What fantastic service we received at De Kwikkel. We called ahead to make a reservation for our group (12 adults and 1 toddler). They told us we had an hour between the steam tram and the boat. I was advised to submit our lunch preferences a day in advance. Upon arrival, we indeed had our sandwiches in no time and were able to eat a leisurely meal before heading to the boat. A huge compliment to De Keikkel!

Last week with a group of 9+ toddlers. We arrived by boat from Enkhuizen and were supposed to take the steam train to Hoorn after a 1:15 stop. We wanted to have lunch in Medemblik and called to make a reservation. This turned out to be a good tip. When we mentioned taking the boat/steam train trip, they immediately suggested we place our orders in advance. Everything went perfectly: we were seated immediately upon arrival, our drinks were taken, and the dishes arrived shortly after they were served. The food was perfect, and the service was superb. Definitely do it!

Great place, nice and quiet during the week. Spareribs were nice and thick, well-grilled. The mixed grill was also tasty, although the spareribs were a bit lean. The schnitzel was a good piece of flat meat, not fatty, just well done. The steak was very good, medium, and nicely plated. The Irish coffee was delicious and creamy and soft. And then the eggnog ice cream—well, the picture says it all. All in all, worth the 5 stars.

After a long walk, I ordered a drink on the terrace around 4:45 PM. The girl who came to serve us clearly wasn't in the mood, was quite unfriendly in taking our order, and five minutes later, the drinks were almost on the table. At 5 PM, she left and went home. Fortunately, the colleague who took her place was much friendlier, which bumped the rating up from 1 star to 3. Tip for the first girl: it's understandable that you might not be in the mood at the end of the workday, but in the hospitality industry, you can't stop smiling until your work is done.

A pub the way a pub should be. Dining with the coziness of a pub. My mother (86) and I sat outside. So, soup and chicken satay. Both were delicious. Nothing daring or special, just good. The service was super relaxed and friendly. A wonderful place. We'll be back.

The restaurant has a great location right by the lock and close to the marina. The food was delicious and the service was efficient. Unfortunately, the wait staff wasn't particularly friendly, which spoiled the overall impression. It felt more like an assembly-line operation.

Bad cappuccino. Coffee from a vending machine with a large display of foam floating on top. No coffee color visible through the white foam. Why is it almost impossible to get regular coffee anywhere in the Dutch hospitality industry? Everywhere, they charge an extra €3 for a bad cup from a vending machine. People often simply don't care about quality food and drink. Coffee should be made with freshly roasted beans, not incredibly dark roasts (to get flavor with just a few beans) that are simply run through an espresso machine for 20-30 seconds with manually frothed milk. Why can you get that in Italy for €1.50?

2022/2023 We did it again. 1 week in Medemblik, 3 times at "de Kwikkel" Everything as usual, great food, etc., courteous service. Highly recommended. 2018/2019 Simply super! Had the Vegan Texas Burger, which consists of a meat-like patty, guacamole and grilled vegetables. It was quite juicy and tasty, but the mayonnaise that came with the fries was NOT vegan!! This is quite stupid and should be fixed! Nonetheless a good experience, I just had to ask for ketchup!

We made a reservation here for dinner for four people from 5:00-7:00 PM on the recommendation of someone we met in Enkhuizen. After shopping in Medemblik, we accidentally crashed here for a glass of wine because it was very hot. We only found out later that this was also the restaurant we had booked! How convenient. Incidentally, our reservation turned out to be indoor only. A table outside wasn't available. Quite unusual when it's 25°C. Luckily, we were next to a table outside where people were just leaving. A lovely spot, half-sunlit on a cozy terrace by the drawbridge. The Vedejo was delicious! Eight wines later, we saw a sign hanging outside because we were moving to a shady spot: two wines and a portion of six bitterballen for a nice price. If only we had known or seen that sooner! Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to book retroactively. After our wine tsunami, we went to dinner at 6:00 PM. It was fine, but nothing special. We then went to an ice cream parlor down the road for dessert because we were pretty pissed off at how poorly they treated the bitterballen. We paid over €200 for three satays and a carpaccio salad, and the rest was wine. And then they made a fuss about a portion of bitterballen. Yikes!

Fast, friendly service. Excellent menu for vacationers. Well-stocked tuna salad, but the herb butter was rather tasteless. Regular butter is better. The Ladyburger was fine. And the fries too. The salad didn't come with the burger, but that didn't bother us because we each ate half of both dishes.

We were with a group of motorcyclists and luckily we had arranged something with the owner so we could all sit on the terrace. The service was excellent and quick.

Celebrated birthday with 8 people outside with 30 degrees. Booked a week in advance but unfortunately you can't book outside. Result was that we still had a spot outside but without a parasol and half of us sat with our faces in the sun. Food was very good, friendly staff.

An Italian omelette with tomato and pesto caught my attention. The omelette looked good. The taste was flat. The idea is good, but the execution (including the baking) could be better, much better.

I regularly eat at the Kwind and enjoy the conviviality and the friendly staff every time. Then the food, you know what is included and it is prepared with care. Now we were there for the mussel evening. Delicious food and more than enough. The nice weather is coming again and we can regularly be found on the lovely terrace. Cheers to a beautiful summer.

Medemblik is a beautiful harbor town. But you haven't seen Medemblik if you haven't been here for coffee and cake, lunch or dinner. I won't tell you more, just give it a try and I'm sure you will share the experience with your friends.

On summer days, De Kwind has a beautiful terrace located on the harbor and in the winter months the restaurant inside is very cozy and atmospheric. There are a number of friendly young ladies serving and the kitchen is excellent. A little less generous with sauces is a tip, especially with Carpaccio and chicken satay. That was quite an overkill.

Have dinner with your loved one at De Kwind on Valentine's Day! Highly recommended. We have been wonderfully spoiled; glass of Prosecco upon entry, table with festive heart balloon. And yes, the rest was also pure indulgence! A delicious three-course menu that will delight you. Ons favoriete eetcafé in Medemblik. Wat een fijne plek is De kwikkel in Medemblik aan de haven! De sfeer is altijd gezellig en warm, of je nu binnen zit of op het terras. Het personeel is vriendelijk en werkt hard om het je naar de zin te maken. Sjaak is als gastheer een absolute aanwinst; hij is altijd vriendelijk en maakt graag een praatje, waardoor we ons hier altijd welkom voelen. De menukaart is uitgebreid en biedt voor zowel lunch als diner volop keuze. De saté en de heerlijke dikke frietjes zijn altijd perfect, zoals we gewend zijn. Of je nu binnen eet of het eten thuis laat bezorgen, de smaak is altijd top! Ook de biertjes op de tap worden regelmatig gewisseld zodat je steeds weer verast wordt met een nieuwe smaak om te proberen. We zijn echt blij met De Kwikkel en komen hier heel graag voor een borreltje, lunch of avondeten. Het is zonder twijfel een aanrader en we hopen er nog vele jaren te kunnen genieten!

Yesterday we took advantage of the stew offer with a group of friends. We ended with a royal dessert and all in all we had a few very enjoyable hours!

Good, delicious food, served without question ('who had the croquettes?'). Where else can you find that?
