Ate here on January 19, curious after all the rave reviews. I don't know what they did, but the entire restaurant had a very penetrating chemical smell of cleaning products. This was so dominant that the flavors were completely lost. The food will undoubtedly be delicious, but with such a smell in your establishment you really shouldn't want to receive guests.

Disappointing experience. The food was poor quality, and some dishes were clearly not fresh. To make things worse, the service was both rude and painfully slow. I don’t recommend this place, best to avoid it!!!!

If you want to get into the Spanish atmosphere, this is the place to be! Had a great evening with delicious food and Spanish wines. A real gem in The Hague that I was not yet familiar with.

My partner and I discovered this restaurant almost two years ago by chance and we fell in love. The delicious food and friendly and close service have made us regular customers. 100% recommended!

Food was very tasty. I'm not a fan of the concept of shared dining, but ala. Only the music made live by a saxophonist and a xylophone was really terrible. Much too loud, which made it difficult to hear each other and the performance was simply not very good. There was no rhythm or melody at all, it seemed like they were just playing some random notes. A bit special.

A small cozy place and very well managed by the staff. There were only two servers, but they were very efficient en kind. Food tasted amazing, lots of seafood and meat. We ordered a lot, so the bill was a bit high, but non of the dishes disappoint, money well spend. Definitely recommend this place!

We received a very hospitable welcome and were well looked after throughout the evening. The starter and main courses were above expectations. In particular the octopus salad, but also the dried tuna were 10/10. Absolutely prepared with attention and beautifully served. Compliments to the hostess and the chef!

My girlfriend and I went for dinner, and highly recommended; The service is friendly without being pushy, the atmosphere is cordial and the food (what we ordered) was quite good; To highlight something negative, it would be the patatas bravas that are not up to the quality of the rest.

This is worth an absolute five star rating. So many refined dishes, excellent in taste and composition. Beautiful wines and everything served with pride and love for the profession. The chef also regularly and happily shows his hospitable side. Wow!

My wife and I spent a wonderful evening here yesterday. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a cozy atmosphere. The owner provided excellent service, was very attentive and gave us very good recommendations for wine and dessert. The food comes in tapas style in the middle to share, we had 2.5 starters/side dishes and a meat dish, which was perfect in terms of quantity. We thought it was great that the dishes always came gradually, so we could enjoy each one in peace. At the end there was a wonderful dessert, which rounded off the evening perfectly. It is advisable to bring your time here, as it can easily take over 2 hours in this oasis of well-being. We will definitely come back on our next visit

I think this is the best Spanish restaurant in The Hague. The steak is tender and juicy, and the slow-cooked veal steak is amazing with the sauce, tender meat, and mashed potatoes. Seafood dishes such as octopus and scallops have a deep flavor while preserving the taste and aroma of fresh ingredients, and vegetable dishes such as mushrooms are also fragrantly stir-fried. The wine list, which focuses on Spanish wines, may be a bit disappointing, but it also makes you feel confident that the chef will only serve wines he is familiar with. It has a cozy and cozy atmosphere, and the service is fast and the staff are friendly. This is a place I want to visit often when I have time.

Nice luxurious Spanish tapas bar. Operation largely in English. There was only 1 who took the orders as a result. Sometimes very small dishes for shared dining. And really expensive. Pata negra ham was great. Suckling pig also very good. Gambas a la plancha not super fresh.

Fantastic food for an extensive lunch, delicious wines, top service. I can't think of a single negative point. Chose this restaurant based on the review in magazine 'Lekker 2024' and I fully agree with the description. The attached photos are just some of the dishes we ate. Very cozy restaurant, nice atmosphere. Nice menu with lots of choice. Food is super good, really Spanish. The artichokes, piments padron, fantastic patatas bravas and an over the top tasty and perfectly prepared squid from the plancha. Delicious wines and nice service. It was nice. Not very suitable for kids. The pata negra ham was tasty and the cheese reasonable. The meat was tasty but you pay quite a lot for it (thirty-four euros for a piece). In my opinion, the wine was expensive (eight euros per glass), but tasty and there was a lot of choice. We couldn't really find any interesting options among the desserts offered. Paid more than two hundred euros for a dinner with three adults and two children. Certainly not a bad meal, but I wouldn't repeat it.

Had a wonderful evening with this Spaniard. Very tasty food, all shared dinner but can also be ordered per person! Veal cooked low is recommended. Excellent service with a very sweet hostess. Clearly explains what is on the menu and helps with making choices. The atmosphere in the restaurant is 'real' Spanish, you feel as if you are really in Spain. In short, fantastic!

The food is oversalted, unfortunately. The veal cheeks were cooked nice, but too much salt in the sauce. The octopus was burned, so it added the bitter taste to the, again, too oversalted dish. Patatas bravas were great. Service was nice and staff was friendly.

We had a fantastic meal here. It is a bit in the higher price segment, but as far as we are concerned it was well worth it. The food itself was delicious and the portions were more than sufficient, with high quality ingredients. There was a very extensive wine list, and our choice was certainly very popular. We were also helped very friendly and the interior was very attractive. Highly recommended!

Ich war anlässlich eines Geburtstags eingeladen. Das Essen ist vom Feinsten, der Wein war sehr lecker, ich war „BOB“, konnte daher nur ein wenig davon kosten. Der Chef kocht selbst, kam aber zu uns an den Tisch, Die Chefin macht den Service, sehr kompetent und nett. Unbedingt eine Empfehlung.

We had a delicious meal at El Mercat. This restaurant is located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in The Hague. The welcome was friendly and we were guided to our table. The ambiance is very atmospheric with Spanish music in the background. After the concept was explained to us, we ordered a number of dishes, all of which were very tasty. Lots of choice of nice wines, but good alternatives were also offered for people who do not drink alcohol. El Mercat is definitely worth a visit and is probably one of the best Spanish restaurants in The Hague and the surrounding area.

This place is the best kept secret in The Hague 🤫. Fine dining in an informal setting. Wines are incredible (try one of their many Ribera’s / pago de los capellanes). Service is friendly and relaxed. Chef is proud of his menu and can advice on best wine pairing. Will be back soon.

Maravillioso! We had an amazing dinner at El Mercat. We found the place on a portal, and we really had an incredible time. The service is warm and accurate and the menu is a real trip in the Spanish tastes! Everything is highly recommended and, considering the quality of the food and the location, the price is fair.

We are a group that made the trip a few weeks ago, we have put our rating and the owner is dedicated to threatening us through the reviews. The food was not bad but the service was terrible, we had to wait a long time to be served and the staff were quite rude. If they started respecting their customers they would have a much better chance of being a good restaurant.

Amazing food and very good wine!

Our experience here was quite nice! We ordered some "Pan allioli" to start, which was good. Then, we had the "Pulpo a la plancha", which was delicious, combining really well with the puree. Afterwards, we tried the "patatas bravas", which were also good. Additionally, we still had a chickpea/lobster stew, which was excellent and finally a meat dish (I don't remember the name) that was sweet and super tender, which I really enjoyed. The atmosphere was nice and the service was a tad slow, even though everyone was super nice. Overall, I recommend this place for a great meal!

No more Spanish restaurant in The Hague.

We celebrated an important anniversary at El Mercat last night and what a special spot for it! Not only were we treated to very warm and gracious hosting by the owners, the food is genuinely superb (which is rare in The Hague unfortunately). Fresh, very flavourful and elegant. A pity we didn’t have time for dessert but all the more reason to return soon 👌🏽thank you for making our evening so memorable!

After searching for a long time for good Spanish food, I finally found a nice place that is not a food bar hidden under “tapas”. Strangely enough, that is still quite difficult in the Randstad. Saturday evening started with the extremely friendly service of the hostess and owner, coats were neatly accepted and very attentive. During the evening the service was very attentive, regularly checked in to see how things were going and kept a close eye on us regarding drinks. We were given the menu and a list of special dishes for that day was presented, the concept and the daily items were all explained. Despite the crowds, they were relatively quick with most dishes. We started with the daily special 100% pata negra plateu, a bit pricey but very tasty, since you can't really get this 100% everywhere (usually 50/50 mixed). Followed by the kingfish sashimi, a good dish, but not that much. Plus some bread with tomato and olive oil, simple but effective and went well with the other dishes. The “main courses” were octopus, cod with shrimps, padron peppers and patatas bravas. - I haven't eaten octopus this well in a long time, it was extremely soft, with a bite on the outside and well seasoned. - Cod was perfect, not dry, but fell apart with a nice matching sauce. Only 4 shrimp, so see that more as a garnish. - Patatas bravas, patatas bravas, simple side dish. Fine. - Padron peppers - highly recommended, sounds like a simple dish, but we fell in love with these in Valencia, and these were pretty close to what we ate there! To finish, share a crema catalana (Spanish creme brulee) with a hint of orange? Tasty. Good recommendation for wine by the hostess, despite the rather mixed food. (Ranges between €7.8-8.9 per glass at the time of writing), lots of choice. We understood that her husband, the chef, is Catalan, and there was also a Spanish lady serving, which explained the good Spanish vibe in the restaurant. In the end we spent ~€165 for the two of us, so certainly not cheap, we are quite big eaters, but we did not leave hungry, nor were we overfull. Price/quality is good, quantity could be a little more. So if you are a smaller eater and you don't go for just about all the specials, it is doable. This is a Spanish gem in The Hague. Book in advance, there is a good chance that it will be full on the day itself/the day before. We will definitely come back when we have those Spanish cravings again!

Amazing place, good place, better food and beautiful people

My business colleague and I had an outstanding meal and time at El Mercat. The service was first class and very professional. The waitress/part owner was very knowledgeable, guiding us through the extensive wine menu. We actually went with their recommendations which was extremely nice. The food was outstanding, a real taste and flavour of Catalonia, highly recommended if you're in the city.

We love to have this gastronomic gift in Den Haag! 😍

I have never experienced such a bad restaurant!!! The five of us had a nice dinner for a birthday, and we all thought every dish was way too salty and way too little! We had garlic shrimp and got 3 mini slices of bread with it (there were five of us, you do the math). Not once were we asked if we wanted something to drink. The food was simply thrown on the table without any explanation or anything and the products on the menu were not entirely correct. For example, we had the secreto with something like truffle potatoes or something or a truffle sauce? But then it was probably gone too? Then the dessert: 2 crème brulee's, 1 of which has excellent firmness. The other, on the other hand, is one watery sludge! I tell the server that it was not good and she comes back with the answer: yes, they were all made like that today! So?!?! Is this how it should be? And that means that the other creme brulee was from the day(s) before?!?! Spent 270 euros for a shitty experience and an empty stomach!

5 stars, all the way. Best wines I've had in my life, best food I've had in a long while. The chef managed to make me enjoy artichoke, which is no mean feat. Seriously, this place is what restaurants are about: deceivingly cosy but highly professional at the core. If you combine that with personal attention and service that makes you feel like a friend, you've succeeded as host. Chapeau, dear chef and staff. Tip: divine lamb and octopus.

Semejante restaurante en un país con nula tradición culinaria es muy de agradecer. Además la ubicación es perfecta, el servicio muy agradable y la cocina es de lo mejor. Y una gran sorpresa: un café como los de España, no eso raro e indeterminado que siempre te dan bajo el nombre de café. Mucha suerte Guille y señora, espero volver pronto.

Geen goede keus voor vegetariërs. Mijn niet-vegetarische tafelgenoten waren wèl zeer tevreden. Maar ik dus niet. Er staan veel V-gerechten op de kaart. Maar behalve de desserts, zijn het teleurstellende gerechten. Courgette carpaccio blijkt smakeloze hap. Seizoens paddestoelen zijn deels goed, maar deels niet gaar. Zonde. Patatas bravas zijn prima. Nagerechten zijn prima. Maar per saldo krijg je als vegetariër geen eiwitten en vertrek je met een hongerig gevoel. Voor vegetariërs dus een teleurstellende ervaring. De bediening is wel helemaal prima. Wijnen die per glas verkrijgbaar zijn, zijn zeer goed. Prijzen zijn hoog vergeleken met andere horeca in de stad.

One Vasco, one Catalan and one Dutch: it sounds like a joke but no, they are seriously good: no individual tapas but sharing, no tourist-oriented fake stuff but real spanish food👌They have that and 160+ wines...🍷cheers!

This restaurant is great. It serves real food, focusing on the main product. All meals are prepared with a lot of attention, and we can feel it in the impressive deep tastes of the plates prepared with few elements. After going to many restaurants in The Hague, I can say this is my preferred one for having good and authentic food. Perhaps it will not be the cheapest place to go in The Hague (neither the most expensive), but it deserves every cent as I pay for fresh ingredients (and not for storytelling). The service is amazing with much attention to the orders and to people. The location is very convenient, and the space and decoration are lovely. The terrace during summer is a plus.

Heerlijk eten. Het was wat druk dus ging wat langzaam. Sfeer is gezellig, plekje was wat minder. Ook koud dichtbij de deur. Het eten is echt heel goed! Wij komen zeker terug.
