido pidió el filete. Vino con una deliciosa salsa de carne y las papas fritas estaban súper deliciosas! Muy recomendable, vale la pena probarlo una y otra vez.

Been coming to Castell on Leidseplein for years. Due to an unfortunate event, after hearing some good things, I thought I would try the ribs there. What a surprise!! Jean Pierre / brother and son have a top place, old-fashioned cozy, FANTASTIC SOFT SPARE RIBS with the same marinade as Castell, fries for a giveaway price. The food, the atmosphere, old Amsterdam is an experience, where everyone still talks flatly and has a sense of humor.
