Delicious and just the right amount. Great price, too.

There were six of us, and four of us ordered delicious hutspot with beef patty, while the other two ladies ordered something else—I can't remember what. I had a Coca-Cola to drink because I don't need PepsiCo, and there was also a pitcher of water. Dessert was something with raspberry ice cream, but I opted for a cappuccino. Meanwhile, it was October 3rd, and it was pouring down with heavy rain. The fireworks had been canceled due to the wind, so I ended up going home.

We had lunch in the Burgerzaken. Very nice place. We order a rundercarpaccio and runderburger and they were very tasty. We did not reserve, but they found a table for us. Service was fast.

They serve a bit of standard Dutch restaurant fare, but with a more interesting and beautifully presented menu! Excellent food and very friendly staff!

Today, we felt like having a beer because the weather was really hot. We chose to sit at the back of the restaurant, surrounded by beautiful grapevines, and enjoyed our drinks there. It felt wonderful! This place is always a great restaurant to come to—calm, welcoming, and consistently enjoyable. Rohini ♥️

In an old building with lots of vintage elements, we had a bread lunch. One with cheese and one with meat. It was OK, but not special. A Turkish white bread with butter and a lot of rocket salad on top. In other places, you would get the question of whether you prefer white or whole corn. In this restaurant, you just get the white bread. Price/quality level out of balance compared to other similar brasserie style restaurants. Our table was in front of the open kitchen. When we sat down we saw a big plate of undefined baked meat on the gas pit. It didn't look quite hygienic. Toilets are clean. Soap and paper towels were available.

What a wonderful meal we had here yesterday (May 24, 2025)! The taste experience of the swordfish was great! Really delicious!! Furthermore, a very neat, cozy restaurant! The service was also good and very friendly!

We enjoyed lunch together with our family on the back terrace. Recommended.

Het broodje vooraf was erg droog. En de tapenade die erbij zat was ook niet heel lekker. Steak was goed gebakken en mals. Patat moest los bij besteld worden en was heel weinig. Service was oké, jonge meiden die het onderling heel gezellig hadden.

Such a cozy place for coffee, lunch and dinner. Just cannot go wrong on the menu to be honest.

Alle bestellingen verkeerd opgenomen ondanks dat er bijna geen klanten waren. Vervolgens eenvoudig en smakeloos broodje a 13 euro voorgeschoteld.

We entered and were kindly received. It was still very quiet and we were helped right away. We ordered the two burgers, a beef burger and a vegetarian burger. I really liked the vegetarian burger. It is not a vegetable burger, but a real meat substitute with tasty fresh vegetables that provide a nice balance. It included fries. I would have liked these to be a little saltier, but nevertheless they were very tasty. Furthermore, the restaurant is homely and comfortably furnished. It feels warm and cozy. The restaurant was clean and the toilets were also neat.

Nice restaurant with good service. Beautiful art deco/Nouveau paintings and decoration in the interior, which creates a nice, warm atmosphere!

I was at civil affairs with my family on Christmas Day. We were also assigned a table in the dark, cold and atmosphereless basement. Unfriendly staff, especially the hostess with glasses was very stressed. I also wonder whether Civil Affairs is allowed to receive guests in the basement, it smelled musty and there was insufficient ventilation. So unhealthy. It was disappointing that another group of three who came in after us were given a table 'upstairs'. Probably friends of the hostess with glasses. We won't go there again, food was cold and tasteless

Not bad, but given the prices for lunch (all sandwiches €13) and a burger even €19, you can expect more in my opinion. The soup was not very tasty and the sandwiches well filled, but not really special in terms of taste. Operation was performed perfunctorily by working students. The lunch did not rise above mediocre in any respect. That's fine if the price level doesn't match that, but for what was offered, I just thought it was too expensive. It remains surprising how expensive Dutch catering is. Recently we were able to have dinner with a family of 4 in a cosmopolitan city like Berlin (with plenty of drinks) for less than €100 in total. Obviously it was not a Michelin restaurant, but the food was excellent and the service professional. Something like that is impossible in the Netherlands.

Veel verwacht van Burgerzaken maar het was een grote teleurstelling. Service en sfeer (kelder) was erg slecht. Eten ok.

Was looking forward to having dinner at Burgerzaken again with family on Christmas Day. Until a few years ago, I often went there for lunch on Saturdays with my brother and it was always to my complete satisfaction. Delicious food and, above all, friendly staff. What a disillusionment it was this time. It started with the hurried and unfriendly reception by the hostess with glasses and a sturdy build. No warm welcome, no Merry Christmas or nice to have you there. The 'hostess' guided us to a table in the atmosphereless and cold cellar. When we indicated that we found it an unpleasant space, the only response was 'unfortunately'. It didn't get any better either. Nothing was done to improve the atmosphere, such as lighting the candles on the table. We did not see the hostess with glasses and a sturdy build until the moment of payment. We ordered game stew three times and steak twice and received steak three times. But nothing was said because then 1 dinner companion would have to wait for his food. By the way, the host who helped us was friendly. The food was ok, dessert was tasty. The children who frequently came down the stairs to the basement to play were irritating. The staff did nothing about this either. When paying, the hostess stood at the cash register with glasses and a sturdy build. When she saw that I wanted to pay, she asked a colleague to help me. I cannot escape the impression that this lady had difficulty helping me as a Dutch person of color. That also explains her unfriendly attitude from the start. What a disappointment and how embarrassing to be treated in such a customer-unfriendly manner. I thought Burgerzaken was a nice establishment with friendly staff. Unfortunately, we didn't notice any of this tonight on Christmas Day. Customer focus training for the hostess with glasses and a sturdy build would not be out of place.

Didn't make a reservation, but had a nice lunch yesterday afternoon! Friendly service with a smile, cozy & friendly atmosphere, the beef capaccio with 2 generous slices of white ciabatta and truffle mayonnaise, cheese on top, arugula & seed mix was delicious, highly recommended. The tuna salad with white ciabata was also very tasty. And that for very reasonable prices. Cheers. We will definitely come back :-)

The food was very tasty! We ate the salmon beforehand and the Bavette as a main course. Very tasty. The dishes of my table companions were also well received. Beautiful building, but I didn't find the ambiance at the back where we sat very attractive.

This restaurant was, without a doubt, the worst experience of my life. We were a group of 40 people crammed like cattle into a tiny, low-ceilinged basement that echoed unbearably. I could only hear the person directly next to me. They started by taking drink orders, which took 45 minutes to arrive because the only access to the room was via a steep, narrow staircase. Only after that did they take food orders. We arrived at 7 PM and were served at 9 PM. For €40, we got a small main dish, one drink, and an unremarkable dessert. Fries were offered as an extra, but they came at an additional cost. Due to the overwhelming noise, orders were poorly understood, and some fries were brought to the table alongside the dessert. They sat there untouched, but we were still charged for them. When you go to a restaurant, you expect to be welcomed, enjoy your time, and feel valued—not to leave feeling like a cash cow.

We were with a large group (45 people approximately), and that was a problem. €40 per person for a modest meal + 1 drink. Way too expensive. There is meat and vegetables on your plate, but if you would like some fries with it, you have to pay extra. Food wasn't bad, but not very special either. The fries were very tasty. Waited 2 hours for the food. Staff tried but had difficulty serving this group. Small room in the basement was packed and the noise was terrible. You couldn't actually hear your neighbor. Last portions of fries were served together with dessert. There was 1 menu and drinks list for a table of 10 people.

Great lunch and the coffee was also okay. I personally had the carpaccio sandwich, not cheap but a good portion. The others at the table also enjoyed lunch.

The menu is not too large, but the food and drinks were excellent and delicious. Tasty wines. The table with the loose chairs were not really comfortable to sit on for 2 hours.....unfortunately.

Omdat een dinerbon hadden gekregen en Burgerzaken deze accepteert , wij gereserveerd en op de fiets weg. Het restaurant straalde niets uit 2 tafeltjes gedekt bij de iingang met gereserveerd kaartjes erop en voor de rest was er niemand aanwezig. Het bier en wijn smaakte prima. Het eten was ver ver onder de maat een voorgerecht van zalm met drie kleine stukjes zalm en wat ondefinieerbare groenten. Het hoofdgerecht was zo slecht een bavette was een paar stukjes vlees en weer die groente en mijn vrouw had risotto die echt niet te pruimen was. Helaas een zeer slechte ervaring. De bediening was ook niet echt spontaan. Van de gereserveerde tafels werd geen gebruik gemaakt.

Restaurant met een zeer toepasselijke naam. Ligt tegen over het stadhuis. Leuke ambiance. Zeer vriendelijke bediening, koffie van goede kwaliteit, thee ruime keuze uit diverse smaken. Heerlijk gebak er bij. Appel/ noten.

Had a lovely lunch here. The ciabattas were cracking fresh, and the pastrami was really one of the better ones I've ever eaten. The brownie is also heavenly. Friendly staff.

Stopped by for lunch yesterday. Especially an easy card that could be improved a lot for me. Ordered 2 beef burgers with organic fries, the burger was okay, but the organic fries, the few crumbs you get are hard and certainly not worthy of the name organic. What particularly struck me is the maintenance of the business, you can extend it to the kitchen and toilet. Where food is sold, things must be better. Apparently there is no hygiene control in the Netherlands.

Eten was matig, vrij smakeloos, steak was niet naar wens gebakken en geserveerd met enkele stukjes groenten (had beter gemogen voor de prijs). Bediening was vriendelijk maar niet heel proactief, lang wachten om drankjes te bestellen.

A lovely restaurant, friendly knowledgeable service staff, a decent drinks menu and a welcome and warm atmosphere. We ate risotto, pork cheek and the beyond meat burger, all very delicious.

I had a lovely lunch here with a friend, the atmosphere was good. At first I didn't get a good spot, but that was quickly resolved. Got a nice spot by the window.

Spicy chicken sandwich and carpaccio were very tasty. Atmosphere was fine, but it took a while before we were helped and only after a lot of waving. Furthermore, not really clean, because the windowsill and walls are full of dust and cobwebs.

The café in the city center has free seats without reservation on Saturdays, the carrot cake tastes great, the coffee is tasty, the atmosphere is relaxed and there are beautiful decorations painted on the walls.

Heerlijke lunch gehad in dit leuke authentieke restaurant in het hart van Leiden. Bediening was erg vriendelijk.

We zaten in de kelder wat erg jammer was. Donker en geen ramen.

Mooi restaurant. Vooral de eerste ruimte is erg mooi en sfeervol met decoraties en hoge plafonds. Door de hoge plafonds is de akoestiek helaas wat minder. Eten is goed, maar wel wat prijzig. De desserts waren niet zo bijzonder, die hadden geen uitgesproken smaak.

Heerlijk geluncht, aardige bediening. Wel konden we alleen om 12 uur en niet om 1 en 2 uur reserveren. Toen we om half 2 vertrokken, was de hele zaak leeg, op een volle tafel na.

Leuke zaak in het centrum van Leiden.

Heerlijk gegeten bij burgerzaken. Goede service en echt een heerlijk belegd broodje wat goed vult. Vriendelijk personeel die niet te opdringerig zijn aan tafel.

Voor de ingang hangt al vele maanden een palm half uit zijn pot, ik heb altijd geleerd dat een ondernemer die dat niet opvalt...ook zijn keuken niet goed controleert. Ooit was dit (zelfs langere tijd) een gezellige ontmoetingsplek, ik denk ik gebruik maar eens een ander woord dan de ontelbare ´super´s´ hieronder: superrr leuk, super-tof, helemaal superrr... Wat een vervlakking toch: gelijke mensjes, gelijke woordjes, gelijke gedachten, echt een saaie boel. Er hing een heerlijke sfeer vooral omdat de eigenaar/uitbater bewust had gekozen voor een subtiele balans tussen kortdurend koffiebezoek en wat langer verblijvende ´eters´ en er lag een keur van kranten en tijdschriften ter beschikking. De prachtige imposante leestafel die er stond was van enorme meerwaarde voor de hele zaak en zelfs de binnenstad, regelmatige bezoekers troffen elkaar en de zaak was een echt ´begrip´ in Leiden. De tijden zijn veranderd. De uitbater bedacht dat je op de plaats van de leestafel net zo goed drie tafeltjes vol met ´eters´ kwijt kon. De verwachte extra inkomsten voor de uitbater ´wonnen het´ dus (zoals zo vaak) van zijn ´eerste intentie van ooit´, ze wonnen van het plezier van de startende ondernemer en zo dus ook van de drang en de wil van die uitbater om naast het maken van winst er vanuit sociaal perspectief ook toe ´te willen doen´. Nu resten er in Burgerzaken zoals in elke ´snelle formule ´eettent slechts nog mensen die uitsluitend in de tegenover hen zittende eter geïnteresseerd zijn. De zaak is volgepropt met tafeltjes en door het midden loopt een eenzaam aanbreng- en ophaalspoor, buiten zitten aan de Breestraat vlak voor de zaak is zeer winderig, lawaaierig en waarschijnlijk nauwelijks vol te houden. Er staan een paar tafeltjes die vrijwel nooit bezet zijn. Eigenlijk dus zoals bijna overal in de stad Leiden de zaken nu ingericht zijn en op die manier is de zaak Burgerzaken dus tot mijn grote spijt vervallen tot één van de tientallen tot honderden doorsnee horecazaken in de hele omgeving van het centrum van de ooit gezellige stad. Een eenzaam en treurig stapeltje verlopen tijdschriften ligt nog in een onbelangrijk hoekje te wachten tot het weer een keer vastgepakt wordt terwijl goedkope diensters er vlak langs maar heen en weer razen. ´Pas op, were bringing the food in!´ (Woodstock1969!!😊) echter gaat dat niet meer zoals vroeger, bedenk ik terwijl ik het met een zekere weerzin aanschouw. En weer is er een ontmoetingsplek minder in het toch al zo eenzame en versteende Nederland, het kapitaal leidt tot een samenleving zonder gemeenschapszin, Marx had gelijk: wanneer 'het geld' keihard rendeert schiet de samenleving erbij in. ´Ilja Pfeijffer´ zag ik er ooit nog wel eens tevreden zitten, gepositioneerd vlak achter het imposante glaswerk en onder de majestueuze kroonluchter die dreigend boven hem hing. Nu kijk ik niet eens meer opzij, de zaak prikkelt gewoon niet meer. En Ilja is gevlucht naar Genua waar ze nog wel weten dat leven niet alleen maar uit geld verdienen bestaat. Gelijk heeft hij. Maar toch, de eigenaar zou moeten overwegen om zijn prachtige leestafel weer terug te brengen in zijn zaak, de zaak verdient die tafel namelijk. Inzichten die indalen hebben soms even de tijd nodig. Inmiddels is er weer een mini leestafeltje teruggeplaatst, het is te herkennen aan een klein Perzisch tapijtje dat eronder ligt. Covid zorgt voor nieuwe inzichten! Met de tijdschriften en talrijke dagbladen ´van vroeger´ gaat het nog steeds slecht; daarvan resteert er nog maar ééntje.. Jammer dat je als gast zelf een krant moet meenemen natuurlijk, de kosten van dagbladen staan ook in geen verhouding tot alle andere kosten in een restaurant. Afwachten maar, veel hoop op 'beter' heb ik nog niet.

Prima gegeten met een grote groep. We hadden het groepsmenu waarbij er bij het voor- en nagerecht een plank met verschillende dingen werd geserveerd. Voor het hoofdgerecht was er de keuze uit vlees, vis of vega. De service was goed. Er werd op de juiste momenten opgeruimd en nieuwe rondes geserveerd. Bij het nagerecht had er eerder gevraagd kunnen worden of mensen nog wat te drinken wilde hebben. Dat was nu pas na het nagerecht ter sprake gekomen. Het eten zelf was prima. De bavette van het hoofdgerecht was lekker, maar al met al, had alles nét iets meer smaak mogen hebben. De smaken waren een beetje vlak, maar dat is natuurlijk maar net wat je gewend bent en waar je behoefte aan hebt. Het had voor mij persoonlijk net wat spannender qua smaak mogen zijn. De sfeer was erg goed. We hebben het heel erg naar ons zin gehad en dat is ook zeker wat waard.

Ik stond op straat te wachten op het startschot van de halve marathon, Google. Ik was niet bij Burgerzaken. Maar ik kon wel zien dat de mensen in Burgerzaken het naar hun zin hadden. Die dachten ook: wij hebben koffie en hoeven straks geen 21 kilometer te rennen. Dikke prima.

We had a nice lunch in this charming restaurant. Our table was in the small outside back terrace. I had an excellent carpaccio ciabatta and my company had mackerel ciabatta. Local beer was great! Definitely value for money!

Leuke tent en sfeer hoor maar wij kwamen er een drankje doen. Er werd vrijwel direct tot 2 x toe gevraagd of we ook kwamen lunchen. 😑

Prima plek. Porties niet heel groot maar voldoende. Bij diner in de avond wel gehorig met muziek en andere gasten. Beperkt vegan opties. Risotto is vegan mogelijk, maar dat is dan gewoon zonder de parmezaan.

Misschien wel stiekem de beste tent van Leiden. Op een super locatie midden in het oude centrum op loopafstand van de winkels. De koffie is hier zeker een aanrader. Tip zaterdag ochtend kopje koffie, het bekende warme Franse broodje geserveerd met boter en jam , krant erbij. Daarna kan persoonlijk mijn zaterdag niet meer stuk. Tip lunch avond kaart en borrelkaart ook dik in orde.
