Garlic Queen in Grachtengordel-Zuid

They are complete scammers. I asked to replace chicken with shrimps in a Ceaser salad and i had to pay 18 EUR for 3 shrimps!!!! OUTRAGEOUS! I asked for bread for a soup, they charged me 15 EUR for 2 small slices. When you tell them they are robbers with empty tables, they mock you, say you have to pay and this is Amsterdam so you are not very smart in their view as you should know this is an expensive area. I will make a complaint to the authorities as well, please don’t visit this place! It’s a joke and the worst robbery! This never happened to me in my 6y living in NL.

We ate at Garlic Queen with a group of twelve. Delicious, surprising dishes with garlic, of course, playing a starring role (including garlic ice cream). Very friendly staff, great atmosphere, and a lovely patio. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely loved this place. The food was packed with flavor. If you’re a garlic fan, you’re in the right spot. Everything was cooked just right, with bold taste but nothing overpowering. The service was friendly and on point, attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere is cozy, stylish, and full of personality. It’s elegant but not stuffy, with fun little touches that make it stand out. Prices felt totally fair for the quality. All around, a great experience. I’d come back in a heartbeat.

Food was ok - the baked garlic is fabulous but service was lacklustre sadly. Two tables occupied but it still took a long time to be served and no water offered despite it being a very hot night. Sad as we had heard such good things and had fabulous service elsewhere in Amsterdam.

Food is ok but more overpriced for what you get. We had boeuf bourguignon which was ok but the red cabbage was surely not made fresh but came from a jar of the brand Hak. If I wanted to eat a heated supermarket product I could have done that at home

My husband and I had a lovely Sunday lunch here, with a delicious taste of their Garlic Queen Liqueur. We enjoyed seeing the large portrait's of the past and current Queens of the Netherlands. Tucked right behind the Flower Market, a perfect intimate place to wind down.

Fantastic evening, delicious food and sitting outside on the terrace. Also nice in bad weather due to the canopy and heathers.

The perfect combination of good food, good service and a cozy atmosphere! I’ve had dinner several times at the Garlic Queen. I love Garlic!!!! The way they prepare it and use it in the food, on the food, through the food is just… Delicious!! And not “too much”, overwhelming, because they serve it in the right combination and always fresh!! I just love it, that’s why I keep coming back there. The restaurant had been there for some years now, so they have their classics: Garlic soup, Garlic baker, Garlic icecream, …you name it. And also possible without Garlic, but than you don’t know what you’re missing!!!! The service is good and I like their interior; fresh, clean, modern combined with a touch of Dutch Royal camp. Who wouldn't want to sit next to a Queen?! :))

Everything has been taken care of down to the last detail, from the interior to the presentation. Their homemade specialty beer, Garlic Queen, is an absolute must. I have tasted it and can say with certainty that this beer offers a unique taste experience - something you should try! Although I have not yet eaten there myself, I can say from experience that Garlic Queen is a place where quality and passion are clearly central. I definitely recommend visiting here!

Gambas and the Lamb shank were a disappointment. Waste of money 0/10 The filet mignon was beautiful 8/10. The soup was also wonderful 7/10. The service is awful. The restaurant wasn't even half full and we waited tremendously. Our order was taken falsely and we were met with a not so friendly attitude when we objected. Drinking and working clearly don't mix...

Een gezellige ook smaakvolle sfeer waar je hartelijk wordt ontvangen. Het eigen knoflookboter was verrassend lekker en allevier vonden we ook onze verschillende knoflookgerechten lekker. Topper was de soep. Met wat hulp waren het restaurant en de wc voldoende toegankelijk voor mij als rolstoelgebruiker. (Ik kan wel een paar stapjes doen) Heerlijke avond gehad.

Habíamos estado en el restaurante en noviembre y teníamos buena comida, pero mal servicio. Queríamos intentarlo de nuevo y el servicio era aún peor. Estábamos muy emocionados de venir para la cena de Navidad. Recomiendo encarecidamente que no pierda su tiempo en este restaurante. Caminamos por la calle dos puertas y tuvimos una experiencia increíble. No he salido de un restaurante en 20 años. ¡La mejor decisión que he tomado! El restaurante ni siquiera estaba medio lleno. Tomó la decisión de no servirnos. O no le importaba. Muy decepcionado.

Such a disappointment; dined here a year ago & experienced amazing food & slow service; arrived for our 7pm reservation & were greeted & seated right away after telling the owner/server we came back because of the food last year. We waited 30 minutes @ the table & he never came back. The restaurant was 2/3rds full; unacceptable & very disappointed as this was to be our Christmas dinner. He made a choice to ignore us; very inhospitable & inexcusable.

Wij hadden de Garlic queen al een tijdje op ons lijstje staan van plekken waar je niet zomaar even tussendoor heengaat maar echt omdat het wat bijzonders is. En dat was het ook! Heerlijk en bijzonder eten en prettige, goede bediening. Zeker een aanrader!

Encantador restaurante, esta pequeña joya en la calle gay más famosa de Amsterdam. Su nombre podría hacerte suponer que cada plato tendrá sabor a ajo preñado, ¡pero este chef conoce su oficio! A los entrantes encantadores como Gravad Lax o Duet of Duck les siguió un suculento vástago de cordero con un magnífico puré de patatas enmantequillado. Junto con una botella de Sancerre a un precio razonable, no había mucho que desear! Absolutamente vale la pena una visita!

If I could give this place more stars, I would. We walked past this place in the evening, and thought it was an unusual name. Given the area it’s in with all the gay bars around, the name fits perfect in the area. Since we had recently flown in from Los Angeles, my roommate didn’t want to leave the room nearby but wanted to try something local. Since we both love garlic, I figured why not Garlic Queen? We looked at the menu and decided on the Garlic Baker, Garlic Soup, Caesar Salad, Filet Mignon, and Pasta Pizzaiola. When I got there, I asked if they did to-go, which they did. The server mentioned he would not recommend the filet mignon to go, as it would be eaten later in our meal, and maybe not be as good because it would be cold. A patron inside even offered to deliver the filet mignon later to our room since he would be going by that way on his way home, which I thought was very, very nice. I told him thank you so much, but since the hotel was so close, I could just walk back. So he packaged the first three things nicely, and brought them back. The garlic baker, the garlic soup, and the Caesar salad were all superior, and above par. Even the bread rolls it came with tasted freshly baked. After we finished these three things, I returned back to get the steaks and pasta. He got them prepared in a timely matter, and they were superb! Excellent! Now I know why he wanted us to wait to eat them straight out from being cooked! Bottom line is everything was soooooo good, and beyond what I expected. The service and caring involved in my order (and how it was prepared to go) was above and beyond in any service I’ve received anywhere else. They’ve been here for 27 years, and I’ll definitely be back on this trip to dine in, and even try one of their garlic desserts. I hope they’re around for another 27 years for others to enjoy.

Ya que ambos amamos el ajo, pensé ¿por qué no Garlic Queen? Miramos el menú y decidimos por la panadería de ajo, sopa de ajo, ensalada César, filete Mignon y pasta pizzaiola. Cuando llegué allí, les pregunté si lo hacían... ir, lo cual hicieron. El servidor mencionó que no recomendaría el filete mignon para llevar, ya que se comería más tarde en nuestra comida, y tal vez no sea tan bueno porque estaría frío. The tasteful interior with beautiful Royal portraits of the Dutch Queens, a variety of choices from Duck to Dutch pancakes, accompanied by a delicious orange Garlic Queen Liquer, made for a perfect taste of being in Amsterdam. Beware! An older man with white hair tried to steal my locked bike right in front of me. If I hadn’t caught him in the act, he would’ve gotten away with it. When I confronted him, he claimed it wasn’t allowed to park bikes in front of his restaurant. However, there was no sign stating that, and the bike wasn’t even parked in front of his place—it was in front of a coffeeshop nearby. It’s shocking that a restaurant owner or manager would behave like this. Extremely bad experience.

It's a lovely restaurant, well designed and decorated and the food was very nice. That said I feel the guys running it have lost enthusiasm as they seemed a bit disinterested in their customers. It was a quiet night and it was empty - the same on Saturday when we walked by. Find your mojo guys and seem pleased to see your customers!

Love this restaurant and have been here several times. Last about 15 years ago - I have never been disappointed. Garlic baker for starter and Gambas for main course is the perfect meal for a garlic lover. We also got beer with the meal and a drink afterwards.

Garlic Queen had been on the list for a long time, but the touristy location put me off a bit. By chance I ended up at Garlic Queen this evening and had a delicious meal and drink. The interior is basically quite chic, but combined with some kings and a lot of garlic it is especially very cozy. The quality of the food is good, there are a number of “standard” dishes to which a little or a lot of garlic has been added in a playful way, but also some dishes where garlic really plays the leading role. In addition to the food, there are also a number of drinks with garlic and you can even try ice cream with garlic.

I was expecting to really have the garlic in all its splendor, but very disappointed in terms of taste, we waited 1 hour 15 minutes before getting the starter, we stayed a total of 2 hours 30 minutes for a starter and a main course.. The servers are not present and expensive for what they are. Very disappointed

A unique experience. The garlic is not over wellming. The garlic beer was good, dark with a slight hint of garlic. The food was delicious, I had the catch of the day and my wife had spaghetti, which she didn't share, so it must have been delicious.

Staff was nice, the atmosphere was pretty as well. Garlic bread and carpaccio was really tasty. We expected a garlic experience - couldn't even taste the garlic. Their must try beer doesn't even have a hint of garlic, it wasn't even tasty or "must try". The staff was nice and polite as I said, but he wasn't helpful at all, for example - we tried to ask how the burger meat will be cooked and he said - it will be okay (yeah, wasn't okay, it was well overcooked). Nothing about the restaurant was a garlic experience. I had more garlic in a regular restaurant where they actaully mentioned - this sauce will be made with real garlic and it was super tasty. There was only one more table beside us, but we still needed to wait for a long time to order, to receive food and etc. The burger was meh, we tasted better ones in MC Donalds and it was pinch of garlic on top of it (the sauce near the burger, greaaaaat). Ceaser salad didn't even have the taste of garlic. So overall - I learned that we need to research "fancier" restaurants really deep, because if it was something interesting in 90s, appearantnly it's not anymore. We paid a lot for abismal experience, I mean we were really hoping for garlic experience, but it wasn't nothing like it.

Very nice small restaurant, new seats compared to seats shown on photos, much more comfortable! Great to have a restaurant devoted to garlic! Host was entertaining and friendly too. Only slight comment would be more garlic in dishes please, a little too subtle! Particularly enjoyed the garlic baker and lamb shank but the undoubted star of the show was the orange/garlic flavoured ice- cream, would go back just for that alone!

Charming? Yes Atmosphere? Yes Food….? The soup, outstanding. The rest, pretty ok. The garlic kir with ginger? Extremely sweet (!). Carpaccio, decent. The rest of our food? How about waiting for almost ONE hour for it??? This place we’ve gave three shots now. First time we were excited to try all the garlicky food (the place was almost empty but they treated us right) Second time we brought a friend. We were very excited (because who doesn’t love garlic) and in the end we were all pretty underwhelmed. Nothing to talk about much. So, third time, we bring our kids, the last night of one of them in Amsterdam, let’s treat ourselves to some garlic right after Christmas when MOST restaurants are booked up; Garlic Queen is pretty empty (red flag right there?), and then we understood why. A lot of the clientele are regulars, they chat with the server and the chef, etc. But regular clients are treated semi-rudely, not much attention, the guy comes and takes your order but he’s curt and impatient. Drinks are brought almost slammed in the table and with haste. He never asks if we want something, we have to make the effort to learn the menu (he wouldn’t tell us about it), and then, to top it all off, we wait for our food for a really long time. One big plus, the garlic ice cream is fantastic! Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but this place seems not to care much about the people that come to dine here. While we were waiting (a long time) for our food, a couple came and sat. And they sat and sat and after several minutes of no one coming to take their order, they finally just got up and left. When the server came, he joked with the people on the next table about them leaving…. I mean….do you want their business or not? I don’t get it. Bottom line: great chef, terrible management.

After 15 years, I returned to this cozy restaurant and it still has its charm. Food was delicious and despite the name of the restaurant, the garlic was not too overwhelming, exactly the right taste. We had the 4-course menu, which has all the restaurant specials. Furthermore we enjoyed the friendly and personal service of the owner. I would really recommend this restaurant!

Food was delicious and tastes exactly as you'd expect. The garlic baker was heavenly and the prawns were delicious (a healthy portion too). You have to try the garlic beer! The meat in the stew was also delicious and melt away. Couldn't fault it. The staff were lovely and enjoyed a good chat so really felt like home from home cooking. Not much of an atmosphere and maybe one of the quieter restaurants around but not everyone loves Garlic. I'd go back in a heartbeat

Despite the name the menu is varied and the food delicious! The Starter of the Garlic Baker is a must to try. Delicious. Shrimp dish was great and although on the small side the burger was the best I’ve tasted in a long time. Highly recommend.

Eten was opzich goed maar erg standaard en niets bijzonders. Dit restaurant stond al een tijdje op mijn lijstje maar het viel me toch tegen. Had meer culinairiteit verwacht met de knoflook, het waren meer standaard maaltijden met knoflook. Daarnaast vond ik de prijzen ook aan de hoge kant en niet in balans met de kwaliteit/presentatie vh eten. Al met al grappig om keer te eten maar denk dat er voor de eigenaren wel wat werk ad winkel is om het concept te verbeteren.

I tried some garlic ice cream and although you'd think those two things would not go together...it definitely does. My boyfriend had the garlic soup and fell in love. Service was great. Place was great. Everything was 10/10. If and when I visit Amsterdam again I'll definitely be paying a visit to here!

Heerlijk gegeten in een mooie zaak. Heel verrassende gerechten waar in allen de knoflook een belangrijk onderdeel is , maar niet overheerst. Blijkbaar ben ik een lastige drinker , maar na 2 nee’s een verrassende tip en genoten van een heerlijke drank bij het diner. Is het goedkoop? Nee , maar we vonden het iedere euro waard. Kortom een aanrader als je een verrassend diner wilt met mooie gerechten

escolhemos o garlic por sermos amantes de alho, porem para a nossa supresa em nenhuma das nossas escolhas, sentimos o alho de uma forma presente. Pedimos Drink, cerveja, prato principal (pedimos ao garçom de caprichar no alho), sobremesa e em nenhuma dessas escolhas o alho esteve presente. No Geral a comida nao è ruim, porem nao corresponde as expectativas para aqueles que gostam de alho. O local è muito bonito.

Na tien jaar weer eens bij de Garlic Queen geweest, wat een tegenvaller. We zaten op een leeg en ongezellig aangekleed terras. Steerloos en niet uitnodigend. Veel te kleine tafeltjes waar amper twee borden op passen en stoelen waarbij elke vorm van stijl ontbreekt. We hadden gereserveerd dus gingen toch zitten. Het eten smaakte niet verkeerd maar de prijs kwaliteit was ver onder de maat. De porties zijn erg klein en de knoflook was niet sterk aanwezig. Voor deze relatief hoge prijzen verwacht je veel meer. Nadat de bediening vroeg hoe we het vonden en we dit hebben aangegeven, ging hij direct in discussie. In mijn ogen mag dit nooit! Dit was voor ons de laatste keer Garlic Queen!

Garlic Queen doet de naam meer dan eer aan! Koninklijk erg mooi mogen eten! Zeer goede keuken in handen van Geert, deze kok geeft de lekkerste gerechten mooi gebalanceerd als feestje door op tafel, door de gastheer John! en dat is de kers op de Garlic, leuke bediening met glans! Enorm aan te raden!

#LetsGuide Yes yes a restaurant with only garlic !!! So good ! I tried the garlic beer ,wow 😦 The soup with garlic bread. And the atmosphere! French chansons love it. Yes there are Dutch people working 😭but it looks like they wash hands after toilets ( they look Gay, so that's good Gays have more hygienic then straight in the Netherlands.

Het eten was lekker, niet echt knoflookoverheersend maar het was vooral heel weinig… Dit was de stoofschotel van 25 euro.. erg jammer

The best garlic soup I ever had, it was absolutelly delicious. I will return there certainly for the rest positions from the menu.

Knus restaurant met vlotte bediening. De gerechten zijn van goede kwaliteit en heerlijk van smaak, met de zachte smaak van knoflook. Verwacht geen overdreven scherpe knoflooksmaak. De borden lijken wat summier van opmaak, maar voor- hoofd en nagerecht zijn ruim voldoende. Zeker een aanrader!

Ben hier gisteren wezen eten met mijn vrouw was meer dan tien jaar geleden maar heb zo lekker gegeten zal niet weer tien jaar wachten om hier te eten garlic queen tot snel

Better than expected given the location but, as mentioned on other reviews, the garlic theme is not very impressive, just one more ingredient in the main dishes. Friendly staff, I'm guessing the owner himself waits on the tables.
