This place is definitely overrated. The portions are generous, but beware of the prices, which add up quickly (+size, +sauce, +drink). The fries are pretty basic, but the staff is very welcoming and even offered us a small paper bag to better carry the food, which isn't very convenient to carry alone (a cone and a tray of meatballs).

It's okay, a small fry is enough! Be careful, everything is optional: sauces, fries, drinks. The bill adds up quickly.

Two stars deducted for the ambiance because it didn't invite anyone to linger. But the fries were delicious.

Unfriendly staff who don't listen to your order, so you have to repeat everything. Fries were simply placed on the table without any comment. The fries were soggy and not very tasty. There are much better alternatives nearby.

The fries are perfect and the spicy mayonnaise is super good for an affordable price. A pure and simple treat.

Given the high reviews, I thought, "This is the place to be if you're looking for fries in Amsterdam." To be honest, I was quite disappointed. It seems to cater mainly to tourists, because a true Dutch person is used to better fries, and certainly at better prices. I had a medium fries with spicy mayo. That's already €6.50 more (€5 for the medium fries and €1.50 for the sauce). I skipped the snack, because otherwise, most snacks would cost you another €6. Oh well; a Mexicano is still €4. It's in a tourist area, so I can't explain the high price otherwise, because quality-wise, I've had much better fries in my life. The sauce wasn't my thing, the fries were a bit dry, and lacked flavor. In short, personally, I'd look elsewhere for a different snack bar.

Amazing bitterballen and fries! It was the last restaurant in our Belgium + Amsterdam trip and it was the perfect place to conclude, since the fries were very similar to belgium fries. The truffled mayonnaise sauce was also sooo good.

My friend and I are visiting from Australia and we visited on the 5th day of our trip after having fries every single day so far. Can safely say these are the best ones of our trip!

I went to this place 40 minutes before closing time, the time indicated on Google Maps, and the man refused to serve me, saying it was closed. Adjust your schedule carefully so you don't waste our time.

The hours are incorrect! They close 30 minutes early.

Fries a bit on the greasy side and the place is just a service point.

Food tasted good and there was plenty of sauce except the one thing all these fry houses have in common is the horrible packaging that is awkward to eat out of and the wooden utensil that can't even pierce a fry. For detail, the sauce really only works out for the top half of the fries in the packaging.

We didn't know what to expect as this is not the most famous fries place in Amsterdam, but it was definitely our favorite there! We had the joppie sauce with big fries and it was very tasty!

These aren’t just fries, they’re a full-blown experience. Crispy outside, fluffy inside, and doused in your sauce of choice, with the Joppie sauce stealing the show. Creamy, curry-kissed, and just weird enough to be addictive. The staff was quick, the vibe clean and simple, and the portions generous. Grab a cone and wander, this is peak Amsterdam snacking.

An overrated place with very basic fries, but they're still good. Always crowded, so you have to be patient. What will make the difference is what you choose.

Why does this place turn away customers at 9:15 pm when they close at 10 pm? The two guys who were working turned us and 2 other customers away saying they didn’t have enough fries and couldn’t serve anymore because they had to clean up. We saw the pile of fries they had and it was enough to likely serve 50+ people. They knew we were not happy and did nothing but grin and laugh. Very mature. Anyways, can’t comment on the food due to the fools who work here. HORRIBLE customer service!!!

It's reasonably priced, which is good. And if you go, definitely get the truffle sauce – that was a winner. Overall, it was just... alright. Honestly, I don't get all the hype. At the end of the day, fries are fries, right? It's okay for a snack.

Overrated reviews. First time try it plain but nothing outstanding about it. Fries are freshly made and tossed with salt just like any decent restaurants would have. I think the sauce is the soul added to the fries. May try with sauce next time.

We visited Frites Huys multiple times when staying in Amsterdam recently as it was conveniently located by the hotel we were staying at. The owner was very friendly, and the chips and mayonnaise tasted exactly what I was expecting it to taste like. Yummy, and it didnt disappoint! There were multiple other sauces on offer, which we also tried and the portion of chips were cooked on arrival. Highly recommended if in the area.

Food isn't bad but another scam food place in the Dam Square area over charging by adding an extra meal onto your order, I asked for a receipt and after a minute the guy on the left in the pic said 'oh I accidentally charged you for an extra portion of chip here's 5 Euros back, I would have normally believed this but it happened at another local restaurant

Stopped here for a snack as we walked the streets of Amsterdam. Chips were delicious, perfectly crisps and not a sighting of grease. The guy who served us was so nice, chatty & kind.

The fries are delicious, and the meat croquettes are INCREDIBLE. As is the cheese empanada: €25 for medium fries and small fries with a sauce each, 1 cheese empanada and 4 meatballs, water, and Coca-Cola. You'll feel pretty good about it. And the waiter is very kind and friendly. Right next to the central plaza. The only thing is that they have high tables without seats and two benches for you to eat. I needed a small table to sit on, but it's great.

Walked in there without really knowing much. Just wanted some fries. Gentleman was super friendly and kind enough to explain everything and even suggest what we should get it for the first time. And it was amazing! He really wanted us to enjoy his fries. He even watched us eat it right outside and made sure we loved it! 😁😁😁

We arrived around 12.30/1pm only to be told the oil was 'still cold' and would take another hour or so to warm up 😂 this is despite opening at 10.30 (according to Google) and us being able to see the oil bubbling away behind him. Couldn't understand why they were open if they couldn't serve basically the only thing on their menu. Very strange experience!
