Free Cafe Groningen in Nieuw-West

It is 100% free, it only costs you energy if you go by car or public transport costs or if you walk or cycle then it only costs you energy and nothing more

I was invited by a friend for first time and it was great! People showed me and explained me around, very very friendly, open and cheerful people. I received bread first to take away, smiles, a chat in my native language, beautiful acts to cut fruits together, hugs, tasteful food as dinner, delicious pastries fresh leftover from the bakery that a grateful soul went to pick up by bike, a warm welcoming in the table where I seat and great people I hope we become good friends. And all this for free 0€ This is an example that the precious things in life are price-less. I am very grateful and happy to know that these people created this community, initiative and environment for me and hopefully for others. Thank you :) I want to continue coming and being part of creating this

I went here once years ago and i think i need to go again because i met some amazing people here. And, not everyone is a student

Great initiative by samaritans of Groningen who are trying to minimize food wastage by running this free cafe every Wednesday and Sunday.

With food made from the leftovers from the market. It's a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to be. Also tasty food too!

Tasty sustainable food for free with very friendly people.

The dinner is made from leftovers from markets, voedselbank and bakers ("the bread of yesterday"). Together we consume the food that would else been thrown away. Everyone helps on a voluntary basis, there are volunteers for picking up the food, sorting out the food, cooking, dishes, cleaning afterwards, and many volunteers for eating the dinner. It is a nice place to meet new people. Dishes are vegetarian because meat becomes dangerous after it's sell by date. There are vegan options too. I am a volunteer for the cleaning afterwards, and I must say it gives me a lot of satisfaction!
