Finally, a place that still gets it. The terrace's ambiance is already distinctive. This carries through to the menu, where vegetarians are taken seriously and prices are reasonable. The food is fresh and homemade—no pre-made food or pre-cut products. You can taste the love and attention. Service that is friendly and welcoming. The music is just right, present in the background but at exactly the right volume. It is wonderful that places like this still exist.

Very distinctive and original cuisine! The dishes were impeccably prepared and beautifully presented. I highly recommend the "pittige Mackerel" from the dinner menu.

We had a person in our group with a nut allergy and the lady who took our order made sure to double check that they were safe at all times, including checking the dessert and substituting it even though it was our mistake.

Lovely central square location Excellent service from waiters and found room without a reservation. The drinks selection with high quality Belgian beers and a reasonable selection of wines was great value. My fish dish was delicious and unusual but the flavours worked very well, made with flare and care by the chef. A substantial portion and excellent value. My partner had the vegan option which was good but could be improved with more sauces as advertised on the menu and garnish, still excellent value.

We had two banh mi (pork and fish) and both were delicious, as good or even better than some we tried in Vietnam. Super nice. Staff was friendly too

What a delightful experience at this place on the Pottenmarkt. Every single dish looked fantastic and tasted at least as good as it looked. The combination of flavors in the small bowls was surprising and refined. I particularly enjoyed the meticulous presentation, such as the freshly baked bread in the golden basket. Everything was perfect down to the last detail. We will definitely be back here again.

Had a great meal after a busy day at Middelburg Volkoren. I just have a bit of trouble with the concept of working in shirts... we were in the first class and so you get kicked out at the end. For me, a rare time eating out, which I don't do often, is a bit less successful. I like to be able to sit at ease and savor the day. And eat completely at my leisure.

When visiting Middelburg you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants. This place has endured in it's 18 or 19th century building pretty much unchanged over the years because no changes are needed. The restaurant is younger but remains simple, unpretentious and authentic but still has flair. The food is comparatively cheap and always good and well thought out whatever you choose and their beef rendang is stunning. Staff always efficient and friendly and definitely worth the visit.

Had a very good evening meal here. I had emailed in advance to let them know I was coeliac. They were straightforward and said they couldn't guarantee cross contamination but I chose a gluten free dish (the chicken korma) and all was well. Our food was delicious, the staff were friendly.

My favorite go-to when I'm in Middelburg. I haven't really been to Middelburg if I haven't had a drink or a bite to eat here. The staff is simply always friendly and helpful, the food is delicious (with fast service), and the atmosphere is good. De Herberg has a particularly lovely ambiance both inside and out. 10/10 (or 5/5 stars, haha).

The quality of the food is outstanding (unfortunately, an increasing rarity in Middelburg and the surrounding area). As a group of four vegetarians, we ordered four different dishes, all of which were absolutely delicious! Considering the quality, the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely visit this restaurant again on our next trip to Middelburg. P.S.: The staff is also exceptionally friendly and attentive!

I stayed here during my vacation and the food was really great. There's a large terrace outside overlooking the market. But it's also really nice to sit inside. The decor in the historic building is authentic, modern, and colorful. There's a large dining area on the first floor. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. I would definitely come back. But it's best to make a reservation beforehand.

Went in, sat down and was totally ignored while the waitress had obviously seen me and my family. The other waitress was eating her meal and both were looking at us and ignoring us... After a while she came over to say the kitchen was opening in 30 minutes... It was late afternoon... She told us we can order snacks which we did. The snack came over without napkins and once I asked for one was ignored again... Thank god we had wet wipes... 😂 We paid and left highly disappointed..

Where do you still find one, a traditional brown pub? Cozy, friendly, and delicious food. More than worth a visit.

Everything is perfect here: the food, the atmosphere, the service. We had a vegan coconut-lime curry and a fish curry. You had to order naan bread and fries separately. The curries were delicious. Everything was good value for money. One small note: if you're on the first floor, you have to climb a flight of stairs to reach the restrooms. You need to be able-bodied to climb those stairs. People on the first floor often stumbled when entering. The thresholds are difficult to see because of the fluorescent light on the steps.

Had a cup of coffee in a nice spot. It tasted great. The greenhouse is cozy and well-appointed. Very reasonable price. You don't see that everywhere anymore.

While passing through Middelburg, we had dinner at this restaurant on Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly and attentive; our waiter took the time to explain the menu (which wasn't translated into English). The fish curry was delicious, as were the desserts! The setting is charming, with the small greenhouse at the entrance. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

A charming restaurant where we had a delicious meal. As a starter, we had delicious hummus with bread, although the bread was a bit dry. The main course, Indian beef curry with extra naan bread, was excellent! The naan bread was a bit too crunchy and greasy. For dessert, we had Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough.

Had a delicious meal for a reasonable price in a cozy restaurant. The service could be better, for example, asking if you wanted anything afterward. They did clear their plates, but I didn't ask, and waving and beckoning the staff to no avail.

Everything was fine until the main course was finished. After that, no more service. I had to get up myself after over 15 minutes to get the dessert menu. Then another 15 minutes of waiting, about to pay without dessert. Then I was finally able to place my order. Blondie, a brownie with white chocolate. I didn't see or taste any chocolate; it was a dry nut cake, not even worthy of the word blondie. The main course was okay: Asian chicken, chicken with yogurt sauce—not bad, but not Asian.

We just stopped there because they'd installed a conservatory on the terrace for the winter. It looked so inviting that we felt like having a coffee. And because we liked it so much, we went back for lunch after our city walk. The food was simply delicious in a very pleasant setting. This time we sat inside, and the decor is simply superb. Highly recommended.

After about 15 minutes of waiting, we were allowed to order our drinks. After another 30 minutes, we left because we received no service and weren't even informed of anything. If you can offer drinks, you can probably expect to be able to order food. The staff kept staring at us, and yet there was no way to order.

We had lunch on the terrace. The menu, which wasn't as standard as we're used to, made us choose to eat here. The service was friendly and fast. It seemed to us that they didn't all have the same amount of experience in the restaurant industry, but that wasn't a problem. The food tasted great, though.

The food arrived far too quickly to have been freshly prepared. My table companion had spicy chicken, which was okay, but a serving spoon for the rice was missing. My spicy mackerel was very mediocre, a muddy mess (also very dark inside), and the naan was stale, tough, and partially burnt. The fly was awful (unsanitary), and the mess was everywhere.
