What a disgrace... the price/quality ratio is quite skewed. Given the building's appearance, I didn't expect such a bad lunch; I've never had such a disappointing one before. The restrooms weren't clean either. We won't be back.

Worse experience ever! We never received our order of food and decided to leave as we were with young children and they were starving. I will not recommend it to anyone. Drinks were brought half hour after ordering them when we commented to the waiter he said it was busy but it was not. Such a pity as it used to be a very efficient service couple of years ago. There was no wait to get a table but to get the food &drink it was more than 1h15 after ordering it

Read all the other reviews before you go here. You'll realize it's incredibly bad. Don't go here for lunch, because you'll be extremely disappointed. I wanted to give it a try, but I wouldn't go there again.

We came with our children and had to wait an extremely long time for our food. During all that time, none of the staff showed any understanding or care for the fact that we had hungry kids waiting. The employees were unfriendly and gave us the feeling that they simply didn’t care. When the food finally arrived, it was already cold and tasted disappointing, especially after such a long wait. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially not to families with children. The service is slow, the staff lacks empathy, and the food not only arrives cold but also tastes bland. It’s a real shame, because instead of offering a pleasant meal, this place turns what should be a nice family outing into a bad experience.

Nothing wrong with a nice bite to eat if you're in the area. The service (the kitchen lady) was fantastic, served with humor and friendliness! The food was reasonable. The kids were happy with the pancakes (despite one pancake being a bit too crispy), but our burgers were a bit brown. They could have been cooked a bit shorter, but otherwise, they were well-filled! I don't think I'd come here again, but for a quick bite, it was fine!

Where the pancakes used to be delicious, now (06-08-2025) they're a huge disappointment! The pancakes (regular ones with apple) were partially black, tasted like cardboard, and seemed reheated. And the gluten-free ones with bacon were barely manageable. And I was sick from them in the evening.

Enjoy your meal on the terrace by the water in the evening sun. Total relaxation!

We had a delicious satay. The local beer from the Kemphaan brewery was also good. It was a lovely spot in the evening sun. Friendly staff.

Today we celebrated our wedding on the terrace at De Waterburght. We love the monkeys hopping around across the street, the natural surroundings, and the relaxed, peaceful atmosphere. It's always been a happy place for us. Contact with the staff went smoothly. They took the time to brainstorm with us and even offered to purchase special drinks and food for us. Chef Esther also stole my heart. She makes such delicious food! De Waterburght is grateful to have her in the kitchen. We were incredibly surprised by the delicious fresh country bread and the vegan salami with egg, which tasted even better than crispy bacon. There are so many vegan and gluten-free options that everyone was satisfied. We normally look outside of Almere for similar options where the food is prepared with such love and care. We are incredibly grateful that we can enjoy such a wonderful experience in our own city. A big thank you to all the staff, the monkeys, and the natural surroundings. I don't really understand all the negative reviews. It's wonderfully peaceful and the staff are friendly!

After a lovely walk, we had a delicious lunch. Good fresh mint tea and delicious fresh rolls. They even brought a bowl of water for our dog without us even asking, a big plus! Despite the negative reviews, we had a great lunch here.

An extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience with the manager of 'De Waterburght'. I accepted the agreed-upon fee for a simple room rental—including all the conditions they proposed—without objection. The date and time were then finalized in our calendars by both parties. Yet, the manager unilaterally revoked this official agreement via email, without any reason and in an indecent manner. My company and all the guests I had already invited were completely ignored, despite my multiple requests to reach a reasonable solution. Furthermore, the argument was that the agreed-upon fee was "not enough effort," which is completely incomprehensible considering that this only involved room rental without staff, catering, or other services. This gives the strong impression that they are primarily concerned with money, not with customer focus or respect for others.

Culinary chaos with a hint of despair Well, if you ever wanted to know what it's like to be featured on an episode of 'Cooking with Disaster Plan' – book your table here! We thought we were going to have a nice lunch, but instead we got a masterclass in "How to make everything go wrong in 7 simple steps." The lunch didn't arrive at the same time – which is actually a smart move if you want your table companions to remain jealous of each other's food, or to try cold food beforehand. Forgotten orders? Check. Staff who know less about allergies than a goldfish knows about algebra? Double check. In short: an experience I can't recommend to anyone, unless you're allergic to good service – in which case you'll be in heaven. But probably also in the wrong place.

The chef in this catering establishment should never be allowed to work in the kitchen again, it is that you have to give a star but this "chef" does not even deserve that. Setting the kitchen is clean so I can only call up a pancake otherwise I will not be outside on time. The service is mainly cozy with each other and I think they have never been trained in how I am hospitable. Walk around it with a wide berth!

Today we had pancakes at this restaurant with a view of the monkeys. When we arrived, the staff was mainly chatting and doing nothing. The tables were dirty, sticky, and there was even a bird poop on my backrest and a couple of guests behind us had to ask twice if they could please wipe the table. The pancake was nice and warm and served without cutlery that we had to ask for. Music determines your appetite, on Spotify you have the best and chill lists instead of having to listen to Frenna or Jonna Fraser. (Very nice for a trendy clothing store or festival but not when you are eating a pancake with company, young or old) In short: Put your young staff to work! Put them “on” The hygiene needs to improve because this was downright bad and all in all this mainly costs you tips.

Simple… a simple terrace with a nice view of the monkeys and the water. Simple menu with simple sandwiches and the service could be much better. Standing with a tray next to you and expecting you to take it off yourself. Several times someone at the table with food/drinks for another table and when asking about the menu they didn't know how to answer anything. Really a shame because with good service and menu you can make it a nice place.

It’s an amazingly unique place where you can enjoy delicious food while admiring amazing views. The building has very cool architecture, and the staff is always very kind. We hope to come back soon !

One of my favorite places! Grandcafé de Waterburght is amazing. The food is super tasty and always fresh, the drinks are great (I’m in love with their coffee!), and the view is just stunning. It has a really warm, cozy vibe and the staff is so friendly — they really care and make you feel welcome. It’s also a perfect spot if you’re working remotely. Chill atmosphere, great service, and everything you need to feel comfortable. Totally recommend checking it out!

I have spent some incredible moments in this place. I'm staying in a campsite near the restaurant so I've been here several times in the last few weeks and it's simply delicious. They have a varied menu with vegetarian and vegan options as well. The place is a giant plus, you have a view of nature, very calm, good music but perfect for conversation and enjoying the food and drinks. My favorite dish was the hamburger and the tuna sandwich. However, I tried the kip sate, delicious option. The bitterballen are perfect for snacking while you drink your beer. Another giant plus is the amount of food, the portions are quite generous. I enjoyed the food so much that I forgot to take pictures, but today I say goodbye to this place and I had to leave this review so I leave the picture of my last dish. I recommend this place 100%. Don't miss the vanilla milkshake either, amazing.

Dropped in for a late lunch with my daughter. An empty restaurant. Ordered two drinks, 1 pancake and 1 croquette sandwich. After 10 minutes my daughter went to wash her hands and saw the croquette sandwich in the kitchen on the bread roll under the warming lamp. However, the order only arrived 20 minutes later. The white bun had become rusk and the croquette lukewarm. I asked for and received a new bun. The pancake was fine. But I would have rather spent this hour + 25 euros elsewhere and differently.

Unfriendly environment, not wheelchair friendly at all, staff is far from friendly and ignores you on several levels. Cold 'warm' chocolate milk. Poor sandwiches. Of which the butter was suddenly gone while the other did have butter. We probably even got a vegan croquette and ordered a normal one. Besides all this it was very quiet and you can count on one hand the number of visitors, especially most of them for coffee and still we had to wait at least 20 minutes for a sandwich. After reporting the multiple complaints you get strange looks, no solution is given and the person turns his back to you to help another customer. Eventually after waiting we went to eat because we didn't want to make a fuss because I was also with a child and didn't want to upset them because this should have been a nice day. Both left half the food because it was not pleasant or tasty in any way. This cost us 35 euros without an apology. To end with asking for the bill 3 times and to receive napkins. A big no-go here! In summary, Not wheelchair accessible, not child friendly, not friendly or cheerful staff and the food is also extremely poor for the price you pay for it.

How bad, Service that does not pay attention. Everyone apparently has to ask for an order to be taken, then you can wait an hour for it, after that it turns out that the wait was not worth it considering the quality. We will never come back here!

On Sunday 11 May we arrived at the restaurant at 16:00. It was quiet and there were several tables free. But we were not allowed to order because we had not made a reservation. When we asked if we could make a reservation, we were told that it did not work that way. We had come all the way from Amstelveen for a tour of the Aap foundation with the plan to eat here afterwards. What a disappointment and unfriendly and incomprehensible service.

A very messy restaurant in a beautiful location. When you arrive it seems closed because there is so much mess and you enter through the back of the kitchen. Staff is poorly trained (staff can't do anything about it, they made something of it) company clothing is not okay (a young boy is almost serving in his underpants) 2 types of croquette sandwich, which meant that every order went wrong and not all the food came to the table at the same time. With good management and a tidy policy, it can become a great event Food is quite okay.

The three pancakes for the adults were undercooked, chewing gum-like. The children's pancake was ok. The tables were dirty and not cleaned automatically. We had to look for cutlery ourselves and we even had to ask for sugar. They didn't have cinnamon for the apple pancake. Sad affair. There is a slide that ends on concrete. Two stars is actually too many, but our granddaughter was satisfied with half a pancake.

Waitress greets us with "Yes, what?" Choice of pancake or hamburger. Only pancakes were gone. Wine sent back, way out of date and tasted like vinegar. Food is okay, snack bar quality. Prices don't match that. For this amount you would be better off dining elsewhere.

Undoubtedly, it was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Two adults with two children. We ordered drinks and four pancakes. We waited for 20 minutes before our drinks were served. Even then, they messed up the order. An hour after ordering, our pancakes still hadn't arrived! When we asked the staff what was going on with our order. We were told that they couldn't tell us when it would be ready. At that point, I asked to cancel the order. There was no apology forthcoming from the member of staff. She was completely disinterested. She didn't even think to apologise; she just shrugged her shoulders, and that was it. I advise staying clear of this place as they have the rudest and most incompetent staff. Avoid at all costs especially if you're hungry and would like to actually eat something within an hour of ordering!

Had dinner here in the evening, very tasty pancake and for dessert Affogato (ice cream with an espresso on top): delicious. It was quiet, good care and enjoyed the sun. Thank you!

Factory pancakes with a sliver of apple and factory cheese slices. Unworthy of a restaurant. Understand that it has been taken over by a new owner. They should not have done that. Typical example of current 'convenience' catering in the Netherlands. Paying top price for ready-made junk.

Closed on a Sunday, this really doesn't make sense... even the fountain is no longer on on summer days. One of the places where children can still have fun on the rare days with good weather in this country. Apparently the municipality is behind this, which budgets 2 million for a party but does not want to turn on a fountain for a few days a year... what a bitter society this is becoming...

Na wisseling van de eigenaar wat opstart problemen. Maar het restaurant is opgeknapt en ziet er netjes uit. Nieuwe kaart met ook vegetarische gerechten. De vega hamburger is van goede kwaliteit.

The restaurant was taken over a few months ago. After some start-up problems, the restaurant now looks neat and tidy. The menu has been renewed. The food was very tasty. There are also vegetarian dishes on the menu. The veggie burger is highly recommended. Definitely worth eating in a beautiful place.

Was there this afternoon. Ordered 2 pancakes. The pancake was very thick that my son thought it was pizza. Fries were also not fresh. The oil was old. Paid 20 euros for it. Now I understand why no one was there.

2 pancakes, 2x white, 2x fristi and 1x croquette roll, 1x frikandel. The pancakes were not good. Dough was raw and tasted like flour. I feel like pancakes are already prepared. And be warmed up with orders. I think it has become pricey and the quality of the dishes are no longer what they used to be.

Unfortunately the tent has been taken over. They didn't have a menu yet, the English-speaking waiter indicated, but you could order pancakes, fries or toast. Had the sandwich but what a disgrace. The cheese was not melted and the bread was not crispy. Mayonnaise and ketchup in a plastic packaging like at the snack bar. Unfortunately, there is much room for improvement here. Until about 4 months ago, a wonderful restaurant with pleasant service. Company appears to have changed ownership. The current staff doesn't look around when you enter, and they don't understand Dutch very well. Even ordering a soft ice cream is a problem, no one knows how the soft ice cream machine works. Waste of your money

Eating pancakes with my son on Monday afternoon, July 8, unfortunately the pancakes looked as if they had been pre-baked and had come out of the microwave before serving. The pancake with cheese and bacon was full of oil from the cheese, the grated cheese was dark yellow and very hard, but had been melted. I didn't complain because the man was alone to run the entire store, his service was also very nice and calm. In the past we had a good meal at De Kemphaan, but this time it was a completely different experience. My son had a pancake with Nutella, this pancake also looked pre-baked and arrived lukewarm on the table. My son had no complaints. Nutella was delicious. The seat is well swept and the atmosphere is always good at De Kemphaan.

Tried to organize a dinner for about 25 people at this once best restaurant in Almere, but after 4 weeks still no good agreements regarding our choice of buffet, we were unreachable by telephone and email. No confirmation despite multiple requests via their appointment system. We have canceled this.

Vreselijk, dit kan echt niet. Een spa rood besteld met de vraag om een citroentje. “Aan citroentjes doen wij niet”, was het antwoord. Ook een glas tonic kwam dus zonder citroen. 2 pannenkoeken besteld want ja, je zit tenslotte bij een pannenkoekenrestaurant. De ingrediënten waren ná het bakken van de pannenkoek op de pannenkoek gelegd. Stukjes appel waren slap en gedrenkt in een of andere siroop. Zeer onervaren en ongeschikt personeel. Boven leek het alsof er een frituur overuren maakte, verschrikkelijke stank. Ontzettend jammer want Stichting Aap maakt reclame voor dit restaurant in hun mails en dan verwacht je toch iets goeds. Niets is helaas minder waar. Ga hier niet eten! Dit mag géén pannenkoekenrestaurant heten!

Only English was spoken by the staff, no Good afternoon or Please in Dutch, a few words is not too much to ask, is it?! The pancakes with cheese are not recommended, the cheese was strange, had no taste and resembled chewing gum. Removed the cheese and added syrup, you have to do something. Fortunately, the soft ice cream dessert was tasty. The location is beautiful, a beautiful view of St. Aap.

We gingen niet over 1 nacht ijs, dus 2 x gegaan: de eerste keer vlees/vis-gerecht, de 2e keer (omdat de 1e keer niet beviel) pannenkoeken - ook dat was geen meevaller. Advies: ga er niet naartoe. Onsmakelijk eten, slechte kwaliteit, goedbedoelde maar amateuristische bediening. Jammer!!

Wat is er met de Kemphaan pannekoeken restaurant aan de hand? Alleen Engels sprekend personeel in de bediening, lang wachten op koude, vieze pannekoeken. Maar 10 pannekoeken op de menukaart. Prijs/ kwaliteit is beneden peil. Gaan er niet meer naar toe. Geen aanrader! Mag zich eigenlijk geen pannekoeken restaurant meer noemen.

A debacle for us. Had lunch reserved for my wife's birthday. Table not reserved, "fortunately" a picnic table is still available. Food ran out, even no pancakes for the children. Someone had been sent to buy ingredients. We were finally able to order drinks. Paid and left. The email my wife sent in which she expressed her disappointment was never responded to. I wish the next visitors more success.

Nice food, portions are big. We had a birthday celebration there today. Ordered a bit of everything except alcohol. Bruschetta is like a main dish. Meat was very soft. It was cold to sit outside, so they found to us some place inside.

Familie en pannenkoekenrestaurant is altijd super gezellig. Overdag is het vaak druk met kinderen. Wij hebben hier regelmatig verjaardagsfeestjes gevierd van onze zoon. Stadslandgoed de Kemphaan is écht een fantastische locatie. Er is zoveel te doen: een klimbos, 2 restaurants, de Jungletuin, Stichting Aap, de Stadsboerderij en gewoon lekker wandelen in het bos. Ook een leuke plek om te picknicken. We komen hier meerdere keren per jaar. Echt een aanrader als je in Flevoland bent. Vandaag in de avond geweest. Lekker rustig en na een wandeling wat lekkers... Gooise friet is heerlijk!😉

We went for the first time with our grandchildren and waited more than half an hour for our burnt black and hard pancakes. We ordered 4 with bacon, the waiter comes with 3 with bacon and the fourth with bacon and cheese, which we did not order, the waiter says, this is bad🤭 not recommended for us and is not acceptable.

What a bad thing. Ordered 2 frikandelen with peanut sauce, 1 fries and children's menu. 3 milkshakes. Milkshakes were over 3 hot chocolates. After waiting for an hour and a half, 1 person received his 2 frikandels with fries sauce and tomato ketchup. Half an hour later, no hot chocolate, no fries, no children's menu. When we wanted to pay for the frikandels, we got them for free. Keep it up and you can close your shop

If you can count the fries then you know enough, never again! Almost €20 euros for a few fries and a few pieces of chicken. 2x fries + chicken thigh salad is nothing (note a few pieces of chicken) €18.95! 1x €16.95 (lettuce and 5 pieces of chicken) "salad" 2x fries + nuggets €7.20 (more fries than adult menu) 1x pancake €7.90 1/3 was hard, seemed to have been heated in the microwave. Total €103,- including drinks The children's menu even had more fries! Poor and Expensive!

What a lot of fun this has become there. Really hadn't been there in 6 years Very friendly staff. The same waiter who came to take and deliver orders. Enjoyed the pancake together with my mother. Highly recommended. There were quite a few people but the atmosphere was very nice. We had the "ton table" with high bar chairs in the corner near the window downstairs. Enjoyed the view with cormorants and cute ducks. The staff paid close attention to you if you were looking for the waiter. Neat. We ended our meal with a monthly promotion: the Latte Macciato with hazelnut syrup and whipped cream.....see photo, very tasty. And I will definitely come back there Was very successful. We werden welkom geheten door het personeel en kregen uitleg hoe alles werkte, top! Complimenten voor de bediening. We waren met kleindochter van 4, pannenkoeken waren erg lekker.

We had unlimited pancakes via social deal for 8.95 pp. Everyone was completely full after one pancake. The pancakes are quite thick and large. And if you leave half or more than half a pancake, you have to pay €7.25. So in the end everyone had 1 pancake. An additional 1.25 was added for each topping. While if you take a pancake from the menu you have much more choice and you ultimately pay almost the same if you take multiple toppings. Quality was otherwise okay. In the play area, the changing mat is literally next to a table where people eat. I personally didn't find this fresh. Location is nice and it is definitely child friendly.

We had dinner here on Friday February 16, 2024. Once but never again! The service was poor: constantly gone, nowhere to be found. When she happened to be in the area, she tried to clear glasses that were not yet empty. The pancakes were even simpler and sparsely topped than the pancakes you bake at home. I even doubt whether they bake the pancakes fresh here! What a deception!

Fairly basic pancake restaurant. The pancakes tasted good. The service seemed a bit awkward/inexperienced. We sat in the upper part of the restaurant, where the light was much brighter and therefore less cozy than downstairs. However, the space for children is a nice addition. This makes it very suitable for families with (young) children.

A very nice cozy place to sit. Unfortunately, the pancakes were a disappointment. They were burnt, simply topped (just sprinkled some on top) and also very expensive for what you get. For the rest you can sit there and have a cup of coffee.
