If you're on a diet, this is the place to be: very economical but delicious. Dinner combined with the hotel is very limited. The service wasn't great; the waiter had already forgotten the first drink we ordered. After that, they didn't even ask if we wanted anything else to drink.

Friendly staff and delicious food! I especially enjoyed the burrata appetizer.

Yesterday was our marriage anniversary, and we decided to celebrate it at Ruben Restaurant in Leiden — a place we truly love. Only here can you get the best cheese platter in the city, and it never disappoints. The food was absolutely delicious — rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. The cheese platter, as always, was the highlight of our meal. What made the evening even more special was the warm hospitality. Pim and Nomi gave us a heartfelt welcome and made sure we had a perfect dining experience. Their kindness and attention to detail made us feel truly valued. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited Ruben’s Restaurant in Leiden again today, and as always, the food was absolutely delicious. The highlight is definitely their cheese platter, which is hard to find anywhere else in Leiden. Since we’re regular and valued customers, we even received a voucher for two free drinks today — such a thoughtful gesture! We’ll definitely come back soon to enjoy those drinks. What a nice restaurant. Not expected from a hotel. Had a good reception from amal. Then had a delicious 3 course dinner. With a top service from Bella! Definitely recommended. Especially the delicious cheese board on the cheese cart

We went for 3 gangen menu deals. 37.5 per person Food is ok , staffs were nice but quite busy from group tour. Cheese cart is amazing 😍

While staying at the Golden Tulip, I visited the restaurant several times. The entrecôte and beef carpaccio were very good. The restaurant is well-maintained and the staff are very kind and friendly. Perhaps a few more dishes could be added to the menu.

Dreadful. They gave our food to someone else, and then insisted we have something else because they were closing the kitchen. Not even an apology when we complained. Avoid.

Heerlijk gegeten en we werden zeer leuk bediend. Informeel maar niet te. Qua eten voor iedereen wel wat lekkers te vinden.

Our experience at Restaurant Rubens was truly delightful. The atmosphere is amazing and the ambience sets the perfect tone for an enjoyable evening. The food was excellent, and the service provided by Pim and Joshua was both attentive and friendly. A standout moment for my husband was the exquisite cheese platter, which he absolutely loved. Adding to the charm, even the bar keeper, David, greeted us warmly, making us feel right at home. We always look forward to our dinners here!

The food at Robbins Restaurant is excellent. Their cheese platter is especially famous and absolutely worth trying. The staff is incredibly attentive and ensures you have a great experience. Incredibly delicious, daintily-presented food. We started with a superb duck terrine wrapped in serano ham. Then a delicious cut of salmon, fresh and perfectly cooked. And finally a carrot cake. All at a reasonable price. Highly recommended. The atmosphere is good but the decor slighly dated. The ceiling is a crowded forest of working lamps, disused lamps, speakers, fire sprinklers, airco units etc. which have built up over the years.

Personnel accueillant et professionnel Mais … ? Arrivés à 19h30 nous avons quitté la table à 21h30 alors qu’il y avait peu de convives ! Menu à 34,50€ : entrée plat dessert bon rapport qualité prix ! Petite soupe courgettes champignons versée sur une huile piquante et une crevette savoureuse Magret de canard bien épicé avec ses petits légumes ou haddock ( bien cuit ) avec mini carottes glacées et purée de légumes bien assaisonnée : les 2 plats bien goûteux ! Cheese cake au café avec glace au caramel langue de chat maison et languette de chocolat blanc : bon 1 eau San Pellegrino C’est le restaurant de l’hôtel Golden tulip où nous séjournions donc bien pratique après une longue journée!

Terrible service! It took way too long to get served and get food. This is not a Michelin restaurant, and it should not take 2+hours to go through the meal!

Helaas was ons bezoek deze keer een teleurstelling, met name qua bediening. Dit was slordig, traag en teleurstellend.

Went mid-evening in April. The restaurant was busy with groups of hotel guests staying for the tulip festival. We were welcomed and promptly attended to. Both a burger and vegetarian dish were strong on flavour and interest, and chips were fine. Desserts lived up to this standard, as did a South African red wine. Service continued to be friendly, energetic and responsive. A good bet if you are staying at the Tulip or Vic hotel, or nearby.

Too expensive and really not good.

Booked a dinner at Rubens, Golden Tulip hotel. Ordered a bottle of wine and ordered the three fixed courses as they advertised, so what can go wrong? After waiting ca 40 minutes after the starter i began to wonder and asked the waiter. Her expression was irritation, as they were just busy and could only do their utmost. So i wonder why they didn't inform their guests, as i saw many other tables waiting and waiting. After one hour the main course was served without apologies. Meantime the wine bottle was empty. The food was below average, the rice on my wife's plate was undercooked and tasted boiling bag cooked. Of course we were hungry and had to eat but complained. When picking up the plates i asked the waiter if it would take again a long time to deliver the desserts, and asked for feedback. No reply. Than we waited some time and complained when leaving this place. Suddenly the waiter came with the desserts. The appetite however was gone, didn't eat more, dinner was spoiled. No attempt from "Rubens staff/Golden tulip hotel" to compensate.

There is a lot to say here. First, we waited half an hour for soup that was gone in five bites. Then we only got our main course in an hour. Second, there was hardly anyone there, and still it took a super long time. Third, the soup was way too salty. Fourth, the salmon was tasteless, and when you dip it in the teriyaki sauce, it is too salty again. Lastly, it is way too expensive for very little food. I come to fill my belly. We were still hungry after this, so we went to another place to eat something else. 2x soup + a main course salmon already cost 40 euros. Even the bill we had to wait 10 minutes extra. From seven o'clock in the evening to half past eight. I will never eat here again.

Service was really slow. Had to wait a long time between ordering and serving of the food. Found a piece of plastic in my food.

Good reasonable restaurant, very good service with cordial staff. The menu has a good but limited choice of vegan or vegetarian dishes. The atmosphere is a bit dated, probably from the 80's and the quality of the food is reasonable. The vegetables yellow curry is good but served with a poppadom under the curry and above the rice (odd because it becomes immediately not crispy) . It is good but they should have served an additional poppadom. The choice of wines is OK. A bit expensive

Je jas word niet aangenomen bij de ingang en er word je ook niet gevraagd of je hem wil ophangen? De friet was veels te zout en het hamburger broodje was verbrand. Ik vind 18 euro voor een kale hamburger broodje zonder friet veel te duur. Erg beperkte 3 gangenmenu met keuze uit maar 2 gerechten per gang en voor 34,50 pp ook nog los bijgerechten ernaast bestellen? De vrouwen toilet had helemaal geen toiletpapier en je kan je hand niet in de deurhendel van het toiletdeur doen niet echt handig. Nee ik kom niet nog een keer terug Ik had meer van een restaurant van deze klasse verwacht maar ben best wel telleurgesteld.

Your coat is not accepted at the entrance and you are not asked if you want to hang it up? The fries were way too salty and the hamburger bun was burnt. I think 18 euros for a plain hamburger bun without fries is way too expensive. Very limited 3-course menu with a choice of only 2 dishes per course and also want to order separate side dishes for 34.50 pp? Cheesecake Baily's desert was rock hard and you had to fight through it. The women's toilet had no toilet paper at all and you cannot put your hand in the door handle of the toilet door, which is not really convenient. No, I won't be back again. I expected more from a restaurant of this class, but I was quite disappointed.

Nice location with very friendly staff. Was here for lunch and enjoyed a very good Angus burger. I'd love to come back.

Read the reviews before dining here alone and though I'm no gourmand I definitely disagree with the negative reviews. This is a pretty lovely hotel restaurant. Service was excellent throughout. I was served by Carline though I think the chef himself served the main and dessert. Perfectly lovely, attentive, not too formal, not intrusive, timings were just right. Nothing to fault. Atmosphere was relaxed, calm, music gentle and about right volume. Maybe a little brightly lit but a very minor negative and not enough to lose a star. I chose the fixed menu 34.50, with extra bread at €5 (very good and enough for two). Herring Tartar was delicious, perhaps heavy on the supporting beetroot but that's not a negative for me Veal Steak perfectly cooked but no gourmand so won't comment further other than to say I enjoyed it. I thought the Raspberry Creme Brûlée was amazing and I always have creme brulee if it's available so I do have some expertise in this domain!😁 It might not be michelin star status but I think it's one hotel restaurant I would definitely recommend, something I rarely do. Try it.

Nice and clean, ordered the flat iron, Cooking level was great and chewy beef. For me it was little small, but still good. I come to this hotel from time to time and it's first time eating at Ruben, was satisfying.

Wir wurden sehr freundlich willkommen geheißen von Nicole, unserer sehr gut gelaunten, freundlichen, kompetenten und eloquenten Bedienung. Ihr sehr gewinnendes Wesen ließ unseren Abend im Restaurant Rubens sehr schön beginnen. Pim, der uns auch auf deutsch beeindrucken konnte, erklärte das Abendessen sehr charmant. Und nachdem wir mit unserer Speisenwahl dank Martin, Bas und Ramon höchst zufrieden sein durften, rundete David mit seiner herzerfrischenden Art und dem ein oder anderen hochprozentigem Getränk unseren Abend perfekt ab. Man spürt das gute Klima im Team, und das finden wir ganz wunderbar. Hier kann und möchte man sich wohlfühlen. Das Ambiente lädt zum Verweilen ein, das Essen ist sehr toll. Von uns eine klare Empfehlung!

I entered the restaurant at 1920, but i am still waiting for my main course (2045). But taste is not bad

I am staying at the adjoining hotel for business, and on my second night here I had dinner in Reubens restaurant. What can I say! The quality of the food was INCREDIBLE. Absolutely mouth watering from start to finish. I chose to have the 3 course menu. To start, I had the salmon with caviar, blini and dill cream cheese. The presentation alone was enough to make my mouth water. The quality of the produce was very fresh and very delicious. Portion size was also perfect. For my main, I had the Venison steak with parsnip, oyster mushrooms, pumpkin and with a bock beer sauce. My goodness, if I could eat this meal every day for the rest of my life, I would be one happy lady. The meat was cooked to perfection and the accompanying vegetables were beautifully paired to the venison. I was quite saddened when it had all gone. For my dessert, I had a selection of cheeses, to which I was presented with a choice of around 10 different cheeses. The waiting staff were very knowledgeable about each option and the variety was like a dream for cheese lovers!! It was accompanied by a delicious traditional Dutch apple syrup, so delicious in fact that the staff allowed me to buy one of the tins of it for me to take home! The waiting staff were very lovely, polite and very attentive. All in all, I can’t find any faults in my experience at Reubens. HIGHLY recommended. If I visit Leiden again, I will be sure to return with guests!

Very bad main..very indiffirent starter.the sauce in the main was supposed to be cherry sauce but tje taste was pure vinegar.was suppoaed to have apple puree and it was half a fork..fir garniture there was vinegar taste cabbage One of the not so mains.really dissapointed

Extrem teuer und geringe Auswahl und leider kann man die Speisekarte nur in Englisch und Niederländisch lesen Die Bedienung ist sehr nett und Freundlich

Erg lekker gegeten. Prima voorgerecht met tonijn op z'n Japans. Medium Tournedos, was ook echt medium. En heerlijke kaas en Port. Alles afgeblust met een Dubbele Brand Bock. Zeer gedoenstige bediening. Voldaan en tevreden. Top avond.

Stayed at the hotel but order food (covid). It was amazing,what makes it unique is the fact you get a nice potion of food, great quality at a okayish price. They sort of made a middle ground which is awesome!!!

Het eten is lekker. De bediening is niet allert of scherp naar de gasten toe. Wij hebben na het hoofdgerecht ongeveer 50 min. niemand aan onze tafel gezien. Er is niet gevraagd of het smaakte of alles nog in orde was. Ook kregen we steeds andere mensen van de bediening aan onze tafel Er komt een tafel met kaas voor rijden al je een kaasplankje wilt tegen een meerprijs van 5 euro omdat wij een arrangement hadden. . Er lag een uitgedroogde harde kaas korst ( gember/oude kaas) die ik op mijn bord kreeg , een kaasdoos die leeg was en hier toch nog een lepel mee werd gevuld. Jammer van de kaasplank. De kok doet zijn best. De bediening mag dit ook gaan doen.

Heerlijk 3 gangen diner gehad. Voorgerecht: wildbouillon met verse bosuitjes en shi-take Hoofdgerecht: varkensoesters met zuurkool stamppot en groene asperges in madeirasaus en aardappelgratin met parmezaanse kaas saus. Nagerecht: hazelnoottaartje met mascarpone en stroopwafel pudding.

Gewoon niet erg bijzonder. Eten was saai en ongeïnspireerd.

Dagmenu met drie gangen, drank (geen wijn) en koffie met vier homemade snoepjes: 35€. Zeer attente ober met kennis van producten. Heilbot erg lekker, kaastafel verrassend.
