Gastrobar Onder de Pannen in Wijk 01 Midsland

Booked based on the good reviews, but after just 1.5 hours and over 120 euros poorer as a group of three, we left sooner than planned. The service was inattentive and far too slow (or there were too many tables). We were not served without having to ask for attention. The wine arrived too late for the course. When we mentioned it when settling the bill, the reason given was that someone had been hit by a car that afternoon, but still no apology or sorry. Not customer-oriented, in other words. The food was okay, but pricey. Unfortunately, our evening was a complete washout.

We ate at Onder de Pannen three times during our stay on Terschelling – that pretty much says it all. The food was delicious every time, and the service was always friendly and attentive. We also really liked the atmosphere. It can get a bit noisy when it's busy, but that didn't detract from the lovely ambiance or our enjoyment of the evenings. We felt comfortable every time and will definitely be back!

Very good restaurant with attentive service. They try to give every dish something special. The mussels are rich in flavor thanks to good herbs and vegetables. But then that dessert. My goodness. I have to come back for that. Meringue perfectly tousled, cranberry mousse, etc., etc. It is so delicious. The service was also very attentive. Father behind the bar and son works wonders in the kitchen. Simply top-notch.

The food is delicious. The only downside is that the sound carries very strongly through the room. If there is a large group nearby, it is difficult to hold a conversation. Thick (velvet) curtains could be a solution.

Maybe we're from another planet, but we didn't think the food was really great. Quite on the pricey side, and all side dishes had to be ordered separately. We found the fries tasted quite greasy and the salad tasteless. So we didn't even bother asking for the dessert menu.

We had a delicious meal. We enjoyed the entrecote and steak. We ordered extra fries and a fresh salad. It's a shame that this is necessary for a more complete meal. The salad was perhaps not necessary. Both were tasty as well. The dessert, Ode to the cranberries, was also delicious. We also enjoyed the coffee with local whiskey. Good service. In short, highly recommended.

My rate: 2.5/5. We came with a high expectation but left with a big disappointment. We order seafood platter for two, it looked great on the menu. However, the risotto was too raw like sands, even we requested the kitchen to recook it but it's still raw. Salmon was overcooked and dry. Other fishes were bland not fresh. In my opinion, food quality couldn't match the price and the good reviews.

Onder de Pannen; an atmospheric location with fantastic food and a kitchen team that is rightly proud of what they serve their guests! Tonight we had the delicious rich mustard soup, the fresh oysters with the local cranberry vinaigrette, and the Wadden Plateau. A beautiful combination of various types of fish and shellfish; sea wolf on risotto with a saffron béarnaise, sea bass, turbot, razor clams, and cockles. Keep up the good work, we will definitely be back!

We had a delicious meal. We had reserved a few days in advance and therefore got a nice spot at a round table (5 people). Our son was given an activity book as a card, which was very nice.

It was so delicious! This is the best restaurant I've had on the island so far. The fish was so fresh and tender, the lamb melted in my mouth, and every dish received unanimous praise. Every bite was a delightful surprise.

HIGH TEA IN THE HEART OF SUMMER. This is our 20th consecutive summer visit to Terschelling and we'd never been to Onder de Pannen. So, let's try something a bit different and book a high tea there, on a sunny and warm day at 3:00 PM. This high tea exceeded all expectations. It was delicious and quite surprising. We started with a welcome reception with (non-alcoholic) bubbles. Then came a "sweet" platter with delicacies incorporating local flavors. The next "savory" platter was so surprising: a South American chef had prepared local products in a very unique way! We finished with a platter that included chocolates and a macro lens. A matching local tea was served with each platter. The staff was extremely friendly and took the time to explain everything and answer questions. Their passion for the craft and their inspiring stories contributed significantly to this culinary highlight. High tea at Gastrobar Onde De Pannen? Definitely do it!!!

A wonderful restaurant that works with local regional products as much as possible. For people with a gluten allergy or gluten intolerance: a top-notch experience! There was a starter on the menu that I really wanted to try, but it contained gluten. The staff immediately came to my aid and adapted the dish to be completely gluten-free. Extremely helpful. The food is delicious and reservations are a must; due to the good menu, local food, and good service, it fills up quickly. Highly recommended for everyone, and a good place for people with gluten allergies.

Once again, had a fantastic meal at Onder de Pannen in Midsland! Friendly staff, good and fast service. The products are fresh, of good quality, and the dishes are always delicious. A must-visit whenever I am on the island. Big shout out to Sanne, Pieter, Sjoerd, and the rest of the team for the great care every single time!

We ate at ‘Onder de Pannen’ twice because we were very charmed by the menu, the quality of the food, and the very friendly service. We ordered ceviche, scallops, and tataki—all wonderfully delicious. For the main course, leg of lamb and mussels, followed by the cranberry dessert. We sat wonderfully in the conservatory, where our dog also found a nice spot. Nothing but praise. We will definitely return on our next visit to Terschelling!

Delicious lunch at Onder de Pannen!

If you are on Terschelling, you definitely must visit Onder de Pannen! It is really clear that the people in the kitchen here are passionate; the food is delicious and there is an eye for detail! We had to wait a little longer for the starter, but it was MORE than worth the wait! Friendly service staff.

Had a wonderful meal, hard workers/super nice staff! Cozy atmosphere and this time we sat at the ‘regulars’ table’ (as I’ll call it) where you can look into the kitchen, which is so nice (and it looked so fresh and clean too). The prawns were exquisite! The mussels with blue cheese sauce were truly delicious, the entrecote was buttery soft, the scallops so tasty and the steak tartare fantastic! Planning to eat here regularly!

We ordered (among other things) 2 steaks and were asked how we wanted them. 1 medium and 1 medium rare. The steak arrived and we were asked who it was for, so I asked: is it the medium or the medium rare? Answer: the kitchen made them the same. So I said: we ordered 1 medium and 1 medium rare. Answer: well... the kitchen made them the same and the plates were thrown on the table... then don't work in the hospitality industry! They didn't even ask if we wanted to make a different one (then I would have said no because of the communal dining and I wouldn't have written this review like this) but if I am treated this rudely... to the owner: thank the man with the "de mosselman shirt". So we just skipped dessert. Then I won't begrudge you that revenue anymore.

The staff completed the atmosphere with their humor and enthusiasm. In short: delicious food, lovely people, and a cozy ambiance. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and are coming back for dinner again tonight 🧑‍🍳. Absolutely recommended!

One of the most authentic restaurants on Terschelling. Had a delicious fish of the day (turbot). The accompanying vegetables were perfect and varied. Good wine suggestion off the menu. Highly recommended!

We were there during Oerol while the Dutch national team was playing (they won 5-1 against Sweden). It was therefore incredibly busy. All the ingredients for a company to collapse, but nothing could be further from the truth. The food was truly top-notch; very tasty and well-presented. The service was cheerful, fast, and attentive, and the atmosphere (despite the noise) was good! It is not cheap, but definitely worth the money! Big compliments to the people at this establishment!

Onder de Pannen reminded me of the lovely spots you sometimes stumble upon in the middle of nowhere. Honest, welcoming, relaxed, and above all, delicious food without any fuss. No complicated haute cuisine or exaggerated pretensions, but dishes made with care that simply taste very good. Exactly the kind of place you love to pull up a chair at after a day outdoors on Terschelling. For me, there was one absolute star of the evening: the dessert *Ode to the Cranberry*. I would come back just for that. Incredibly delicious! Sometimes things don't have to be complicated to impress, and as far as I'm concerned, this dessert proved that perfectly. A wonderful place where you immediately feel at ease. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Visited our island again with my wife, the best wife ever. After what felt like 20 years, we revisited this restaurant (though I can't remember if it was under the same management back then). The ambiance was lovely and very typical of the island – really nice. The service was almost perfect, friendly and competent, and they even explained the daily specials in German (though that wasn't really necessary). The white wine (DOC Lugana) at €39.00 was fairly priced and went well with the food. However, it didn't make me want a second bottle. The dishes were nicely presented. Unfortunately, both the beef carpaccio and the Butter de Paris served with the steak lacked depth of flavor. You could even call them bland. The steak, on the other hand, was excellent. Cooked to perfection and of very good quality. I'd really like to know what the chef was thinking with the Ajam Smoor. And why does everyone nowadays think that meat absolutely has to be pulled? A well-marinated corn-fed chicken breast fillet is definitely better than this shredded chicken. ... The gastrobar offers nice seating and great service, but we won't be going there for dinner again. However, they do have a snack menu.

What a terrible organization!!!!! You reserve a table for 2 people well in advance, and nothing is available. Only at the bar. So, a real struggle. No apology, no offer to make a change. Very inhospitable. Response to the comment: It is a shame that the blame is placed on the guests. For dinner, we do not sit at a high bar table, two of which are also placed right against the bar. We were shown a low table, but after a few minutes we had to leave: reserved for other guests who had specifically requested it. After that, we were also allowed to sit on a sofa and dine at a coffee table. Call that hospitable!!?? Finally, we didn't storm out but left quietly, though very disappointed.

We had a truly delicious meal. The food is of superb quality! With many products and vegetables from the island! Definitely recommended! The only thing is that the wine list could be better, with good wines to pair with meat and fish dishes.

Good restaurant but excessively expensive, very pleasant service. Recommended: steak tartare, island lamb, ribeye steak, and desserts. The menu remains the same from year to year, so after two visits, we'd seen it all.

We sat waiting a good two hours for the food; the fries were undercooked and there was a nasty yellow layer over the mayonnaise, as if it had been sitting there for a long time. There were also other people who arrived later than us and they got their food earlier. This was the last time we are coming here.

On May 14th, we had a delicious meal here and were warmly welcomed by the host (Sjoerd). Even though the restaurant was busy, we didn't have to wait endlessly for drinks and the food. The staff was attentive, and everything was perfect. Applause for the chefs; the food was delicious! We will definitely be back again!

We found the atmosphere very cozy, but the food was mediocre. The steak was small but flavorful with a delicious gravy. The sea bass seemed thawed and watery. The side dishes were small. The price-quality ratio left much to be desired.

On April 4th, we had a delicious meal at Gastrobar Onder de Pannen on Terschelling. As far as we are concerned, this was the tastiest dinner we had during our stay on the island. We started with the pan-fried scallops with linguine al nero and a sauce made from Terschelling porcini mushrooms. A beautiful dish, well-balanced and beautifully presented. After that, we had, among other things, the grilled entrecôte with truffle jus and the sea bass fillet with fresh risotto, beurre blanc, and chive oil. That sea bass, in particular, was truly fantastic: beautifully cooked, creamy, fresh, and full of flavor. The dessert, the “Ode to the Cranberry,” was also a delicious conclusion and suited Terschelling perfectly. You can tell that the cooking here is done with care: beautiful ingredients, good sauces, flavorful combinations, and plates that look very well-presented as well. The atmosphere is cozy and informal, exactly what you hope to find on a night out like this. For us, it is highly recommended and a place we would love to return to. Gastrobar Onder de Pannen lives up to its name: here, they really know what to do with pans.

We had a delicious meal yesterday at Gastrobar Onder de Pannen. The appetizer tasting platter was highly recommended: flavorful and beautifully presented. For the main course, we chose the Wadden Plateau for two, featuring a whole turbot and mussels, razor clams, and cockles, among other things – a beautiful and rich platter. The only downside was the cockles; unfortunately, they contained some sand, which meant you were left with a gritty feeling every now and then. A shame, because otherwise everything was perfectly taken care of.

Wonderfully spoiled during the High Wine! Super flavorful and really more than enough :) first a delicious soup, then a round fish, followed by a round meat, and as the fourth course a delightful mixed dessert with an island touch. Thank you for a wonderful High Wine!

High tea was great! Good value for money and tasty culinary treats! The atmosphere was fine too, mind you, but we were the only ones in the restaurant on this Sunday afternoon.

Enjoyed an "early dinner" making reservations online ahead of time. Cozy atmosphere and warm welcome upon entry. Service was exceptional and friendly throughout. Food good enough but did not hit on all cylinders. Some arrived lukewarm for dishes that mattered most, while others lacked cohesion. Will be back to give it another try, perhaps caught the kitchen on an off day.

We dined in a cozy atmosphere at one of our favorite restaurants on Terschelling. For starters, sea bass sashimi and steak tartare. Then, for the main course, we enjoyed the sirloin and the sea bass fillet. We finished the dinner with a delicious cup of coffee ☕️

The cheese fondue is truly delicious. Beautifully presented, the cheese stays wonderfully warm. The warm vegetables—fennel, beetroot, and chicory—come with it really complete it. Enjoyed it.

What delicious food we had in a packed, cozy, and atmospheric restaurant. “Why then not 5 stars?” We were a party of 16 and were given two tables next to each other, meaning we were sitting back-to-back. The menu was brought to one table, and we had to transfer the cards ourselves and explain to each other what, for example, the “catch of the day” was. We sat down at 7:00 PM, the starters didn't arrive until an hour and a half later (and weren't served at the same time either), and the main course didn't arrive until 9:30 PM, and again, they weren't served at the same time. We pointed out multiple times that we were one group, but that didn't improve things. Once again, nice atmosphere and very good food, but being treated as two tables as a large group was really a shame.
