We had two steak dishes (fillet and kebab), both really great meat, perfectly grilled, and very good fries too!! Nice, cozy place! - Highly recommended!!

We had a nice meal at this small restaurant; we chose the fish stew. It was very tasty, though perhaps a bit small. And the portion of fries (1 cone for 2 people) is also too little for 2 adults. Still, the specially cut potato was very tasty. Next time I will choose a meat dish, if I have saved up enough.

After an afternoon in Middelburg, we were in the mood for something from the grill. We were recommended Gasterij 51. That turned out well. Delicious grilled steak from the 'secret weapon'. Highly recommended.

Had a delicious meal at a restaurant with a long history. Spareribs and satay. Started with onion soup and baguette with spreads. There was a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

We ate very tasty pork belly. The stew is also a real winner. Quite a good selection of jin's. We will come back here on our next visit to Middelburg.

Yesterday, we had a wonderful meal here with a table of 7. The stew was the best stew I have ever tasted in my life, and the steak was tender and delicious with the peppercorn sauce. The 4 children also finished their plates. One of the children had the starter with scampi, and he loved it. The café was fully booked, and there was a wonderful atmosphere, just like you would find at this place 20 years ago. It felt wonderful, like coming home. Highly recommended, especially with children.

Had a delicious meal in a lively setting. Staff friendly and the food was tasty. It can be noisy there, but this was certainly not disturbing. The owner is a cheerful guy.

The food was super tasty and the service was also very good. I don't eat meat myself, so I really enjoyed a fish dish, and they also have a vegetarian option. My husband really enjoyed a nice piece of meat; super tender and juicy is what he said. The people are very nice and the service is really excellent.

We were in Middelburg for a few days and, based on the reviews, chose De Gasterij 51 for dinner. It turned out to be a good choice! We received a friendly welcome and a lovely table, even though we hadn't booked... There were quite a few diners inside! The menu was clear, and it was easy to make a choice. The order came through quickly and correctly, and it was well worth it. Time for a few friendly words at the table. In short, a place to remember.

What a lovely place! The staff are incredibly friendly. They truly know how to be customer-friendly. The food was truly delicious. They were also very sweet, caring, and thoughtful towards our 3-year-old daughter.

Terrible! We received the cards politely to choose to dine for four. Then we didn't even look at them for 45 minutes. The young waitresses were seriously behind the bar with a beer, but didn't even look at the people eating. Never done that before; we got up, left our drinks, and left, only to find a good meal elsewhere, with good service! Never again!

We had a wonderful meal. We had the stew, the kebab, and the brochette, and everything was excellent! The chef even came by beforehand to ask how the meat was cooked. The service was friendly and efficient. There was a slight communication issue with the order, but this was immediately resolved. There's a pleasant buzz. A great atmosphere for dining with friends. Fine for a quick bite to eat, but it's a noisy pub instead of a restaurant. The owner plays the music so loudly later in the evening that it hurts your ears. We actually fled outside. No tip, of course.

Great little bar tucked slightly away from the tourist traps that litter the town squares of Middleburg. The menu is tight, presumably with an emphasis on quality, and the steak and fries I was served were ace. Literally some of the greatest chips I've ever tasted, I had to reign myself in from ordering a second portion. My wife, as a lifelong resident of Texas, considers herself somewhat of an expert when it comes to ribs, and she declared hers to be out of this world; a great blend of dry and wet rubs with the ribs themselves cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Desserts too were outstanding and the meal for two (including cocktails) came in at under 100 Euros, so brilliant value for a great meal.

Best spareribs in Walcheren. Beautiful St. Louis ribs with a good marinade. The stew is also good, but the baby potatoes are so-so, but not bad.

Had a lovely meal yesterday, what a relaxed atmosphere. A bit too noisy... started with a birthday regular but that can't detract from the quality of the food, the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly service. It was right that it was a bit busy on this Monday evening. Really recommended if you like a quality eatery.

Super cozy. Nice and busy. Efficient service and a somewhat limited menu. Chose schnitzel and enjoy a nice beer. Also back on the table quickly. Delicious with fried mushrooms. Better than those sauces. All in all, pleasantly busy, good food and affordable. There is no reason to go here for good food and drinks. In any case, I will come back (again).

We ate here for the first time today. We opted for Shared dinner for 2. That was so delicious. 3 different dishes were offered per course. Starter, main course and dessert. Our compliments for the chef and the service of the waiters. We will come back when we are in Middelburg again. .

We were there for dinner. Dark pub atmosphere with a large bar. It was quiet when we visited. The food was average to good. Friendly service and a large selection of drinks.

Had dinner here on Monday evening with the two of us. Cozy cafe, spare ribs are sublime. Pork tenderloin with brie and pepper sauce also highly recommended. For those who love desserts and especially the waffle, this is really the tastiest! We will definitely come back here again.

Never make a reservation here for Monday. Is open on the website, we reserved. Four emails, oh how nice that you are coming. Even on Sunday evenings at 6:10 PM, 9:15 PM they call, it's wrong on the site. Be honest and say that you are waiting for the reservations. Once you are seated, you can arrange something else. Worthless, that's not how you treat your guests. Would be ashamed to death.😡😡 learn for next time, NEVER here again

Location a bit noisy, advice to do something about the acoustics. More than enough food, very large portions. The oven malfunction that caused the waiting time to increase was resolved properly. We had a beautiful evening. Thank you.

Cosy, warm decor (brown café-like with nice beer signs and old drinks bottles as candle holders), hospitable service and good food. I loved the pumpkin risotto! Upon departure we greeted someone from behind the bar - very nice!

I have never been inside, so how does this question arise?

There were several groups. So group 1 starter, then group 2 starter etc Then group 1 meat dish, group 2 meat dish Then group 1 fries and then group 2 who had long finished the meat dish and received fries...humorous comments. We had also indicated in advance that we wanted the meat medium. This had to be returned because it was weird. We got the meat back after the fries...see above.. Due to the large number of visitors, drinks questions were not answered at the table and no empty or dirty items were collected. Didn't ask if everything was okay. I think it is a very nice environment to eat and drink if there are not too many visitors present at the same time... managing the number of guests is recommended!

Had dinner earlier on a Sunday, it was fine. Now this time, not recommended. Onion soup didn't look like anything. Food came in stages. 4 out of 5 people got a main course, later number 5 did too and later the fries arrived. It was a busy evening with many young people singing and loud music.

The food was good. Not great, but tasty. My main point is that the flesh of the sword is not the same. The tip was well done and it became more 'weird' as you ate towards the handle. Service is good, but there is no real communication between each other, which meant that employees often asked double questions (whether we would like something to drink even though we have just ordered). Atmosphere was okay. Very loud inside, but a good attempt was made to make it attractive with nice lamps and wall decoration.

The food was fine. For me the music was a bit loud, but it is a cafe. Hypersensitivity to sound? Then don't come here. The staff was very friendly and regularly asked if everything was okay. We used the surprise plate. Very tender chicken and carpaccio with the starter. Spare ribs came melting off the bone. Delicious. Scampis, fish fillet, fine. The steak was a bit drier although cooked rare. Dessert board with mini brownies, cheesecake, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate and a chatterbox. All tasty. Toilets are ok clean, it is a cafe so it is slightly different from a fancy restaurant. But fine. The child at the neighbors table was treated lovingly. So that also seems to be fine. High chair also available. All in all, the food was excellent, the treatment was excellent

I really like this place, nice service and good beers. But i noticed that quality of food is unequal. Some are amazing, other average. I was there a couple of times, and my opinion is, that meat thete is much better than fish. I love the steak and pepper sauce! Unfortunately sometimes we needed to wait too long for our food, even if the restaurant was totally empty.

One of the few places I've found in NL that serves Bruges Zot on tap. Always friendly service, and their portions are very un-European. Which means they're great. They were even kind enough to keep their kitchen open when I showed up slightly late from the office.

De Gasterij is more than worth its name! This Monday evening, the operator and entrepreneur opened his business in a very hospitable manner for a successful meeting of the Forum for Democracy in Middelburg. Pepijn van Houwelingen and Tjerry Boudet were present and accepted the hospitality with both hands. With respect, a top tent!

A real brown pub. Today was full of the brown shirts of the FvD. So we looked for another location to eat.

Had a shared dinner and it was really tasty. Despite the crowds, we still got a spot at the bar and the service was great.

What a nice place to have a good meal! Delicious, the steak on a cast iron plate. Let that continue for a while. You can then decide for yourself whether you want something well done. Perfect! Nice service. The gentlemen really made an effort to make it a fun experience. A nice bottle of wine and a glass of water without charging anything. Great experience! And the Chef Dessert himself brought the dish. A young boy who has tried very hard. Enjoy.

A charming and excellent restaurant. This is a perfect place near the sailing lake sites, where we drop by for dinner. We were so happy with many options, including vegan and vegetarian. The waiter and waitress are amiable and provide good service. The fish we order is also delicious.
