Stressed staff when it is busy. Some are unfriendly, but fortunately there are also colleagues who helped us in a friendly manner.

Great location for a nice drink with friends on the spacious terrace. The service is always good and they have a wide selection on the menu.

Not expensive and delicious food.

Today, the Carpaccio as a starter, the Beef burger as the main course, and the Canaloni for dessert, accompanied by a delicious Cappuccino. Prompt service from a lovely waitress topped it all off. Unfortunately, I didn't take any food photos, but everything is presented very neatly. Oh yes, the promotional price for the 3-course menu in October, with a choice from the entire menu (a small surcharge here and there depending on your choice), makes it very affordable as well!

We ate here prior to attending the theater. The food and service were fine. However, we arrived at 5:30 PM, and the show started at 8:15 PM—you would think there was plenty of time. But everything took a bit longer. The main course took a long time, while we saw the same dishes being served to people who had sat down at the table much later than us. I had booked with a promotion—20%, but we received a 30% discount for the long wait. It softened the blow somewhat, but I would have preferred to be able to eat my main course in peace (it didn't arrive until 7:30 PM).

Oktober 4th, day after the city festival. I guess everyone was too hungover. We had to flag down the server to get our order in. I got fish and chips, €18. Got a small piece of fish and some kind of mayo passed off as remoulade. Wife got orechiette pasta, also €18 which was overcooked and had no seasoning except for curry powder, which was not advertised. Only 3 pieces of broccoli. It was almost inedible, she was very hungry but only ate half, left most of the pasta. She has a stomachache now. The service and atmosphere can be explained by it being the day after Oktober 3rd, but curry powder on the pasta? Inexcusable.

The food was fine, but not super amazing. Portions were very large, but that isn't necessarily a plus.

Enjoying the sunshine on the terrace, we had a tea/coffee combo with apple pie. It was tasty. However, a couple sat down at a table next to us and started smoking extensively. No sooner had one finished than the other was already lighting up. That wasn't a problem in itself, but the wind was blowing directly in our direction. They weren't bothered, but we were.

Relaxed. Friendly service. Great beer and tasty spare ribs. The waitress was really absent today, though.

I didn’t really like the Paloma or the satay, but the burger and beer were good. The atmosphere was nice too.

Exceptional food. Well-loaded nachos with chicken, very juicy fried fish with lots of potatoes, very well-done shrimp and bitterbollen typical of the area. Very nice place with views of the canal, Einstein's quotes inside the place. 100% recommended!!!

Super cozy eatery where the service is great! We had delicious chicken thigh satay with lettuce/jar and fries. And when your glass was empty, they came by quickly enough for another round.

Nice spot for lunch or dinner by the water. Views of the canals on one side and passersby on the other. Fine menu; the quality is adequate/good, but the quantity and price are outstanding and well above average. The only downside is that smoking is allowed on the terrace and there are ashtrays everywhere around you—on tables, the ground, the bases of parasols, etc.—which really detracts from the experience for non-smokers and makes the terrace less attractive.

Friendly waitress, nice outdoor seating. But you feel ripped off when you order a cola and don't get a bottle, but just a glass with four large ice cubes floating in it. You pay full price for half a glass of cola.

Broodje carpaccio was dry. Very little sauce or anything else really. Gerookte zalm club sandwich was also dry, all empty in the corners and only filled some in the middle. Was sad about our lunch. Its a nice spot to sit, it a shame that all of the table were dirty even before the lunch time started.

My favourite bar in Leiden, Netherlands, possibly the world! I first came here 29 years ago when I came to study in Leiden and my friends and I keep coming back every couple of years. The terrace outside is perfect for a summer’s day. The atmosphere is always lively. Great bar snacks, especially the biturballen and friets. Love this place!

Had a delicious meal after a boat trip through the canals of Leiden, with a few delicious specialty beers to wash it down. The atmosphere was good, the staff friendly and attentive; in short, highly recommended.

After a concert at the Hooglandse Church, we unexpectedly ended up at Einstein. We had a nice drink inside and enjoyed the well-chosen background music. Extremely cozy!

The food was mediocre; the salmon was garnished with what felt like a kilogram of overcooked risotto (less is sometimes more), another slice of salmon would have been nice. Overpriced compared to other places in Leiden, Katwijk, and Noordwijk. Here, you're paying more for the canal view than anything else.

One of our favourite places in Leiden. This is a great place if you want good service, a buzzing vibe and good value for money pub food. The menu is limited but always tasty. Nice for a drink and a bite that is not costing and arm and a leg.

We thought we were getting a delicious carpaccio sandwich. Unfortunately, it was smoked beef. We even let the chef know, but he assured us that it really was carpaccio. So, unfortunately, we won't be doing this again. The service was friendly. Nothing to complain about.

What is going on? Yesterday I ordered a goat cheese salad. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. For the 17.95 they charge for it. The menu stated: A salad of Pearl Paste with goat cheese, grilled vegetables, walnuts, and pesto dressing. What I received: 3 chopped iceberg lettuce leaves, 1 tablespoon of pearl paste, 3 cherry tomatoes, two small slices of courgette cut into pieces, and 4 small pieces of chopped cucumber. And a 6-millimeter slice of goat cheese and no walnuts. I had asked for the dressing separately; I had to go get it myself, as they had forgotten it. And half a bread roll without butter. When I found out that there were no walnuts either, I sent it back. This really does not match the price you pay for it. My friend's food, by the way, was good, sufficient, and tasty. But the salad was truly unimaginative. If I had bought 5 euros worth of ingredients at home, I could have made 3 plates, and they would have been much more generously filled than this. They took the salad off the bill and offered something else. But I would have preferred just a well-filled salad where the price-quality ratio is right and all the ingredients are present. The grilling is no longer crispy, there is a dark streak, and otherwise it is raw.

A lovely terrace right on the water, a sharing platter with a nice variety of snacks; what was fried wasn't greasy at all. It was pleasantly busy, so we had to wait a little longer to be served, but eventually everything fell nicely into place.

We had a great meal at a reasonable price, good value for money. It was pleasantly busy, almost full, but we didn't have to wait long for our food. Friendly service. We had the three-course menu, and virtually every dish was delicious. We'd definitely go again, as there were plenty of other great options on the menu.

Famous in Leiden, and the location is perfect. Lunch was reasonably affordable and quite good! Much better in the summer, of course, with outdoor seating on a huge floating terrace, but naturally busy then. Service, as often happens, depends on the person; it can be rude, but it can also be friendly.

I come here almost every week for tea. Every staff member is friendly and helpful. Haven't tried lunch or dinner yet, mainly snacks. I'll have dinner on the lovely terrace by the water soon when the weather is a bit warmer!

Lovely atmosphere unfortunately after 2 hours of waiting they brought burned salmon and rancid congealed food to the table ...when I mentioned this, the waiter tried to cause a massive scene, everyone in the place was looking at us while he shouted about how it's not his fault... I'm sure it's not mine either... Plus the toilets smell bad. overall very disappointing. Eat anywhere else

My dear parents' dinner, just like last year... It was incredibly crowded and busy, which is of course nice for the owner, but the tables are way too close together. We were crammed into a corner with barely any room to move. As a result, it felt very cramped for most of us. It was also filthy, with lots of food scraps on the floor and under our table, and the toilet was too disgusting to use... So, it was our last time. I think it's purely aimed at students/young people, and that's fine. The food was decent, especially for the price. The service was helpful and friendly 😊

They give you the old menu first, and when you want to order, they give you the new one. And no, the dishes you'd already chosen simply can't be made anymore. Oh yeah, they also conveniently omitted the capers from the smoked salmon. The pork tenderloin was tasteless, but the fried chicken was good. A special coffee was offered as compensation, though. All in all, a point down compared to last time. Perhaps a point up next time. But not this time.

A lovely café by the water with a view of Leiden City Hall. Good food and a great atmosphere. It's a shame that only seagulls and jackdaws were flying around on the terrace, so we changed seats and found a spot in front of the building. That would have been better. Reservations aren't accepted.

Cozy place, but... spareribs were boiled and then fried, resulting in tasteless and tough meat. I ordered a rare steak and received it medium to well done. Such a shame. The salmon, carpachio, and chocolate mousse were fine, but that's not so difficult to prepare, of course.

Famous bar in Leiden, usually busy, but to me there’s nothing especially unique about it. The service is quick and they clear your glasses fast, which can make you feel a bit rushed

The buffalo mozzarella salad was a disappointment, a few lettuce leaves completely covered in red pesto sauce. The mozzarella balls were tasteless. The roasted seeds were missing. This is a culinary shortcut, and the flavor is lacking, and the chef knows this.

Pub with outdoor seating on the river. The seating is cramped, and the building is a bit old and worn. The staff is young, friendly, and fast. The menu is typical but still interesting, with hearty dishes. Prices are average. The bathrooms are a bit spotty.

While I generally like this restaurant, it's annoying that you're also sitting inside surrounded by a strong smoky smell. The cause is people smoking right next to the restaurant entrance. I reported this, but I didn't get the impression she was concerned. So, it won't be resolved. For me, this is a reason not to have lunch there again. This is a shame because the number of non-smokers is many times greater than the number of smokers. In Amsterdam, near the Waag, they've now made half of their outdoor terrace non-smoking. Everyone is happy, both smokers and non-smokers. The solution is simple, but apparently not easy. A missed opportunity.

Very nice ambiance and attentive service. The food, however, could have been much better. The burger was cooked far too long (dry), and the chicken was also overcooked and rather tasteless. The appetizer and dessert were good, though. Why, on a Saturday, you could only order a standard burger from the set menu and not the usual à la carte menu remains a mystery to me.

Nice place, the only thing they need to address is the restroom. Everything could use a bit of a makeover. I've been coming here for 26 years, but nothing has ever been done about it. One restroom is a bit small, but the men's area is also a good place to go, but having to walk around in jeans isn't really an option. Otherwise, the staff is friendly, and it's a cozy cafe. The food isn't great, but it's okay.
